DADA. Her first DADA class in Hogwarts. Cool.

Alice walked in, took a thorough glance inside the class and duly wished the Professor before settled in the first row. She was fully equipped. Everything was handy.

She waited for the lesson to begin..as usual..calm and patient.

Walking in nervously, Wesley gave a quick, half-raised wave to the professor. "Hello Professor Lawson," she said slowly, smiling shyly and trying not to stutter; Defence Against the Dark Arts always made her a bit jittery, and it was hard to talk to a teacher. Then again, it was hard to talk to anyone, the small first-year was intimidated very easily.

Left hand protectively hovering over her hip holster, she paused in the back, looking for a place to sit. Last time hadn't been so bad, in fact, it had been kind of fun, but the announcement had said to bring her book on Dark Creatures. And dark creatures where scary.

Wesley was worried not just about the creature part, but the textbook as a whole too. She didn't have a textbook, just some borrowed quills and parchment.

Upon hearing the professor mention sharing, she looked around timidly, biting her bottom lip.

Almost breathing out a sigh of relief, the petite brunette walked over to the Ravenclaw. She seemed nice- smiling and everything. And she was a Ravenclaw. Even though Wesley had only met one so far, she was about 100% positive that Ravenclaws where the best.

"Ummmm...Hi. D-do y-you th-think m-may-b-be I-i c-could sh-share with y-you?" she asked quietly, stumbling over her words and smiling her best slightly-crooked-teeth smile. "M-my n-name i-is W-wes-l-ley," she added, remembering to introduce herself, too preoccupied with the idea of the girl rejecting her to be embarrassed of her male name.

"Sure you can! Hiiii Wesley! That's a cool name, I'm Celandine but call me Cela its just easier." Celandine gestured to the seat next to her and pushed her textbooks over for sharing, a friendly grin on her face.

She was so not peeking at Plymouth or Copernicus.

Lawson gave the Head Girl a warm smile. "Getting there Miss Greingoth and thank you for asking."

"That is very good of you Miss Toussaint." He nodded at the young Ravenclaw and noticed that she wasn't her usual bubbly self. In actual fact there seemed to be quite a few students who were looking a little flat.

Marcus chuckled at the boy. "Well gee thanks Plymouth, I might just hold you to that." He raised an eyebrow at the obvious flirting he was doing with Lettie. He let it go...for now.

"Good day to you Miss Kovac" he said returning her smile.


"Alright let's get started shall we?" He continued to walk amongst the students making sure they had all the equipment they needed.

"Okay since we seemed to be experiencing a water problem in Hogwarts at the moment, I thought it may be prudent to cover water demons." Lawson paused for a moment as he looked over the students. "So please raise your hand and name some demons of the deep? Just give me the names for now. I'm willing to accept mythical creatures as well."

Paris raised her hand, "Kappas," she said not really knowing if she was right or wrong. Quidditch plays were dancing in her pretty little head at the moment.

Lettie raised her hand, "Could a plimpy count, Sir?"

Issy's hand raised in the air.

"Well, if we're to use Mythical creatures, as well, there's Cerberus, the three-headed dog in Hades who helps to prevent the Dead from leaving the realm of the Undead. Much like the three-headed dog who helped to guard the Philosopher's stone?" She blinked. Were they the "same"? Never the mind that.

"And... would you consider Dementors of the realm of demon creatures? They're not exactly good. There's the violent Acromantula. And..." Her voice dipped. "It may not be a real creature in the animal sense, but I wager that many would agree that the Death Eaters of the past had demonic traits..."

Plymouth snorted and threw a hand up. "A Plymmy isn't a water demon, silly! I'm quite nice, actually, " GRIN. BEAM. "How about a mermaid though? Mum says they're kind of crazy."

Raising her hand, Anna said, "There's Kappas, sir," she said. She knew that they lived in water and looked sort of like a monkey with scales. She made a slight face, trying to place what the weird little creature would look like if she saw it in person. Hopefully she never would, though. For Merlin's sake, they grabbed people wading in their ponds and strangled them to death! Eep.

William put his hand up. "Loch Ness Monster?" He guessed, he had no clue, mythology wasn't his strong suit.

Copernicus raised his hand. "Professor, I believe there are some wild Muggle myths regarding kelpies."

Abby finds a seat and raises her hand. "Does a Grindylow apply?"

Herminny raised her hand and said, "One example a water demon would be the hippocampus".

Alice raised her hand, "How about Backahasten means brook horse and Bunyips, professor?" she paused, "And mermaids in real world.." she added, not sure of her answers though.

Celandine raised her hand, "Well, Kappa and they are NOT fun but pretty easy to deal with, does a Hinkypunk count with the bog luring thing? "And in mythology there is the Lorelei, the Kelpie and the Each Uisge which is also known as the waterhorse." Celandine suggested.

Scowling at the boy next to her, "It's called a plimpy." Her lips were tight together now, "Close enough to a demon, they creep me out." Snorting, Lettie crossed her arms over her chest, looking like she was about to have a temper tantrum.

Listening to the other answers the students were handing out, Issy's cheeks flushed a deep, patchy red. Oh. OH. He hadn't simply said demons, had he? And here she'd thought she'd done so well, so proud of herself.

He'd asked specifically for water demons.

Oh how embarassing.

Raising a redeeming hand, she dipped her head low and peeked up shyly.

"Uhm. Would... well. The ancient Egyptians believed the enemy of Ra to be Apep. A water snake-demon."

Celandine raised her hand again, trying her best to ignoreeeeeeeeeeee Plymouth and Lettie.

"There are also Morgens, also known as Mari-Morgans. A nixie, also known as Näkki or a Neck among a bunch of other things, Yannig, Amphiteres, Dracae, Brag, Bledmall, Bruckee, Selkies and Suileach. A whole bunch more than that too."

"Thank you Miss Riddle. Kappa is correct, one point for Slytherin."

"I'm afraid not Lettie. Although they live in the water they are not considered dangerous."

"Well Cerberus is a three headed dog that guards river banks but I would not consider it a water demon. And your other answers although good are not what we are studying today."

"That's debatable Mr Morgan. You are correct Merpeople can be quite frightening. I'll give you a point for that."

"Correct Anna. Kappa's are water demons."

"Thank you William. Yes the Loch Ness Monster is a mythical creature. One point for you."

"Point for you Mr Kettleburn."

"Excellent Abby. A point for you also."

"Yes there is the Hippocampus. One point."

"All excellent answers. One point."

"Very good Miss Toussaint. Take one point as well."

"Come on there are many more. Give me some more names."

Lawson gave the girl a quick smile when she picked up on her mistake. "Yes excellent. Take a point."

"Thank you again Miss Toussaint. Have another point."

Lettie raised her hand again, "Since someone mentioned Nessie, what about Champ? I believe that muggles think that it is the same creature as in Loch Ness. And maybe even the same beast that travels across to dwell in each body of water when seasons change."

Abby raises her hand again. "There are sea serpents."

Tino, his nose still crusty with blood from his recent mishap with a Slytherin broomstick, raised his hand. "What about krakens, sir? They're like--RAHGHGHG out of the deep sea and they grab the pirate ships--" he pretended to choke himself, "--and they DRAG them down into the depths and eat the brains of all inhabitants! They've got these long squidy arms, or they might be serpents, I'm not sure, but either way they're scary."

Anna raised her hand to list the only other creatures she could come up with. Hopefully some of these would be correct. "There's legendary creatures, such as Aloja, Amarum, Asrai, Bagiennik, Berehynia, and Danava," she said. She'd read of these, but she really didn't know much about them. Well, other than the fact that they lived in water, that is.

Copernicus raised his hand again, but as always, he was in awe of The Toussaint brain once again. She was so clever. "Professor, I also believe that several other water demons are the Jasconius, the Muidris, and the Murrisk."

Beaming, now that the Professor had smiled and she had redeemed herself, Issy sat up straighter. More people were tossing out ideas, so she decided she might as well, too. A good try couldn't hurt, after all.

"Well, Muggles always feared giant squids and they are confirmed to exist. They might not be considered a demon, but at one time, they were. We ought not forget the Kraken, either, has anyone mentioned it? Uhm... Did anyone say anything about the lake monster Ogopogo?"

Now she felt better.
