Laura grinned back at Satine.
"It's quiet strange actually, don't you think? I mean, it was my dad who's the magical one in our family, and my sister Emma-Louise, and I knew that I was a witch. But I'd be out with my friends and something really wierd would happen, and I knew what was going on, but couldn't tell them!"
Lauras smile faded.
"They didn't want to be friends with me after a while... said I was strange....and not normal...."
Laura shrugged her shoulders and her usual grin returned, but a shadow of loss was still in her eyes.
"But now," she continued, "I'm in a place where I'm like everyone else, and I've made some great friends already!"

Linda had finally got out out of the hospital wing.She hurried to the ravenclaw house table.She sat down and said 'Hi'

Jule was a bit hungry now. But she knew that if she ate when she wasn't hungry, she'll feel sick. She hated having this sickness. Or at least she thought she had it. She grabbed some potatoes and water and just ate that for the day.

Jule then saw a girl said hello. "hey. I'm Jule."

Jenn's eyes widdened as Laura told her story, and she felt very bad. "Oh Laura! That's horrible!"she said, hugging the girl tightly. "I had a friend, he's in Gryffindor, and he is a muggle born. You see, when we first met, me and him were only four. We were so close to each other, some people thought we where brother and sister. One day though, I acidently turned a rock into a rat, and he noticed. For awhile, he wouldn't talk to me, but then he realized he couldn't be without me, for he didn't really have any friends. Mine's not that sad, but...."she trailed off. Why was she telling them this?

Satine was getting bored so she started nibbling on some of the fruit pizza in front of her....she wasn't really hungry, just really bored and ready for announcements so they could go see the common room and the dorms...

As she talked, she snuck a piece of fruit pizza to her chinchilla, Gemma, in her bag. "I understand, when I was little my hair and eyes would change with my emotions, so I had to wear a wig until I got it under control a little bit better. All of the muggle kids were afraid of me, but luckily my mom's best friend from Hogwarts lived a few blocks away, so I knew one wizard kid...her name was Libby but she was a lot older than me...." she laughed as Gemma crawled out of her bag and into her lap..."but mom tried to take me to work alot so I could be around more magical people....but it was a pain being in the muggle world..."

"A pretty calm summer for you then?" Smiling,Sarah started rocking in her seat.Her bum was going to sleep already and it didn't look like they were getting out of there any time soon.
"Yes and we can't let that happen again!" Sarah said sternly to her friend. "Have to make time for each other outside lessons..maybe by the lake or something."
"Haha," she snorted at Jenn's excitement. "Well I didn't do incredibly well,but sure I'd love to play with you at some point.Not sure we're allowed in school though....We'll have to meet up this coming summer!"

Turning back to Mariel,Sarah noticed her friend appeared to be nearly falling asleep.She didn't blame her either.Most of the students seemed to be getting restless,herself included.What could be keeping the Headmaster? She knew he liked to make a dramatic entrance,the flips of last year told her that,but this was a bit much.All the yawning made her do the same. "Oooooh dear," she said stiffling it as much as she could,"yeah I'm pretty tired too.Wonder what's going on?" She stood up and glanced up to the Dais and saw most of the teachers already there,chatting away,a little figure sat in front of them.
Wait...is that...Jake Upstead,the little Huffie? Wonder what he's doing there.

Her ears pricked up when she heard Mariel talking about her to Jenn.Laughing she sat back down and joined in with them.
"Yeah I think Mariel will not be happy if I don't at least try!" she gave her friend a nudge back. "She was such a good teacher,though.I just hope I can remember everything she and Lasca taught me!"
"Oh yeah the more the merrier!" Sarah beamed at Jenn's suggestion of cheering her on. "I'll need the support,and you really should try too,shame we can't all do it together." That was one thing she didn't like about being in another house....She couldn't always do the same as them,or do something at the same time.
"Let's make a pact," she began,sticking her hand out in front of her,palm down. "We'll all try out and be supportive of each other...whether we fail to make it or get through.How does that sound?" She beamed at each of her friends,giving Lasca a nudge in the back to get her opinion.

"I know!" Laura grinned as she spoke to Satine. "It's just daft. And then you come here and people expect you to know magic because at lest one person in your family's a wizard, and you don't...." she trailed off.

Laura hugged Jenn back. It was weird to have this sympathy. She smiled as she listened to Jenns story. She was so lucky to have had a friend when she was that young, even if he was partially scared of her. Hearing her heasitantly trail off, she spoke.
"What's the best thing about Hogwarts?" she said.
Laura turned to see another girl sitting beside her. She looked quite young, and a bit lost, so Laura figured she must be a first year, too.
"Hi," she replied with her broad grin. "I'm Laura."

'Hey..nice to meet you ..I think I've seen you somewhere before...well..I'm Linda..Linda Granger..' Linda said..holding her hand out to shake hands with Laura..

Jenn shrugged. "All depends on if you call dodging your sister's because you and your brother's put die in their shampoo a calm summer, then sure!"she chuckled out.

"The lake could be good. I love that place. It's calm...peaceful...and somtimes quiet. For sure though we have to spend time with each other. No more not seeing each other." She nodded. "Sure! I have a huge back yard, we could play it back there. I have plenty of brooms also, cause my brother's play it a lot. At their school they play on a team. Maybe they'll play with us! I know Devon would and Hilion."
Jenn looked up at the staff table also, and saw Jake. "Do you know what he's doing?"she whispered to Sarah, knowing she must know him since they where in the same house. He looked so tiny next to the professors.

She laughed. "I won't be happy either if you don't. I'm sure your good, especially if Mariel and Lasca taught you. Their both good."she beamed at them.
"I agree. It's a shame different houses can't be on the same team. But, that would be a bit wierd also, since the whole point of houses is the different qualities."she shrugged.
Jenn giggled and placed her hand on top of Sarah's, her palm down also. "Okay! Sounds like fun to me!"she said, grinning at all of them. "I can't wait to get started!"

Jenn shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe all the friends. I have a lot of them. There's Jesse, who's the boy I talked about who's in Gryffindor, and I have a bunch of other friends in that house. Then I have a friend named Sarah in Hufflepuff, and other's in that house also. Then in Ravenclaw, there's so many that I can't list them all. Ravenclaw really does become your family once you are in it for awhile. Slytherin I have a few, only a few though. You'll make so many friends though Laura, I promise. Infact, I can be your friend if you want? Only if you want though."she said, smiling warmly.

Shaking Lindas hand, Laura thought back. "Nice to see you Linda," she said. "Maybe we bumped into each other in Diagon Alley?" she suggested. Now she mentioned it, she did have a vague recolection...

Listening intently Satine answered back, "Exactly, I mean I know a few spells but not too many because my rents were so afraid I'd try to impress people at school so that they'd like me...which...I might have actually done that...but I really hope people around here won't think I'm weird because I grew up in the muggle world." Wow, this was the first time she had ever voiced that concern out loud...


"Howzit! I'm Satine! Where have you been? Why are you late?"

'Oh yeah..we met each other in diagon alley...you asked me whether I'm alright when I looked..er..lonely' Linda said.

'Hi Satine..nice to meet you..I was ill in the train..I sorta fainted and was talking nonsense..I was in the hospital wing..I dont know how am going to cover the portions....' Linda said anxiously

Laura smiled back at Satine. "Don't worry," she reassured her. "I'm sure they won't, I mean, think about how many muggleborns there must be. And if they do, I'll defend you! I know what it's like!"

Laura turned back to Linda. "Oh yeah, I remember now!" she smiled at her. "Well don't, worry! I'm sure you won't be lonely here, there are so many of us firsties!"

"hi i am Isabella," said Bella to the new girl who just came by. she looked she was late.

Laura turned and saw Isabella beside her.
"Hi again Bella!" she said. "This is Linda." She introduced her to the girl beside her.

'Hi isabella..nice to meet you..' Linda said cheerfully.She held her right hand out to shake hands with Isabella..

"Thank you! You have a great point. I'll defend you, too, if we run into any body that's mean to us." She put her fists up in front of her face like she was boxing and started laughing...she just knew she looked ridiculous.

"hey Linda. about the portions completing,dont worry. i think we all will do well or else we wouldnt have been in Ravenclaw, right?" she said shaking hands with her.

"O it' great to meet you Linda! I'm sorry you had a rough ride here, but the nurse here is one of the bests from what I've read. I'm a little worried about potions, too, but it's one of the classes I'm most looking forward to." She finished with a smile. She couldn't help but looking up to the head table every few minutes to check if any of the staff looked like they were getting close to making any announcements or if the Headmaster was going to make a speech....goodness she was getting ansy....

'Thanks for that encouragement ,Bella...I'll just go through the textbooks and see.. ' said Linda..

'Oh thanks,Satine..with housemates like you,I'll never have a problem with anything..' Linda said

"very anxious arent you? but i think we all are. i am especially anxious about Transfiguration, you see.i think it is interesting but i think i will find it difficult" she said. as she remembered about the chapter about turning tooth picks into needles and back.the hand movement was complex.

"Well, I'm a little nervous about Transfiguration also. I'm a meta-something so I can change my hair color and eyes color" she changed her hair from a deep purple to a bright blue and her eyes from purple to a see-through blue, "and I can transfigure other things like my lips but I'm always afraid that they'll get stuck that way.." she giggled a little bit with that picture in her head and then realized she was babbling on and on, "but, most Transfiguration professors expect you to be a natural at it if your one of the meta-things."

"well of course you are natural," said Bella "but you see if you get stuck maybe you will have to wait until the professor helps you out or we help you out. but i hope you will ask the professor to do the needful," said Bella as a matter of fact.she obviously wouldnt have wanted her friend to end up in hospital wing if she tried to help her out but instead make a mess out of her.

'Is it?.' Linda asked keenly.
I love transfiguration,though.Transfiguration,charms and DADA are my favourites..But I like other subjects too said Linda

Isabella nodded her head. she liked those subjects too.though they hadnt started their studies yet but since she read those text books she knew what they should be expecting.
'what about our flying classes?" she said "i am eagerly waiting for that too," she looked a bit dreamy. that always happened with her. though she wouldnt talk about things or her feelings about anything much but her face would give away. her mother called her a 'open book'. Bella always would lit up at the mention of flying. she had discussed about quidditch with her mum many times and her mum would explain her the rules and all the matches that she witnessed when she was in Hogwarts. Bella wished secretly that they would leave the muggle place and live in the wizard place where she could be able to fly and play quidditch like other kids in the wizard world do.
