| | DADA Lesson 1
Professor Lawson had spent the last hour setting up the classroom for the first lesson. All the desks had been removed except for his and only the chairs remained. He hung some lanterns from the ceiling, placed a few suits of armor into the corners of the room. A large box sat on his desk.
He moved around the room to make sure that everything seemed to be in place before he threw open the door to allow the students arrival and walked back and leaned against the edge of his desk, his arms folded and his feet crossed at the ankles.
"Please come in, put your bags to to the side, take out only your wands and have a seat."
ooc: Please RP exactly where your character retrieves their wand. Thank you. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ivy Greensward First Year | Ivy rummaged in the box and found a wrist holster. Taking it back to her seat she strapped it on with a small smile and looked around...one boy seemed very interested in the girls who were using thigh holsters, she shrugged and sighed.
There was no point in trying to use her body to distract an opponent the way that pretty girls could, besides she always wore long sleeves and was so quiet that others rarely noticed her. So she decided the element of surprise was best preserved for her by the use of a wrist holster.
Ivy practiced again and again, with progressively less clumsy results until she was quite proficient. "Not bad at all!" she said quietly to herself.

Karma wasn't sure which holster to try, seeing as how she had a wrist one in her trunk. That one provided to be the most useful to her, seeing as how her father gave it to her.
The back holster made her laugh slightly. Almost as if they were back in the medival times, pulling their arrows from their back holster. Like those legends, with those short creatures with hairy feet...
What was that legend?
Meh. She grabbed the waist holster and put it on. It was similar to the pocket in her robes, and she opened her robes to check it out. "Very similar," she said, smirking slightly.

Daniel raised his hand, "Professor, I will have to agree with the one who said regarding practicing the use of holsters." he said looking who that is. "But what holster to use also depends on the situation. For example if you are swimming, it is efficient if your arms are free, so an ankle of a hip holster is to be used." he said with a pause. "If you are trekking a mountain carrying stuff, it is fine to use a wrist or hip holster, for using a shoulder or an ankle holster would be a hindrance to the movement." he said rubbing his chin.

"Hmm..." He strapped it on and put his wand in it carefully, making sure everything was right before lowering his arm. Wouldn't do to have his wand fall out and roll away, would it? "There we go..." he mumbled to himself.
He flicked his wrist the same way Cela had; it felt odd, which wasn't surprising considering the fact that he wasn't used to such things, but his wand slid into his hand easily and he raised it as if he were actually in a duel.
He could get used to this... and it was really convenient, too! Tucking the wand back into it, he practiced the motion again and again. Already having her own wrist holster, and a customised manticore hide one at that (and pink), Celandine didn't bother getting another. She'd practiced with the other kinds before and due to the fact that her specialty was a fast cast rather than a strong cast anyway, the speed factor was the reason that her brother had decided she'd be better with a wrist holster. Cela definitely agreed with that.
She looked over at Raiden and cocked her head as she watched him practice. After a few moments she headed over. "You should tighten the holster a little more across your forearm, that will make it more sensitive to the movement and then you won't need to flick your wrist quite so much." She told him, "Let me show you." Cela took his free hand and placed it on the bare forearm of her unholstered side. "See when I flick my wrist here?" She moved and she could feel the muscle in her arm move in response under Raiden's fingers, "That's what the holster is sensitive to. And you can charm it and tighten the different straps to be sensitive to specific movements. If it's easier for you, you can make it so that your wand is released when you touch your thumb to your middle finger or something like that, a movement that you wouldn't perform by accident. Also, because your holster is made of leather, after a certain length of time the leather will soften and the straps need to be tightened more and more and it can effect the draw. If you like the wrist holster, that's the one that you should get in either dragon hide or manticore hide like mine and to make those soft like the leather ones, you can oil it kind of like muggles do to baseball gloves."
Cela told him earnestly.

Marcus made his way around the classroom watching as each of the students tried out their holsters and he nodded every now and then at the students.
As he walked passed Celandine, he gave her a smile. "You have obviously been taught well Miss Toussaint. Do you have a private tutor during the summer?" And he liked the fact that she was willing to help out another student. "I like the pink by the way." He chuckled softly as he looked out over the class.
"How is everyone going with their holsters? Be sure to find one that suits you because I am allowing you to keep them. So make sure you get the right one."
ooc: I am going to continue this class a little later. Please keep practicing with your holsters and have your charrie find one that suits them. Don't go crazy with the chatting please. I might be offline but Marcus is still watching so behave!!

Raiden's stomach went all wonky the second he realized that Celandine Toussaint was standing next to him again. His hand twitched accidentally and his wand popped out of the holster unbidden; luckily he caught it by the end just before it went out of reach, only looking slightly awkward while doing it. So distracted by that, he nonetheless took immediate notice when she took his hand and put it on her arm. It wasn't quite the same reaction as he had with Kiri; whereas Kiri's hands and accidental brushing usually felt like electricity, Celandine's felt like fire. He resisted the urge to blow a puff of air on his hand to cool it down and instead focused very intently on the feel of her muscle as she flicked.
"I kinda like how... easy it is to draw from these," he mumbled after she had finished telling him about why dragon and manticore were better and how he could charm it to do things. "How long have you been using these, Celandine? They're really useful. Much better than the silly little pocket my mum sewed into my robes."
He very carefully took his hand back and tugged the straps a little tighter around his arm, tucking his wand back up into it again. He tested it out; it did come out with less effort now. Huh. He grinned at her, nodding.
"Thank you. You're really smart." |

The prince of suns was hesitant to try a wrist holster. The slit in his sleeve had done him well so far. With a downward motion, that short wand slipped into the boys palm. Sliding the piece of olive wood into the holster, he gave the contraption a sideways glance. It seemed functional enough, but more importantly, it was cool. "Very cool."
Practicing his quick draw, golden sparkles twinkled from the tip of his wand.

He used to be a Slytherin here and went to Durmstrang before that. He's kind of a scary dueler. He could probably take you, sir." Celandine told Professor Lawson matter-of-factly. She believed it too. "And he lectures me about this stuff ALL THE TIME. The old Hufflepuff prefect does too and it's just easier to learn it than it is to argue with them. They are scary." Cela smiled tentatively. Quote:

"Thank you. You're really smart." "See what I mean?" Cela laughed a little when Raiden's wand launched from his twitching. "The leather is really good for practicing and getting used to the feel of it on your arm. She nodded enthusiastically. "It is easy and you can, once you get used to it, start the wand movement and incantation even while it's releasing into your hand." Pretty much as soon as the wood touched your skin, infact.
"How long? Ummmm. I got my first holster at the end of my first year and Nico started making me practice with it through that summer until I got used to it. I got this manticore one from him for my birthday this year." She eyed it in satisfaction. Pink. Awesomeness. "Oh no, pockets are good, and using your opposite sleeve is really good and discrete; not everyone is like Nico and goes around holstered all the time."
Paranoid Slytherin.
"If you have short sleeves and you don't have a holster, you can keep it on the outside of your hip or folded under the top of your waistband assuming you're wand isn't too long." In demonstration, Cela released her wand from her holster and held it across her stomach, tucking the waistband of her skirt over to secure it in place, her shirt coming untucked in the process and revealing a brief flash of tanned midriff.
"I am smart." Celandine agreed, "But I read a lot and practice a lot too. You should practice making the smallest movement possible and then practice casting on the draw, that's fun." Celandine looked over at Professor Lawson, wondering if that was okay to start on.

Celandine looked over at Professor Lawson, wondering if that was okay to start on. Raiden blushed slightly when she pointed out his twitchiness. Part of him, a very small part, wanted to point out that he was allergic to girls, and therefore that made him twitchy while around them, but now wasn't the time for talking about allergies. He flicked his wrist absently while she spoke, his wand dropping easily into his hand with the motion. He pushed it back up into the holster with one finger and repeated the movement, trying to minimize his needed force like she'd said.
"That makes sense, being able to cast while it's releasing, I mean," he said, staring at her pink holster. For her birthday? Suddenly his gifts felt rather... lackluster and un-pink. But... she'd liked them, so it didn't matter, did it? "And no wonder you're so fast, if you've been doing it since you were a first year."
Pockets were good, she said... but these holster things were far better. And why would Nicholai Toussaint need to go around holstered all the time? Surely he didn't need to use his wand so quickly that much, did he? It was actually probably better not to ask that question, he reminded himself. Some people just had a knack for attracting issues that required fast attention.
"Folded under your-" Merlin's purple toenail polish WHAT?! Raiden's breath caught very oddly in the back of his throat and for a moment he thought he was going to choke on air and die. The moment passed, and he sucked in a breath he had just thought he'd never get to take. What was that for?! Were his girl allergies moving to new levels? This was bad, if they were. "W-wouldn't that be inconvenient though, to draw?"
Distract. Distract from the fact that she was a girl and he was allergic to her. He focused instead on what she was saying, about making the smallest movement possible and learning to cast on the draw. It sounded... slightly difficult, but do-able. Tightening the straps again, and keeping his eyes very firmly on Celandine's face (because that seemed to be a safe place to look, he could still kinda breathe while looking there), Raiden practiced another little flick, feeling the oddness of the sensation of his muscle pressing against the part that would release the wand.
"I used to read a lot, when I was in the hospital," he replied, smiling. "But I doubt it was useful stuff like you did, eh?" |

| Catching up... The Kisapaths | Sila!Roti | -2 | TouchableHair | ToiletPaperGuy | QueenOfConfusion Nancy bit her lip to keep herself from bursting out laughing as Professor Lawson suddenly cast a Jelly Leg Jinx on an older Ravenclaw boy who had apparently forgotten to bring his wand. Well, it was just plain stupid to not bring your wand to a DADA class, if the Defense in Defense Against the Dark Arts was any indicator. So, he sort of deserved to having to crawl up to his Common Room to retrieve his wand.
Watching the new volunteers attentively Nancy cocked her head to the side trying to figure out which holster had been best. Even though the professor had just told them that there obviously was no right or wrong answer to his question Nancy still had to decide which holster would be best for herself. The 14 year old finally decided upon taking the thigh-holster despite Professor Lawson's counter-argument concerning girls wearing dresses or skirts. On the rare occasions Nancy did wear a dress she'd survive. Literally. So, the thigh holster it was.
Nancy quickly walked up to the front and waited until it was her turn to pick a holster from the box the professor had put out. What?! They were going to be allowed to keep the holster?! A huge grin spread across her face as Nancy chose one of the thigh holsters, carefully placed her wand in it before putting it around her right thigh. It was hers now, all hers!

Lyra had been watching the class in silent, not that she wanted to be here but because she wanted to learn every bit of detail but still she was a little startled when the professor ask them to come up and try some holsters, actually trying holsters! even us first years! Smiling to herself she got up from her chair and walked to the front of the class.
Standing in line while the others picked their holsters she thought for it a moment. She really loved the wrist holster but also the shoulder holster. Lyra rubbed her forehead, which one to choose? When it was her turn to pick a holster she scanned the box. She decided to go with her mother and also picked the wrist holster. She had always watched in awe when her mother quickly revealed her wand in a blink of an eye. Grabbing a black wrist holster and walked out of line holding it up a little, ok, so how do you put this on? she thought and looked around to the people that also had chosen wrist holsters. She wrapped it around her right wrist placed her wand inside carefully and lowered her arm down, thinking it would fall out, but it did not! it stayed perfectly in place. Lyra moved her arm quickly and the wand shot out of the holster and in to her hand, pointing it at nothing in particular. Smiling that she had found her "partner" she stepped back a bit and continued practising drawing her wand.

Laura had been sitting near the back of the classroom, as per usual. It wasn't very sensible, being a short firstie, but oh well. What was done was done. She watched as the other students chose holsers. Wow. She was really enjoying this lesson, and had been right when she decide, even before coming to Hogwarts, that it was destined to be one of her favourites. Smiling to herself, she wondered when she should go up and chose a holster.

| Aww... late to the partay. As usual. Encyclopaedia Galactica
As long as they didn't have to actually duel, Kiri was okay with it. She stood up and went along the row of holsters. She had followed the discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of holsters, but had no idea which one would suit her. The wrist holster seemed to be the one favoured by the professor, but it looked a bit uncomfortable to Kiri, so she selected a hip holster and slung it around her waist.
She stuffed her wand into the left side of holster and practised the drawing movement slowly for a few times to make sure her wand didn't get stuck. It was possible to extract it with both her left and her right hand, but, predictably, the greater reach of her right arm made it easier to get her wand out. As well as that being, in fact, her wand arm.
She looked around to see if Raiden was free to practise with her, but he was apparently being instructed by the wandslinging girl from Ravenclaw. To her faint annoyance, Raiden had a look on his face that Kiri had become to associate with their more... personal encounters. With her, to be honest.
She sighed and turned around so she didn't have to look at them. Focusing on their task again, Kiri prepared to pull her wand out of the holster. What would she do with her left arm, though? Did it just dangle on her side? She experimented a few times and came to the conclusion that holding it up slightly to create a sort of empty space between her torso and her arm was the best way. Her wand could be pulled out of the holster and pass through that space.
Kiri took a deep breath. Now it was time to try. Draw.
She rushed for her wand in the holster, but her first attempt was so misjudged that she couldn't get it out. Instead, she ripped the holster up a few centimetres before she realised what had happened. Okay, that hadn't worked. Kiri adjusted the holster and stared ahead again. Draw.
She decided to start off slower this time to learn the motion first, and her wand did come free. She pocketed it again immediately. Draw. Draw. Draw...
As Kiri repeated the movement again and again, she got quicker and quicker. She noticed that, more and more, she found herself standing in the duelling position at the end of the draw, her left arm hovering above the holster, her right in front of her chest, ready to cast a spell.
Adjusting her holster height, it hung relatively low on Kiri's waist now, but that made it easier for her arm to reach her wand. She went on drawing her wand, pocketing it, drawing it again.

| A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Lyra walked off to a corner in the room and stood perfectly still, she imagined, just like those muggle cowboy films that she was facing a opponent. She moved her arm but this time it didn't work, her wand slipped out of her hand and on the ground. 'great' she thought, knowing in a real duel she would be a very easy target, she picked up her wand and placed it in her wrist holder again. She stood right up and quickly moved her arm again and her wand drew in her hand which she pointed infront of her. She was so excited that it was working that her wand made red and golden sparks. Lyra tried again this time a little bit faster and pointed her wand, again, again again. She was getting better with each attempt. Lyra smiled to herself, she couldn't wait to try it out in a duel.

Hayley got a bit giddy when the professor said they could practice with the wand holsters...YAAAAAY!. Then she almost went into cardiac arrest when he said to choose the RIGHT ONE because they got to KEEP THEM! Oh joyness of JOY!
Hayey scurried to find a thigh holster...she'd liked how easy it was for the older boy to draw during the demonstration. Securing the holster to her right thigh, she slid her wand into the correct position, and relaxed with her hand resting comfortably next to the handle part of her wand. Ho-kay! DRAW
Hayley's hand grabbed the wand and pulled. She fumbled a little, but hey, this was her first time actually drawing a wand, so she figgered with a little more practise, and a bit more confidence, she'd do juuuust fine!
Hayley practised for about 10 more minutes until she got comfortable with the thigh holster. Deciding that maybe she should try out some other stuff, she went and grabbed a wrist holster, just to check it out.
Securing the wand and holster to her arm, she took a deep breath. Draw! *flick*
Eww...that was weird. She didn't like having the wand attached to her arm like that! It was all...uncomfortable. she couldn't really bend her wrist appropriately because of where the tip of the wand rested. She practised a few more times anyway, but it just didn't feel right!
Putting the wrist holster away, she picked up the thigh one again, attached it, and continued practising, Thaaat's better!

Lettie had been so busy with practicing redrawing her wand, that she had only caught a few sentences of what the professor was saying. 'Wait...keep them?' They got to keep the holster that suited them best? That was pretty nice.
She walked over, still with the back holster on and filed through a few others, everyone seemed to favor the hip or wrist holster, but Leticia didn't want one of those. People wouldn't have made a back holster without a reason, she would keep the back holster she had on now and perfect her skill in dawing her wand with it...maybe even keep a spare in it. "Thank you, Professor." Leticia said with a smile and walked farther away so that others could sort through the other holsters; she needed to practice more.

Daniel walked across the room and into the table. He was still undecided on what to get, he looked at the holsters. After much thought, he took a black wrist holster. He looked around and tapped his wand on the holster to give it a spunk. Then there appeared a silver tribal design. A dragon that looks like this.
Daniel smiled at the result. He is very satisfied. He then put it on and took a seat.

| connoisseur of comfort ❅ Crayola's Wibby Mrs Alex Turner ❅ Netflix and meow Oooh, oooh. This was so awesome. They were allowed to try on some of those holster things, AND keep them!? WHEE! Clifford rummaged through the box, hunting for a hip holster - he'd thought this type seemed pretty cool. And the Professor was right, much better than shoving his wand down the back of his pants.
After finding what it was he was looking for, the seventh year took a moment buckling the holster around his waist, making sure to wear it so his wand would fit into the left side. He was right handed after all.
And now - DRAW!
Arm moving across his body, Clifford drew his wand swiftly. CHYEAH.

Marina wanted a wrist holster, but as she was one of the last in line as usual, there were only wrist holsters left that were too wide for her skinny arms, so she took a hip holster instead. She walked over to a corner of the classroom, put the holster on and her wand into it. Holding up her right hand into the air, ready to catch, and looking down at the holster expectantly she said "Draw!" At first nothing happened, but at the second attempt the wand shot out of the holster, poked her in the cheek (narrowly missing the eye) and fell to the floor clattering. Marina picked it up. Before she tried practicing again she looked around at the other students, partially to check wether someone had noticed her clumsyness, partially to watch how the other people with hip holsters were dealing with them.

The old Hufflepuff prefect does too and it's just easier to learn it than it is to argue with them. They are scary." Cela smiled tentatively. Marcus gave Celandine a smile. "Oh he could try Miss Toussaint, he could try. But he at least has some good pointers for you." He raised an eyebrow at the young Ravenclaw and glanced over at Jake. "Scary? from what I heard she sounded like a lovely girl who looked out for her fellow students. Perhaps I am thinking of a different person." Quote:

Marcus stopped to watch a young Slytherin girl practice her drawing and he nodded at her. "Excellent work Miss, keep that up and your opponent won't see it coming, which is exactly what you want. Nice job." Quote:

Just a simple snap of your wrist should do the job. You don't want your opponent knowing exactly where you are drawing your wand from." Quote:

If you are going to use the back holster than I would suggest that you practice just reaching behind you and finding your wand first before trying to draw it." He gave her an encouraging smile. "It will seem repetitive but it does take time to actually find your wand when it is sitting on your back. Once you have that down then practice drawing it from the holster."
Marcus continued to prowl around the room watching as the students practiced drawing their wands from the holsters. ooc: I'll be back in about 6 hours or so whenever I drag myself out of bed. Keep practicing and we will continue with the lesson when I get back online.

And he liked the fact that she was willing to help out another student. "I like the pink by the way." He chuckled softly as he looked out over the class.

Miranda hurried over to the box, still wearing the chest-arm-holster, and started to rummage around for the different types. Picking one of each, she stood to the side and began to try them on.
First, the wrist holster.
This one was tricky because when placing the wand, to Miranda, it felt like she had a splint, immobilizing her wrist from moving. Nuh huh... Miranda shook her head gently. A chaser cannot be immobilized! Easy on the war cry there.
Removing the wristy and the other holster she was wearing and placing them on the chair, she picked up the back holster. Seriously, how people knew which way was up and down, she had no clue. But after much debating, the thing was properly put on her self. Uh... now the only thing left to do was to actually place her wand in the holster.
Raising her wand arm in the air, she tried to bullz-eye the wand in the holder-thingy. After a moment Miranda decided to remove the holster, place the wand in the position and then put on the holster back on. Right.
Now she tried to remove the wand, making her crane her neck to see where it was, and ending up spinning around like a dog chasing its tail. "Gah!" she huffed, and finally after much squirming, the wand was in her hand.
This back holster was not suited for her 'short' chaser arms.
