Theo walked into the room, his sleeve attached to his face. It was to stop the tears falling onto the floor, and then Kazi would probably make him clean it up.

Kazimeriz entered the room and glowered at the boy. "Stop snivelling, Newtington. You are here because you deserve to be. When a professor tells you to do something-- to, for example, leave an area-- you do not stand about trying to share anecdotes about your dear mumsy. You do what you are told, immediately and without question." Especially in light of the recent flooding, obedience could save the boy's life.
Kazimeriz gestured to the room, which was filled with piles of little brown pellets. "This is the owl pellet room. This is where the owls go to upchuck their undigestibles, something all owls must do. Those little furry, nasty balls you see are what is left of mice, voles and other prey animals the birds could not digest. Using your wand, you will separate out the bone materials from the fur, undigested cartilage, guts and other materials. Place the tiny bones into the tray on the desk; everything else goes into the bucket. You will use the spells that you find in the book on the table to accomplish this task." Kazimeriz gestured to a small desk and chair in the room. On the desk was a tray, a bucket, and a book entitled Spellwork for Simpletons: Spells So Simple a Squib Could Succeed!. "This is the time at which you may ask a question, if you have one." Kazimeriz said. The boy obviously needed to learn when questions were appropriate, after all.

"Theo, my name is THEO," he said, eyeing up the Professor. "My daddy named me Theo after him. Use my given name not my inherited one." He didn't like the Professor anymore. He was rude. "I wasn't giving you anaecdotes. I was telling you how to count. There is a difference." He could feel an anger collecting inside of him. Only one, which he had previously felt for his sister.
"I have spent my life doing what I have been told. And now I want to do things my way," he glared. Wow the anger was bringing another side out of him, and it didn't look good. "My sister tells me what to do. And I do it. My mummy and daddy tell me what to do. And I do it."
"I tried out for the quidditch team. Something I have done since my first year, and my girlfriend wouldn't even put me on the team." Ok his rant was over now. He hoped. He had turned into something, that he wasn't used to. He had suddenly gotten older. Ewww. Old was bad. Especially if you looked like Kazi.
He picked up the spell book. There were alot of spells in there. He flicked through. What would be useful in getting the bones out? Ah ha. He stopped on a page, and left it open on the desk. He pulled out his wand and poked at the pellets. Hopefully they would fall apart and he could just pick the bones up. Nope there was no chance of that happening. Hmmmm.
Oh a question. He could ask his original one now, "Where is the Divination Classroom?"

Kazimeriz raised an eyebrow. In another context, he might have actually respected the boy for showing some backbone. Now, however, he was merely showing an inability to understand that there was a time and a place for such things... which is what got the boy into detention in the first place.
Kazimeriz leaned down, glowering at the young boy. "Since you want to do things your 'own way', now... I shall not deny you the pleasure." He vanished the spellbook. "Every owl pellet in this pile--" He gestured to a pile taller than Theo and three times as wide-- "shall be dissected properly and sorted before I return. I am certain you will succeed without guidance from anyone, doing it 'your way'." He scoffed. "Also... you seem unable to understand the fundamentals of what is appropriate, and when, Newtington. It seems your mouth is the only part of you that likes to be smart. But you will not speak to a professor like that ever again." Kazimeriz drew his wand, casting a silent hothead hex. "I have cast an anti-impudence hex on you, boy. Until it is undone, if you speak sharply to any authority figure again you will feel as though your entire head is on fire until you are contrite and penitent. Good day, Newtington."
Kazimeriz swept out of the room, leaving Theo alone with no book, only the desk, the chair, a bucket, a tray and a whooooole lotta owl puke.
ooc: Jenster gave permission to cast on her charrie. Just FYI.

Theo eyed the pile. It was big. But he could seperate it into smaller piles. Yes he would do that. A simple elevation charm should do the trick. Now what was the spell. And now he had no book to use. He could make up the spells. But then again, he wasn't that smart.
"My name is THEO," he retorted. He would be called Theo if it was the last thing he did. An anti-what hex? Big words fell short of Theo's ears. Right he had to get to work.
He poked his wand at the pile and giggled as it all came tumbling down. Now he was swimming in bird poop, or whatever it was. This was far more fun than he had thought. Now he had to disect them. Yucky stuff on one side, and then the boney stuff on the other.
He picked up a pellet, just to see what he was working with. It smelled funny. Like baby sick. Oh well. He poked it, and it crumbled slightly in his hands. There in the middle was a bone. He threw it over his shoulder, into the right hand corner. He threw the other stuff into the left. He couldn't break it all up, that would take forever. Maybe Higitus Figitus worked as a spell. It worked for Merlin in the Sword in the Stone. Why couldn't it work for Theo. He was only littler, but far more cuter. Now what were the words. He began humming the tune. Then came the words. "Higitus Figitus zumbabazing. I want your attention everything," Theo sang, smiling. He forgot he needed his wand for this. He drew out his little wand, and gave it a flick. It made a whipping noise, which sounded cool. Ok now he was good to go.
He stood up on the chair, like Merlin did, and brandished his wand at the pile. He gave a little cough, before beginning.
"Higitus Figitus zumbabazing. I want your attention everything," he started, "We have having to break up. Come on lets go. Both of you know now where to go." He smiled, as the song didn't seem to work, but all the vigourous wand waving did something. Maybe it was because he wanted it done. The pile started seperating into smaller piles. And then those smaller piles started disecting. Each pellet shifted its stuff to the left and the right, like he wanted. It was exactly how he had pictured it in his head. Maybe he was magical after all. Not pretend magical like before, but really magical like his daddy.
He smiled as the last pellet was done. It had only taken a few hours or so. Well according to his watch it had. But his watch might've had a little water damage. One could never tell.
Now he had to put the stuff in the buckets and the tray. That was going to be the hard part. The spell? Ah yes he remembered.
"Wingardium leviosa," he called to the small pile of bones. He flicked his wand in the swish and flick way. And the pile rose. Man he was good. Now he had to send the pile to the tray. He lifted his wand up over his head, and pointed to the tray. Slowly the pile moved with his wand directions, flying over Theo's head and dropped tidily onto the tray.
Theo did a little jig on the chair, hoping it wouldn't collapse from under him. He did the same with the other stuff, and put it nicely into the bucket. He jumped off the chair, rather happily. He could do magic now. He could do magic. He danced a bit on the spot. He didn't care if Kazi walked in now, he could do magic.

Some hours later, Professor Kazimeriz walked back into the room, expecting to see... Well, not expecting to see success, that's for sure.
He looked at the little boy. "Newtington! Did you use your wand to accomplish this?" he asked quietly.

Theo turned around, his arms in the air, from the jig. Kazi had arrived. He nodded enthusiastically, "I totally did Sir. I am well good at magic now." He put his arms down. The jig was over now. "I did it to a song as well. And I did the levitation spell."

Kazimeriz raised an eyebrow. The boy had shown no aptitude before. What had changed? Something occurred to him...
He conjured a comfortable chair and sat down, looking at the boy. "I do not believe you. Show me. Newtington." He said quietly, his face stern but his eyes sparkling.

"MY NAME IS THEO!!! Or at least Theodore," he calmed down slightly. He pulled out his wand and pointed it at the bucket. "Wingardium leviosa," he flicked. The bucket levitated off the table. He moved his wand and the bucket followed. "See can do it."

Kazimeriz nodded. He wondered if the child could simply do the work now, or if only when provoked -- it seemed that he could focus when upset. Could he when he was calm? Only one way to know... "I see. See that pile over there? Levitate them over to you and sort them, please, Theodore." he said calmly.

Theo smiled. Kazi called him Theodore. That made him happy. "You want me to sort them?" He nodded. "Wingardium Leviosa," he said, levitating the pile towards him. He stood on his chair again, so he was above the pile. He now had to remember his song. Now how did the middle bit go again? "Higitus Figitus zumbabazing. I want your attention everything," he sang, "We have having to break up. Come on lets go. Both of you know now where to go." He wand his wand in time to the music. He had got the lyrics exactly the same. He beamed as the pellets got to work again. He could really do magic. Really really.

Kazimeriz watched, fascinated. His intent is triumphing over his lack of skill. He had heard of such cases before in adolescents, but never seen a person with such an affliction. Usually, such untrained magic could only be seen in budding wizards, usually in the time between ages seven and eleven, when a wizard got his first wand and learned to focus the energy properly. Was the boy merely... magically stunted, and only now going through that phase? Or was he now able to actually perform complex spells- more than a simple levitation spell, but actual spellwork that would be on par with his peers? "Newtington. Stop... Now do the spell without using your little song. Cast the spell without the song, using proper incantations." He waited, watching.

Theo looked at Kazi, and let his wand fall. He shook his head, "I don't know the spell Sir. I pictured what I wanted to happen in my head, and it just happened." He frowned. He hadn't learnt any spells or anything, just what his daddy and mummy had taught him. And the spells he had heard about in class. But he never performed them.
"Am I meant to know the spells?"

Kazimeriz nodded. "You are indeed, Newtington. You must study them, and study them well. You are off to a good start, however-- determination and focused intent are two of the most important cornerstones to beginning magical study." Kazimeriz conjured the book, Spellwork for Simpletons: Spells So Simple a Squib Could Succeed! up again, placing it in front of Newtington, open to a page. Kazimeriz vanished the pile of bones, then turned to Theo. "Study. Practice using the real spells with the intention you have used before. Clean up that mess... I shall return." Kazimeriz left the boy alone in the room with the bucket of pellet bits and the piles of other scattered dissected pellets, the book open to 'Chapter Two: Charm Your Crib Clean: Vanish, Banish, Scourgify and other helpful spells.'

"Oh," Theo thought for a moment. He had to actually learn some spells. Could he not just think them? "Ok the real spells. Do you mean that one?" he said, pointing to scourgify on the open page. He turned around to see that Kazi had gone. Great he had been left again by the old man. Couldn't he just stay and watch. Theo could just run and leave. Especially with the old man gone.
He pulled out his wand and pointed it at the stuff. "Scourgify," he uttered at it. Nothing happened. He pictured the stuff clearing away and uttered it again. This time it disappeared.

Kazimeriz had stepped just outside, watching through the slot in the door. He re-entered the room, nodding. The lad was getting it! "Very good. Now... what was the difference between the first time, when you failed, and the second?"

Theo turned around and the old man was there. He was only gone a few minutes. Wow. That man was fast. "Well the first time I just said the words. And the second time I saw what I wanted to happen in my head. And it happened."

Kazimeriz beamed and bellowed with enthusiasm. "YES! Excellent, Newtington. You are combining the focused intent with the wand movement and the words." He shuffle-limped over to the boy, turning the pages quickly, caught up in the thrill that always came when a slow student had something click into place at last. "Here. This one. Evanesco. Wave your wand like this, with a loop--" Kazimeriz demonstrated the wand motion "--and point it at the pellet remains, child, not on me, never try it on another wizard. But focus that intent. Try it, go on!" Kazimeriz urged the boy. Certainly, it's a fifth year standard spell with organisms, but with rubbish even a first year can usually manage it with a little practice. And Newtington is a third year, so... He waited, excited to see the results of this impromptu tutoring session. How he missed teaching wandwork!

Kazi seemed a bit excited. He was weird. "What does it do?" he asked the old man. "Why not at people? I think it would be funny." He waved his wand in the loop, liked he showed him.

You are never to use it on a person, and frankly at your current skill level it is unlikely it would work for more than bits of rubbish. Certainly you would not manage a vertebrate; that is difficult for even a fifth year of some skill and experience." Kazimeriz smirked at the boy. "Go on, now. At the pellet remains... use the incantation, boy."

"Oh ok," Theo nodded. Vanishing spell. He could do that. Maybe he could vanish Nia later. He pictured the rubbish disappearing, like in movies. They were good at disappearing things. "My name is Theo," he said, "I don't call you 'Old Man'. I call you Sir, which is the polite thing. And I have requested you call me Theo." He hadn't said it angrily, just quietly requesting it. He didn't like Newtington.
He waved his wand over the pellet stuff and uttered the incantation, "Evanesco." He still pictured the thing disappearing. His eyes widened as the stuff slowly disappeared. He was good.

Kazimeriz nodded. "Excellent, excellent!" he exclaimed. "You are learning at last!" He beamed at the boy, his wrinkled visage taking on at least 100 extra creases. "The book is yours now. But it has a price: you must practice the spells in the book daily. Follow the directions to the letter and remember to focus your attention." "As to your name; I appreciate your intent. However, to address me as Sir or Professor is appropriate and expected. For me to address you by your given name would be familiar and therefore as highly inappropriate as it would be for you to call me by my given name. I will continue to call you by your family name; it is an tradition to recognize gentlemen by their surname, and the Newtinton lineage is a strong and noble one. You should be proud to be recognized as a young wizard who carries this name." He told the boy in a stern, almost scolding tone. "You are excused from detention. However, you will not speak back to a professor again, and you will practice those spells. Is this clear to you... Newtington?" he asked, smirking a little.

Theo smiled. He was being given a book. All his ones were in his trunk in the dungeon. So he didn't have anything to read. The Gryffindors didn't have books he could read. "Thank you Sir." He held the book tightly under his arm. He pocketed his wand.
"I promise to do all that," he beamed, "I will be really good at the magic."

Kazimeriz pursed his lips. "I have no doubt of it, if you apply yourself." he said, then turned and shuffle-limped out of the room.
