"We just came from there," Jake pointed out, for once not feeling threatened by the man. Anything he could say might be a lie in any case. And plus, Kazi wouldn't interupt Bontecou again, not once they just left. "That all sounds quite violent, huh?" he added, running his tongue over the surface of his teeth, just for something to do more than anything.

"What cheek?" Jake was puzzled this time. Had he given any cheek? Did he EVER give CHEEK?!

... don't answer that.

"Just stuff, sir," he insisted, quickening his pace, all the better to flee from the crazy old man.

Kazimeriz stood stock still, considering. He didn't like the boy's attitude. "Your attitude leaves much to be desired. You seem to forget that you are addressing a master of this school, and deputy headmaster." Undoubtedly this was all Lawson's work. "Come. You will report to the Headmaster and we will straighten this matter out." He turned around, walking back toward Bontecou's office.

"Whatsat mean, sir?" Jake asked, turning his head slightly in Kazi's direction. "'Much to be desired'? I was just... say- wait, what?!" he exclaimed suddenly, keeping his feet rooted to the ground. "No, sir... there's nothing to straighten out! I don't wanna go back up there."

As a rule, Bontecou, the man with more power, scared Jake more than Kazi ever had. Fact of life.

"Then you should have responded to my inquiry." Kazimeriz said simply. "I give you one more chance to act as a gentleman: you will tell me the details of your lessons with Lawson now. Your private lessons. Or we shall see what the headmaster says about it." Kazimeriz eyed the boy coldly, contemplating the merits of the imperius curse.

Darn... Kazi took away Jake's loophole oppurtunity by specifying the lessons he was talking about. THE MAN WAS A MONSTER! "I... I can't do it," he shook his head, folding his arms across his chest. "I don't care what you'll do to me, sir. I'm not scared."

Of youuuuu.

"I can't remember," Jake added, just in case it helped him at all.

And how exactly was that acting like a gentleman.

"Not scared? You should be, Upstead. At best, you will be in detention until you graduate, and you are a breath away from expulsion, and you dare to defy me?" He glowered at the boy, feeling his rage rise. He rose his wand up to the boy, the expression on his face deadly. "To the headmaster. Now." he said, motioning for the boy to march.

I mean, fo' realz. Detention until he graduates? Say whaaaaaaat? What FOR exactly? For forgetting some stuff. Nice school this turned out to be. Jake was all set toturn and step away, until the dreaded mention of expulsion (how would he play quidditch?) and WHAT THE CHEESE, WHIZ?! The guy was pointing his darn WAND... straight at Jakers.

MEAN.

"I like your compliment." she winked back at her sister. She smiled when Willow hip bumped her. Good thing they were the same size otherwise that could have sent Paris sprawling. "Yeah lets go raid the Great Hall and then go for a picnic." she agreed. It was just like old times before everyone separated to go to school. The family used to spend their days in the backyard next to the pool with their picnics. "We should get mom to pack us up some picnics when we go home for the holidays next week." she said thinking out loud. The whole family was so laid back, it was great being at home.

“Well she doesn't like muggles does she?” Willow replied. “And you can't get much more muggle without actually being one than our dad. Mum must've really loved him to go against Grandma's wishes.” She shuddered. “Grandma is pretty intimidating.” Their mum had some guts running off from Ghana to come to Britain... and then marrying a pasty Brit with no money and a love of muggles was like the most severe way you could rebel against Afia. She giggled though Paris seemed annoyed by the subject. “Perhaps if he didn't try so hard she would like him better.” .. or not.

Her eyes widened. “You think so? You don't think the merperson will be upset with me, do you?” Not good to unintentionally tick off a merperson – they could be really scary.

“I need to stop by the common room to drop off Bob and pick up Edwin.” She told her sister as she linked arms with her and they wandered towards the stairs. “Yeah, we should go to Cornwall for a few days. You think mum and dad would let us go camping?” Willow loved camping, but they had only ever been allowed to pitch in the garden ...unless their mum or dad was with them.

"He'll do whatever Haylan says, so I've got this plan," Cope turned to walk ahead of her, backwards. It was easier to talk to her when he could see her and use his hands to talk. "I'll tell her, get her excited about what the professors are setting up, and then she will help me tell my father. He's... toast."

Cope gave her the hairy eyeball, followed by a startled half-laugh. "Cel? Are you... serious? Hypothesis?"

"That is soooooo Slytherin." Celandine grinned, "I like Haylan. I like your father too. He's nice." She watched him walking to the point where neither of them were really looking at where they were going anymore. She'd not notice if he were about to collide with anything.

"What?" She was a little miffed at his response and she lifted her chin challengingly, "You said its a science, so why not be scientific? With a hypothesis and different subjects and a control... then you can correlate the data on all the pretty girls that you are observing and draw a proper conclusion. Otherwise what's the point?"

"I don't think so. I think it's a good thing. You won't ever forget or stop loving your mother. Who says there's a rule about how many people you are allowed to care about anyway? And Haylan obviously cares about you too." Cela answered.

She took a few more steps before stopping too, just in front of Cope, following him over to the wall a little uncertainly and still more than just a little miffed. "Oh?"

What did that expression on her face mean? She looked displeased, and his stomach felt like it would turn inside out. Why was she making that face? She probably didn't approve of his experiment, but he'd been speaking metaphorically. Teasing Cela almost never worked, because she was so oddly literal.

Cela's expression changed. "You meant me? It's me you want to find out about?" She really meant 'and not other girls?' But really, she had no right to even think that let alone say it, right?

It hurt him that she still didn't understand how he felt. To Cope, he felt as if he'd declared his feelings and intentions over and over again. But here she was... acting all surprised that he was interested in her.

"Celandine. I want... can't you see..." He sighed and slid down the wall to a seated position. "I'm trying to figure you out."

Cela looked down at his fingers and turned her hand over so that their palms just touched and the little smile on her face threatened to get bigger. "So you don't want to know what my favourite colour is? What kind of food I like best? What my favourite book is? Where my favourite place to be alone is? Straight to the big questions and skip the little ones?"

She took a breath and answered in a quiet voice, "I don't know, you, and time is infinite but I don't know if that's long enough."

He smiled crookedly, his eyes on her hand. "But... I know those already. It isn't like we're starting from scratch, Cel. I've known you for almost a year and a half now." Was that all? It felt like longer.

He twined his fingers with hers. "But not just me, right? I can tell it isn't just me. I guess that's okay. You probably want to... live a little after being in a relationship for so long."
