| | Herbology Lesson Two: Gillyweed The greenhouse was set up as usual, only with the black lab desks arranged in groups of four or five instead of in two long rows along the perimeter. There are no plants in the room for now, just the lab tables and the blackboard at the front by the professor's table. Professor Bunbury sits on a pink stool beside it, flipping through a thick, old-looking book as she waits for students to trickle in and take their seats. |

... HUH?
Why must Kazi&Bunzz use HUGE and TOO SMART words in their lectures?! Cam seriously didn't understand a thing right now but he kinda got it... sorta. Ughhh he eyed the two professors as though they were nerds--a look which said "sloowwww" down. Cam sighed and then raised his hand... to try... answering the question, "Harry Pottaaahh um... ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm," actually needing to take a deep breath to continue, "I dunnoo... but maybe he didn't know it would'a made him grow all gills and freaky toess so he got a spazzz underwater?? Which um... wasted his time GREATLY!" Well... he wasn't some Potter stalker, was he?

"I don't know about any controversial aspects, sir, but the effects of Gillyweed last only for a certain period of time," he said confidently, though he was not certain about the answer. "Harry Potter wasn't aware of that, and the effects began to wear off as he reached the surface of the lake he had rescued his friend from." "Precisely!" Kazimeriz beamed. Quote:

Thinking some more, she added, "The effects of gillyweed also don't successfully protect us from underwater creatures who still see us as exactly what we are---humans. Sure the gillyweed gives us gills and webbed hands and feet, but otherwise, we still remain very much human-like. We still have the mindset of a human and only limited to what a human can do." Quote:

"You all have the crux of it as well. Potter did not know the details of how long the gillyweed's transfigurational effects would last. He was attempting to swim in lake water, and was unaware as to the effects of fresh water versus salt water on gillyweed's transfigurational effect. He banked on having an hour to spend under water, but it did not turn out to be quite enough time and he very nearly drowned, taking the two he rescued with him. There was such an argument on the judging floor over his late arrival, but it was nothing compared to the security detail's argument over the ministry's orders to stand down and not try to save him. Three Aurors quit in protest." Kazimeriz reflected, smirking a little as he took his trip down memory lane. "Fortunately, he did live, or else the world we all live in might have a much darker face. But the key herbology lesson to learn from Potter's fortune is simply this: you need to know what you are working with-- know your plants in detail and take care to learn what they are capable of, or you might not get as lucky as Potter did." Kazimeriz looked to Bunbury so that she might take the floor again if she wished.

Anyways, towards the end of his speech Cy’s ADD had already kicked in so he was drawing a sketch of Willow Kovac running into a wall during the Quidditch Championships…

Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Oooh excellent story. Three Aurors resigning in protest - fascinating! Anastasia loved story time so much she was almost falling off her pink stool as she listened. She was half-tempted to ask Kazimeriz about another story but they were in the middle of a class, after all.
"Yes, learn your plants. See why Herbology is important, children?" the professor asked rhetorically, hopping off her stool then and marching around to the back of the blackboard. There was a jingling of keys and an unseen door creaked open ominously.
Bunbury flicked her wand and vanished the blackboard and the table in the front of the room so that the students could just barely see through the door into the greenhouse behind this one. Obviously it was a bit dark and.... steamy? And very green....
"And now comes the practical portion of the lesson," Anastasia announced, smirking just slightly. "Professor Kazimeriz, thank you ever so much for your aid and knowledge thus far. If you'd like to stay for the second half of the lesson, I really have no objection...."
She trailed off and raised one challenging eyebrow at the rest of the class. "Who wants to test out the transfigurational properties of gillyweed for themselves? Or....even those of you who don't... Come form a line here regardless and then we'll venture into the next greenhouse...."

Ohhh, wait. Whoa. They were seriously going to get to test out the properties of gillyweed? Awesome! Anna stood from her seat and joined the line forming at the front of the classroom. Herbology was always such a really fun and interesting class. As she stood in line, Anna smiled at Professor Kazimeriz. She was actually...honestly...truly going to miss that man when she graduated.
...even if he had issued her a rather unexpected detention.

Quiet through most of the class, Lawliet's eyebrows raised so high that they became hidden in his bangs when he heard the professor suggest that they try out gillyweed for themselves. He wasn't sure what to think at this point, but at the same time, if there was a time to try it, it would have to be now when there were adults around who knew what they were doing.
Hesitating slightly, the Slytherin boy slowly got up and went over to join the line of people that were going into the greenhouse. He wasn't sure if he was going to actually try out the gillyweed at this point, but he was indeed very curious to see its effects with his own eyes.

He was definitely trying this gillyweed out, he knew the risks but thought it looked cool from the pictures he had seen and from what he had heard.

After hearing Kazimeriz's story about Harry Potter's use of the plant, Lizzie smiled widely as she heard they would get to try it themselves. How interesting. Stepping into the line behind some boys her age, she waited eagerly for professor Bunbury to lead them into the next greenhouse. This lesson just keeps getting better, she thought.

There was NO way in this universe Clifford was going to eat gillyweed. Because surely that's what testing out its transfigurational properties meant, right? NO. WAY. He liked to eat, yes. Pretty much anything actually.. but gillyweed was a big. fat. no no.
With a little grumble, the Head Boy joined the line anyway. Bleh.

A feeling of trepidation gripped Kiri. She wasn't really averse to eating the gillyweed, even if it did transform her body to create gills and webbed fingers and feet, but she didn't want to have to go into the water... She'd already almost drowned once this term, and the gurgling floods in that Kitchen corridor were the stuff of nightmares.
Biting her lower lip nervously, Kiri lined up with her classmates.

Satine shot her hand into the air, "Professor, I don't mind being your guinea pig and trying some Gillyweed...I mean we had to eat it a couple of days ago when your office flooded...." she continued as she stood up and headed for the line at the front of the classroom...she looked around at the people looking at her as she spoke, "Trust me, it's not that bad...it actually feels pretty dang cool having gills..." she hoped her reassurance would encourage others to volunteer.

| Baht-ley - The Sweetest - TEAM 947! Melanie listened to the story, hanging onto every word. She hadn't heard it before...she read mostly fantasy books and all, but the story was so good, it could have been fantasy. Hmpf after all, Hogwarts pretty much was a real life fantasy compared tot he muggle world, maybe she should consider reading up on this Potter kid....He'd been mentioned a few times in their classes.
But then Bunbury had to speak up about the practical part of the lesson, the part where they tried out the gillyweed...While she found it facinating and all there was NO WAY she was going to eat that stuff, not unless, Bunbury shoved it down her throat. It wasn't anything against gillyweed or the Herbology teacher, she just normally couldn't swim well and while with this stuff would help her swim better it still wouldn't take away her fear of water and it was obvious to test it out they'd have to get in some water.
Apparently it was mandatory though, so with a small resigned sigh, and with shaking hands she walked up into the line of students, trying to obscure herself from view by slipping halfway behind the last person in line. Maybe Professer Bunbury would only give gillyweed to the eager students at the front of the line once they got to the next greenhouse, and she wouldn't have enough for them...maybe she'd only asked them to come up here to stretch their legs and then those who didn't get gillyweed could go back to sit in their chairs and just like observe the gillyweed at their desk.
Or maybe a giant meteor would come hit Hogwarts and the gillyweed would be lost in the commotion...
...Though on second thought, maybe that wasn't the best thing that could happen at the moment, Hogwarts being her home and all.
Maybe some greedy food deprived kid would eat all of it and get to be a fish for a reeeeeally long time and their wouldn't be enough left for her. Or maybe Bunbury had stolen the gillyweed and the cops were coming for her at any moment to arrest her for stealing and then they'd take the gillyweed away with them. Orr-or maaaaaybe she would accidentally drop it in whatever water they were going swimming in... Right, think good, happy, sunshiny thoughts...
After all, on the bright side, it wasn't the end of her life yet, they were only venturing to the next greenhouse. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Harvey Jarvis Second Year | Horses Forever! l l Writer for Life l Yearbook alumnus Natka looked eagerly at the plants that were being passed from student to student further up the line. From her vantage point, she could already see how the gillyweed was similar to the Cuscota Europaea in it's shape - ling-ish, rat taily like... um.... things, but instead of being pinkish green, it was grey, and not at all appetizing. Scrunching up her nose, Natka wondered how anyone could force it down their throats, and her admiration for the legendary Harry Potter grew.
Her head snapped back at Professor Bunbury's next question. The third task of the Triwizard Tournament? "Wasn't that the one where the Hufflepuff boy died?" she asked, thinking hard. It had something to do with lots of obstacles in... "...A maze, right? It was a maze that the participants had to get through, to reach its centre where presumably there was a prize of sorts, or a Portkey to take them back to the starting point and where the audience was waiting?"
