That was fun she thought

Anna returned Plym's smile, watched him for a few extra seconds, then got back to work on her grindylow. A few seconds later, though, he was grinning at her again, and she was pretty sure she'd been part of his little drawing. She wished she could see it. He'd always been a really awesome artist...quite unlike her. Ha ha. She was definitely not skilled in that particular area. Hopefully she could at least come up with something that resembled the little creature, though. Filling in the last part in her drawing, Anna laid her quill down then shot Plym a mock-"damsel in distress" look. Yup, she was no Picasso.

Lettie wasn't particularly good at drawing, but she might as well give it a shot anyway.
Since she had never seen a grindylow in real life, she drew it like how she imagined it. And made sure that the textbook sketch wasn't influencing her much...she liked to try and be creative.


Once Leticia had finished, she set her drawing materials down and looked over her work. 'Not bad...but it looks like Superman...a very bloated Superman trying to fly away.' Thinking this, she couldn't help but giggle a little. 'Green teeth, little horns, and brittle fingers.' "Check, check, and check." She said quietly to herself and admired what little creative talent she had.

William stuck out his tongue and began drawing. He hated drawing and knew it wasn't one of his strong suits. But if he could make a picture that sorta looked like what it was supposed to then all the power to him. Sighing he finished and looked it over.

It wasn't the best but he could kind of see it.

Cordova sat in the back of the classroom observing everyone who was participating in constructing their own version of what a Grindylow looked like. He looked from left to right laughing at what some people drew and sighed in envy wishing he could produce the same great material that others created. He picked up his own drawing pencil and began sketching what he thought the water dwelling creature looked like.

He sketched carefully hoping to capture the image he conjured in his mind but every time something went out of place, he erased the entire picture, balled up his parchment, and gawked at his peers for being such talented people.

Copernicus took a while to get started on his drawing, since he had to spend so much time glaring at Tino. Really? Was Cela really so easy to win over that all it took was glitter?

He blew out a puff of air and set to his rather bad drawing. She didn't even include him in her drawing. What did that mean?

It was obviously due to his distraction and not lack of artistic talent (yeah, right) that Cope's drawing was so pathetic. Ah well, it got the general idea across.

"Why thank you Sydney," Varius beamed, "I like your grindylow too. His cross-eyes are very, very attractive." He nodded to emphasise his seriousness. "Grindylow's aren't all that bad," he informed the Slytherin girl, "They only try to pull you under to play! They just don't understand you can't breathe! And 'devour' is a bit harsh... all they want is a smooch! It's how they greet each other... like those French people. Ya see?"

!!! Had... had Plymouth really...? Issy blinked. He had. Plymouth had stuck his tongue out at her! She felt rather indignant and a bit shocked. A hint of amusement curled at her lips. What a strange boy.

With a wary look in her eyes, Issy watched the horrors that Tino performed to her glitter glue. Sure, she'd imagined he was repairing it but... perhaps spellotape would have been better for this feat. For sure it'd be not so messy. Carefully, she scooched her desk away from the boy a bit.

Blood. Ink. Blue glue. Sparkles. He was a walking mess! He hadn't even cleaned up after the match and here he was, making a large, drippy mss. Disdainful green eyes fell over the poor quill, which looked more like a wilted mess of glitter than it did a lovely, repaired quill.

"Tino..." she murmured. "I... you know... that's... that's probably quite enough there..." Curiously, though, she noted he wasn't paying her much attention was, instead, motioning for Celandine...

Celandine... Plymouth's ex-girlfriend, stolen by step-brother Copernicus, was being seduced by Tino? Oh Merlin.

Issy had to repeat. Oh Merlin. She was a succubus! A succubus in disguise! A pretty girl form who secretly broke the heart and stole the souls and lives of nice, young boys. And now her claws were set to sink into Tino?!

No! It absolutely could not happen.

Distractedly and rather sick, Issy turned away from the atrocious scene and snatched at her glue, yanking it back from Tino. There was no way he needed Shiny-Things-Loving-Succubus Bait.

Drawing... drawing. Raiden wasn't good at drawing. Well he was at stick-figures, at least but... not drawing properly.

It took him a while, and it wasn't the best rendering of a Grindylow ever seen, but it... it would be okay, right? Right.

SPOILER!!: Grindylow Ahoy!

He put his chin on his desk and stared at the drawing, eyes crossing slightly as he tried not to pay attention to all the rest of the class.

After scanning his classmates drawings, Cordova tried again not caring a bloody hell exactly what the finishing product looked like. After sketching and adding some color to his parchment, Cordova shrugged examining the piece of crap he called art, and flipped his paper face down so no one else could see what he garbage he threw together and waited for further instructions.

Abby sits at her desk trying to figure out what a grindylow would look like. It doesn't matter what a grindylow is suppose to look like. I'm so lousy at drawing the poor thing with just look like a weird creature when I get finished with him. Abby looks over at the boy across the aisle's drawing. She couldn't help but smile at him. Abby love what he's done with one Copernicus Kettleburn. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. She give up hoping Professor Lawson will change his mind and decide he doesn't want a drawing of a grindylow. Abby takes a quick glance at Mr. Kettleburn's drawing. She would call him Copernicus, but since they are only just acquanted that wouldn't be proper. Mr. Kettleburn isn't the only one who know proper manners. Abby takes her quill and various colored inks and gets started. She finishes her drawing and takes another look at Kettleburn's drawing. Her drawing doesn't look a think like his or the boys acroos the aisle. Abby hopes she doesn't get zero for the class. She also hopes she doesn't run into any grindylows who have had the misfortune of seeing her drawing either.

Professor Lawson walked amongst the students surveying each of their drawings and he nodded as he passed each desk. They were all extremely good. He paused by Copernicus Kettleburn's desk and smiled. "Very good Mr Kettleburn, yours looks as though its had plenty of kids to eat." He chuckled as he moved on and he stopped at Tino's desk and looked at his drawing with a raised eyebrow. "Not a fan of Mr Kettleburn then?"

He continued to move through the desks. "Nice work Abby, Cordova, Raiden and Issy." Lawson nodded his approval as he moved on again. "William, Lettie, Anna and Ash very good also." He was probably going to have to make a nice room off his office to show off everyone's work. He continued his way around the room. "Also great work from Clifford, Evangeline, Naomi, Wesley, Sydney, Vanessa, Satine, Daniel, Varius and Princess." He gave them a wink as he walked back to front of the class.

"Miss Toussaint and Mr Morgan, you have quite a flair for the arts." Lawson looked at Plymouth for a moment. "Seems you have found your calling Mr Morgan." He flicked his wand at the board and the word Kappa's appeared.

"For those of you who haven't finished your drawings please be sure to hand them in at the end of class. Okay so let's move onto the next water demon. Kappa's. Who can tell me about this particular water demon?"

Chris raised his hand. "Sir a Kappa is a Japanese creature that resembles a monkey of sorts. It had web hands and drags prey underwater and strangles them."

Cela raised her hand, "The Kappa is pretty scary, they are from Japan but have been spotted in Mongolia too and we have some in our lake at home. They have this weird dent in their head that has to stay filled with water, and the way you defeat it, because they are so polite, is to bow at them and they will bow back and spill their head water. They haven't been kept very well hidden from Muggles, Japan has a lot of problems with it and there are many myths surrounding them in muggle culture. They live in shallow water and the other way to defeat them is by throwing a cucumber with your name on it at them. So you could transfigure something into a cucumber."

Plymouth Morgan had found his calling...?


CUE BEAM.


He couldn't have been more pleased with himself if Professor Lawson had given him a HUG. Or anyone, really. There was a serious lack of hugs in Plymouth Morgan's life. Sigh.


"Thank you SIR!"


... but there was one more matter to attend to. What did Professor Lawson mean when said Tino didn't like Copernicus? HM? Plymouth scooted his desk back and craned his neck and nearly fell out of his chair trying to see Tino's drawing. Snort!!!!


Plymouth went back to his seat and got busy on "taking notes" or "practicing his calling". In a hurried way, Plymouth raised his hand to answer real quick.

"Kappas FEAR Ravenclaws because we're all so witty and they're easily out-witted. Sir."

Jeez.. how was it Celandine knew EVERYTHING? It wasn't fair! Hmpf. Wrinkling his nose, Clifford raised his hand. "They're a water demon from Japan! That's a loooong, looong way away. And they're like vampires.. they want your blood. They sorta look like a monkey, and they live in the shallow water." Even the shallow places weren't safe. EEEK!

Sigh.

Lawson had totally just winked at her. Maybe not just at her, but definitely at her too, at least. Hihihihi! So absorbed she was in looking at him, she almost missed the question. ACK! Focus, Green. Blushing a little, Evangeline raised her hand. "They're from Japan, which makes them totally cool. But they grab and strangle waders in their pond, which is moooost definitely not cool." And you're sounding like a loser, Green! "They sorta resemble a scaly monkey with webbed hands. Freaky." She quickly finished, her hand dropping back onto the table.

Raising her hand, Anna said, "Kappas are Japanese water-dwellers, although they're commonly found in Mongolia. They live in shallow ponds and rivers, and they look sort of like a monkey with scales. They have webbed hands, too," she said. "The freaky thing about Kappas is that they grab people wading in their ponds and strangle them to death! You can defeat them, though. There's this hollow on the top of their head that carries water. If you can get the kappa to bow, the water in the hollow will run out, and the kappa loses its strength. You can also persuade it not to harm you if you throw it a cucumber with your name carved into it."

Lyra tapped with her fingers on her desk , raising her hand in the air carefully. "uhm, Kappa's are from Japan, right? they look like scale-covered monkeys and they prey on human blood .
They would strangling anyone unlucky enough to wade into their ponds and rivers." Lyra said, lowering her hand.

Sitting beside Issy, and clearly oblivious to everything, Willow had been doing what she did best: Stare at Lawson. Or was it second best? No, she could thing on more than two things that she could do better . . .

. . . Whatever. The point was that she'd been busy and distracted. Which is why that when Professor Lawson indicated them to hand the drawings before the class ended, she blinked a couple of times. What drawings? Peeking at Issy's, the girl realized that they were supposed to draw some green . . . thing. Huh.

"Kappas are from Japan," Right? With her hand in the air, she continued, "And their strenght comes from a depression on the top of their heads that happens to be full of water."

"Kappas are the sole creators of the wizarding cocktail Bloody Bunbury. My Mum likes them and they are very affordable in places like the Three Broomsticks, sir. I think I would prefer a carrot in mine instead of celery, though..." he answered.

"Excellent answers and you are all correct so you can all have a point each. Kappa's strength comes from the hollow in its head where it holds water and the way to defeat it is to get it to bow so the water runs out." Lawson pushed off his desk and moved over to Plymouth. "While Mr Morgan, is telling me how he would out wit a Kappa, who can tell me the M.O.M. classification of a Kappa and what the classification stands for?"

Marcus looked over at Mr Tipps and stared at him for a moment. "And I prefer my Bloody Bunbury, with a little something sweet added to it, otherwise it's extremely sour." He smirked a little before looking back down at Plymouth waiting for his answer.

Cela raised her hand, "It's classification is XXXX Dangerous, requires specialist knowledge, skilled wizard may handle." Celandine answered.

Oh! I know this!, Wesley thought, excited. Actually, she didn't know it. But she DID have a text book right in front of her.

Staring around at the others nervously, slightly afraid to answer, she tentatively raised her hand, The M.O.M. Classification is XXXX. That means that it is dangerous, requires special knowledge to handle, and should only be confronted by a skilled wizard."

She smiled timidly but happily, proud of answering her very first question. And it was all because of her Arithmancy homework.

Shaking slightly, she stared back down at the desk. That hadn't been so bad...

Copernicus grunted quietly. Celandine had already answered the question, so he wasn't going to offer the same answer again, but it was obvious... he didn't agree with the MoM rating.

And what was up with Tino drawing nasty pictures of him in class? What had he done to the younger boy? He was just sitting here, innocently glaring at the back of the other boy's head. Harmless.
