| | DADA Lesson 2
Professor Lawson moved around the room wearily making sure that everything was in order for the class. He was about as prepared for this class as he was going to be seeing how he had just spent most of his time in the Hospital Wing.
He perched himself on the end of his desk and flicked his wand towards the door and it flung open with a bang. "Welcome to your second lesson in DADA. Please come in, find yourselves a seat and take out your text books, parchment and quills." |

Oh, what the--a sound clacking warned her of a lock being fixed in place and looking at her hand which she was holding her wand in, Daphne finally became aware that to her wrist was a handcuff; and to that handcuff was an arm attached which in turn belonged to... "Tino," she growled softly, glaring heatedly at the delusional Ravenclaw. "You...You..." Her insult was interrupted by Celandine's wandwork and once more she stared up in awe.
So talented. It kind of hurt.
"I'd mind," replied Daphne deadpan, raising her brows at Tino. "Didn't you have a partner? You could have cuffed yourself to Professor Lawson."
That would have been amusing. Quote:

Tino had never been in such close proximity to the opposite sex, much less two. What a great idea of Lawson's this was! He would have to go thank his professor later for the opportunity to bond closer with Daphne and Cela. For some reason, most girls always seemed to disappear when he was around.
Tino swung his arms back and forth and sang, "La, la! Friends forever! I'll be yours and you'll be mine! La, la, skip to my lou!" Oh, if only there was a way to make this last forever.
Hmmm. Tino looked down at the bonds on his wrists. "Is Professor Lawson anyone's best friend?" Celandine asked in a concerned voice. Everyone needed at least one. Or more if possible. Like Cela who had .... too many probably.
"Right. Jelly fingers..." Celandine blinked and tried to... well she couldn't cast anything with her hand swinging around like it was. "I... Tino! I can't cast!" At least they were dry and sheltered. She kept a tight grip on her wand so that Tino's arm swinginging wouldn't dislodge it from her hand.
Teehee.
It felt so weird, Celandine ended up giggling to herself over it.

The message clearly didn't embed itself deep enough into Tino's cranium as he breached the distance set between them, not that the handcuffs provided much. "Don't flatter me," advised Daphne. Nodding, he then said "Protego!" as he flicked his wand towards the now burning fire. A shield protected the flames now and he looked up shrugging. "If we can't keep dry we can at least keep somewhat cool." He explained gravely as he stood back up.
He looked back at him, shocked now. "I don't want you getting hurt as well. I could try to project the shield to go around both of us, thus keeping us both protected but I'm not sure if that'll work." he said in a slightly apologetic voice. He nodded at Cordova though, waiting until he counted to three before muttering the shield charm again with force in his voice, "Protego!" the shield burst to life, covering him and blocking half the chain from hitting cordova. "Best I can do." He said, secretly wishing his mother was here with a hot cup of cocoa and a bowl of chicken soup. "Don't worry about me," he added focusing on the stoned chain. "I'm going to attempt to perform the spell downward so that if anything goes flying off it should rightfully go down and not towards either of us."
Unfortunately it was apparent that William was extremely cold. He had conjured a weak fire that couldn't really stay lit because of the climate that we were dealing with. "You should get some useless pieces of parchment, ball them up, put them in trash can, and then light them on fire. A bigger and stronger fire to keep you warm, and also you had the right idea about setting a protective jinx on your fire so it doesn't go out...easily."
"One, two three," he thought in his mind and whispered "Confringo," downward on a piece of the stone. It chipped barely still leaving the two partners attached. "Sorry I forgot to count outloud. I figured I wouldn't really try to use the spell or make it too strong. It's not worth it," he said smiling and stayed seated. "I'm not sure exactlty how to get this," he admitted looking around at the falling flakes and frozen puddles on the ground. Cordova was consumed by the thought of winter weather and Christmas holidays. He could no longer focus on trying to remove himself from his partner. In his mind, they're both boys, Ravenclaws, and smart which automatically made them compatable to withstand each other.
"Sorry", is all he could say at the moment. occ: I'm off but if you reply I might hop back on and continue going. I'm swamped ATM. |

Girls are apparently remarkably fickle creatures. I was thinking you'd shield the top and I could try to block the wind." "If you're sure..." Raiden sank down next to Copernicus Kettleburn, as close as he could get without feeling superbly uncomfortable. It would be easier if they were nearer to each other, so the shield wouldn't have to be even bigger, right? That was how it worked.
Fickle... he knew that word. What did it mean, what did it mean. He rubbed his forehead, which was cold now from sleety snowy ick. Work, brain. Work. Call up definitions.
"That means they change their mind a lot, right?" he asked. "Well... Daphne Hopton changes her mind sometimes, but Cela seems to know what she's thinking... Most of the time..."
He nodded as to the arrangement of shield charms. He could cast the upper one, sure. He'd done it earlier. Pointing his wand up, he murmured "Protego" under his breath; the shield sprang up again over their heads, blocking the sleet that was falling straight down on them. Hooray for that at the very least... |

"Daphne, dear, you're on my foot," Tino pointed out merrily. He waved his wand slightly in his hand, tempted, oh so tempted. "Isn't tune that fun show on the telly? Toons, though, I think it is. I like toons. I watched alot of toons when I was growing up. My favorite one was this woodpecker--and he laughed like THIS: AHEHEHEH haa haaa! AHEHEHEH haaa haaa! He eh eh eh eh!!"
Whilst distracting the girls with his entertaining impressions, Tino swished his wand just barely. Tiny tendrils of smoke rose up from his and Daphne's cuffs. He swung his arms again to dispel the smoke, then grinned at Daphne. . . a very pleased grin.

Celandine just let her arm swing and kept a grip on her wand. The plan was to cast jellyfingers again when Tino stopped being a swinger and swinginging. "I've never watched a television. Just like... the things we've seen in classes." She pointed out, listening to the heeehaaaawhut? in fascination.
She beamed at Daphne. "Isn't Tino interesting?"

Reluctantly, Daphne removed her foot but not before pondering over the fact that he probably wouldn't notice if she purposely tried to squish his toes into Tino Mud. "Sorry," she apologized feigning guilt with a small smile.
"Oh. Oh. Merlin, stop--do you mind? You're attracting attention to us--could you NOT--Constantino," interjected Daphne, or attempted to as Tino began his crazed imitation of some kind of bird attempting to attract attention of an unwilling female. Once he was done, Daphne stared at him in disbelief, shaking her head at him slowly. "That was just..." Quote:
She beamed at Daphne. "Isn't Tino interesting?"
Miss Hopton tried not to scoff derisively, as would be her usual reaction. Not that she could, since Tino's freakish grin was glaring down at her. "He's just... fascinating. Absolutely fascinating."

She lifted her hand, still holding her wand, and since they were all three close together.... she cast the spell around all of them. Tight circular motion, "Impiriano!" Cela cast the blue aura shield spell around herself, Daphne and Tino and grinned in delight when it proved to protect them from the weather. She shot a slightly triumphant look at Professor Lawson before turning her attention back to her.... er.... 'team'. "Well now Abby, that would have to be debatable" he drawled as she held up their cuffed hands. "I have charmed those handcuffs so they won't open for at least another few hours at least. He was starting to wonder if this didn't work what they'd do next; the only spells he could think of that could work possibly was one that would definitely get him into trouble. Points taken off and a detention with a howler sent to his mother. No way. He had heard of a few safer spells they could try but he trusted Cordova to do the right one. After all he had promised in his own way not to hurt either of them.
William could see that Cordova wasn't fully concentrating anymore, not since Mr. Meanie-pant's winter storm started in the classroom. Probably reminded him of Christmastime he figured, feeling a small twinge of pain at the thought of home with it's fruit cake and homemade turkey stew. Feeling his stomache rumble at the thought he cleared his mind with a small shake of his head and looked down at his pathetic fire as it dissapated. Shrugging he looked up and looked around, finally noticing there were no tables. Leave it to Lawson to take thier only source of shielding. Throwing a glance in the mans direction he turned back to Cordova again and smiled.
Lifting his wand above him he did the wand movements and muttered "Protego." watching as a shield burst out covering both boys. Nodding he said, "There, that might help you concentrate a bit more." He shuffled his wrist against the chain again, feeling the ugliness of it and hoping they'd get out of it soon enough.

"Figured we could use a different opponent." She scowled at the handcuffs and brought a glass jar out of her bag. A moment later their was a little flame on the inside of it; the bluebell flames were always useful for something, and in this case, it would be to keep the students' hands warm. "Hopefully, our pair won't be defective." She looked at the tiny opening for where a small key could be inserted. "Try to cast a charm in there, that might work." Lettie sat down in order to stop the wind from pushing her around, and in order to enjoy the little warmth that she had produced in the jar that was set down. "Maybe the handcuffs can melt as well? Think that would work? At least on the chains anyway." Daniel looked at what Lettie had brought up, warmth at last. He sat down with her to prevent from toppling down. He then looked at the cuff that binds them. And then she brought up the chain melting part. "I think if we use that we will be burned before the chain melts off." he said looking at the cuffs. He then pointed his wand on the keyhole and said, Alohomora but nothing happened. Quote:

Grinning lightly, Lettie looked to the handcuffs again and scowled, wanting to blow the set apart with one good shot. But that would result in a couple of injured people for sure. Daniel looked at Lettie again as she was taking her cloak from her bag and casting an Impervius charm on it to shelter them. "Nice job." he exclaimed and then turned his sight to the cuffs.
He pointed his wand at it and muttered, Relashio but nothing happened. "Aha!" he exclaimed. "Let me try this." he said.
Daniel pointed his wand on the chains of the cuffs and said Evanesco and they were gone.

Uhoh, I'll be completely soaked if I don't do something soon, she thought, drawing her wand and pointing it to herself. "Impervious!" she whispered, and suddenly she stopped feeling the drps splashing across her body. Not that Natka didn't like the rain - really, she had no problem with it, but only when she was prepared. not during a lesson in the classroom with absolutely nothing waterproof on, and no umbrella at hand. Laura smiled. "If you don't mind!" she cried. Grabbing Natkas wrists, Laura went to knot them together and then decided against it and deftly tyed one of Natkas wrists to her own. "There!" she said. "No we can work together!" Uh-oh...was Lauras thought, as the rain dripping down above her changed to sleet and snow, and the desks vanished around her. Thinking quickly, the young Ravenclaw summoned an umbrella, and struggled to open it, using only one hand. Luckily the Impervious charm had kept her dry, but it was annoying having so many snowflakes wizzing around her, and past her face. She couldn't keep her concentration.
Pointing her wand at the now open umbrella, Laura shouted "Wingardium Leviosa!" and if raised above bother her and Natka, protecting them from the blizzard. "Now," she smiled, raising her wrist. "What shall we do about this?"

"Cyrus Paul Andrus! What on earth are you doing." Vanessa flailed about, throwing her arms, before remembering that her hand was now connected to Cy's. Better not dislocate the boys shoulder or anything.
Vannie sighed, trying to calm herself down. "You better have a good reason for doing this Cyrus....you could have at least asked me!" She shook her head, before smiling at him. It couldn't be that bad. "You better know how to get out of these." She sighed, looking at the hand cuffs. Cy looked up to the Prefect in an evil fashion. “Ohh, sorry mate I didn’t know you didn’t want me too. I thought I was doing you a favor?” The Aussie laughed and gave her a light punch on the shoulder.
Bahaha. He was going to make this class hell for her.
“I don’t ask. I just DO things, mate. You should know this by now.” He winked at her with a grin. They didn’t exactly know each other that well, but Cy had already developed at bad reputation.
At her question, the first year looked up to Vanessa with a nonchalant expression. “I have no bloody idea.” He stated, in response to how to get the handcuffs off. WAIT! He knew a spell.
Pulling out his kelpie-cored wand, he pointed it at Vanessa. “Don’t worry, I’ve got his unda’ control.” He then went on to point it at the hand cuffs. He’d learned this spell not too long ago, and so far it had proved very useful throughout the castle. “ALOHOMORA!” He said unnecessarily loud. The handcuff shuddered slightly but by no means unlocked.
“Oh well.” He said with a Cy, “Looks like you are stuck with me forevah.” His wry smile was there, very much there.

He then pointed his wand on the keyhole and said, Alohomora but nothing happened.
Lettie scowled a little bit and looked up to Daniel, "What if you made my hand disappear?" 'Then I would have had to kick your butt!' She tightened her lips and glanced to the supplies on the table again. Getting up Leticia grabbed another pair of handcuffs and snapped them into place again.
Opening the lid of the jar with her bluebell flames, Lettie set the handcuff chains over the tiny flame that didn't even reach the lid rim. "I'll wrap some cloth around our hands so that it doesn't get too hot, okay." She directed her wand to the flames, which grew and started to make contact with the handcuff chains. If it did work, the chain would weaken and make the chain easy to break. "Like I said...I like experimenting...heat weakens metal from what I understand. So maybe it will work."

"Expulso...right. Expulso sounds good to me," she agreed. She watched while Karma performed the spell, and luckily enough, two chains melted off and fell to the floor. "Okay, okay, that was definitely a good idea. Let me try now..." Anna raised her wand and directed it towards the linked chains. With a nice swish and flick motion, she said, "Expulso!" Two additional chains dropped to the floor, although, the two still had a good many more chains to go.
...and then, she felt water.
Okay, so it was raining in here now? More water? Are you freaking serious? Anna sort of more or less laughed it off, though. At least the professor was giving them a challenging...and also fun...lesson. Before she could really think about the situation too much longer, though, Karma had casted Impervius on both of them, so at least they were now waterproof! "Oh, thanks, Karma. Good thinking!" she said, giving the girl a smile and a nod.
"Okay, so let's continue. What about Glisseo?" Maybe we can cast it on a link or two and slide our hands out a bit? Here, let me try...," she suggested. With her wand aimed directly at two of the top links, Anna called out, "Glisseo!" She watched as the links smoothed out just enough to where she may be able to slide her hand out a bit. "See if you can get out of it a bit, Karma." Anna moved just a little, and she watched as her hand inched a tiny bit away from the chain. Well, at least she'd managed to get it off a part of her hand...

Victoria looked round, she didn't have a partner to work with but she was itching to try out some spells.

"Well that;s all very inter-"he felt the cuff on his wrist but before he could do anything else there was a loud click.
"Well now Abby, that would have to be debatable" he drawled as she held up their cuffed hands. "I have charmed those handcuffs so they won't open for at least another few hours at least. So you are now stuck with me and I have a few jobs in the lake that needs to be done. So guess what Abby?" He paused for a moment giving her a smirk. "Looks like you're coming with me. I hope you're a good swimmer." Abby can't help but smirk. She was right about Professor Lawson charming the handcuffs. "The lake? Sounds like fun. What kind of jobs do you have to do? Does it involve grindylows?" Abby has been dying to have a chance to swim in the lake. Now she going to get to go swimming with Professor Lawson. How lucky can you get. |

| Typo Mistress Time had passed and nothing had changed concerning the objective of detaching his partner off his wrist. Ideas crossed his mind often but none of them seemed possible as he continued to examine the conditions of the room. It felt like Christmas time and more than anything he wanted to be home, be with his parents roasting next to the fire. Besides the fact that it was snowing heavily on his head, there were also piles of snow surrounding their feet, personal possessions, and work space.
“Thanks,” he looked over at his partner who had performed a protection spell to stop the icy wind and snow from splattering on his face. “Well,” he started and looked down at their wrist which was still joined together. He pulled out his wand and stood looking around the room at what some people had decided to do. “Brilliant,” he mumbled under his voice as he watched the Ravenclaw girl cast a bubble around herself and her partner. He could have done the same because he knew the spell very well, but decided to not be a copy cat and create his own way of handling his problems. He taped the chain firmly and performed the counter course of turning his chain to stone. Apparently altering the material of the chain wouldn’t make that much of a difference, although it was decent attempt.
“Let’s try to weaken it,” he shouted over his peers and the loud snow that tumbled around them. “Chains become weaker when they rust. So we’ll need to find a way to make them rust and once it has eroded enough, and then we could possibly try blowing it apart.” Cordova thought over it all again and then nodded to confirm what he had just stated. “Concerning a Grindylow, the same task applies, you’ll have to use whatever way to weaken the enemy and when its grip begins to loosen, that is when you go for the punch. Do you know any water conjuring spells,” he questioned seeing just how smart his partner really was. |

Well, at least she'd managed to get it off a part of her hand... Karma smiled as Anna thanked her for her quick usage of the spell to help keep Anna cry. "Anytime, and you're welcome."
She watched her partner eye her work and was happy that the Head Girl liked it. Nodding her head once, she watched her also perform the same spell. Yay, it was working. But now... wait, what was she doing? Oooh, Glisseo. Karma hadn't thought of that one. "Ooooh, lemme try." Now pointing her wand at the chain, she said the same incantation. Swish and flick. "Glisseo!" Oooh. The chain started to move a little bit, but not all the way. "Dang. Maybe we have to banish them one by one, without banishing a body part." She blinked. What would happen if they DID banish a body part?
So, aiming it down at the chain, she quietly performed the banishing charm. Except, she said it with too much force, and sent it into the wall next to them. "WOAH. Haaa, guess Lawson will have to deal." She glanced over her shoulder to see Lawson handcuffed to Abby. Ohhh how interesting. She tired the charm one more time with less force. The link clanked to the floor and bounced a bit. "Okay, let's try that."

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. William beamed to himself as his shield held up, thus stopping most of the sleet and icy wind to hit them. At least he had done one thing right so far. Not thinking bad or being annoyed with himself he looked around at the others, not noticing that Cordova had changed their chain back to a chain. He felt it cold against his skin however and frowned, seriously wanting the piece of metal off his skin.
It was then Cordova mentioned rust and it hit him. "Aquamenti. If used powerfully a jet of water will come out of our wands and hopefully rust the metal. Then we can use Relashio again and hopefully it'll be gone." He explained, his blue eyes lighting up at the prospect. Sure, it sounded easier said than done but he didn't know of any other water spell, besides the drought charm and that wouldn't really help them. "We could also use an air charm, blast the chain with warm air, which would put condensation onto the chain due to the freezing atmosphere and could rust...right?" He added not really trusting that one either.

"Ideally an air charm could work too if it actually rusted it. However, I'm not sure that wind itself makes something rust. Rust is kind of like mold and would need a liquidated substance or something that is solid to make it erode and rot away." Without turning his attention away from their conversation, he pointed his wand at the chain and said "Aquamenti. I think this will work faster if we both do it and both put pressure on it." He watched the jet of water shoot from the tip of his wand and collide with chain. |

| Technically technical all the time Bookaholic Under the influence of a disillusionment charm, Headmaster Bontecou stealthily entered the DADA classroom though an unseen secret door. It wasn't a graceful entrance, but it wasn't like anyone was looking at him. In addition to the disillusionment charm, he'd also cast a spell that would divert a person's attention from his general area so that they wouldn't even notice the hole at the base of the classroom wall which he crawled through. Once he was out, he quietly closed the door as he sat on the floor, knees pulled up to his chest, arms around his legs to hold them in place, and glasses absolutely filthy with cobwebs sticking all over his head and shoulders.

William did the same muttering "Aquamenti" while pointing the tip of his wand near the chain. A jet of water shot out, thus hitting the chain. "How long do you think we'll need to do this?" He asked, continuing to watch as the water poured out of the wands. After a few minutes it looked like little speckles of rust was appearing at the wrapped part of the chain on William's end and he sighed with relief as it appeared to be working.

Marcus refrained from rolling his eyes at the girl, he had been joking about the lake. Like he would take a student into the lake while they were handcuffed to him. "Well that would be telling now wouldn't it" he answered as he made to move amongst the students and had to stop. He turned and looked at Miss Wright, with a raised eyebrow, "You are going to have to come with" he said holding up their cuffed hands.
"Okay I am going to give everyone just a little bit longer to get out of their binds before I assign homework." There was a simple way of getting out of the cuffs but no-one seemed to have worked it out yet. ooc: I'll be back in a few hours to wrap up the class. Just keep practicing working on a way out of your binds.
