| | DADA Lesson 2
Professor Lawson moved around the room wearily making sure that everything was in order for the class. He was about as prepared for this class as he was going to be seeing how he had just spent most of his time in the Hospital Wing.
He perched himself on the end of his desk and flicked his wand towards the door and it flung open with a bang. "Welcome to your second lesson in DADA. Please come in, find yourselves a seat and take out your text books, parchment and quills." |

Cela certainly did. A little too much probably. She eyed the rope between Copernicus and Raiden for a moment before turning back to Daphne. Quote:

"Would the jelly fingers jinx extend all the way to our last knuckles?" quipped Daphne squeakily, wiggling her fingers in thought. "Either way, let's try the Engorgio charm first and see if it works."
Taking careful aim at the handcuffs, Daphne couldn't help but overhear their conversation. "I think wooing Raiden isn't going to work out for you, Kettleburn."
"Engorgio!" chanted Daphne articulately, not willing to make an amateur mistake like incorrect enunciation. The handcuffs vibrated, shaking the chains that connected herself and Celandine. For an instant, Daphne was certain it was going to work as the handcuffs seemed to expand and return to their normal size repeatedly before something--went incredibly wrong.
Shrinking on them, the handcuffs tightened around their wrists, almost painfully before they ceased all movement. "Oh, fantastic," remarked Daphne bitterly, rubbing at the sore skin around the handcuffs with one finger. "I should have known it was booby trapped." "Ouch." Celandine eyed the cuffs in displeasure and nodded. "Booby trapped for sure." She held her wrist up and examined it thoughtfully. Quote:

But Raiden wasn't about to say so while Copernicus Kettleburn was taking the rope off his wrist.
As soon as the rope was off, Raiden took his arm back and relaxed slightly. Copernicus Kettleburn hadn't cut his hand or fingers off. The class could already be called a success, at least in his books. Raiden let out a breath that he'd been holding just as Daphne Hopton piped up again.
Who was wooing who, now?! Raiden eyed them all, slightly confused. What?
"Erm... No offence to Copernicus Kettleburn," he said, frowning and scratching the back of his head. "But... I don't think he's my type." At least, if he had a type, he was sure Copernicus Kettleburn wouldn't be it. "Uhm, do you wanna do your own rope, or should I do it? I know how to do the flipsnipperthinger so... I don't really need practise..."
Well he knew how to say it properly, he did. He just.. coudn't be bothered to remember it right now. Cela went pink and tried VERY HARD to ignore Copernicus and Raiden. This talking about types business... and... eeeeeeeeeeeeep. Quote:

Giving his wand another little flick the rain changed from water to sleet and snow and the wind began to howl and rip through the classroom with incredible speed and intensity.
Of course Lawson, was back at his desk warm, dry and comfortable in his little bubble. "Seems the elements have changed somewhat" he smirked. "Again use whatever spell you can think of to overcome this little...inconvenience." He stretched back in his chair and propped his feet up onto the table once more. Watching every move they made, to see who could handle the pressure and who couldn't. He looked at his watch, the charm on the handcuffs won't wear off for another five hours yet. Celandine looked up as the sleet started to fall, and realised with the wind, the umbrella would do nothing. She turned her head to look around for inspiration. "I have an idea." She gave Daphne a tug over to the nearest desk. Quote:
The wind and sleet picked up, blowing around them in the classroom. Ugh. Something to make it harder to see which limb was being sliced off. Awesome. "No offense to either Miss Hopton or yourself, Raiden, but I'm sort of... unavailable."
Unavailable.
Celandine couldn't help but shoot a little glance at Copernicus as she tugged Daphne over. She pointed her wand at the desk, "Engorgio!" And the desk grew just large enough for them both to crawl under and be sheltered enough to focus. No crazy spells here.
She got on her knees and crawled under, tugging Daphne with her and wincing at the tightness of the cuffs.

Ummm, sadly, the chain thing that kept the round metal things together was the only thing that grew in size, making the handcuffs heavy somehow. "Oops...let me be more accurate" she said, blushing a little. "Engorgio!" yet again, and...she waited to see if the charm had worked...
OOC: Your turn Abby looks up when Professor Lawson talks about the measure the students had used to get rid of the rain. "Terrific, I can't even get the Meteoljinx Recanto Charm to work. Well if at first you don't succed, try, try again." Abby points her wand at the ceiling and says "Meteoljinx Recanto" as loud as she can. If that doesn't work, I'm turning in my wand." She then looks at the handcuffs again. "You know Professor Lawson wasn't too keen on wearing this braclets. Do you think he could have done something with them? It's got to be that or he's invented a squib curse and used it on us." |

As for the wind, Daniel pointed again to the sky and yelled, IGLU APPARAIT a half dome igloo appeared just for wind protection andfor them to concentrate. 'Aww...darn.' Snow. Lots and lots of snow, and it was cold, and there was hail and sleet too.
Even though Lettie loved the snow, it wasn't made to be inside. "Thanks." She quickly put on the black coat that Daniel had given to her. 'Where does he get all this stuff from?' She got on her knees and crawled under, tugging Daphne with her and wincing at the tightness of the cuffs. Copernicus Kettleburn thought he was so clever.
Just when she was about to inform Kettleburn just how much she did not care about his relationship status, the wind started to blow and Daphne wrinkled her nose at a stray snowflake.
This was just really ridiculous now.
Ditching the umbrella, Daphne dropped it where they stood and trudged behind Celandine, their handcuffs kept them attached, so she moved clumsily even as she joined Celandine underneath the enlarged desk. Blinking out at the snow, Miss Hopton shuddered. "What's next? Hail?" Or...a tornado.
"Do you want to try modifying the sponge knee curse for our knuckles?" stuttered Daphne, tucking her legs underneath her body for warmth as she sat on the cold (and wet) floor. "Unless..." Tapping the handcuffs cautiously, Daphne tried to spot any other booby traps.
It wouldn't do to cut off their circulation entirely.

Herminny felt the rain suddenly become a windy sleet and snow that would have knocked her off her feet had she not crouched down and pulled Cedric with her. Her teeth were chattering as she started to think of a spell they could use to end the torture. Oh, the sheilding carm protego combined with horribilis to complately sheild us though that would take a lot of magic, mabe that was'nt the best idea. Mabe just a a sealed camping tent and jackets, yes that should work she thought, She then slowly took out her wand and conjured two jackets on herself and Cedric. She then waved her wand a little with her frosted over right arm and said, "erecto", which conjured a tent which she qickly went inside pulling Cedric behind her. She tuned to Cedric and said, "You're welcome", still scowling because of how horrible she felt this DADA lesson had been so far.

"Oh, hey... I'm going to keep the rope," Copernicus tucked his wrist, hand, and rope bracelet inside his robes so Raiden wouldn't feel the urge to start cutting things off his body. Fingers, toes, whatever... Cope wanted to keep them.
The wind and sleet picked up, blowing around them in the classroom. Ugh. Something to make it harder to see which limb was being sliced off. Awesome. "No offense to either Miss Hopton or yourself, Raiden, but I'm sort of... unavailable."
Raiden shrugged. Why was Copernicus Kettleburn keeping the rope? Surely it would... get annoying to have it tied around his wrist. But if he wanted to keep his man bracelet, Raiden wouldn't object. Wasn't like he could take it off him without letting down their shield anyway.
Speaking of their shield... the rain had turned to snow and sleet and ick, which the shield kept from falling directly on top of them, but the wind blowing helped it to still hit them. Thus, his shield charm was rendered completely useless. Raiden sighed; what were they meant to do now? He couldn't cast a shield charm big enough to cover all around them...
"Oh." Celandine had just done something rather ingenious. Maybe he and Copernicus Kettleburn should try that. He looked at said Copernicus Kettleburn and nodded at the girls, already forgetting the remarks about how he should appreciate Copernicus Kettleburn's poetry. "Any ideas? Otherwise we could give that a shot."
He flinched as a bit of sleet shot under his shield charm and hit his cheek. Cold... why did it have to be COLD. It was cold outside! Why make them cold inside?! It was like the rain. There was enough water invading everything lately...
"Well that's nice," Raiden said absently, in reference to Copernicus Kettleburn being unavailable. "You're nice, so that's not really a surprise to anyone, is it?" |

Daniel then took the rope and tied it in a special knot and bind the two of them.
He then pointed his wand on the rope and conjured, FUNIS SOLVO at that, the rope untied itself for them.

Lawson flicked his wand at the desk that Celandine and Daphne were hiding under and vanished. He then waved his wand over the rest of the desks and vanished them also. "That's taking the easy way out Miss Toussaint." He grinned and gave her a wink, "Good thinking but I want you to be able to come up with spells that are going to help you in the elements. There may be a time when you don't have anything to hide under. Think of what spells are going to help you to keep the rain, sleet, snow and wind from affecting you. That goes for all of you." ooc: Okay people lets remember that you are all students and cannot perform extraordinary magic. Please try and keep it as canon as possible. Lettie said and wandered cautiously to get a pair of handcuffs. The rope was great and all, but they needed another sort of challenge now. "Here." Lettie said as she *click* secured the handcuffs around her right wrist, and to Daniel's left. "Figured we could use a different opponent." She scowled at the handcuffs and brought a glass jar out of her bag. A moment later their was a little flame on the inside of it; the bluebell flames were always useful for something, and in this case, it would be to keep the students' hands warm. "Hopefully, our pair won't be defective." She looked at the tiny opening for where a small key could be inserted. "Try to cast a charm in there, that might work." Lettie sat down in order to stop the wind from pushing her around, and in order to enjoy the little warmth that she had produced in the jar that was set down. "Maybe the handcuffs can melt as well? Think that would work? At least on the chains anyway."

Chris took the chains back from Dem after her try and he decided to try them on him again. The rain switched from just rain to sleet and snow. "Crap!" He said he pulled his handcuffed hand with his wand in it and pointed at himself saying. "Impervius!" The water didnt touch him. "That's better." and then he pointed his wand at the cuffs and said. "Diffindo." easily cutting through them and then reparied them to hand back to Dem.

Between these handcuffs and that spell, I was beginning to believe I was loosing my magic. I still think I may be trying something that's out of my league. I'll give it one more try." Abby raises her wand to the ceiling and concentrates. I may not be able to do it. Of course Hermione Granger wasn't able to tell the spell to Ron Weasley, so there is a possibility a seventh year could do it. I'm still not too sure. I've only read about it in The Life of Harry Potter. Abby tries to get Professor Lawson's attention. "Professor, could you come here for a minute? There a couple thinks I'd like to ask you about."

"We can use my heavy cloak and use Impervius on it so that we have a makeshift shelter. At least it will stop the snow from landing on us."
She reached over and pulled her cloak out of her backpack as well...which was packed full of supplies. Laying it over herself, the girl cast the Impervius charm and waited for some cold and wet elemental source to hit her...though none came.
Grinning lightly, Lettie looked to the handcuffs again and scowled, wanting to blow the set apart with one good shot. But that would result in a couple of injured people for sure.

There... had been a desk here, right? Raiden stared at the spot where it had been just a second ago before realising that the Professor had taken them all. Well that wasn't fair. Now they were stuck with... sleet and stuff.
"Well... we have the shield charm above us still," he said softly, scratching the back of his head again. "It blocks from above but I can't cast it big enough to protect from the sleet and stuff that's coming in from the side with the wind..." He looked at the older boy. "Do you think... if we sat near the wall, and we both cast them... we'd maybe be able to get enough coverage that it wouldn't get in? At least, not as much... Unless you know any other spells we could use."
He glanced at the older boy; his face was turning red. Raiden touched his own face; sure it was getting cold with the sleet and wind, but... well maybe Copernicus Kettleburn had poor circulation or something? He thought very seriously about asking for a moment before letting it float away. It wasn't any of his business, after all. |

It wouldn't do to cut off their circulation entirely. Tino was basking in the glory of his universal acceptance. Cela had put him in her grindylow drawing! Not Copernicus! And Plymouth had liked his drawing, too, and even reciprocated. Perhaps he'd been too hasty in judging Plymouth. The boy was obviously a genius.
After a few moments of bliss, Tino realized he was no longer basking in glory, but being drenched by rain and snow. What were they doing again? Oh, right! Getting more 'connected'. And who would he want to be more connected to than Celandine Toussaint and Daphne Hopton? After all, they were all bosom friends now. Daphne had expressed an obvious deep-seated friendship towards Tino back in the bamboo forest, and Cela, of course, was now entirely charmed by his blue glitter. Perhaps they also needed a man's protection from this weather. But which lovely lady would he choose?
Grabbing two sets of handcuffs, Tino decisively marched up the pair, and without so much as a how-do-you-do, he snapped one on each of the girls's free wrists and his own on the remaining links.
There! It was a perfect time to play 'ring the rosie'!

"I think I'll try the jelly fingers jinx first, at least it's already made to work on hands right?" Celandine answered Daphne, trying to ignore their newly uncovered state. Gee what was with Defence professors pushing Celandine to challenge herself? If her methods worked... Sigh. Celandine shot a look at Professor Lawson and her expression turned speculative. The man wasn't being effected by the weather charms, and he had a bubble of some so... hmmmmmm. Quote:

There! It was a perfect time to play 'ring the rosie'! Next thing she knew Tino had cuffed himself to both of them. Celandine blinked at the boy and then grinned, well it certainly was a challenge. She lifted her hand, still holding her wand, and since they were all three close together.... she cast the spell around all of them. Tight circular motion, "Impiriano!" Cela cast the blue aura shield spell around herself, Daphne and Tino and grinned in delight when it proved to protect them from the weather. She shot a slightly triumphant look at Professor Lawson before turning her attention back to her.... er.... 'team'.
"Hi Tino! Glad you could join the party! Okay... should we try the jellyfingers jinx? Though... I wouldn't mind being stuck to you for a little longer Tino!" Celandine laughed and prodded him with her wand. Gee she liked making new friends.

Sighing deeply and pulling his legs down off the desk he stood up from his chair and moved over to Abby. "Yes Abby, what seems to be the problem?" He placed his hands behind his back and rocked on his feet a little as he waited for Abby. ooc: Okay so which one of you are game enough to handcuff Lawson to him or herself? I am putting the dare out there. Just remember you will be stuck with him until the charm wears off.

He muttered, more to himself than to Corvoda. giving his wand a stern flick and swish he said "Relashio!" pointing the tip of his wand to the chain. The spell shot out before bouncing to the tabeletop. "Oops, okay guess that's not going to work." He said shrugging.
Stretching his shoulder he looked at the chain again frowning this time as he glanced at the rain, which suddenly turned to snow and ice. the wind began blowing, which seemed to penetrate through the charm Cordova had completed. Being so thin William stumbled, nearly tripping over his shoes as he tried to keep standing. He needed better support than what he had right then. "Okay, I can handle a litt...little snow." he stuttered standing tall. "Perhaps you should do the Congrino spell though." He added, knowing the older boy knew how to do it better than he did. "Sorry," he finally spoke softly looking around the room and wondering why Professor Lawson felt the need to change the atmosphere of the room. Cordova and William were already stuck together due to what used to be a metal chain but now transfigured into a massive block of stone. "Sorry for dismal shield, my lack of enthusiam," he rambled and continued to apologize about this entire messy situation. Cordova liked snow. Ever since he was a little boy he would always go play in the snow with his mother, making snow men and throwing snow balls. "Mum,' he said quietly and twitched at the thought of his home and how uncomfortable it would be take another student attached at the arm.
He glanced at William and nodded at the same time adding something that sound like "hmpf". Twisting his wand through his fingers, he contemplated what he should do about "their" little situation. Without realizing how much taller he was than William, he lifted both of their attached arms closer to his face, forcing his partner to stand on his toes. "Alrighty then," he lowered their arms and pulled his chair closer to sit in it. "I'm going to try the Confrngo spell. I doubt it does anything or a lot but it's better than nothing. To be on the safe side," he added glancing up at William. "I'll count again and on three you say "Protego" you know," he paused hoping what he thought wasn't going to really come out. "Just in case something is chucked off of the chain/stone," he struggled with deciding what to call it. "Better me than you, agreed?" |

The desk was gone. Completely gone and Daphne tried hiding her glare underneath her blond bangs. Darn that Lawson! What was wrong with using what was around you to your advantage? It's called being resourceful.
Right? Of course.
"Jelly fingers it is, dear!" chirped Daphne, smiling at her friend, seeing her ever so slightly frazzled. Not that Toussaints were ever frazzled. "Why don't--"
Oh, what the--a sound clacking warned her of a lock being fixed in place and looking at her hand which she was holding her wand in, Daphne finally became aware that to her wrist was a handcuff; and to that handcuff was an arm attached which in turn belonged to... "Tino," she growled softly, glaring heatedly at the delusional Ravenclaw. "You...You..." Her insult was interrupted by Celandine's wandwork and once more she stared up in awe.
So talented. It kind of hurt.
"I'd mind," replied Daphne deadpan, raising her brows at Tino. "Didn't you have a partner? You could have cuffed yourself to Professor Lawson."
That would have been amusing.

Raiden stood on his toes and looked closely at Copernicus Kettleburn. He was... stuttering a bit, and not finishing sentences, and who knew what he was talking about? Certainly not Raiden... The cold from the sleet coudn't have gotten to Copernicus Kettleburn already, could it? He wasn't going to die or anything, right?
"Are you okay?" He asked, squinting slightly and tilting his head from side to side. "Your face got really red... You must have a low tolerance for cold."
But then he seemed to be completely lucid again. He was nice, for sure, a bit odd, but nice. Raiden turned on the spot and stopped before taking his first step toward the wall. Some guy had just handcuffed himself to Celandine and Daphne Hopton. Just... walked up and stuck himself to them.
"Aah." The sound bubbled out of his throat unbidden. But... what business was it of his? They didn't look put out over it. His ears turned a bit red despite that and he moved quickly to the wall. |

"Just in case something is chucked off of the chain/stone," he struggled with deciding what to call it. "Better me than you, agreed?" William forced back the impending sigh that was threatening to escape from his mouth and nodded as he covered himself up awkwardly in his robes. The gusting wind was chilling him to the bone now and he suddenly leaned down, accidentally pulling Cordova with him.Holding his wand out he said "Incendio" and watched as a small burst of flame erupted from his wand, blowing wildly in the wind. Nodding, he then said "Protego!" as he flicked his wand towards the now burning fire. A shield protected the flames now and he looked up shrugging. "If we can't keep dry we can at least keep somewhat cool." He explained gravely as he stood back up.
He looked back at him, shocked now. "I don't want you getting hurt as well. I could try to project the shield to go around both of us, thus keeping us both protected but I'm not sure if that'll work." he said in a slightly apologetic voice. He nodded at Cordova though, waiting until he counted to three before muttering the shield charm again with force in his voice, "Protego!" the shield burst to life, covering him and blocking half the chain from hitting cordova. "Best I can do." He said, secretly wishing his mother was here with a hot cup of cocoa and a bowl of chicken soup.

"I'd mind," replied Daphne deadpan, raising her brows at Tino. "Didn't you have a partner? You could have cuffed yourself to Professor Lawson."
That would have been amusing. "Lawson isn't my best friend," Tino replied patiently, sidling up to Daphne and beaming. "I wanted you as partners! Two pretty girls. See? Now we all get to be together!" He flashed a grin at Cela and swung his arm playfully. She was just so perky! And she liked him! Tino had never been in such close proximity to the opposite sex, much less two. What a great idea of Lawson's this was! He would have to go thank his professor later for the opportunity to bond closer with Daphne and Cela. For some reason, most girls always seemed to disappear when he was around.
Tino swung his arms back and forth and sang, "La, la! Friends forever! I'll be yours and you'll be mine! La, la, skip to my lou!" Oh, if only there was a way to make this last forever.
Hmmm. Tino looked down at the bonds on his wrists.

"I'm fine," Copernicus rubbed at his cheeks, wondering just how red they'd gotten. Ugh. Sometimes being fair-skinned was a curse, letting everyone know exactly how he was feeling.
Ignoring the action on the other side of the room, Cope seated himself on the floor and pointed to the spot next to him to indicate Raiden should join him. "Don't worry about them. Girls are apparently remarkably fickle creatures. I was thinking you'd shield the top and I could try to block the wind."
