As the professor mentioned some of the lesson's topics would be covered in their text books, Vanessa pulled her copy closer to her, as she glanced around seeing who was missing a textbook. She could always share. Glancing back down at her book, she flicked through it a little, as she waited. |
Smiling as Professor Dumont began the lesson, Rachel opened up her textbook at the right page and began skimming over it, waiting for him to actually start the lesson. Oooh, this is good! She grinned and dabbed her quill in the ink pot before bringing it to her parchment. Quote:

Brant saw Sarah's golden hair from across the room for he did not see her when he came in. Getting up from his desk he moved over to sit right beside her. "Fancy meeting you here" Brant said. Opening his textbook that he pulled from his bookbag, he flipped it open and said to himself "Rock and Roll?, I wonder what that is?" |
Reese glanced down at her textbook, scanning the page about Rock and Roll. She was glad that her books were in another place while the flood was happening. Well, she actually left all her school stuff in the Library while she went back to the common room to get something out of her trunk. That's where she got stuck in all that water and stuff. She took her mind off the flood and looked up at the Professor. |
Melanie listened to the professor say they were doing Rock and roll today for class, like studying it and stuff. She hoped they got to try singing rock and roll...How fun would it be to get in front of the class and scream there heads off?! Maybe they could even play around with some plastic guitars like her music teacher used to let them do. How fun would THAT be?! Now excited, the second year reached into her bag to tug out her textbook, flipping open to the page with the heading 'Rock and Roll'. Ugh, textbooks...they were so boring sometimes... however Melanie was still ecstatic as she looked back up at the professor, expecting him to pull a chocolate frog out of his robes or a radio from behind his back, or-or maybe even a giant blow up plastic guitar. Yep. |
While she settled in her seat, Issy squirmed about, trying to get comfortable. If only the classes provided them with cushioned chairs, she mused with a sort of longing for one of the fantastic, squashy, blue arm chairs from the Common Room. A soft sigh fell from her lips and she reached for her rucksack beneath her, withdrawing from it her copy of the class text. Then, still fidgeting, she pulled out a scroll of parchment and a slew of inks of various colors. A selection of lavender-y purple was chosen for herself, paired with a rather lovely crimson colored quill. Turning to her friend beside her, Issy tapped Willow's arm. "Would you like to use some pretty ink?" she inquired. Sharing ink, she knew deep down, had been something she and Juni would do together, but Willow could be in on it, too, yes? She lined up a whole rainbow of colors and her eyes watched Willow rather intently. There was time, yet, to turn her into a creature of sociability. "The Fifties. I quite like the fifties," she told Willow. "They had some strange music back then." |
Dagobert perked up a little when he heard that they were going to learn about Rock and Roll. It was something he was actually interested in since he grew up listening to it; his grandfather was a fan. He also could not help but snort a little when he heard a Slytherin girl retort to a Raveclaw boy. Very sassy. He turned his attention back to the text book in front of him and flipped through the pages mainly paying attention to the pictures. He hoped the professor was right about them learning something new today. |
Laura reached forward and flicked through her text book, trying to find the right page. Hmm, Rock and Roll. Maybe this would be interesting. Then again, maybe not. She'd judt have to wait and see. Pulling the book closer to her self, Laura shrunk back in her seat. Scaning the class, she could see that everyone looked a lot more expectant than herself. Well, she'd grown up listening to it some of her life, curtesy of her mother, but preferred the music that came under the name Rock. Forget the Roll. Oh well, she might, and it was a big might, learn something interesting. Trying to look excited, Laura sat up straighter and focused on the front of the class. |
Oh, great, she'd been spotted. Mariel sheepishly returned Sarah's smile and wave, then looked back up to the front of the room as the professor spoke. Rock and roll... Rock and roll... Mariel tossed those words in her head for a while. She knew of the genre of music called rock... perhaps this is what Muggles called their music? Rock and roll? She thought on that point for a moment when she looked up again as the professor mentioned extra textbooks. Oh, right, for the poor displaced Slytherins. Her mind again went to Nancy as she wondered where the Slytherins would be staying now that their dorms were flooded. Maybe she'd ask Professor V. if Nancy could stay in her dorm room... The third year waited for a few minutes to make sure all the Slytherins received the extra textbooks first before she casually walked to the front of the room to retrieve one for herself. It wasn't their fault that she was without one because she hadn't intended on taking the class before now while their books were soggy and unattainable. But luckily Professor Dumont had more than enough. Making her way back to her seat, the third year opened up the book to the appropriate chapter and began to read. Rock and Roll... so it was music. |
Iris took one of the books and then looked down at her piece of parchment... She sighed and wrote her name in the top hand corner of it. She then looked up to see if Aaron was anywhere and then looked to the front to wait for the professor to tell them more about todays lesson. "rock and Roll" ... Iris wasn't looking forward to this... some of her neighbours loved it and it was quite irritating when they had they're vintage records on, really loud, really late at night. |
Lucy smiled at today's lesson. Being a pureblood, she was rather interested in Muggle things. And apparently Muggles had music that was called 'Rock & Roll'. 'Muggles and there strange music.' Lucy thought writing down a heading on her paper. Quote:

Won't dad be excited to hear that I'm learning about this. she thought to herself. He had been trying to get her into rock and roll for a while now. Dem opened up her text book and started looking at it. She noticed Dagobert was as far away from her as possible. She gave him a friendly smile, hoping he would return one to her. I don't understand why he's so mad at me. she thought to herself. |
She knew alittle about rock and roll because her dad told her that he used to listen to it when he was younger. |

Emiliano opened his textbook excited for everything to start. Already into the hit of Rock and Roll, he started to shoetap a little tune her grandmother taught her not too long ago. Elvis Presley...Jailhouse Rock...he thought the name was it. |
Satine was so excited to be learning about Rock and Roll. Her dad loved listening to the oldies from the end of the twentieth century. She had grown up playing rock and roll around the house and sliding around on the floors in her socks. Her dad had even taught her how to play the bass guitar! She looked at her parchment and wrote down: Quote:

Music, well this was going to be interesting, she liked muggle music. She raised her hand. "Professor Dumont are you going to talk about the music that influenced rock and roll like rhythm and blues?" she asked excitedly. "Like the Temptations" SWOON. "or the do wop groups like Patti LaBell and the Bluebells or the Supremes?" It would be really nice if they did. Paris got enough rock and roll at home from her dad and his muggle albums. She liked the music. It was just hard to dance to. She however hated the Beatles as was dreading that they were indeed going to talk about them. |
Allie took out her text book, and started to read a little bit about Rock & Roll. She honestly didn't know that much about it, besides that you know, it was music and all. She thought it would be interesting ot learn about, after all she loved anything to do with music. |
Divad loved Rock, especially when that's all he grew up listening to. Led Zepplin, Metallica, Disturbed. Great bands, but he was more interested in what Professor Dumont had to say. Never really knew too much about its origins. |
Antonio turned towards the class again and placed something on the desk at the front of the room. It was a very old looking muggle machine, it looked like this - http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a.../TCU-350SD.jpg He told the class, "This is something known to muggles as a record player. They don't even make them anymore, they haven't made them for nearly a 100 years, so this is an antique. But in the early 1950s, when rock and roll first began, these were all the rage. I am going to play three records for you, let me know what you think. The first one is called 'Rock Around the Clock' by Bill Haley and the Comets, and is generally thought to be the first rock and roll song ever created. The second one is called 'Jailhouse Rock' by Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock and Roll. The third is 'Will You Still Love me Tomorrow' by the Shirelles, part of what is known as the Phil Spector Wall of Sound. Then we'll begin our discussion and class lesson. He smiled and began to play the three records - Rock Around the Clock Jailhouse Rock Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow |
Dani had never heard of Rock and Roll before. She thought this would be interesting. Taking out a piece of parchment she wrote: Quote:
Professor Dumont seemed nice. She hoped he wouldn't give too much homework, she already had a lot to do, but she had been told that Muggle Studies was one of the funnest classes. She heard some people talking about what they knew about this Rock and Roll stuff. She didn't have anything to say so she sat there quietly. "Why would you rock a jailhouse? That makes no sense Professor." |
Victoria starts to hum "Will you still love me tomorrow" it was one of her mum's favourites. |
Divad was excited. 'Back to the oldies! Yes!' Divad thought to himself. |
Dem listened to the music he played. Some of them she had heard of. Before she knew it she was dancing in her chair and doodling guitars on her parchment. |
