Lyra sat towards the back of the classroom taking notes. The class was interesting and yes, she was okay with the professor for the most part. He called her princess after all so he was starting to know her a little better than she thought. She listened with great detail about the merpeople and all the other crazy things, its, beings that were with them in that nasty lake water, that seemed to now be everywhere.

Copernicus raised his hand, although he wasn't completely sure of his answer. "Professor, would Diffindo work as well?" It seemed like a cleaving spell might be handy in breaking those little grindylow fingers, but some spells were just better suited for cutting different items than others.

He settled back down into his seat and glared at the back of Tino's stupid head.

Raising her hand, Anna said, "What about Repello, the Repelling Spell? That should keep the grindylow away, right?" If she had the spell defined correctly, it definitely should push the creature away, so that he couldn't grip her in the first place.

Cela raised her hand, "You could glisseo their fingers too I suppose, and you'd just slip free." Celandine was shooting curious glances at Tino to see what he was going to do with the glue.

Plymouth raised his hand. "Couldn't you just use a nice confundus curse or something???" Plymouth was horrified at all this cutting and slashing - and most of all - finger breaking. "I mean, is it ... necessary to hurt the little fellow? Admittedly, I'm not a fan, but I don't want to CUT or BREAK them."

People at this school were scary.

Plymouth shot a glance at Tino as if he were the embodiment of scary.

"We could just confuse the little guy and let him go on his merry little way." Plymouth turned to watch and listen to Anna. See? Non-violence. He smiled at her, the special just for Anna smile, and raised his hand again, "I like her way best."

Issy turned in her seat and glanced up at Plymouth.

"Yes," she told him, "but Anna's way only works before the little demon has gotten a hold of you. Professor Lawson asked how to release it, therefore, her way wouldn't work for that."

Herminny raised her hand and said, "I believe that spell is relashio".

Satine had another idea and shot her hand up in the air, "Professor, could you use the spell Immobulus to freeze them in the spot while you got away...this would be useful before or after they grabbed you I think atleast" she rather liked the idea of not hurting the little guys.

"Yes, yes all very good. That would be the most effective spell to use. You can all have a point each."

"Well they do have strong fingers, so even though they are being levitated I don't think they would let go. But yes your other answers are very good and could most certainly work. Take a point."

"You could" he replied slowly. "But sometimes even though a person or creature has been stunned, they will still have a hold of you. For instance in the muggle world when a person has been electrocuted they usually still have a hold of the object. Take a point anyway, you could certainly try the stunning spell."

Lawson continued to move throughout the students and he paused by the Hufflepuff's desk and looked down at her notes. "Good work Princess" he murmured before moving off again.

"Yes that was the other answer I was looking for. Thank you Mr Kettleburn, have a point."

"Yes you certainly could Miss Greingoth. A point for your answer."

Lawson raised an eyebrow at Celandine. "You certainly like to think outside the box Miss Toussaint. yes I suppose that could work. One point."

"Hmm...I'm not sure Plymouth. Grindylows as with any creature do not have the same minds as humans. So it is quite possible that the confundus charm may not work in the same way. But I will give you a point for your answer anyway."

"That is quite true Issy, but I like people to think outside the square. if you are being attacked and you are fast enough than I can't see why the repello charm shouldn't work."

"So long as you immobilised them before they got a hold of you otherwise you will have a frozen Grindylow stuck to your arm. Have a point for your answer."


"You could also use the severing charm. Not particularly nice but hey it's either you or the Grindylow right?" Lawson moved back to the front of the class and leaned against his desk. "Okay so for a bit of fun, I want you to draw me a picture of your impression of a Grindylow. Once you have done that we'll move on to Kappa's."

Ignorant of the current bestial nonviolence discussion, Tino was concentrating on piecing his quill back together. He wasn't quite sure where the ink went but maybe it could be refilled once it was fixed. La-dee-dahh. Issy was so kind as to lend him her glue. It was even. . . sparkly. And blue. His quill was going to be the fanciest in the class!

Unscrewing the cap off the top of the little jar, Tino swirled its contents with the brush. A little dab here. A little dab there. Splishity-splashity. Sploosh! Hmm. This stuff was drippy. Tino turned backwards in his chair and motioned towards Celandine. He held up his newly-gluey writing utensil, covered in blue sparkles, and grinned. He knew Cela was a lady who appreciated pretty things. Maybe she would appreciate a man with pretty things.

Cela was getting her things ready to draw a grindylo....ohhhh wassat!? Sparklyyyy!

Cela grinned back at Tino and applauded soundlessly. That was SOOOO...


... Fetch.

Chris shook his head "Ok Professor I see your point about stunning them." he said making a note of that on his paper.

Ooh a drawing he loved to do drawings for his classes. A Grindylow this would be fun. He carefully drawed and then labeled the main parts of his drawing and then looked at the finished product.

Satine was not an artist at all, but she tried as hard as she could to draw a grindy...she gave it long fingers, horns, yellow nasty teeth, and HUGE eyes...the better to see you with...she thought with a giggle...she colored it in and gave it some legs that could also be used as a tail fin thingy...

She looked at it and kind of rolled her eyes...ugh...it was ugly...

Lyra's green eyes looked up to meet the professor's as he called her Princess yet again. Okay! He was fitting in very well in her book and maybe it was time to just let go and be nice to him. He was the talented Professor around the grounds and the water. She smirked as she pulled out another piece of parchment and began to draw her drawing of a grindylow. It didn't take her long as she laid her quill down on her desk and giggled under her breath at her grindylow! She loved drawing, even though she was HORRIBLE at it!

Tino beamed back at Cela, then nervously put the tip of the quill in his mouth, still grinning. Clumps of blue glitter smeared his lips. Ha! He'd made Cela smile. And she'd given him her handerchief as a present! What a girl. How on earth did Cela end up with such a. . . he tried to steal a glance at the Ravenclaw who knew it all. Unfortunately the teacher's pet was sitting directly behind him. Grrrr.

Well. Kettleburn may not yet suffer the devastating wrath of Tino's glare, but it was only a matter of time. The likelihood of one person possessing the qualities of handsomeness and intelligence and likeability and eloquent speech and manners and a super-pretty girl was certainly impossible. The recipient had to be the usurper of some Dark magic.

Turning back to his paper, Tino started his drawing of the grindylow. Forgetting the glitter-blue mess and the ink stains and the leftover blood decorating his mouth, he was quickly engrossed. A little too engrossed.

The boy snickered quietly to himself.

Professor Lawson was human after all! If Plymouth didn't know better... he'd say they'd bonded. So, Plymouth got to work making his picture extra special.

He even found a little "hehe" while he worked - or maybe that was for after he turned around to stick his tongue out at Issy-know-it-all. Whichever, it happened.





Plymouth grinned at his work, then at Anna, then at his work, then at Anna.

Water demons? Augamenti charm? If anything it was probably Professor Lawson who was starting all these floods. He had a WATER fetish. But he should maybe ask Professor Bunbury about that, huh? Anyway, he set off scribbling away, making his drawing and his end result was:

"His name is Harold. He helps people with their luggage. He's lovely really," Varius explained before making coo'ing noises at his picture. "Whooo isss aaa good grindy-face. Yesss! You areee! Coochie coochie cooooooo!"

Celandine was so impressed with Tino's makeshift blue glitter quill, she inicluded it in her drawing. And Tino. And herself.

As soon as she was done, she turned to face Tino and held it up so he could see. The only problem with doing a full colour drawing was the smudges of ink that inevitably ended up all over her face and fingers, she had blue smudge right on her nose.

Oh no! Oh no, oh no, oh no. Evangeline's eyes widened so much when Lawson told them to drawn, the Prefect was scared they'd just pop out they sockets. EEEEH! Anyone who might have been unfortunate enough to see one of Evangeline's drawings knew that .. well, that wasn't one of her talents! Oh well.

Shrugging her shoulders in resignation, Evangeline pulled a piece of parchment closer and got on with work.

Evangeline almost died of embarrassment when she finished her drawing and took a good look at it. Ack! That was siiiilly! Did that look like a dark creature? NO! It did not. Blushing to new levels of red at the prospect of Professor Lawson *sigh* seeing her not so masterpiece, Evangeline folded her arms on top of it. There!

OOOH! Drawing! FUN, FUN, FUN!

Clifford, who had been relatively quiet throughout the class, perked up when he heard they were allowed to draw. SQUEE! Leaning over his parchment, the Head Boy got to work. A dab of colour here and there.. bit o' green.. Hmmm.

A little unsure, the Head Boy held up his drawing. He hadn't ever seen a Grindylow before, so he'd used his imaginations.

Grindylows were scary.

Eep. Drawing. Vanessa liked drawing. This lesson rocked. Smiling, a little like a loony person, Vannie pulled a piece of parchment closer to her, so that she could draw a grindylow.
After she had drawn the outline, she quickly coloured in her rather bad, impression of a grindylow, grinning. Yey green.

After she had finished, Vanessa looked at the drawing, smiling a little. Well it was alright....kinda.

Draw a Grindy? yay! Sydney loved to doodle but doesn't mean that she was good at it. Scratching her head, she pictured a Grindylow in her head and started doodling.



She grinned at the drawing of her Grindy, it wasn't VERY bad.

Glancing around to see the results of the rest of the class, Sydney nudged second year huffie, Varius Tipps, "Harold is too cute." She said to him with a smile.

"Thanks!," Wesley gratefully answered back, "Cella is a pretty name too!" Taking a seat next to the friendly Ravenclaw, she set out her scant supplies, and smiling, turned to look at the book.

Sneaking glances at the older girl, she thought she looked awfully preoccupied. But it wasn't like she could say anything, after all she had just met the girl, so Wesley decided to be quiet and read.

She honestly tried to stay up with the class, but people answered questions before she could even find the right page in the text book. She was so slow. Everybody had everything memorized. Secretly, Wesley promised herself that this summer she was going to go over everything and have stuff memorized for next year.

Taking down notes, her hand cramping, she breathed a sigh of relief when the professor said they could draw what a Grindylow looked like. Grabbing a new sheet, quill held hard against the parchment, she wrinkled her nose, focusing hard.


Wesley smiled, setting her paper farther up and sat back in her chair. She hoped she had spelled Grindylow right. It looked right...to her anyway.

YES! This was Aaron's time to shine.

Naomi looked down at her paper and drawing. Drawing is really not her strong point but all of the professors seem to be giving them assignments that require drawing which sucked, but what could she do.
