Potions Class 2: Think Fast! (Ingredients and Process)
The room remains mostly unchanged from your previous class. Although still housed in the former ancient runes classroom, the potions classroom still manages to retain its musty, creepy, dungeon atmosphere. Perhaps it is due to the way the flickering candlelight glints off the hundreds of potions jars and containers and vessels. Perhaps it is merely reflecting the somber attitude of the ancient and temperamental Professor Kazimeriz as you enter his domain.
The main floor of the classroom is filled with large work tables, each accompanied by two stools. Each seat in the class has a stand suitable for a standard cauldron and a small bunsen burner for a fire source beneath it.
The walls of the room are lined with shelves, laden with jars of every shape and size. The entire room is fastidiously neat, and all the jars have been organized according to size and shape. Each have uniform, detailed parchment-coloured labels describing their contents.
Most of the jars appear to be filled with innocous liquids or plant materials. However, many of the jars house more insidious ingredients: there is one jar that appears to be filled with bloated pickled toads, another stores fat eyeballs from an unknown mammal, and still others seem to contain the visceral organs of animals - spleens, newt tails, a whole jar filled with tiny black beetle eyes, and wriggling, fat flobberworms. There is one jar that appears to hold some sort of severed hand, suspended in gelatinous fluid as though it is waving to the class.
Black marble shelves alone the perimeter of the classroom hold a host of common lab equipment: stills, crucibles, mortars and pestles, an open jar filled with glass and wooden stirring rods, empty phials and corks, knives, evaporating dishes- everything a young potion maker may need is on hand. There is also a fairly large collection of ancient books on potion making at the back of the class.
At the front of the class, there is a chalkboard, a lectern, and a large locked cabinet which houses the more dangerous potion-making supplies and brewed potions. There is also a shelf lined with cauldrons that are steaming and bubbling, brewing whatever the professor is working on. A large worktable has been placed at the front of the class; on the left, there is an assortment of bottles and containers of varying sizes and shapes. Clustered to the right is a far larger grouping of bottles, containers, and phials.
The Professor is nowhere to be seen. The chalkboard reads simply:

ooc: Please go ahead and RP entering the class, but remember, the professor does not appear to be present! Class will start as soon as we have a fair number of students in the class and will run for at least 48 hours to give every time zone a fair chance for participation (and probably longer, knowing me. ) You may talk a fair bit between one another, but please don't make this a chat thread or I'll delete posts without further notice. Grr, this potion making thing was harder than he thought. Good thing he didn't have to worry about cleaning his cauldron again, having done it previously before arriving at the lesson. Looking around he gulped as he saw some people already finished their potions, letting others try them out. He didn't think his was nearly good enough though, there was one ingredient he was missing and for the life of him he couldn't find out which one it was. Sighing he put his hand in the air, "Professor, there's one ingredient missing from my potion I think. I can't quite figure it out. Perhaps you could take a look at it for me? I think it's a frozen Ashwinder Egg I need but I'm not sure." He asked in his nicest, most innocent voice. If Kazimeriz could tell which ingredient was missing, then he'd be able to write it down, make the potion and be done with it.
Kazimeriz walked over and looked over the boy's plan. "Scurvy grass would do the trick, I think, to get the proper balance... I think perhaps 6 leaves. " he contemplated further. "And perhaps a fwooper feather, to help bring out the uncontrollable desire for speech." he nodded. "Good work, overall. Gather your ingredients and brew it, Cullack." he said with approval. Everyone was doing well, overall... He was pleased with his students. Even those whose potions were going awry -- and several likely would, and badly! -- were understanding the concepts of looking at the ingredient's properties and their process, and that is what Kazimeriz cared about... This wasn't a class on potions invention so much as it was a class on understanding what makes a potion work to begin with, after all.

"Do you think its alright to try?" she asked with a eagerness she wanted to hide, but she couldn't help herself.
Kazimeriz gave the girl the hairy eyeball. Like seriously! He had picked up a hairy eyeball off his desk that had apparently gone wandering -- again-- and handed it to the girl. "Be a dear and place that in the jar with the other hairy eyeballs, would you?" He asked, gesturing to an apothecary jar filled with fur-covered eyeballs all rolling and wiggling about. "How they keep getting out of the jar I just do not know. It's not like they are racoon paws; they do not have opposable thumbs..." he muttered before turning his attention back to the subject matter.
"Alright to try? Perhaps-- though certainly not in the way I think you intend. A cloning potion is similar in theory to polyjuice, which I see that you understand by the ingredients you chose. However, if it were to work, it would need another living system to inhabit... Not another living person, but it would still need something corporeal -- a body, in other words -- to inhabit." He raised an eyebrow. "This is complicated magic, beyond NEWT level, Miss Greenwood. And it edges into something almost dark... If you are to proceed, the potion needs something of you in it, something of your essence. Hair, perhaps... no. " he held the uncorked phial out to her. "Miss Greenwood: spit." he told the young lady.
Kazimeriz walked over to the boy, taking the phial and holding it up. He opened it and waved it under his nose, closing his eyes as he analyzed it. "Excellent-- it looks as though you've built an interesting all around delusting and general romantic apathy potion. For remember, the opposite of love is NOT hate -- it is apathy." He contemplated for a moment...
...and a smirk crossed his face as Miss Greingoth called for his attention. His eyes darted down to her left hand, as he seemed to recall a bit of jewelry... Yep, the engagement ring was still there. She was in looooove. Perfect.
He reviewed her potions plan. As suspected, her potions plan was fairly solid. "You want to take care with that erumpent tail, Greingoth... All in all, it should be a fairly intriguing potion plan, let's see how it carries out. Oh-- but before you do..." He held up Potter's AntiLove Potion phial, keeping the label out of her sight. "Will you help out our dear Mr. Potter and take a sip of his little... cocktail?" he smirked.
Chris smiled as Kazi said his potion was excellent. "Thank you Professor." He wrote done the little comment Kazi said about the opposite of love in his potions plan notes. He then watched as the Professor asked Anna to try his potion. He wasn't so sure. He thought he had done well and Kazi said it was excellent so Anna would be ok right?
Cam nodded at the professor and eyed the person... who was gonna test it out. Lyra was her name right...? Well WHOEVER she was, sheeee had the opportunity to try on his happy happy potion. LUCKY person, the Hufflepuff girl was.
But what if something went wrong?? WHAT IF SHE DIED?! Hm. Naaaaah. He didn't know how to counter-act the effects of the potion but maybe it'd have worn off, eventually right? Carrying the phial of his potion with him, he skipped and pranced towards Ms. Noir and waved, even if he was mere inches from her already. "Hi." He put the the phial in front of her, implying the Hufflepuff to take it.
"I call it the Happy-Go-Lucky potion. It'll maaaake ya happy. And hyper. Quite crazy even. You'll probably laugh... a lot. Sing even. Maybe dance. It'll last for hm... about 5-10 minutes or so. Just so you don't suffocate from the intense laughing," he told the girl, all in a simple and calm manner, "I'm nottt sooo suure actually."
He grabbed for his journal and quill. She was his test subject. He'd never had a living test subject before. WASN'T THIS FUN?! "Aaaaanytime now."

Intent (what you think the potion you make should do):
>>This potions is meant to transfigure the drinker to look more beautiful. This potion is meant to boost the drinker's esteem and make them feel a look more beautiful. This would be an improvement on Malodora Grymm and Sacharissa Tugwood's early potions. They haven't been improved in decades, and a lot of the potions target certain areas like pimples, blemishes, etc. This potions would transform the entire body inside and out to make more beautiful.
Ingredients:
>> 8 oz. of water from Fiji
>> 1 oz. crude Antimony
>> 2 drachms of Sal Ammoniac
>> 7 drops of Flobberworm Mucus
>> 4 Skink Eyes
>> 12 Rose Petals
>> 1/4 cup of orange paste
>> 1 pinch of powdered horn of a bicorn
>> 2 sprigs of Aloe
>> 6 Leeches
>> 25 porcupine quills
>> Sprig of peppermint
>> 10 drops of essence of lavender
EDIT: 1 drachm of crushed chameleon scales
Process:
1. Use a pewter cauldron. Coat the bottom of the cauldron with an orange paste. Then pour in the Fiji water.
2. Bring the water of Fiji water to a rapid boil.
3. Stir in the orange paste counter-clockwise, adding a clockwise stir every five stirs. The potion should be a milky yellow.
4. Add four Skink Eyes immediately and boil one minute past the point at which they are fully dissolved. The potion should be orange in color.
EDIT: Add a drachm of crushed chameleon scales.
5. While stirring counter-clockwise (use a stirring charm with your wand), pour in the 2 drachms of Sal Ammoniac and the 1 oz. crude Antimony at the same time, but make sure the streams DO NOT cross each others path.
6. Bring the boil down to a simmer. Add the sprigs of aloe and peppermint, pinch of powdered horn of a bicorn and 10 drops of essence of lavender. DO NOT change the order of ingredients. The potion should turn a deep purple color, if not the potion is useless, START OVER.
7. Turn the boil back up to a rapid boil. And add your leeches before it reaches the top boiling point.
8. Stir clockwise 13 times and between each stir add a rose petal. Let it boil for 10 minutes.
9. Take the cauldron off the burner. After two minutes and fifteen seconds add 25 porcupine quills and let them dissolve in the potion.
10. The potion should turn lavender purple before being bottled.
Aislynn went to gather all of her ingredients and brought them over to her desk. Fiji water, check. Skink eyes, check. Rose petals, check. Etc.
She went to go get a pewter cauldron (made sure it was a clean one as well) and began coating the bottom of it with orange paste. Then added the water and let it boil. The smell of the citrus filled her nostrils.
She continued to go through all the steps, not forgetting to add the drachm of crushed chameleon scales, like Professor Kazimeriz suggested . It was exciting as she saw her potion completely coming together. She was nervous when she got to step six:

She waited patiently to see if it would turn purple. Slowly in transformed from a bright orange to a deep violet purple. "Yes!" she said with excitement, now she was almost finished.
When it finally cooled. She bottled her bright lavender potion. Then she labeled it:

She had been so busy daydreaming about what font she wanted her name printed in the History of Magic books after her discovery that she didn't notice what Kazimeriz had placed in her hand. But when she heard the squelch sound that it made she looked down at her hand.
"ACK!" she screamed and started to jump up and down as he head swiveled around for the jar. "GROSS," she squealed racing over to the jar. She tried to drop the eyeball in the jar but it was sticking to her hand. She flayed her hand hard. "Get off!" she shouted at the thing. She placed her hand over the jar and wiped the eyeball off into the jar.
Once it was free from her hand she pushed past a Ravenclaw toward the stone basins.
She needed to wash and scrub...
Wash and scrub....
And then wash and scrub, sanitize and then dry her hands. She took a couple of deep breaths before she return back to her potion.

"Miss Greenwood: spit." he told the young lady.
After she was calm she was able to give him her full attention. She nodded as he explained some of the flaws that might exist in her potion. She hadn't thought about that and now that he said it, it made sense. She wasn't trying to create something new so the potion needed something to gloom onto. She puffed up to her full height of exactly 4 foot 4 inches tall when he told her it was beyond NEWT level the potion she was trying. "I wasn't trying to create anything dark," she quickly explained. Dark magic and a Slytherin were sure to get her a one way ticket to a audience in front of the Wizengamot and she didn't want that.
She raised an eyebrow when he told her to spit.
Divas.
Did not.
Spit.
With as much dignity as the muggle Queen of England would exude on a state address she worked up some spit in her mouth and leaned over the vial. She stuck her tongue out and let a glob of spit roll off her tongue into the potion. "There you are sir," she told him.

Ingredients:
water (500mL)
lavender (a pinch; crushed)
chamomile (a handful; crushed)

peppermint (2 sprigs)
lovage (two leaves finely minced )**
Scurvvy Grass - (6 leaves **)
fwopper feathers (1 feather)
Preparation:
Take a pinch of lavander and crush it in your mortar using your pestle.
Clean you mortar and pestle thoroughly before crushing your chamomile.
Clean mortar and pestle again.
Slice up a thin slice of fresh ginger and crush it in your mortar and pestle.
Clean mortar and pestle.
Crush the small root of Valerian Root with mortar and pestle.
Clean again.
Add 3ml of Armadillo Bile to a vial and close the cap.
Set one bunch of jobberknoll feathers aside.
Place 2 sprigs of peppermint beside the jobberknoll feathers.
Using your knife, which had been cleaned before mince the two leaves of lovage and add them to a bowl.
Leave the fwopper feather whole, placing it beside the lovage.
Dice the 6 leafs of scurvvy grass, add to bowl, place beside Bile.
Process:

Add lavender and stir 21 times, counter-clockwise.
Add Jobberknoll feathers, allow the potion to come to a full boil.
Add peppermint and ginger at same time.
Add chamomile and let simmer for 20 minutes (potion should be pale, clear, purple with a tint of green, though the green may not always be observable)
Add Valerian Root**, stir ten times clock-wise, then five times counter clock wise.
Let boil for two minutes exactly. Potion should turn to a soft lime green state.
Add armadillo bile** and lovage** let simmer until the color has become the shade of turquoise.
Add fwopper feather and scurvy grass, allow to boil for three minutes, stirring ten times clock-wise.
reduce heat until a very low flame is under the cauldron then wait two minutes before filling a flask.
Okay, time to make the potion. Getting his dragon hide gloves on, William walked over to the ingredients on the table and began collecting what he needed. Jobberknoll feathers, chamomile, lavander and peppermint. Walking back to his station he took out his mortar and pestle, making sure they were clean before adding the pinch of lavander to it, and crushing it into a fine powder. Taking a few small empty bowls, he labeled each one to correspond with the proper ingredient before adding the crushed lavander to the first bowl. Cleaning his mortar and pestle, he moved onto the chamomile and crushed that as well, adding it to the second bowl. He made sure to have the bowls in order of being put in the cauldron, which as of yet to be filled with water. Cleaning the mortar and pestle again he moved on to the fresh ginger, cutting it thinly with his knife before crushing it into a gooey paste. Adding that to the third bowl he moved on.
With his first set of ingredients done he took out his wand and said "Aquamenti" into the cauldron, waiting until there was exactly 500 ml of water before stopping and igniting the flame at the bottom. when the flame was a medium setting he set about adding the lavander, his spoon already in the cauldron. This was when he needed to make his intent known, so as he was stirring the 21 times he was thinking of how he wanted the volunteer to fall into a quiet slumber before speaking their truths. "19, 20, 21" he muttered, removing the spoon from the cauldron and adding the jobberknoll feathers. Now he set the flame to a high setting wanting the water to come to a boil. not too quickly though, he needed the feathers to seep into the liquid and to allow the heat to permeate the rest of the ingredients. When the cauldron was boiling in the exact way he needed he added the peppermint and ginger together before waiting a heartbeat to add the chamomile.
Now he needed to wait 20 minutes for the cauldron to simmer, so he moved over to the ingredients once more, grabbing the rest.Valerian root, Armadillo bile, lovage, fwopper feather and scurvy grass. With his cutting board full of stuff he ambled back over to his station peeking into the cauldron. It was already turning a tinge of green but it still wasn't ready. It had another fifteen minutes of brewing first before he continued. cleaning his knife and mortar/pestle again he crushed the valerian root with the pestle, cleaned it after adding the crushed root to the empty bowl beside the cauldron and carefully emptied 3ml of armadillo bile to a vial, closing it up. Good thing he had his gloves on, that stuff was nasty on the skin he knew. Turning his attention back to the task at hand, he sliced up the grass and placed that beside the bile and turned back to the cauldron which was now ready. It was exactly a pale shade of purple with green in it if you tiled your head and squinted.
taking the valerian root he added it to the potion, watching as white steam came out of the cauldron, nearly hitting his face. It didn't look like nasty steam but one could never be sure. It smelled of chamomile and peppermint, with a ginger chaser. Picking up his spoon he stirred six times in a clock-wise motion before switching to five times counter-clockwise. Immediately the potion turned a pale yellow color and he stood back counting to 120 before continuing when he peeked inside the cauldron to see a lime green shade. So far so good he thought with a smile, picking up the armadillo bile and lovage, adding them to the pot and stirring once counter-clockwise. All the while the intent was clear in his mind, hearing those poor unsuspecting person telling everyone secrets. the color of the potion turned to that of turquoise rather quickly and he nodded adding the final ingredients; fwopper feathers and the scurvy grass. All at once there was a soft fizz in the air and the potion turned to its rightful color ( or so he hoped) dark green. Stirring ten more time in a clock-wise pattern he took out his spoon, cleaned it with a uick spell and stood back, went back to the flame, lowering it so it could simmer without burning.
now all he had to do was clean up his station. The bowls were rather easy, a scourgify charm did the trick and he stacked them up gently before putting them under the table. The knife was wiped clean with a dry clean cloth before giving the scourgify treatment and he put that away in its sieve. His mortar and pestle were next, getting the same treatment as the knife and bowls. With those now safely - and cleanly in his bag he stepped back up to his potion, seeing that it looked exactly how it should. Taking out his ladle he scooped up a fair size amount and put it in a vial. corking it up he set it aside and turned off the heat completely.

Her cheeks flushed as Kazimeriz called her princess. If she didn't know any better it sounded sort of fatherly the way he said it. She shook her head, no this was Kazimeriz, one of the horsemen of the Apocalypse, not a grandfather figure to have tea and crumpets with. She couldn't be sucked in by his Middle Ages charm.
She looked at him to make sure she heard him right. "A pickled rat," she squeaked as her stomach gurgled in fright.
And one that looked like herself! Ha, those rats wished they could look this good in Marc Jacobs, Paris thought as she walked on unsteady feet to the jar with the pickled rats. Instead of putting her hands in that disgusting jar which wasn't going to happen even if Merlin himself popped up and asked her, she used her wand. "Wingardium Leviso," she muttered. A slimy rat covered the vilest goo floated out of the jar and hovered a few inches off the table. she had to hold her stomach to keep from retching all over the floor.
She walked it back to Professor Kazimeriz. "Doesn't have my style but it will do." she joked.

"Ah, we have a volunteer for you, Mr. Kaiser. Miss Rustovitch will assist you by drinking your potion... what was it? Oh yes... 'The Boost'. Let us see if it inspires as much confidence and energy as you intend." He handed the phial of Kaiser's Boost potion to Rustovitch for sampling, looking amused as he waited to see the results.
Daniel nodded as he walks towards Rustovitch. He wanted to see if it really works. He was about to make another step when he hears Professor Kazimeriz say something.

"Yes, Professor, I will." he said and then turned around and faced the Professor. He then looked at the direction where the student, whose potion is he trying to, is seating. When he saw that she is not yet completed. He sat at the nearest chair and waited.

At that, Kazimeriz cracked a grin. "Well, if you did well, perhaps it shall emulate you perfectly in a moment." Though he knew she didn't have it quite right, it would at least be educational. He summoned a book from the back of the class -- one on a high shelf, ancient and dog-eared. He quickly skimmed it and then found what he was looking for. He pointed to the book, which showed a woodblock illustration of a man, a rat in writhing agony, and then another twin, surrounded by tiny latin handwriting.
"Here. This must be done by you personally, as it is your intent and your essence in the potion." Kazimeriz pointed to the book, which showed woodcut illustrations of the potion being poured on the rat and an incantation being cast: Opus Meus Mos."You must not do this independently, for this is something that could, by some, be perceived as dark magic-- it's a grey area. However, for academic purposes and under close scrutiny, I do not see the harm.... if you even get some of this right, if the rat takes on your coloring or comes to resemble you in the slightest, I would call it a success for meeting the expectations of my class." Kazimeriz said. He gave her the phial and set the book down on the work table so she could reference it. "This is a compound potion- normally, I only would teach this to a NEWT student, but under the circumstances... You are to pour the phial's contents on the pickled rat with your free hand while casting the incanatation, moving your wand in a counter-clockwise circle as shown."

Kazimeriz grinned at Toussaint. "Excellent. I just wanted to be sure you understood what you were working with." he nodded, raising a suspicious eyebrow at the child, but looking bemused nonetheless. He made a note to watch Greenwood and Toussaint, lest he have two little dark witches on his hands with no proper guidance... they certainly both seemed to have an aptitude for trouble and a mind for seeing the shady possibilities of their powers. It got his attention.
Kazimeriz smiled, looking at the potion. He opened the phial and analyzed the contents, the nodded. "Very good. Perhaps we could get a volunteer willing to try this out... Is anyone in the class eager to earn a gold star and feeling less than pretty today, that might be willing to try Miss Jolie's potion?" He eyed the students, looking for a volunteer. Luckily, a good candidate came up.
"Ah, Cullack. Glad to see you were able to work that out." He took the phial of Cullack's potion and inspected it. "You and Miss Jolie shall exchange potions and try them. Mr. Cullack is hoping to have created a bit of a sleep-babbling truth potion, Miss Jolie."
Aislynn's eyes were wide with shock. All the color from her cheeks were drained and she went ghostly white. "Professor, I don't think I want to reveal some of my deepest secrets to the entire class...what if... what if I say something inappropriate?" She was incredibly nervous. She wanted her potion to be tested, but at what cost. This would be public humiliation! Her potion just changed the person's appearance and made them feel good about themselves, but not damaging.

Kazimeriz peered at the girl. What was she hiding, that she would be so concerned? Especially as it might not even work, or might do something else entirely... "There is no Imperius curse on you. It is merely what I ask of you, as your professor. You may choose not to participate in that portion of the assignment if it is your desire." He eyed her. "So opt out if you must, but first ask yourself: how badly do you wish to be a healer? For it is expected during your training that you will sometimes be called on to consume potions and even poisons as you learn how to heal." Kazimeriz smiled sweetly at her. "Do as you feel you must."

It wasn't so much that Cela understood, it was more that she trusted her brother's notes implicitly. "Yes sir." Celandine agreed quite innocently. Legitimately so. She got up to gather her required ingredients, taking her potions plan (and a book) with her.

William looked at the girl who was supposed to test his potion and blanched. He wasn't even sure if the potion would work, let alone work properly. After all it was an experiment, and he thought he had missed one small detail to mess it up. He couldn't even say anything to reassure her. Instead all he did was shrug and turn to Kazimeriz who he thought for sure would say something.

He listened to him speak and nodded, beginning to feel awkward now. He didn't think his potion was that bad. He would suggest that he try it himself but he had one secret he sure didn't want anyone to hear. Just think if this potion worked though, the things he'd be able to do with it.

"Not as bad as I used to," she said under her breath. She crossed her arms, this was such a frustrating decision. She was worried she was going to regret it. "Is there a way I could use the langlock jinx so people can't understand what I'm saying?" She was thinking through all the possibilities. "Or go somewhere, where I won't make a complete fool out of myself?" She went over all the possible things she could say and was terrified at the thought.

Kazimeriz looked at the girl with something approaching empathy. "If you like, I shall cast muffliato so that none but you and I are able to hear you. If his potion works, and you babble your secrets in a slumber-induced haze, only I will know what was said." That seemed fair.

Aislynn bit her lower lip, but nodded her head in agreement. "That seems fair enough." She was incredibly nervous. She took the potion. She waited for him to cast the spell. "Perhaps, William should test mine first, while I'm awake."

William nodded, "Yes that seems fair to me. Now I feel kind of bad for trying to make this potion." he said a bit sheepishly, turning to look at Aislynn with an apologetic smile.

Aislynn hoped what he said was true. But, two minutes is enough to say something you don't want to. She forced a smile. "So you should have no memory of what you say?" Oh great, she thought, that would be even worse!

Seeing that she now had the attention of the professor, Anna lowered her hand and turned her plan so that Professor Kazimeriz could see. As she waited patiently for his approval (hopefully not his disapproval), her eyes flickered from the plan to the professor. Hopefully she'd created something at least worthy of a try, for if she couldn't succeed at a student level, how could she ever succeed on a professional level? When he did indeed give his approval, Anna released a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, then made a grab for her quill. "Erumpent tail, right. I'll get on that right away," she said, making a move to document a few ideas on her plan.
She stopped progress when it appeared he needed her to try something else first---a potion, Chris' potion. "Oh, certainly sir. I'd be happy to help Chris test his potion," she said. He'd always been such a nice guy and a good student, so she was happy to consume his potion and give it the official test. What had he made anyway? She craned her neck in an attempt to see, but the professor had angled it to where that was impossible to do. Ahh, well. She'd find out soon enough, eh? She accepted the phial and promptly consumed the potion. "All done," she said, holding up the empty phial for the two to see. Now to wait and see what it'd do to her...
SPOILER!!: Potions Plan
POTIONS PLAN
Your name: Anna Bella Greingoth
Your House: Gryffindor
Your Year: Seventh
Type of Potion you are Making (choose ONE):
• Behaviorally Altering
Intent: The intent of this potion is to give a person additional bravery and intelligence in troubling times. The potion would give a person enough bravery to withstand and overcome trying times, as well as the additional intelligence needed to guide them through the correct processes to take while in the midst of a struggle.
Stage Two:
• Two stingers from a billywig *See note in "Process" section
• Three 1inch x 3inch pieces of boomslang skin
• Erumpent tail (1 tail) *See note in "Process" section
• Armadillo bile (3 additional drops)
• Ginger roots (cut, 2 large)
• Leech (1 whole)
• Moonstone (crushed into a fine powder)
Process:
• Begin by adding exactly 500mL of water to a properly cleaned and maintained cauldron. Bring the water to a slow boil.
• Crush the graphorn horn into a fine sand-like powder. Add precisely three tablespoons of the powder to the cauldron. Stir clock-wise until the mixture turns a gray-ish purple color (the color, of course, of an actual graphorn).
• As soon as you have achieved a grayish-purple color, you may add in three drops of armadillo bile. The mixture should maintain its grayish-purple color. As you are adding the armadillo bile into the mixture, alternate stirring techniques between clockwise and counter-clockwise. Doing so will help give your potion an equal balance between bravery and intelligence.
• Add exactly one cup of flobberworm mucus. Afterwards, resume stirring in a clockwise only direction. Continue stirring until the flobberworm mucus has thickened the mixture in a paste-like substance. A light steam should also be present.
• Place the lid back on top of the cauldron and let the mixture sit for approximately ten minutes. This should complete stage one of the process.
• After a ten minute timespan has passed, remove the lid of the cauldron and lower the temperature. Because the potion has been idle for ten minutes, alternate clockwise and counter-clockwise stirring techniques for a few minutes.
• Chop the two billywig stingers into small, half-inch long pieces. Add all pieces into the mixture. With this addition, the potion should begin to lose its grayish tint and assume a bolder purplish color. Pardon my forgetfulness. A grown billywig isn't but half an inch long, so there's no way I can chop just its tail into half-inch long pieces. For this step, simply add in two full billywig stingers.
• Chop the boomslang skin into three 1inch x 3inch pieces. The pieces do not have to be measured exactly but must come quite close. Add in these pieces one at a time, stirring counter-clockwise three times in between each addition.
• Chop the erumpent tail into inch-long pieces. Add three of these pieces into the mixture one at a time. Stir clockwise three times in between each addition. One one-and-a-half inch long piece of an erumpent tail will suit just fine. Anything extra could possibly make the potion too strong.
• Add three additional drops of armadillo bile into the mixture. Momentarily, the mixture should appear to be turning grayish once again, but alternate stirring between counter-clockwise and clockwise until the grayish colors fade away.
• Increase the temperature to allow the mixture to heat just a bit.
• Cut two large ginger roots into small, inch-long pieces and add into the mixture. At this point, the mixture should assume a bit more of a bolder purple color.
• Add one whole leech to the mixture. The light steam should once again be present.
• Let the potion sit while you crush a moonstone into a fine powdery state. Add in three tablespoons one at a time. Stir clockwise six times in between each addition.
• Eliminate the temperature source and allow the potion to cool. With this, the potion should be a brilliant, bold purple color and should be ready for usage.
The processor had asked her to take care with the Erumpent tail, but did that mean to handle if carefully, or did that mean to watch the usage of it? Eyes narrowed in confusion, Anna carefully reread her plan, looking for a clue that would help her with the professor’s advice. Perhaps she should lower the quantity that needed to be added to the potion. Maybe half of the original amount would do the trick. The erumpent is indeed a beast of quite a great amount of power. Quill in hand, Anna made a few notes on that section of her plan.
In her potions journal, Anna documented the fact that she’d thoroughly inspected her cauldron, and that it was free of any leftover residue or cracks that would tamper with the potion she was about to make. She’d done that long before she’d even created her plan. With her wand, she casted Aguamenti into a clean phial, filling it until it reached the 500mL mark. She lowered the phial into the cauldron and carefully poured the water inside. She cut on the bunsen burner underneath her cauldron and waited until the water inside came to a slow boil.
In her potions journal, Anna noted how she’d thought to use the horn of a graphorn due to the aggressive nature of the animal. She thought that the horn’s addition would assist with making a person feel more brave and powerful when in the midst of a dangerous situation. While the water in the cauldron steadily boiled, Anna worked on crushing the graphorn horn into a fine, sand-like powder. With the help of a measuring spoon, she separated three teaspoons of the crushed horn into a small phial and added them into the cauldron, as well. Stirring rod in hand, she stirred in a clockwise direction until the mixture turned grayish-purple, the color of a graphorn.
Using a dropper, Anna gathered the armadillo bile and squeezed three drops of it into the mixture. With her free hand, she alternated stirring in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. She’d already documented that doing so would help the potion have an equal balance between bravery and intelligence. After measuring in order to get an exact cup of flobberworm mucus, Anna added that ingredient into the cauldron, as well. In her potions journal, she’d documented that the mucus would thicken her potion, and thicken it surely did. She’d made sure to stir the mixture until she'd seen to it. Sure enough, just as she expected, a light steam was rising from the cauldron, as well. This was likely due to the fact that she’d increased the temperature to the point where the ingredients would all be boiling quite well together. She carefully put aside all the tools she’d been working with then placed the lid back on the cauldron. She’d now successfully completed stage one.
Her directions called her for her to allow the potion to sit for ten minutes before the process continued. As she sat, she reread her plan, checking to ensure she’d done everything correctly. As she read, a little sparkle on her left hand caught her eye, and she diverted her attention from the plan to her ring. Why’d she even have this ring on again? Ahh, yeah. That’s right. Cale had talked her into marrying him. Lovely. Now she’d have to put up with him tagging along after her for the rest of forever. Meh. Cale wasn’t here right now, though, was he? He’d never know if she just slipped her ring off and sort of, maybe forgot to wear it for the remainder of the school year. Besides, marriage wasn’t for eighteen and nineteen-year olds-anyway. Meh. Whatever. With an obvious eyeroll, she removed her ring and tossed it down into her bag.
When ten minutes had passed, Anna removed the lid and lowered the temperature. Using a stirring rod, she alternated between clockwise and counter-clockwise motions until the potion no longer appeared settled. She glanced back at her plan and promptly narrowed her eyes in confusion. Wait just a minute---how could she chop the billywig’s stinger into half-inch long pieces when an entire billywig was only half an inch long? Sighing at her own forgetfulness, Anna crossed out that section of her plan and revised the notes. When she’d done so, she simply dumped both, full billywig stingers into her mixture. She watched with a smile on her face as the potion lost a great deal of its grayish tint. So far, so good.
With that done, she set to work chopping the boomslang skin into three 1inch by 3 inch pieces. Her reasoning behind such precise measurements was that she didn’t want the pieces too big or too small. She thought this approximate measurement would suit just fine. She documented that in her journal, adding in the fact that three separate pieces were used to have the boomslang skin spread thoroughly about the mixture. She tossed the pieces into the mixture one at a time, stirring counter-clockwise three times in between each.
Now time to experiment with this erumpent tail. She placed the tail across the worktable and measured precisely one and a half inches of it. She chopped that section off then added it to the mixture. After a few moments of observation, she noted that the potion appeared to be just as strong as she’d imagined it to be with the addition of three inches of an erumpent tail. That must have been what Professor Kazimeriz had been talking about. An extra inch and a half might have made the potion entirely too strong. With the same dropper she’d used before, Anna squeezed three more drops of armadillo bile into the cauldron, watching as the potion assumed a darker gray color. Using her stirring rod, Anna alternated clockwise and counter-clockwise motions until the grayish tint faded away. Once again, she increased the temperature to allow the ingredients to properly heat.
Taking the ginger roots and placing them across the worktable, Anna set to work on cutting them into small, inch-long pieces. She added them into the mixture, as well, then noted that these pieces were cut up, as was the boomslang skin, to allow the ingredient to spread thoroughly about the mixture. As predicted, the nearly-completed potion had assumed a bold, purple color. With the addition of one whole leech, the light steam once again rose from the cauldron. Merlin, she hoped this plan ended up producing one brilliant potion! It was turning out too well not to. Only time would tell, though. While the potion sat, Anna worked on crushing a moonstone into a fine, powdery state. She measured three complete tablespoons and added them in one at a time, stirring clockwise six times in between each addition.
She cut off the temperature source and waited while the potion cooled. As she sat there, a little tear escaped her eye. She didn’t want school to end. She didn’t want to get married. She was just entirely too young to take on that responsibility. Another tear escaped her eye as she bottled her potion, labeling it properly before raising her hand. “Professor Kazimeriz,” she sniffed. “I’m done with my potion now…”
At that, Kazimeriz cracked a grin.
She moved over so she could see the see the book that Kazimeriz was showing her. She wanted to get her hands on that book for a few days. She doubted that library had that book. She was a little scared that she was in essence creating a dark potion. That wasn't her intention and she certainly didn't want it to be dark.
She had labels she didn't need power.
She looked up at Kazimeriz. "Um sir do you think sometime I could come talk to you about potions?" she asked him softly. "I want to be an inventor and I love potions. I'm a junior potioneer and everything." she told him. She hoped he said yes.
She nodded as he explained what she needed to do to see if her potion worked. She didn't think it would be that complicated. She set the rat down on the work bench and took the potion in her left hand and her wand in her right hand. She poured the contents over the rat, "Opus Meus Mos." she cast over the rat praying it worked how she wanted it to work.

"Very good, Miss Greingoth... it looks as though you did well, so whyever do you appear so upset?" It appears that Potter's antilove potion has worked, after all... but they would not know until Greingoth stated definitively what she was experiencing.

"You most certainly may. My door is always open to students who express a passion for academics and are willing to work hard. Shall we say tea, next Tuesday at 7 pm?" Kazimeriz said gently to the hopeful girl, glad to see that she was deeper than the surface princess picture she presented. She was showing ambition, at least.
He watched as she carefully poured the contents of her phial over the pickled rat, casting the incantation. The rat lay there for a moment, and nothing happened. Nothing at all.
Then, it momentarily convulsed, as though in its final death throes. As it shuddered, the fur transformed, changing to match Paris' hair color perfectly. On its upper front flank, a tattoo that matched Paris' appeared.
Nothing else happened. The mouse lay unmoving. Kazimeriz watched it for a moment, then sighed. Pity.
"Well, then. You should still count this as a success, Miss Greenwood, for you have shown a great understanding of ingredient use and manipulating a process to suit your needs. While it didn't completely transform as hoped, with some development perhaps you can reach a more successful cloning." Kazimeriz looked at the mouse, then levitated it into the waste receptacle at the back of the room, dropping it in. Something about it bothered him, though. "I would like you to stay after class so we may review your ingredients... It does not seem to me you were far from your goal." Just to be safe, he vanished the phial and her cauldron's contents as well... He didn't want her to experiment with it again without his supervision, and she'd need to start at the beginning anyway if she were to try to alter it at this point.

Chris watched from a little bt away as Anna took his potion and nothing seemed to happen, she just busied herself with her potion. He sankd down in his chair for a minute, thinking that his potion was wrong.
He flipped absently through his Potions Plan and instructions to see where he maybe had gone wrong when he heard Kazi asked Anna why she was upset. Chris' head snapped up towards the two with a look filled with two emotions; one that was sad that his friend was upset, and two one of excitement that his potion was maybe working and could award him praise from Professor Kazimeriz.

Well maybe she had pegged him all wrong this whole time. After all her grandmother was just as hard as Kazimeriz was but when you got to know her she just had high expectations of people and she was willing to help anyone who asked for it. She was just a hard woman to know. "I will bring some sweets too." she told him with a smile. She was glad he was over that whole snit they had in Vindictus' office and was willing to have tea with her.
She stood back to watch her potion at work, but the rat just lay there on the table dead and gooey. Her face fell, she really wanted it to work, but then the rat twitched. She perked up again and watched it with glee. She clapped as the ray's fur changed color to match her hair color. Even the red tips at the end. And it even sprouted her tattoo, but then it stopped. Well that was better than nothing, she thought to herself. "Thank you sir. I think you maybe right about the brewing time." she thought out loud. It seemed to make sense.
She turned to look at him."Yes sir," she said. Maybe if she let it brew longer it would have worked better or maybe if she had used more boomslang. She pulled out her potions journal to make some notes to her potion.
