Was she talking to him? 'It's a drum solo from an ancient Muggle song called Inna-gadda-da-vida. It's usually played on a full drum set, but alas, all I have is a boot.' he replied with his usual dazzling smile. 'It has a lot more energy than Blue Moon, but'cha can't really dance to it.'

Swallowing that last bite hard and washing it down with a sip of chocolate shake, Mariel offered her friend a tentative smile as she sat down next to her. Thinking about the question for a moment and exactly how to answer, she said, "Um... pretty interesting, so far. Not exactly my taste in music, but from the sounds of it... it was a pretty long time ago. Is this what Muggles still listen to?" The third year had found some similarities in the ancient Muggle music to the modern Wizarding music. Could modern Muggle music be even more similar?

"I guess what really confuses me are the strange names Muggles seem to have for things... but other than that, it doesn't seem all that different. I mean, I don't really get into all that singing and dancing... at least not so much in front of others, but it's not all that unusual - although that form of dancing seems a bit odd," she added after some more thought and another drink of shake.

Sarah returned Mariel's smile with a warm one of her own, before listening to her answer.Well at least she was finding it interesting, good start on her muggle education.
Taking another gulp of shake,Sarah nodded. "Well it's still listened to in our house.Music has moved on a bit since these songs were around,it's much more uhhh," she stopped, trying to think of a word to describe the music she listened to,which although old wasn't quite hitting the 100 mark. "Pop-ish," was what she came up with. Now she just had to hope that Mariel knew what that meant.

Strange names for things? Something that Sarah hadn't really noticed, but she supposed being exposed to these things all her life she wouldn't have done. "What sort of things and names?" she asked, squeezing some relish onto her half eaten burger. "Oh not many people dance that anymore,it's much more of a 1950's/'60's thing.Although I guess some people do...." I just haven't seen them.
Sarah laughed when Mariel mentioned not singing and dancing in public. "Oh come now, everyone is having a fair go of embarrassing themselves.Sorta seems a shame not to join in....." She left that statement hanging, shooting a quick glance at her friend as she took another mouthful of burger.

She raised an eyebrow at him. She had no idea what he was talking about. She had to blink as he hit her with a dazzling smile. Hmm, was she supposed to be a sounding board for his lady snatching techniques? She smiled coyly back at him. Two could play this game. "Are you in a band or you just play for fun?" She asked him as she stood up and walked over to the desk beside him and sat down. "My uncle is in a band and I love going to hear him play." she told him.

Antonio proceeded to set the food out for the students. The hamburgers would magically be hot and ready, and the milkshakes cold and refreshing.

ooc: I'm going to come back in a little while and finish up the lesson, then give you guys homework. Continue on for now and remember, I do monitor this thread!

Side, side, back step! Side, side, back step...

Anna continued to dance around and around the room with her newest dancing partner, chanting the motions over and over again in her head as she did so. She giggled playfully as she was turned around, and she felt a bit like she would spin out of control if she didn't stop soon.

Side, side, back step! Side, side, back step...

All too soon, the professor was back, announcing that the hamburgers and shakes were now ready. Anna didn't care for hamburgers, but she sure could go for a chocolate shake! She skipped happily to the front of the room and grabbed a tasty looking shake. "Thanks, Professor! I can always count on you for the yummy candy and treats!" she exclaimed, taking a long sip of the chocolate-y goodness.

Antonio laughed. "Oh, Inna Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly, yes, that song is from the late 1960s, I believe," he said. "A very good song for a drummer, indeed. But I think we'll probably cover that era in another lesson."

He looked around the room. "I hope all of you have had a good time. There are a few more things we need to cover here." He thought a moment. "Actually, we may have covered everything now. I'm going to leave the classroom open for a little while longer so that you can all finish up, but here is your homework for this assignment.

HOMEWORK

Worth 10 points (and possibly up to 15)

Your homework is simply this - We have heard some of the muggle music from the 1950s today, learned one of the dances and talked about some of the customs and traditions from that era, even sampled some of the food.

Now it is up to you. Write a short essay on who you think was the most influential musician from the 1950s and why. It doesn't have to be a long essay, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this.

This assignment will be due by 12:00 a.m. EST Tuesday June 9 (9:00 p.m. PST Monday June 8, 5:00 a.m. GMT Tuesday June 9).

Good luck to all of you.

Demetria finished up her food and started packing up her stuff. "Thanks for an awesome lesson professor!" she said to him. Before she left she bent over and whispered in Dagoberts ear, "Thanks for an awesome time. I'll be at the Pathways if you want to meet me there." and walked out of class.

Rachel finished up her vanilla shake and grinned as she felt the last of the tasty liquid enter her system. Ahh... I needed that. She was still swaying from side to side when Professor Dumont decided to bring the lesson to a close. What - already?! But I've only just started having fun! Pouting slightly she made her way back over to her seat and plopped down onto the chair, a bit put out by the situation.

She looked up as the professor put up the homework and she, almost out of reflex for she didn't realise she had moved until her hand was poised over the parchment with an inky quill, jotted it down. As she began packing up her things, she already began forming her homework answer in her head and she realised that she had a question.

"Professor?" she walked towards the front desk, leaving her things half-packed on the table. "Does the singer have to be from the Rock'n'Roll genre? Or can they perhaps be a jazz singer?" Rachel asked him, hoping that he would say that it was ok. Her parents HATED jazz music - a fact she was never quite able to grasp - and so if she wrote about this particular singer, she would save herself a lot of agonising memories. Plus, I totally love this singer!

She nodded at him. He kind of hit her with a lot of information in like 2 seconds. She wondered if he had taken a bad potion that made him a bit hyper. "Well that nice that you get to play with you dad. My dad tried to teach met he piano. He loves to play, but I'm rubbish at it. My sister Willow is better than me." She told him. She didn't mind that him and Willow had that time together, he built her a lab of her own that they spent time in. "Know any Jimi Hendrix?" She asked him curiously.

She smiled at Professor Dumont. She hoped he saw how pretty she looked today. Even though her clothes had been ruined she still looked like a diva. "This was a really fun class," Professor she told him. All his classes ere fun and even his finals.

'That would be fantastic, Professor. What a great era! The guitars, the drums! Fantastic! The era you picked was good too, if a bit tame.' Jack replied, trying to be diplomatic.

He was sure that he'd turned beet red. 'Um, I gotta go. Talk to you later.' So embarrassed, looking down at his boots.

She didn't have long hair like Anna, but Plymouth bet this girl was still just as fun to twirl around.

Girl twirling. Plymouth was totally into it. Another lesson learned in Muggle Studies.

Christine had to laugh at the silly steps Plymouth did whenever he said "jitterbug". Christine stumbled on a few of the steps, not quite sure how silly she looked. She decided to go all out and just have fun. She spun around, and did the steps with Plymouth. You're really good at this she told him and she spun around again. She was having such a great time, and she was glad that she pushed her nerves aside and participated. Getting really into the dance, Christine started to make up her own moves along with the ones Plymouth was teaching her.

Mariel listened to Sarah as she tried to explain about the music. She nodded as she took another drink of her milkshake. That made a little more sense as the music did seem a little dated, but not entirely unpleasant.

"Um..." Mariel tried to think about what those strange words were again. "Okay, like Muggles call dancing that weird insect-ish name... Jitterbugging? And Sock Hop... although Professor Dumont sort of explained that... Oh!" the third year had to stifle a laugh as she rembered what else she had been thinking of. "Those Poodle Skirts... do you have one of those? I don't remember seeing any in that Muggle shop I went in to get my jeans, but I gotta know - do you wear clothes with large pictures of animals displayed on them?" Mariel giggled a little at the thought.

The Ravenclaw girl cringed slightly as Sarah mentioned singing and dancing - and looked very much as if she wanted to join in, and with Mariel at that rate. She glanced around at her classmates. It did look kinda fun, once you got past the embarassment part and as long as it wasn't with boys as she found that idea quite uncomfortable. She had just made up her mind to give it a try - as long as Sarah was there right along with her - when Professor Dumont announced the homework and dismissed class. Shrugging lightly, Mariel quickly copied down the assignment and got up to leave. "Maybe next time, Sarah," she said glancing back to her friend. "But I gotta get ready for tryouts.. I'll catch up to you later." And with that said, the third year gathered her things and with a wave to Sarah and to Professor Dumont, she headed out the door.
