| | DADA Lesson 1
Professor Lawson had spent the last hour setting up the classroom for the first lesson. All the desks had been removed except for his and only the chairs remained. He hung some lanterns from the ceiling, placed a few suits of armor into the corners of the room. A large box sat on his desk.
He moved around the room to make sure that everything seemed to be in place before he threw open the door to allow the students arrival and walked back and leaned against the edge of his desk, his arms folded and his feet crossed at the ankles.
"Please come in, put your bags to to the side, take out only your wands and have a seat."
ooc: Please RP exactly where your character retrieves their wand. Thank you. |

A cross draw was more effective because it balanced it out... but of course Nate would never say it aloud.. people thining he was smart?? wasnt going to happen.

Lawson turned and faced the class again. "Okay before I get our volunteers to draw their wands. On which side should Cam where his hip holster if his wand hand is his right?" Cayden turned to look at the professor as he told him not to help him. Seriously how was a student suppose to climb up the stairs to his common room with just his arms. What was the point of the whole thing. He would learn the lesson with the negative points so why was the legs being added on top? He guessed it might of been better then having to duel without a wand. It wasnt like they had done anything with their wands other then take them out of their place. Though still he had to wonder how you forgot your wand to a class. Let alone he was in Ravenclaw. He gave the ravenclaw boy a small smile as he shrugged a little. He moved away from him as he went back to standing at the back of the class.

"Sir, I suspect the thigh holster goes on the non-wand hand side as well?"

Lyra watched with her green eyes as all of the class seemed to volunteer, but she was not willing. If there was anything, she wanted one of those holsters, but was NOT going to demonstrate it.
NOPE!
She sat back in her chair, crossing her arms to her chest. La! La! La! Who was going to be the fastest? La! La! La! She didn't know any of the students standing up at the class and she didn't know the nurse. Where was Ms. BrooksBlahBlahBlah, aka Marie? Was that her name? She was cool, this one, she knew nothing about. BAH!

Well, the dude on the movie had his mechanical firing thing under the opposite side. Surely, this was supposed to be the same way? Yeah, seems about right she thought as she placed the wand under her left arm, the professor can right me if it looks weird... |

So if I was to place my wand on the right, the hilt sits on my hip which would mean that my wand is halfway down my leg." Marcus grabbed the hilt of his wand and drew upwards. "By the time I can get the wand out fully it is up under my arm and at a very awkward position." He then slid the holster around so that it sat on his left hip and reholstered his wand. "Actually no Mr Kettleburn, with a thigh holster you want it on the same side of your wand hand. If your holster sits on the outside of your thigh it means you have to reach around to grab it. If you are wearing an inner thigh holster and you try to draw quickly, you will probably find you may just hit certain body parts that may cause your eyes to water." He chuckled lightly as he moved from the volunteers.
"Okay are we all ready now?" Marcus didn't wait for an answer. "DRAW!!"

Patrick thought about it for a second, lifting his arm and trying both positions as if he had a holster himself. His hand shot up, "Well, mechanically speaking, a left sided holster position for right handed user is better and solicits only the lower arm" he showed how little effort it took, "and you could do it without getting your opponents attention if you turn slightly to the side." He showed what he meant, because it was hard to put into words.
"Putting it on his left side, he'd have to lift the whole arm and twist it around before even getting close to his wand. The opponent would have a few seconds to act before you could even defend yourself...." Patrick stopped to take a breath, "it only takes that long to use an Unforgivable, sir."

Wait, opposite side? Whoops. He quickly moved his holster to the left side of his hips and then looked at the professor to tell them to draw. And once he did, Cam quickly reached to his left with his right hand, his arms full stretching and feeling his cherry wand, pulled it out as fast as he could.

She would be very surprised if she was the first one. And actually, the holster wasn't bad. It was like taking an arrow out from behind ones self in a way...hmm, she hadn't thought about that before.
She directed her wand towards the front, and waited for the others. Silently she wondered to herself how it would be to have a wrist holster all the time, or a back holster, or a waist one. Handy.

at the sound of Professor Lawson yelling Draw Krissy dropped quickly to a squat with one leg out to her side and the knee with the holster bent beneath her. Pulling out her wand she was in a good defense position low to the ground her wand at the ready.
Graceful? No effective? Very.

"Okay are we all ready now?" Marcus didn't wait for an answer. "DRAW!!" Well, that certainly made more sense. He'd made the link earlier by assuming the hip holster should go on the wand-side, and then had assumed he must be wrong about both because he'd been wrong about the one. Sigh. This was so not his day. Quickly, Copernicus attached the thigh holster, making sure the wand handle rested right where his fingertips rested.
And so when the Professor said "Draw"... his wand was already practically in hand. It took one smooth tug and the wand was up and pointed, ready to take out his invisible opponent. Or maybe the Head Boy for looking so excited over Plymouth's embarrassment earlier.

Karma sat quietly in the back while she listened to the others talk. She wasn't in the mood to answer questions, but it was alright. She would have her chance later. After all, the seventeen year old needed a word with the professor after class, which was distracting her. Quote:

Swiftly, she pulled hers from the inside left pocket of her robes that she had added on herself because the original was too high. Somehow, her wand being lower and closer to her hip made her feel more comfortable.
Her eyes darted to watch everyone else to see how they had done, then realized it was only for the volunteers. Hahaha, silly Karma.

In one fluid motion, almost like when she would throw the quaffle into the hoop, Miranda reached across her chest and grabbed her wand under her left arm. She only needed to pull it out and bring it infront of her to stand ready if she had to defend herself. This was pretty fast, wasntit's? She looked around to see if any of the others had gotten their wands out faster. This was tricksy! |

Naomi watched as her classmates drew their wands. Krissy's movement was very stealth-like, quite and low to the grow. Copernicus' movement was a smooth quick move but also it wasn't a move that could start a spell. Miranda's movement was smooth and fluid and could easily start a spell, but then again there was a risk of blowing off a body part. "Professor." Naomi said. "It seems as though Miranda's movement was the most efficient because it could start a spell but Krissy's was good also because she went into a defensive pose." |

Sarah never spoke a word all through the class. She was waiting for some action. She looked carefully at Professor. Lawson's demonstration. She glanced around at the other students and at his word she drew her wand quickly from her hip holster.
It was simple. She had always found her left jean pocket handy for her wand, but not to boast she had been using it from very long time. This seemed just the same, drawing a wand from the left hand. Her hand usually scurried towards her left when she heard movements. Sarah lifted her wand, pointing forwards and looked at the Professor.

Jack watched the demonstration closely. He still found his belt loop a reliable place to store his wand when it wasn't in his hand, which it usually was. If he wasn't playing air guitar, he had a bad habit of using his wand as a drumstick.

I think the thigh one that Copernicus Kettleburn is using would be the best, and probably the fastest. Because it's at the point where his hand would be naturally, like he said, so it seems like it would be easier to draw. He doesn't really have to change positions to draw it, and you can draw it surreptitiously, unlike the back and shoulder ones. Even the hip one might not be as easy to draw." |

Sarah smiled slightly. She never properly saw what the others were exactly doing, she was merely concentrating on hers. She thought a little on that. She thought she did see a boy across draw it first but didn't know if it was him or whatever was his name.
She moved on to the next question. She liked the sound of the hip holster. It was more practical and perfect. "I think the hip holster is best, sir." she said speaking for the first time. It wouldn't hurt to say what she felt, would it? "I felt so, but each one can find any type of them comfortable can't they, I mean, because it depends on the person, right?" she asked questioningly.

Patrick looked at all the students, practically armed in no time flat. Lifting his hand, he said, "The thigh holster seemed the quickest way of getting your wand out. But if one was a lady," he nodded to girls in the row of demonstrators, "and she wore a gown or skirt, that wouldn't be practical. So the chest holster seemed better for that purpose... sir."
Patrick tried out the moves as if he had the holsters in place himself, and he preferred the thigh one.

Anna raised her hand and said, "Professor, I'm going to have to go with Copernicus' thigh holster. The other holsters seemed to be in a position where the caster had to raise his or her hand or stretch it in some way to reach the wand. With the thigh holster Copernicus used, he was able to simply reach to a point his hand would naturally be had it just been by his side. I also think it would be less obvious to have you hand hanging by your side than it would be to have it raised in a manner that indicates you are about to draw something from a pocket. It gives you time to draw your wand without your opponent realizing what is happening."

Emiliano raised his hand, quite slowly. "ERr...I think Copernicus was the fastest. It was easier and not obvious that he would draw his wand from his thigh...not needing him to raise any arm and quite effective." He commented, not really pleased with his answer, though.
