Hospital Ward

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...-wing-film.jpg

The ones who do a bang up job, so to speak, of getting injured or sick might have to spend some time in the hospital ward to recover. The beds aren’t quite as comfy as the dorm room beds, but they aren’t bad, plus your meals are delivered right to your bed. How is that for a perk?

Miss Avalon is very protective of this ward, and the patients in it. She watches over it very closely. If you want to visit someone here, you can only do so during the posted visiting hours, and you should find Caroline in the waiting room and get her permission. It’s important not to bother the patients too much while you are here, because they are here to rest and recover. If you do… you guessed it – banishing charm.

druidflower 05-26-2009 04:16 AM

Levitating Jake to a bed, Cari felt like crying herself.

What a failure.

Well first things first. She opened Jake's mouth carefully, making sure the throat was open, and slowly poured the calming draught down, being very sure it went down the throat into the stomach, and not into the lungs.

Then she sent off a Patronus to Professor Kazimeriz.

She didn't wake Jake. She figured she ought to give the Potion's Master a chance to burst into her Hospital Ward in a foul temper before she woke the kid.

XanaSnape 05-26-2009 04:41 AM

Kazimeriz's patronus, a large, majestic and ferocious-looking qilin, entered the hospital ward.

"You will rennervate him and send him to me. Surely a healer of your stature knows how to do a simple reviving spell. If you do not manage to revive him and send him to me by his appointed time, I will speak to the Headmaster about your unethical and unprofessional conduct. Do not obstruct me from my job again, Miss Avalon."

Having delivered the message, the qilin breathed a puff of angry smoke out of its nostrils and disappeared.

druidflower 05-26-2009 05:06 AM

Oh it's a good thing Jake hadn't seen that.

He'd have been positively catatonic.

She wasn't being unprofessional and she wasn't trying to obstruct ANYTHING. She was merely trying to deal with Jake, because Merlin knows he's hard to deal with and a firm hand isn't always the best way to deal with children like him. What was she supposed to do? Grab him by the scruff of the neck and toss him down 4 flights of stairs until he hit Kazimeriz door with a thud?

It wasn't her fault that the kid is so afraid of Kazimeriz that he was trying to seek asylum in her hospital wing. And it wasn't like she wanted to let him, but when he got that upset she couldn't just let him run free either. She had to calm him down first before she sent him out into the world; that was her obligation.

She'd have loved to send another message back to Kazimeriz saying all these things, but instead, she merely waved her wand over Jake and said, "Rennervate."

What. The. Cheese.

Jake's eyelids fluttered open, took in the bright light and abruptly slammed shut again. He groaned a tad and tried to sheild his face, but his limbs, at first, felt far too heavy to move.

Well, this is new...

He'd always been excellent at getting straight up and ready in the mornings, but right now... Jake felt... slow. Lazy... tired. He knew what this was... it was the same feeling he had after the last time he freaked out at the hospital wing... this was one of them calming things.

A little whimper, and Jake's eyes opened again, squinting slightly at the bright light. Bleh, calming draughts... how Jake always hated them. But he'd never woken up whilst he was under the effects of one, especially riiiiight after.

But... where was he?

... Haaaaang on... Hospital Ward?

Jake's blue eyes slammed shut once more. If he seemed asleep, he wouldn't have to leave... riiiiiight?

Cari heard that. Oh yes she did.

Hmmm. Maybe backup, however much she didn't like asking for help, was in order. Casting yet another Patronus Charm, this one to Professor Morgan, she sent her little hummingbird out.

Jake would listen to her. Right?

If she didn't get the boy out of bed in time for his detention, they were both in a lot of trouble.

Felixir 05-26-2009 08:48 PM

Wait... waaiiiiiiiiiit... what was she doing?

Moving about... that couldn't be good. It seemed very suspicious. Maybe she knew Jake was still awake. NUUUUUUUUU!

Deciding to make the most of the potion he was under the effects of, which ALWAYS made him drowsy, Jake tried to relaaaaaaaaaaax and go back to sleep. But it was useless... he had never been able to just... sleep. Maybe... maybe thinking... thinking about stuff he dreamt of... and he'd drift off.

Soooooo, relaxing his breathing, Jake stopped tensing his muscles, like he tended to do in a panicky situation... and he thought... he thought...

Jake thought of his little brother Dale. And he was very much drifitng off... but not quite there yet.

As Professor Morgan approached the Hospital Ward, she cautiously slipped her head inside trying to survey any damage Jake might have caused. Seeing nothing overturned, she breathed a sigh of relief. So far, so good.

"Ahem... you summoned me, Miss Avalon?"

Cari looked toward the door and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Professor Morgan," she said brightly, it could have been Kazimeriz come to collect his detainee, and that would be soooo bad! "I did, thank you for coming so quickly."

She lead the way to Jake's bed mouthing "He's awake, he just doesn't want us to know it."

"Jake had an episode in the waiting room, a panic attack. He's very distressed about the prospect of detention with Professor Kazimeriz. I had to stun him just to administer a calming draught. Not my finest hour by any means. I was hoping, when he comes around, that you'll be able to help me with him a little bit," she explained.

Not my finest hour by any means. I was hoping, when he comes around, that you'll be able to help me with him a little bit," she explained.

"No problem at at. Thank you for calling me here. But please... call me Iliana." She said. No more of this 'Professor Morgan' business. She liked this woman and preferred to get past the formalities as soon as possible.

She nodded her head, giving Cari a theatrical little wink of the eye and mouthed back. "I'll see what I can do." Listening as Caroline recounted her ordeal, Iliana gave her a solemn look. She knew all too well the chaos that followed Jake in the presence of Healers. She patted her shoulder in her most understanding way and said, "You did what you had to do, dear. No one can fault you for that."

...

Moving over to his bedside, Iliana looked at Jake through motherly eyes. Aww! He looked like an angel lying there. She bent down, laid her hand gently on the side of his face and ever so quietly said, "Jake honey... wake up."

Waiting for him to stir, Iliana turned back to the healer. "The same thing happened to me, you know." She said, the tiniest hint of guilt touching her words. "You see last term, Jake came to me with a dislocated shoulder. He didn't want me to touch him, so I tried to bring him here. Actually... the 'getting him here' posed a huge problem and I ended up having to levitate him all the way here from the entrance hall." She blushed hard as she continued, unable to believe what little control she had had on an eleven year old. Sheesh! "Anyways, once we finally made it here, he tried to run again. I ended up having to use restraints." She shook her head in shame. "To make a long story short, when the Nurse came and freed him, he bolted. Umm.... breaking my leg with a chair in the struggle." She whispered the last part. Jake still had no idea of how bad he had hurt her and she wasn't about to have that change.

"Anyways, I just wanted you to know. He has an irrational fear of healers. I have no idea why."

Felixir 05-26-2009 11:02 PM

Aaaaaaaand Dale was trying to jump on Jake from the high back wall in their back garden. Trying to play aeroplanes. Nooooooooo Dale you idiot!

Jake abruptly woke up from his daydream-doze when he felt a hand on his face. He felt more groggy than before, but opened his eyes lazily. Seeing Professor Morgan talking to the nurse, Jake would have smiled, had he not been wayyyyyyyy too tired.

And then... Professor Morgan was recounting that last visit. Ahaa, hadn't that been fun?! Well... no, not at the time, but Jake ended up letting out a drowsy smiled at the memory of him being levitated in here, trying to grab hold of anything to stop himself. Professor Morgan whispered something, and Jake was sure it was something he wasn't supposed to know... which made him want to know it more.

The dopey smiled remained as Jake took in his surroundings a little more, relaxing with his head on the soft pillow, now serenely watching dust particles float around the room, illuminated by rays of light through the window.

His throat was raw.

RAWWWWRRRRRR.

Cari winked back, Professor - Iliana she corrected herself, was a good person. Understanding if nothing else. And a witch to be reckoned with, by the sounds of it.

"Well," Cari said having heard Iliana's tale, "I think I should be grateful Jake was as co-operative as he was. Not that it's really his fault. These things happen." She just wished they weren't happening so soon before one of Kazimeriz's detentions. Oh maaan!

But let's be honest. That's WHY it was happening. What a bully.

"Lots of people don't like Healers. There isn't always a reason for it." She sighed. "You just have to do the best you can in those circumstances."

Cari smiled as Jake showed signs of consciousness. Well, now that's more like it.

"Welcome back Jake," she said to her pink haired patient. Taking a pitcher of water and a glass up from the bed beside the table, she poured one. "You could do with a glass of water I think, after the day you've had? Wouldn't you agree?"

He could actually do with some supper, but first things first.

Felixir 05-27-2009 12:53 AM

"Mhmm," Jake looked up at the healer and pushed himself up a bit so he was sitting up a tad. Rubbing his eye with a balled up fist, Jake looked around again. Was it a trick? Kazi was gonna pounce... right? Where was he hiding?

Had he still been under the effects of an epic sugar rush, Jake would have taken off running, to hide... in one of the suits of armour or something. But he was successfully calm (helpful draught, that is) and thought no more about that. "'M sorry," he added lazily to the two lady-people present. He hadn't meant to be so much trouble... of course he hadn't! But he still seemed to manage.

She thought about Cari's last statement. It rang true. Jake seemed to genuinely fear her after she'd told him about her previous profession. But... he trusted her now. He knew that she'd never hurt him. Maybe there was hope for him yet.

"Well, he came to you this time. I think he must like you." And why wouldn't he? She was like pure sunshine.

Play dumb... it shouldn't be too hard... NO! Play pathetic... that would be even easier. And Professor Morgan wouldn't force him... riiiiiiiiight?

Darn calming draught always made him easier to pull around. Not this time.

"Nuh uh," Jake mumbled, pulling the pillow from under his head and clamping it over his ear. "I dunno what you're talking about. 'M staying here," he announced, pulling his knees up so he was curled up into a little ball.

Maybe it's an idea to go to that other school, he thought miserably.

Part of him wanted to get this all over with, but another part of Jake wanted to just go home. Home, under his bed, where he often hid for days on end. "Go 'way."

Iliana sighed. *siiiiigh* It was a heavy sigh. She'd spoke too soon. Maybe all they had been through in the last year really amounted to a hill of beans as far as Jake was concerned. After all here they were, right back at square one.

Sitting on his bed, Iliana pulled the pillow from his ears. "Jacob, let's us NOT do this again." She said, unable to hide the frustration from her voice. "If you want me to go, I will go. But then you're on your own as far as Kazimeriz is concerned."

Feeling the bed dip down a bit, Jake shuffled over a bit, subconsciously making space. But then Professor Morgan went and pulled the pillow away from him. Jake scowled up, pouting juuuuust a tad. "No," he snapped at the woman, looking around for a second, before pulling the sheets out from over him and then on top and over his head.

Waiiiiit... she was going to go? Really? "No," he mumbled again from under the sheets, his voice softer than before. "Stay..."

Jake wasn't scared of Kazi. Not now. The man was nowhere to be seen... so how could he pose a threat? "I don't feel well... want to stay..."

druidflower 05-29-2009 10:22 AM

Cari sighed. Winking at Ili, she mouthed, "Trust me."

"Well Jake, I'll tell you what, I understand you're supposed to go see Professor Lawson anyway, so I'll just send for him, and he'll just come and get you, and we'll not deal with Professor Kazimeriz until we have to." She turned to the professor. "I'm so sorry to have bothered you Iliana."

Cari stood up, conjured her third patronus of the day, and gave it a message to deliver to Marcus.

It irked her to NO END that she had to ask for help for a second time that day. But she had to get Jake out of her hospital ward. Iliana, gentle and caring as she was, hadn't been able to talk sense into the boy.

Felixir 05-29-2009 06:07 PM

Oh... stroodle! This was not going well AT ALL. All Jake wanted to do was stay away from that evil ollllld man. That wasn't too much to ask, right?

Buuuuut... Professor Lawson was slightly better than Kazi... and though Jake was highly suspicious and extremely scared,

After some tempting, Jake would probably leave, but for now...

Poking his head out from the top of the sheets, Jake looked at the females with overly bright eyes. He was scared... he was upset... and wanted to stay put. Sniffling a little, Jake laid his head down and stared straight ahead.

What had he gotten himself into?

Mell 05-29-2009 11:47 PM

Marcus entered the hospital ward and immediately noticed Mr Upstead on the bed and his eyes flickered with concern. He had seen the boy not that long ago, so what had happened?

He moved over to Caroline and gave her a questioning look. "I came as soon as I got your message." Marcus looked over her shoulder to see the COMC Professor. "Oh hello there Professor Morgan, it's nice to see you again." He gave her a warm smile and turned back to Caroline. "What seems to be the problem?"

druidflower 05-30-2009 01:09 AM

Caroline got up from her perch by Jake's bed. She smiled at Marcus

"Jake had... a situation," she explained. "Iliana graciously came up to try and talk to him, but he seems quite set on not going to see Professor Kazimeriz. At any rate, I thought instead he might start, by having his lesson, with you, as it were, and then we'll save worrying about Professor Kazimeriz for another time."

Cari wasn't entirely fond of this plan. For one thing, if Kazimeriz thought she was still trying to thwart his disciplinary action, he wouldn't just let it slide. And by asking Marcus to take care of Jake, she was putting him squarely in the middle, but she was running out of options, she'd have half the staff in the ward trying to pry Jake out of bed if she didn't come up with something soon.

"Ah I see." Marcus turned his head slightly to look at Jake for a moment. He could totally see why the kid would be afraid of the old man, he himself was a little intimidated Kazi but a rule of thumb was to never show that fear. Marcus placed a hand on Caroline's shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Let's see what I can do." He took a couple of steps towards the bed but stopped and turned back to Caroline. "Oh I brought a student up with me." He gave her an apologetic look before continuing, "He has a bite on his arm that needs looking at."

Marcus made his way over to Jake's bed and looked down at the young Hufflepuff and smiled faintly. "I think you've made your point now Mr Upstead, we all know you don't want to see Professor Kazimeriz..." he leaned down so that he could whisper in his ear..."I quite understand your distress Jake, he scares me a little too. But do you really want to prove the man right by hiding away in the hospital wing?"

He pulled back the sheets on the bed and gave him a stern look. "Up you get Mr Upstead. We have work to do and if you don't come willingly, I will drag you down to the dueling arena myself." The boy seemed to have the woman of this castle wrapped around his little finger, which was as far as he was concerned...the whole problem. He needed toughening up and he needed it now.

Sensing someone behind him, Marcus turned away from Jake and looked towards the door to see Ricco, standing there. He sighed deeply and ran his hand through his hair, obviously whatever he wanted to talk to him about could not wait. "Mr Santos, wait for me in the corridor I will be out in just a moment."

He looked over at Caroline and gave her a faint smile. "My apologies Caroline, I promise not to bring anymore problems to your door unless it is absolutely necessary." He then turned to Jake, "Get yourself together Mr Upstead and meet me out in the corridor." Marcus gave him a look as if to say 'if I have to come back in here there will be trouble.' He pushed off the bed and headed out into the corridor.

Felixir 05-30-2009 01:12 PM

"No, I don't want..." Jake shook his head, backing up a little. Unfair. Unfair. Unfair. "I... I don't feel well, I want to stay..." he protested, pushing himself up against the far corner of the bed. "I'm not going," he said firmly.

And thennnnnn...

"What's HE doing here?!" Jake yelled, pointing angrily at Ricco. What in the WORLD?! "Go away! Go AWAY!"

It seemed the professor had left, so Jake sat cross-legged on the bed, scowling. He wasn't going. They'd take him by force before he willingly left.

And meet me out in the corridor, I will not ask you again Mr Upstead. My patience will be pushed only so far." He left the boy and walked into the corridor.
