Patrick jumped up as a girl fell behind him, a scream his only warning that she was even there to begin with. "Holy..." he started to say, but he caught himself before saying something colorful. "Are you ok?"
He looked a bit shaken by the sudden interruption of his meal. He eyed the girl from head to foot, trying to see if anything seemed broken or whatever. But remembering who he was and where they were, he offered his hand to help her up. Quote:

She smiled nervously again towards the boy. Broccoli handed the pasta over to Patrick as the girl picked herself up. "Good, because the nurse looks busy." He motioned up to the front table. "Grab a seat, why don't you?" Maybe the girl was light headed from the lack of food. He scooted over, making room between him and Patrick. "We've got chicken and potatoes, right Patrick?"

Ari was a bit relieved that she didn't start out with the awkward pause that she always got. Or had she not put two and two together? Well--she would know soon enough. "How about you, how long've you been coming to Hogwarts?", Ari turned her head away a bit--the illusion of staring is something she had to avoid. "I know exactly how that feels," Karma said, laughing slightly. "I transferred here two years ago from Germany. It does feel a bit weird at first, but once classes start it tends to wear off."
Another school. Perhaps from England? Or a different country. "Are you from England?" Quote:

Siiiigh. She would be paying attention in HIS class, for sure.

Valentine smiled as she sat between the two boys. "Really it's nothing. I've taken my fair share of tumbles and falls." She explained as she fixed her hair and looked over the food. This was far better than the lunch she had packed on the train. "I'm Valentine." She smiled at the two boys as she grabbed some mashed potatoes.

Ari accepted her kind words--but really? She had no idea. Weather she did or didn't--Arienna didn't take that pity crap. No, sir. "Germany? Wow. I used to have two neighbors from Germany", she smiled.
"Born in the states, moved to England here when I was...four? I don't really remember." Memories are kinda tough when you can't see them, she thought.
Turning her head over to the right--apparently a Professor had sat there. Because she could not pinpoint the exact source of his voice, she turned her head, nodding in his general direction. "Evening, sir" she greeted, before bringing her head back to the forward position.

Robert walked up to his table finally after his chat with Lyra feeling kind of glad that she knew at least what had been bothering him, if not fully understanding why he was acting the way he was. Finding an empty seat farrrrrrrrrr away from the first years who seemed to just annoy him lately, he sat down and pulled a plat toward him. Grabbing some food and piling it on his plate he didn't touch it really but just looked around. Everything seemed...different.
Last year he was happy, had a...ignore that thought. Won the Quidditch cup and now...he was graduating, not so happy, and in a constant turmoil about becoming his father. This year was starting out bloody fantastic. He took a bite out of a roll and set it down, the food feeling like lead in his stomach. Why did things have to get this out of hand? And then after he had been so rude to Rose in the bookstore.... He dropped his head in his hands quickly and then looked up, hoping that no one had been paying attention and fixing a scowl to his face.

"Evening, sir" she greeted, before bringing her head back to the forward position. United States - excellent! Karma had never been there, but always wanted to go. It was quite fascinating to her anyway. And German neighbors...
"I hope your neighbors did not give a bad impression of Germans," she said. "We come off as stubborn. I'd like to say heck yeah we are, just not all the time."
Moving to England when she was four certainly would not have been extremely hard, as it was tough to remember things when you were young anyway. "At least you moved when you were young, so it wasn't too hard to get adjusted. Excited for classes?" Quote:

Hmm, he must be from a different country. WELL DUH. He had to have been, or at least homeschooled. And getting lost? She didn't doubt that. "Getting lost... yeah, that may happen. And my favorite class? Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Arithmancy is fun too."
She stopped. Maybe she should introduce herself. "Sorry Professor, I'm Karma Atkins. Seventh year."

As well as nosy., she finished in her thoughts. "Indeed? ...Yes, as I recall...almost every person I've known from Germany has seemed a little hard to persuade," Ari nodded.
"Adjusted... Well, it was a bit tough. New... environment." Ari hated new environments. They called for not knowing where the heck she was. "Excited? ....Yeah, I suppose." Arienna pushed her glasses farther up her nose again.

"That would be a really great idea," she said, nodding as she contemplated the thought. "Actually, we had something of a competition last term to see which House could muster up the most House spirit during the last two Quidditch games. Ravenclaw won that competition too," she added with a grin. "Of course, it was an assignment, and at other times fan support can sometimes be lacking. It would be really awesome if you could round up some other students to do something like that at all the games." Thinking for a moment, the third year added, "If you want to make it like an official club or something, you should take it up with our Head of House for permission though. But I'm sure he'd be all into that." Leaning closer, she added quietly, "He's a Quidditch legend, you know."
Mariel's unusually bright mood fell somewhat as she noticed Keltan's sarcasm. She knew it wasn't directed towards her per se, more like towards what she said. And for that she couldn't blame him. The partnering thing was always dreaded by the third year but she had pretty much accepted it as part of the routine by now. "Seriously?" Mariel told him, trying to give him a reassuring smile. "I honestly don't think you'll have a problem." Not after people met him and saw how friendly and well-mannered he was. "But how about when the inevitable announcement about partnering up is made, I'll look for you and if you don't already have a partner I'll be yours?"
Hopefully that would make him feel somewhat better about the situation if he knew he would have a back-up person when he couldn't find a partner. Mariel paused for a moment. What was with her being so abnormally friendly today? Not that she was typically anti-social or rude, but it was unlike her to go out of her way to be so nice. Sheesh. Something in the pumpkin juice, maybe. The third year eyed her goblet suspiciously.
Still peering at the inside of her goblet, Mariel jumped slightly and let out a tiny shriek at the sudden 'Boo' behind her. Gathering her bearings, she spun in her seat and burst out in laughter at the sight of Sarah. "You startled me!" she exclaimed, then glanced over at the silver-haired Lasca as she expressed nearly the same sentiment.
"Of course you're welcome to sit," she said as the Ravenclaw on her right slid over to allow the Hufflepuff girl to sit between them. "So how goes it at the Huffie table?" she asked, looking in her direction and catching sight of Lasca as well. Smirking to herself, she caught her fellow Claw sneaking glances at a certain table. Yes, they would have to talk later.
Mariel grinned back at Natka's enthusiasm and nodded her agreement. It had been a really long time. The third year couldn't remember the last time they talked. "Oh my summer was really good, thanks," she replied. "The first part, spending it with the family was kinda boring, but then I went to America with Lasca and some of our friends which was really amazing."
She offered Natka a grateful smile when she spoke to her of Quidditch. "I really hope so. I enjoyed that position." Which was something she would have never guessed, always playing the position of Chaser when she practiced at home. "And thanks," Mariel said, quickly glancing down at her hands in slight embarassment at the compliment. "I hope to see you in the stands." Or on the pitch, but she was pretty sure that Natka wasn't all that interested in playing.
Stifling a laugh at the first year's excitement, Mariel gave the girl a grin and nodded. "What did I tell you? It's the best." Mariel helped herself to some more chicken and started to answer Dani about classes but Lasca beat her to it. Nodding her agreement, she said, "Yep, the common room always has the current information... And we have some really great study tables too. Everyone's always willing to help out with homework and studying."
Chewing slowly, she nodded several times as she listened to the conversation between Dani and Lasca. When the topic turned to classes, she felt obliged to enter back into the conversation. "Professor Shackleton has a Basic Arithmancy class now which has made an immense difference to me. It's much easier than the one she was teaching before." Noticing that Lasca seemed leery of the subject, she added, "If you ever want to study together, let me know." She had no idea that Lasca had any trouble with that class. "Oh and flying class is so much fun!" she added to Dani. That was one of her favorites.
Seeing Lasca wave, Mariel's eyes followed the girl's vision to see who she was waving at. Oh, it was Copernicus, the nice boy she had met on the train. And he seemed kinda lonely... how was that possible? Surely given his demeanor he must have loads of friends. "Hi Copernicus," the third year called to him brightly before turning yet again to her pumpkin juice. Dani smiled. "I'd love to make it a club. That would be fun." Then she remembered that she'd have to talk to strangers and her smile faltered. She'd been doing good lately, but she really wasn't much for crowds.
Her mind turned to math. "Do I have to take Arithmancy? It sounds like torture." Quote:

THey were all joking and laughing and had a great time.. it was weird for nate to see something like this. Shrugging Nate escaped form his thoughts and looked back at lasca and Dani and Lady P. "So i lost yall back there and got sorted into Slytherin. What you think? Think i got the heart of a Slytherin?' he asked witha smile. If they really knew him they wouldhave said yes but they only knew the just new Nate..
Dani's grin expanded as Nate sat down next to her. "Nate!" She hugged him. "Didn't find anybody as great as us at your table I see." She let out a little giggle.
Just as she was about to ask Nate a question she heard Ari's voice. "I'll be right back you guys." She jumped up and ran over to Ari. Quote:

At the talk about being home schooled, he nodded. "Yeah, but I don't think I studied...normal subjects." He frowned, but continued. "My mother taught me..." he paused - he hated saying stuff like this outloud. It made him feel like he was sounding stuck-up or something...but, he couldn't stop his mouth from moving for to long. "She taught me manners and stuff. You know, I wasn't born phsyco," he said, half accusingly and half teasing. "But I learned a bit about magic - never cast anything, though...hmm. My father, when he was home, taught me some Wizard history, and a bit of the Spanish language. And...books. Mostly I've just read from books - but boring books, that really have nothing to do with things that are important to a wizard." he shrugged. Maybe he'd read more books than he thought...
When Mariel called a name, Kel suppressed a groan. Jenn. Fwig. Ugh. Whenever that girl was around, Kel never ceased to embarrass himself, whether it be one thing or the other. But, out of habit, Kel repeated the call, waving to Jenn in spite of himself. Mariel shrugged at Keltan's apology. It hadn't been a big deal and she figured being new he already had a lot to keep track of and forgetting one detail of a conversation was completely understandable.
Smiling to try to make him feel more comfortable, she nodded as she listened intently to his explanation of his earlier schooling. "Well, that's good... manners are important." Especially for boys as they seemed to be born Neanderthals at least by her personal experience. "Oh, yes, I learned some Wizarding history too when I was homeschooled. You'll do good in History of Magic if you already know some of that."
After waving to Jenn, Mariel glanced back at Keltan as she thought she heard him echo her. "Oh, do you know Jenn?" she asked him, slightly surprised. Quote:

Cope dragged her down and put an arm around her shoulder for a squeeze. "Thank MERLIN you're here. I was so sick of my own company, and these ladies were being so kind to pay attention to me. Tell me about your summer, including the most boring of details." "Well, good work," Mariel told Copernicus with a smile. That was really something to be proud of. "I worked really hard last year but never made it in any of the top spots. Hopefully this year," she added with a confident nod.
Glancing over to the girl who had then sat down next to Copernicus, Mariel gave her a wave. "Hi, Livvy," she greeted the girl with a grin. Mariel was always happy to see a fellow Quidditch player. Not wanting to intrude on the conversation between Livvy and Copernicus, the third year started to turn back to Lasca and Sarah. Quote:

In the process of turning back to her friends, an older person sitting not far from her caught her eye. Mariel stared at him for a moment, realizing that he was probably a bit too old to be a student so he was probably a professor. Which also meant she shouldn't be staring stupidly at him. Offering a respectable smile, Mariel tried to catch his eye and be polite. "Hello... er, professor?" she said slowly, almost posing the greeting as a question, because she wasn't completely sure that she was correct. A quick glance to the Staff Table showed that, yes, there were a few empty seats so it was indeed possible that he was a member of the staff. Quote:

Dani's grin expanded as Nate sat down next to her. "Nate!" She hugged him. "Didn't find anybody as great as us at your table I see." She let out a little giggle.
Just as she was about to ask Nate a question she heard Ari's voice. "I'll be right back you guys." She jumped up and ran over to Ari. Mariel turned again to Dani and gave her a reassuring smile. "Nope, that class is completely optional. You don't have to take it, but if you do and ever need help with it, let me know. I also think it's okay to try the class out and if you really don't like it, you can drop it." She then gave her a little wave when she got up to leave. Off to see someone else she knew, Mariel guessed. Plenty of time to talk later...

She stopped. Maybe she should introduce herself. "Sorry Professor, I'm Karma Atkins. Seventh year."
"That's good to hear because I will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. So you best be prepared" he let out a small chuckle. Oh yeah fun times ahead for the kiddies. "Pleasure to meet you Miss Atkins. I am Professor Lawson."
Marcus took another sip of his drink and looked up at the staff table and spotted Annie giving Caroline a hard time. He placed the goblet back onto the table with a clunk. "Sorry Miss Atkins, there is something that need to attend to." he stood up from the table and he gave Karma a pat on the shoulder and headed up to the staff table. Oh Annie, here I come!

"Gimmer that!" He exclaimed yanking the bowl of pickled pigs snouts away from Patrick. He turned and found the closest person to him. It just happened to be Copernicus. "Pickled Pigs' snouts?"

Patrick saw the pig snouts leave his hands as Broccoli started to wave them to another boy. He had to laugh.
Patrick then looked at the girl as if she had sprouted wings or antlers. "Vegetarian?!" He said, disbelieving that anyone would forgo meats of any kind. "You mean that you don't eat meat? At all?" he gawked at her, forgetting that it was rather rude of him. He shook his head as he shoved a large strip of chicken in his mouth, chomping away as he looked at Valentine.

Valentine rolled her eyes. "I only like potatoes with gravy, and seeing that I became vegetarian recently, I don't think they will miraculously conjure up some veggy gravy." She then shrugged her shoulders softly. Really she just could not wait until the pumpkin pie came out. Quote:

Maybe like a little bit of turkey on Christmas with the family." Valetine put her fingers just a centimeter apart. If I had a family to have Christmas dinner with. she smiled and then took a bite of her salad.

But by the look of his face and what the boy said next... she agreed. She probably could guess what it was all about. Livvy hadn't really known what had happened after she left Cela to dance with Plymouth and she was quite curious to know how it turned out. Eh. This would be something that Copernicus would have to tell her later. Not now. Nope nope.
She laughed when he hugged her once more and she just shook her head. "Why thank you Pernikins. I'm glad to be here myself. I do.... do I?" Livvy said, cocking her head. Huh. Never noticed. She was blunt sometimes. Quote:

How have you been?" she asked, smiling widely. Mariel was DE awesomest player in da entire planet! No overexaggeration there.

Professor Vindictus was late for the feast but he had good reason. In his hands, he was carrying four distinct clipboards and he immediately made a beeline to the Ravenclaw table. His House. His table. And there was his captain. "Willow! I've got something for you!" he called out and thrust a blue clipboard at the Ravenclaw captain.
