"Each holster works to the presenter's advantage," Karma said, speaking up. "Mainly depending on whether you're faster crossing your body with short arms, or if you have long arms for the thigh holster. The witch or wizard with the holster would choose the one that is the easiest or fastest for them." She hoped that was the right answer. Or something close to it. |
People were coming up with good points. Fyo noted them down, thinking to himself. What did it matter which holster was used, anyway? In the end, the fastest-to-draw holster would be different from different people. Thoughtfully, he raised his hand again. "Professor, doesn't the fastness of it all really depend upon practice?" he asked, politely. "If you practice drawing a certain kind of holster, you'll eventually get better at drawing it, than at drawing the other kinds of holsters, no?" |
Diane strapped the holster on her thigh, to her best impression of a female fatale. Had she not worn pants anticipating this kind of physical movement, she would have thought to make a pretty sexy wear. She withdrew the wand from her right thigh and the professor had been right to say had it on her wandhand side made it easier. Still, her withdrawal was nothing special. Mostly, she was just amused. |
"Very good observations from all of you. There is no right or wrong answer here. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. When wearing a holster there are many things to take into consideration. Like how comfortable you are drawing from a certain part of your body. How long it will take you draw your wand and the type of clothing you are wearing at the time." He moved over to Krissy. "The ankle holster can be effective but I wouldn't make it a primary holder. It is best used as a back up. Although Miss Moon, here did show common sense by staying low to the ground once she had drawn." He moved over to Lettie. "The back holster is another good one for using as a back up. As we saw when Miss Dubois, went to draw she fumbled looking for the wand. That can be costly." Marcus moved between Cam and Miranda. "The hip holster and the shoulder holster both require a cross draw. The hip holster is by far easier to get to but the shoulder holster is more easily concealed as your wand sits under your arm but it means you have to lift your arm to get it out." He then stood beside Copernicus. "The thigh holster as Mr Kettleburn demonstrated his very effective as it sits at hand level. One swift movement and it is up and out. But like I said before it all depends on preference of each individual and what you are comfortable with. And of course there is the clothing factor. A thigh holster for a girl wearing a dress is not the most ideal, I am sure you can imagine why." Because he was definitely not going to say it. "Your wand should be concealed at all times. No point in letting your enemy see exactly where your wand is sitting, kind of defeats the purpose of the element of surprise. So that is why I say clothing plays a big part in where you holster your wand." Quote:
Marcus moved over to thee boy who had made a very good point. "yes exactly. Thank you for bringing that up. With plenty of practice you can draw your wand from any part of your body fast enough for an effective surprise attack." He walked back over to the desk and placed the box on the floor. "I want you all to now come to the front and take a holster that you would feel comfortable in using and start practicing drawing your wand from the holster you have chosen. There are plenty to go around and all of different varieties, so that if you don't feel comfortable with the one you have chosen you may try out another one until you find the one you like." |
They could try out the holsters? Whoa, cool. For once not misty-dreamy-fuzzy-whatever, Fyo made his way towards the box the professor had just placed on the floor. Hmm, lots of holsters, in there. YAY! Fyo wondered which to try first and, after a few seconds, decided on a hip holster. After all, he had a feeling it would be the fastest one for him. Of course, he couldn't be sure, but he could always try another. |
We could actually try this stuff? Totally in! Divad made his way to the front and picked out a wrist holster, because he knew he would get used to it faster, and might be easier, who knows, right? That's the beauty of of it! He tried to fit it on, but he needed help. "Professor, could you help me put this on?" |
Sarah watched the progress and now they were to try and practice. Actually practice?! That was really amazing. She'd wanted to get good of this stuff to make sure of surprises at the Duelling Arena. She smiled to herself and left her seat. She moved towards the Professor and glanced at the box. She wondered which one to use first for a whole minute and decided upon the ankle holster. The hip holster was perfect for her, but why not give a try to others. She lifted up an ankle holster and waited for further instructions with a quizzical look. |
Patrick jumped up and walked to the box that held the holsters. He eyed the different designs and decided to pick out a thigh holster. It seemed the simplest choice for him. He took out one example and went to the side, leaving his vacant spot so others could pick and choose. He strapped the leathery holster to his thigh, but it was too high for an easy reach. He readjusted it a few time before getting a perfect height. With a grin, he went to the furthest point of the room and practiced un-sheaving his wand. He tried a twisting movement from his wrist; a lateral snapping motion, palm up... palm down. There was a variety of ways he could do it. He guessed that the way to do it depended on the circumstances. Pursing his lips, he tried and tried again until it felt easier and fluid. He was finally satisfied with his moves but then though about his school robes. He usually wore them inside the school; he could get tangled into them as he raised it off his thigh. He have to try another model and see what that would give. Going back to the box, he waited for a spot to open and took out a hip model. Guess I'll try this one, he thought to himself. He walked back to his spot, strapping the thing to his hip as he went. He wondered if they had a wrist holster in the box. |
Oh yay, they could try them! Raiden stood quickly and moved to the front, careful in the crowd of students as to not step on anyone's feet. Looking into the box, he pulled out a wrist holster and moved out of the way so others could get in. "Hmm..." He strapped it on and put his wand in it carefully, making sure everything was right before lowering his arm. Wouldn't do to have his wand fall out and roll away, would it? "There we go..." he mumbled to himself. He flicked his wrist the same way Cela had; it felt odd, which wasn't surprising considering the fact that he wasn't used to such things, but his wand slid into his hand easily and he raised it as if he were actually in a duel. He could get used to this... and it was really convenient, too! Tucking the wand back into it, he practiced the motion again and again. |
Divad re-checked his question. "Nevermind, Professor, sorry." Divad said, feeling rather stupid. He quickly snapped on the wrist holster and stepped off to the side. He practiced flicking his finger against the holster and drawing his wand out. He managed to do it faster than before, but still not as fast as Celandine. He kept practicing, each time, getting faster and faster with each draw. Divad could use this toward his advantage in the Dueling Arena. Maybe he was better than he thought. Either way, he was getting good, and at a steady pace too. Though, at times, he would run into a few snags or a couple of pulling his wand out too far. In those cases, he would just casually lean over and pick it back up. This was fun. He was actually practicing and getting good! Yes! |
Natasha stood up, and came over to the box. Hmm... Which one to chose? She decided on trying the belt holster, and after stepping away from the box, put it on. After the holster felt comfortable, Natasha put her wand in the holster. She practiced doing it a few times, and after about the third time, it felt about right. Wit a bit more practice, she could probably be able to do it really fast. YAY! |
It was a good thing, this holster. Fyo ran his hand over it, realizing that, despite being sort of thin, it was quite strong. Must be to ensure comfort, he guessed. He strapped it on, wand jammed inside, though not without a teensy bit of initial difficulty. Then he drew, realizing that it really was easier to have his holster at the back, than at the front. He tried again, with no real improvement from his first time, then a few more times - - Finally a little faster. Seemed like he was beginning to get the hang of this thing. And Fyo definitely liked it. |
Divad had a question burning on his mind. He raised his hand, "Professor, may we keep them or do we have to give them back?" He knew it sounded stupid, but he had to take the risk. |
Mari waited until the larger crowd of more eager students started to dissipate before she went up to the box Professor Lawson had set out. She looked through and was pleased to find at least one hip holster left, because she was sure that was her strongest place for drawing. However, just for fun, she got a back holster for Cayden. She came back to him, the back holster slung over her shoulder while she attached the hip holster to her clothing. " Here, it's the only one I could find left." She said with a little smile for him. He would probably know she had done it on purpose, but oh well. She was feeling a bit better now about everything and wanted to be a bit more lighthearted about things. " Should be easy enough, right?" She said as she handed it to him. |
Jule, being quiet all lesson decided to get a holster. "but which one would be better for me?" she said to herself. She really wasn't sure which one to get. Everyone else knew which exact one to get. She felt completely lost now. |

Christian picked up a holster and walked back to his seat. This was so unusual for him Drumstrang was so different. |
Krissy rather liked the ankle holster, but it was not practical for every day use, especially not in her school uniform. Unstrapping it she returned it to the box and tried on a wrist holster. With a flick of her wrist her wand came shooting into her hand as fast as a hare being chased by a fox. "ah yes, I rather like this one" she mumbled more to herself than anyone else in the room. Practicing again and again she got faster on the draw, though not as fast as Celandine, but she would work on it. She silently promised herself that as soon as she could order and ankle holster she would. It would be a nice place to keep her mum's old wand...just in case, after all you never knew what kind of trouble could find her now that she was the leader of her village. |
Jack picked up a thigh holster. Then he went down his mental list...interfere with hair....no, interfere with guitar....no. It passed his checklist, now to see how it would perform. He strapped it on and practiced drawing several times. Yes, he could get quite used to this. |

He looked over at Mari as it seemed to come some what easy for her. He stood over by her as he asked in a low voice." So...um. How do we do this again?" He didnt want to pull out the wand to fast."Something like this." he tried as it wasnt to fast, but it could of been a little more faster. |
At the sound of the next set of directions, Anna left the place she'd been standing in and headed to the front of the room. A thigh holster was what she needed, yes sir'ee! As soon as she'd made it to the front, Anna bent down and dug through the box until she'd found a thigh holster. Or, well, at least that was what she thought she was holding. She hadn't even known what a holster was until half an hour ago. She studied the object for a few moments before deciding that it was indeed a thigh holster. Anna moved off to the side and began strapping the thigh holster to her body. When she was sure it was properly adjusted, she stuffed her wand inside. Instead of immediately pulling it out, Anna stood and studied her new wand set-up for a moment. She could get used to this, for sure. Alright, alright. She needed to practice...no effort for simple admiring around here. She needed something to focus on, though...a makeshift opponent, so to speak. Turning around and around, she finally came face to face with a statue...one that seemed to be staring her down and just ready for a little duel. Ahhh, a victim. Facing her 'opponent', Anna stood still, and then, with amazing speed (or so she hoped), Anna whipped her wand from the holster. Out the wand flew! It was in Anna's right hand and directed towards the statue within seconds. Had this been a real duel, Mr. Statue would have been a goner, for sure! |
Satine debated between a wrist holster and a thigh holster...she was worried about the wrist holster because you weren't always going to be wearing long sleeved attire to hide it away from your opponent, but she felt like she could used to using a wrist holster faster...but she decided to give the thigh holster a try. She walked to the front of the class and grabbed a thigh holster then walked back to her seat and strapped it on...when she was sure that it was on there perfectly...not too tight where her leg would fall off, but too loose where it would fall off...she stood up and checked the holster walking and jumping...she was sure she looked crazy... Finally, Satine placed her wand into the holster and thought threw the process of taking her wand out of it...she practiced drawing slow to get the motions and then fast to make sure she wasn't going to poke her eye out in some odd way... She felt pretty satisfied with the thigh holster, but decided to practice with a wrist holster as well... |
Jack watched the others practice. Interesting. A girl in a dress or skirt with a thigh holster. :hmm: |
