Professor Lawson had spent the last hour setting up the classroom for the first lesson. All the desks had been removed except for his and only the chairs remained. He hung some lanterns from the ceiling, placed a few suits of armor into the corners of the room. A large box sat on his desk.

He moved around the room to make sure that everything seemed to be in place before he threw open the door to allow the students arrival and walked back and leaned against the edge of his desk, his arms folded and his feet crossed at the ankles.

"Please come in, put your bags to to the side, take out only your wands and have a seat."

"Okay so now we are going to pretend that we have a hostage situation." Without waiting for Caroline, he grabbed her around the waist and held her in front of him facing the four students. "You can kill me for this later" he whispered into her ear.

Marcus drew his wand and held it to her neck just behind her ear. "Right so I now have your beloved Healer, I want you four to get her away from me without harming her. Take your time to think exactly how you are going to manage that."

Dani fingered her wand in her thigh holster. Her mind flashed back to a day 8 months ago in a similar situation when the one that could have made the right move had gotten her father killed. She felt the tears forming but pushed them back. She could do this. "Ok you guys," she whispered, gesturing them closer We have to think about this."

"I could bite him," Jake suggested, tilting his head at the man. He knew very well the guy wasn't about to do anything, but Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers were a sneaky lot...

And Jake couldn't think how that related to the holsters.

Hmmmmm...

They could just... be all CHAAAAAAAAAAAARGE! or something.

Well... this obviously wasn't wandworrrrrk! In a real life situation, there would be someone dead sneaky going round the other way...

... in a perfect position to BITE!

Hostage situation? oh god memories! Lyra thought and looked at the professor pointing his wand at the healers neck. no Lyra, this is not the time she thought. Hearing the Ravenclaw girl whispering she got closer to her. "any ideas?" she asked.

Satine realized that she had missed a volunteer opportunity while she was practicing....then she gasped as she saw the Professor grab the Healer....this caught her attention and she whirled around and had a seat for a better view...this class definitely kept you guessing she thought with a smile.....

It was honestly the funniest thing he had ever seen and he wanted to burst into laughter but he was supposed to be portraying a hostage scene.

"Nice of you to join us Mr Morgan. Did it ever occur to you that after your retrieved your wand to lift the jinx I placed on you?" Marcus let out a small chuckle behind Caroline's back.

"Can someone please help Mr Morgan and I want you to see me after class Plymouth."

Christine's jaw dropped with she saw Professor Lawson grab the school Healer and hold her "hostage". Her mouth then closed and formed into a smile as she looked up to the volunteers. This is the best class ever she thought to herself

"Eeep!" she squealed as Marcus totally invaded her bubble. TOTALLY.

"Oh I will." whispered back. That duel was so on.

Her life was in the hands of Jake Upstead? Are you kidding me? Next time she agreed to assist in a class, she would get all the facts. Yessir!

Dani looked around their surroundings. "Well, three of us can send random spells in weird directions to distract him and then the other person can sneak over there in the chaos and jump on him from behind." She stared directly at Jake as she whispered the last part. Then she shrugged. "Any better ideas?"

Jack was extremely glad that he was NOT in front of the class. He tried to put himself in that situation. What would he do? What would his dad do?

Daniel looked at the others. Why does it has to be a hostage taking. Why does it have to be duelling. he thought.

Daniel looked at Dani and nodded. "Let me try something first." he said.

He whipped his wand and pointed at the Professor, without hesitation he exclaimed, EXPELLIARMUS pointing his wand at the wand of the Professor. He then looked at the result.

Oh no! I told you guys he was creepy! Divad thought to himself. He had not fully known that Lawson would do something like this, but sensed something of this type. Let's see how they handle it, yeah, that was going to be fun.

Dani smiled as she saw the group was listening to her idea but turned quickly, pulling her wand on the other boy as he ignored their planning and attacked the professor. "What are you doing?" She yelled at him, furious. "This isn't something to take lightly."

"i'm not sure about the sending random spells part" Lyra said biting her lip. "we could hit one of the students, but i like the rest of it...." she halted when she heard someone say expelliarmus and looked around to see the gryffindor....Gryffindor! gaah of course they never think things through..

Dani lowered her wand, resisting the urge to laugh before turing to the other two and continuing her whispering, "I guess it's just us now. Do either of you know how to conjure those harmless but bright sparks they have at Quidditch games? The ones that come on green and red and gold and make everyone want to turn their heads away from the brightness?" She had seen them before, but had no idea how to make them.

"It.... well, no," Plymouth said after he spit his wand out. He licked his lips a few times to get them wet again. Good thing his wand was smooth and all... tongue splinters just wouldn't have done. "It was the time limit. I don't work well under time limits. Got me all flustered and not thinking... Hey... You got you wand to that pretty lady's head, Sir. That's dangerous. Accidents happen to the best of us!" Clearly.

Anyway, Plymouth crawled back to his desk to ponder what Mr. Lawson wanted to chat about. Last time he'd had an after class meeting (with Truebridge) he'd ended up with some tunes. The teachers were really all so kind and giving. So... what was going on now? Plymouth looked around to everyone else, all excited and stuff. Hmm...

Christine chocked with laughter when she had the healers wand fly out and hit the gryffindor boy in the eye. She put her hand over her mouth to muffle her laugh, and tryed to settle down. She knew it wasn't going to be that easy and they were going to have to be more creative then that.

That's what you get when you don't listen and react before thinking things through. "Well that wasn't particularly bright. I said not to harm the hostage, if you had of used a different spell there would have been serious trouble." Marcus looked at the students with a frown on his face.

"Think about it!!" A disarming spell against an ex auror and DADA teacher? Sheesh like that was ever going to work.

Daniel pulled the wand from his face. An ice pack would be nice now
he thought. He tapped his wand on his face and an ice pack came from nowhere. He put it in his left eye and looked at the others.

He laughed, "Sorry, wrong wand." he exclaimed.

He looked at the Ravenclaw and said, "Isn't that incantation something like this? Periculum for those red sparks?"

Lettie watched on from her place. Let's see, there were several students, and one hostage taker, 'Couldn't they just all take different angles or something? Surely the professor can't take on spells from every direction, right? Or blinding him first?'

She watched on, remaining quiet and every so often checked that her wand was still in her holster. It had now become a habit of her to make sure that it was still in her possession.

"No, yes, sorry ofcourse..." Miranda mumbled incoherently as the professor responded her question. I guess I know what to ask for a birthday present hehehe.

Suddenly a squeal was heard when Lawson hugged the healer. Interesting... A hostage situation! Yes indeed, what should be done?
Well expelliarmus would be good, like that boy had done, but instead got the healers wand to poke him in the eye.

Can spells ricochet?
Maybe it wasn't her turn to talk, but curiosity got hold of her
"Sir," Miranda raised her hand "Can spells ricochet? Maybe one could cast a spell and have it bounce back... like by a mirror or something..."
