Refraining from moving his eyes away from the chain he stated "I'm not exactly sure. I also think that along with wetting the chain, when the sun dries something that is wet, that is when it starts to transform into something of rust." He flicked his wand and stopped the water from pouring out of its tip. He tilted his wand quickly at another angle towards the chain, avoiding William's spell and the weather around him, he whispered "Incendio." In Cordova's mind, having the chain wet and being burned would weaken it drastically and hopefully any dismal spell could surely cut through it. "Let's keep going like this and see what happens."

Trying hard not to growl as he watched the chain being wet and burned at the same time he lowered his wand and shook his head. "Okay, I'm going to try something; keep doing the Incendio spell." he said "I'm going to try Reducto. If anything nothing will happen but hopefully something would." he explained as he glowered at the offending chain around their wrists. "Reducto!" he said calmly, pointing his wand at the chain. the spell shot out, hitting the slightly reddened chain and he watched as one wrist restraint fell off. "Well that's something." he said shrugging as his own restraint was still in place.

Pepe raised a disillusioned eyebrow at Lawson's being handcuffed to one of the students. Of course the eyebrow raising was accompanied by a constriction in his throat as he struggled to swallow back the fit of laughter which threatened to spurt forth from his lips. He could definitely see how Kazimeriz could misinterpret Lawson's intentions, but personally, Bontecou was thoroughly amused with the lessons, only wishing he could have been here for the beginning.

"Good work," she said, nodding her head in approval. "Banishing the links would be a good idea. Go ahead, try it and let's see what happens." Once again, Anna grew quiet and still as she waited for Karma to try her luck at the links. As soon as Karma casted, though, a link flew away from the chain and into the wall next to them. Anna giggled at that turn of events, then raised her wand towards the fallen chain.

"Confringo!" she called out. The link suddenly exploded, making a semi-loud sound as it did. "Well, we got rid of that one. Maybe I can get rid of a few more that way, too." She turned her wand towards the chain links and with a swish and a flick said, "Confringo!" Kaboom! Kaboom! Kaboom! Just like that, three of the links exploded, making nearly the same sound the first link had. "Whoa...what a charm," Anna said, lightly laughing. "Okay, I think he's calling time soon, so maybe one more from each of should be good...I hope. Any ideas?"

"Yes, they change their minds a lot. Make you think they like only you and then ignore you for the fascinating destructo-boy with no personal space boundaries," Copernicus sent short violent shield charms at the swirls of wind blowing snow under Raiden's shield.

"Do you get the feeling we'll never be dry again?"

Karma giggled slightly as she watched Anna make that link disappear. Well, can't be smart all the time. Okay. Now, what would she do this time around? Hmm. Maybe trying Glisseo again might get the rest of the chain off of her.

She pointed her wand at the base of where it was wrapped onto her, and decided that if it didn't fall off now, she would use that charm. "Confringo!" she said, and two links melted away. "Dang itttt. I'm still stuck." And it also sounded like Lawson was wanting to wrap up class. Nooo! They hadn't gotten to the handcuffs yet.

QUICK think. Okay. With more force this time, she pointed her wand at the chain around her wrist, and said "Glisseo!" Suddenly, she watched the chain slide from off of her wrist. That thing was a little heavy. Oh sweet freedom. But yay! "Okay, if I can do it, then I know you can for sure."

When two more links melted away, Anna felt her hand slide free of a few more inches of wrapped chain. Karma's spell hadn't necessarily gotten them completely free, but at least they were getting there. "Hey, at least that's one step in the right direction," she commented. She could tell that Karma was still thinking hard about a way they could break free, though. She glanced back down at the chain, then let her eyes flicker back and forth between it and Karma. With Glisseo, the chain slid all the way off their wrists, and Anna smiled as she shook her nearly numb hand around and around.

"Good job, Karma! Okay, okay. Now for the handcuffs, right? We've done the rope and the chain...so, yeah, handcuffs," she said, reaching down to pick up the pair they'd retrieved earlier. She popped both sides of the handcuffs open, then clicked the loops back in place around both their wrists. "Alright, all locked up. I'm going to go for the most obvious spell first." With her wand aimed directly at the handcuffs, she swished and flicked and said, "Alohomora!" The handcuffs shook and actually popped open, but for some reason they clicked right back into place, locking the two girls together again. "Well, that was odd..."

William took a breather and looked down as a small stream of water seemed to be making its way towards the corner. He didn't realize they were making a huge mess but he was glad no one was around their or else that'd be awkward. Turning back to his task at hand, his still chained wrist he growled menacingly at it before exuberantly waving his wand and saying "Aquamentilinitini!" in a slightly high pitched voice. In his anger and frustration he had completely said the wrong spell and instead of what he wanted to happen - a Confringo spell - he had mistakenly said the water charm, but completely wrong. Water burst forth from his wand, shooting in all directions as it completely missed its target. William stood, the chain still around his wrist soaking wet and shivering.

Looking down he said "sorry" in a small voice to Cordova and blushed furiously.

Wheee. Karma might as well have done a happy dance right there. Maybe she shouldn't have been sucking on a sugar quill while taking notes... Hmm. Reminder for next time with class. When the chain slid off of Anna as well, she grinned. "Well, that worked better than what I thought."

Now it was time for the handcuffs. She watched Anna pick them up and made sure they locked around them. The fit a bit loose around both of their wrists, but she bet that there was no sliding out of these handcuffs. Trying the most obvious spell would work, but...

"Uhm, do they seem to be getting," Karma started, as her end of the cuff seemed to tighten. "Tighter? And a little bit warmer, as well?" She looked very confused for a second, and had mastered that look since she was blonde. Hmph. She must have been imagining it, surely there wasn't anything going on around here. Well, Lawson was in a mood today, so he might have done something. Nahh. "Alright. Let's try something else. Maybe Dissendium might work, because it normally can open things up like the witch statue that used to be linked to Honeydukes."

She shrugged her shoulders, and decided to try it. "Dissendium!" They opened up slightly again, but immediately shut. She thought about yanking her wrist away, but if it shut again, she would have pulled Anna. And then, they seemed to get tighter once more. "Well darn it." She put her free hand up to her mouth with her wand still there, trying to think. Oooh, there was one she had been taught in Germany. Maybe that one would work. "Okay, let's try this. Solvo!" Darn it! They had opened once more, then shut. Now she knew she wasn't imagining things. The once loose cuff fastened herself closer to her wrist, and she looked up at Anna with a puzzled look on her face.

Diane stood for the most part observing other students, playing with the ropes and trying waving her wand over the bindings by herself. Honestly, she did not try to partner, because she was way behind and she couldnt think of any spell that she did know to use. And now it was raining and snowing and storming over her. The only spells she knew was-- oh, yes.

She summoned a knife for the ropes, and a coat for the cold, and stole sombody else's umbrella for the snow, giving back only a smile.

Anna glared at the handcuffs, almost as if she was daring them to open and close themselves once again. Apparently, though, her glaring didn't work too well, as the handcuffs proceeded to do the exact same thing---twice---for Karma. Stupid handcuffs. "Ooookay. Well, apparently neither of those will work. Hey, the next time it opens like that, see if you can jerk your hand away in time," Anna suggested. "Let's just try not to get our skin pinched inside of them." Yikes. That would do some serious damage on the skin. "Tighter? I'm not sure. Why? Is your side getting tighter?" she asked.

While she waited on Karma to answer, she racked her brain for any spell that might be useful. They'd used just about all of the obvious ones. Unless..."What about engorgio? We could cast it and see if we can get the handcuffs to increase their size. It'd be really easy to get out of them then," she suggested. She raised her wand and aimed it towards the handcuffs. Swish...flick..."Engorgio!" The loops on the handcuffs did swell in size, although they didn't swell enough for the two girls to slide their hands out. Well...at least they weren't so tight anymore.

Marcus dragged Abby around the room as he watched the rest of the students continue to try and release themselves. "Okay I think we will finish it up for the day. For those of you who are still stuck in the handcuffs, they are charmed not to open for another couple of hours yet. But there is a simple way of getting out of them, of course I am not going to tell you what it is."

He chuckled as he walked back up to the front of the classroom dragging Abby along with him. "So if you can't work out what it is, then you are stuck with your partner until the charm wears off. Homework will be on the announcement board. You may go."




ooc: I am going to leave the thread open for another 24 hours for those who are stuck in the handcuffs. Of course you and your partner can leave and be stuck together elsewhere in the school. I will post on your notice boards when the charm has worn off.

"An easy way to get out of the handcuffs," Diane mused out loud, "would that be getting the key?" She smiled a hearty smile. "Would we need to check in the professor's pockets, maybe?"

At least Anna's spell had loosened them a little bit. Maybe it hadn't been tightening on Anna's hand, but it had been on Karma's side. Hmm. This was rather weird. She was about to ask Lawson, then decided she might get reprimanded or teased or something for not being able to get out. He was her favorite, but still, he was a pain at times.

Her mind went back to Anna when she asked if her side had been getting tighter. "Yeah, it was weird. It was loose, then it fit around my wrist as if it had gotten smaller. Maybe I was imagining things." With a swish and flick, Anna decided to perform the Engorgment Charm. That did loosen it up at bit for them. As soon as Karma was about to ask another spell, she was interrupted with a voice. Oh, Lawson.

Karma listened intently to Lawson, being that she could hardly take her eyes off of him for some reason. Siiiigh. Ahem. He mentioned the handcuffs being charmed and that the homework would be posted in the announcement board. So that was -- THE HANDCUFFS WERE CHARMED?! Cue spazzing, and... now!

Are. You. Serious? She turned her head to look at Anna, slightly stunned. D'uhhh...

"So there's a way out of these things," she said, thoughtfully. "But a special way. Do you think we'll need to use one of the spells that we had talked about in class today to figure which one will work?" Time to think back to earlier in that lesson. Gah. Relashio wouldn't do much. Now it was time to think back to anything else she had learned in the past seven years. Seven years was a lot to remember. What if...

Was there a lightbulb above her head? If not, there should have been with her idea. She turned back to Anna. "Maybe Finite Incantatem can work..." she said quietly, just for Anna to hear. "It could take off all of the charms on it."

Abby rubs her wrist. Professor Lawson pulling her all around the classroom has got it hurting something fierce. A simple charm can unlock the handcuffs. Well why hasn't he done it already? Does he really like having me joined to him like this. Abby rubs her sore wrist. "Professor, how much longer are we going to be joined together? I do have classes and homework to do." Abby enjoyed a good joke as the next one, but this one is getting old.

Interesting and fascinating! Now there were the two highest compliments he'd been paid all year. (or, ever. period.)

Pleased with how impressed both the girls were with his woodpecker imitation, Tino racked his brains for more. "Oh yeah! And there was this one with some kids in weird clothes and a dog, and the kids would say 'Okay gang! Let's split up' and the dog would go SCOOOOOOBEEEEDOOOOOBEEE-DOOOOOO and he had kind of a lisp, like, he couldn't pronounce his H's or L's, but I could never figure out why the dog could talk in the first place, and then I thought maybe the dog was actually a really dumb wizard who just happened to be an animagus and he was stuck in dog shape? Some wizards have all the luck. If I was an animagus, I'd be a MOOSE. Mooses are cool. Or is it moose? I could never figure that out. Goose, geese, moose, meese? What about mongoose? Is the plural form mongooses, or mongeese? Did you ever notice how if you say a word enough times it starts to lose meaning? Try it. Moosemoosemoosemoosemoosemoosemoose moosemoose moose mooooooooooooooooose!"

"Hey, did you hear that? We're going to be stuck together for several hours!" Tino bounced in excitement, rattling the cuffs. "How will we eat dinner? Oh! I know! We can all feed each other!"

"Moosemoosemoosemoosemoose." Celandine repeated obligingly. "I like.... chocolate mousse best." She mused, "You could feed me that!"

She eyed the rattling cuffs and shook her head. "No we won't. I am pretty sure I can release us. Just gotta stop moving around so I can aim my wand properly." As it was, her left hand (being her wand hand) was attached to Tino and was swinginginginging about to the point where the best she could manage was to not let go of her wand.

Still, at least her blue aura shield had worked to keep the elements off them.

Raiden looked at Copernicus Kettleburn, then at Celandine, then at Tino, then back to Copernicus Kettleburn. Celandine was the mind-changing fickle girl, Tino was the personal space invader, and that made... Copernicus Kettleburn... the one who Celandine was supposed to like?

Did that mean that Copernicus Kettleburn was the one that Celandine had been talking about in the hallway? It was, right? She had said his name a few times, but she hadn't confirmed it was him... And now that he thought about it, Copernicus Kettleburn seemed to really, really like Celandine a lot.

"Youuuuuuu..." he trailed off. It was none of his business. He had to keep reminding himself of that. Copernicus Kettleburn made it easier on him to avoid asking about that, however, by presenting a question. "I'm personally tired of wet socks... It's worrisome to think that the end of the term will find us sitting on top of the towers or something as water fills the castle top to bottom... And if that happens, I'm sure it'll rain on us as well." He tried to smile. "It's... scary." His sneaker toes nudged at each other anxiously. It was really only a matter of time before more places in the castle flooded... and not knowing what was next or where he'd be when it happened was really a scary thing.

"Well now Abby, you should have thought of that before you decided to stick yourself to me. Work out how to get free and you can go off on your own merry way." Lawson, shot her a look and tried to keep the smirk off his face. He looked down at his watch and frowned slightly, he and Ethan were supposed to meet at the pub later.

"That defies logic, but so does the fact that areas above sea level have flooded," Copernicus shook his head and continued to destroy patches of snow and sleet that dared cross his path. ShhhhhhhPOOF. ShhhhhhPOOF.

"Have you ever heard of a spell for water resistent snuggly warm socks? I'm going to either look for one or make one up, because I'm freezing, and everything is better if your feet are just warm. In my opinion. If I find it, I'll share it with you."

Abby thinks hard about what Professor Lawson has said. It's a simple spell, just a simple spell. That shouldn't be that hard to figure out. If Professor Lawson put a spell on the handcuffs to prevent us from being able to open them, then I need a charm that will end the previous charm. Abby thinks for a moment, and it hits her. Of course, finite incantatem, it ends a currently operating spell. Abby takes out her wand and performs a silent finite incatatem charm on her part of the handcuffs. The cuff opens up. Since the spell has been broken, I should be able to take the handcuffs on and off with no trouble. I think it's time I play a little prank on Professor Lawson. While Professor Lawson is busy with the other students, Abby snaps the handcuff back on her wrist. I wonder what Professor Lawson will do when his simple spell doesn't open the handcuff.

As Marcus stood watching the kids progression with the cuffs, he heard the distinct click of his own cuff and he smirked a little as he felt the cuff close up once again. "Nice try Abby, but I already thought of that spell and overrode it." He turned towards the sixth year and smiled. "Magic is not necessarily the answer to every solution. Of course it helps in many ways..."

He held up their hands again and looked at the cuffs, he had done a fine job on them he must admit. "Perhaps next time you will think twice before you go and do something rash." He looked down at the girl and chuckled. "Looks like you're stuck with me...for a few hours at least."

Abby tries hard not to stomp her foot on Professor Lawson's nearest foot. "Well if magic doesn't solve this problem, would you by chance have a hair pin on you? Mine are all under water at the moment. I would imagine in a few hours I can learn how to pick a lock." Well things could be worse. Professor Lawson is at least nice to look at. I wonder what he's got planned for this afternoon. "You know you could make this easy on yourself and just hand me the key." Abby flashes her sweetest little smile in the professor's direction.

"Maybe they were tighter around me, but I was just so focused on them constantly opening and closing that I didn't notice. I bet they were, though. I mean, why would they be tightern on your side, but not mine?" she asked, not really expecting an answer, for she knew Karma really didn't have one either. "You may not have been imagining things. Don't forget these are charmed handcuffs. I bet they're capable of anything. I definitely wouldn't put much past them, that is..."

That was when Professor Lawson spoke up and ended class...but not before anouncing to them that they were pretty stuck in the handcuffs until the charm wore off. Great. Lovely. Spectacular. At least it was Anna's left hand locked around the cuff's, though. It wouldn't due for her right hand to be locked away. "Oops. Well, I guess you're sort of stuck to me, Karma. It's a good thing we get along," she said, with a joking laugh. "Don't panic, though. We'll be okay. We just need to...to...find out which charm he was talking about and cast it. If we end up not figuring it out, the charm will always wear off."

"Finite Incantatem sounds good. Maybe that would end the charm...oh, but wait. What if we cast it, and it ends all the spells in here? Would Professor Lawson get upset with us for ending his game so early?" Anna asked, a worried expression on her face. She glanced around the room nervously, and her eyes fell on Cela, who was standing nearby. "Cela, do you think Finite Incantatem would end the spell on everyone's handcuffs? We don't want to get into trouble..."

Stop moving around would mean Cela would have a chance to cast. Nope. Moving around was definitely in his best interest. "Choc-oh-late mousse is fluffly and creamy," Tino informed her, as he jiggled his hands and hopped a little in place, as if he were trying to keep warm. "What spell do you want? Jellies?" Quickly Tino tried to think of a spell that might prevent it from being successful. He supposed he could turn all their hands to rocks.
