| | |  CoMC Lesson 1 :: Nifflers
Professor Morgan was in a glorious mood this morning as she exited her office door. With a flourish of her wand, she levitated a number of large wire cages, each of which contained 2 or 3 fluffy black creatures with long snouts and flat paws.
With the cages leading the way, Iliana headed down to the paddock. She carefully deposited the cages on the ground and then withdrew a small black pouch from her robes. With a flick of her wand, its contents were instantly deposited beneath the soil. Professor Morgan had instructed the class not to wear anything shiny; she sincerely hoped that they took heed of her advice, otherwise they were going to be in for an extremely interesting lesson.
There was still some time to before the class was due to start so the professor reached down and unlatched the cage closest to her, pulling out one of the black fluffy creatures and cradling it in her arms. Then she leaned up against the paddock fence and began stroking its head while she waited for the first of her students to arrive.

Since Ricco was alone and the Professor had ignored him Ricco watched as his Niffler ran around the patch really fast stopping to dig every few seconds knocking up coin after coin. Picking up the coins Ricco took a pouch and counted them as they went in, "1 gold..nope 3 gold" He said out loud "and ..2...no wait 4 silver coins". 7 coins was great.

Opening her eyes, she realised that they had come into contact with her Nifflers snout, and that her had another three coins. "Well done lil guy!" she exclaimed. Now they had eight!

"So... you... kinda hafta give it back," he added, reaching up to his earringless ear before deciding he should get on with the lesson. Smirking a tad and toterly pushing his luck, Jake backed away.

Karma's niffler came back up to her and spit out four more treasures into her hand. Then, as fast as the girl niffler came up, it went back underground.
Karma looked around to see how the others were doing, but quickly put her objects in the pouch. NO need to get attacked by the others here.

Dang. The niffler hadn't come back for some time, and Lettie was watching on as it dove in and out of the soil. She continued to check her bag, not daring to take any out in case a stray niffler wanted to steal.
She sighed and waited as it came over finally, but with a piece of scrap metal or something from a busted bracelet. Leticia praised it, and the niffler darted off again to search more.

The niffler came running back with its mouth full. It dropped the items into Naomi's hands. She began to count them out and put them in the pouch Professor Morgan gave her. "Well that was 6 gold coins, 5 silver, and 3 silver chains. So that makes a total of 17 gold coins 5 silver, and 4 chains." She said with a smile to Iris.

Elizabeth gave up on the idea of having a partner, as a niffler came running up to her and tried to crawl up her leg, obviously going for her pocket. She laughed a little, crouching down and seting it back on the ground, before sticking her hand in her pocket. "Okay, little guy. It's just you and me. And you're supposed to go over there and try and find me some coins," she siad to the little creature in a low voice, pitching it under the noise everyone else was creating. Pulling her hand out of her pocket, she had the necklace the Gryffindor girl had given her hidden in her fist, although she knew the niffler had to know it was there, especially since his shiny little eyes had gone immediately to it and he had started fidgeting.
"Go and get me lots of coins, and then I'll let you have this, okay?," she then said, trying to make a deal with the niffler. Which she had to stifle a giggle, considering it seemed hilarious she was practically blackmailing a creature. Nicely of course, but it was still there. But luckily, the niffler seemed to decide she was trustworthy, and turned to run over to the pile of earth the other nifflers were digging in, wiggling his way into the middle and diving into the earth wholeheartedly.
Elizabeth shifted to sit down cross-legged on the ground, sticking her hand back into her pocket for the time being as she waited for her niffler to return. And she laughed as he came back, depositing two coins on the ground in front of her before going back to the dirt. Apparently she had gotten the niffler that took motivation wholeheartedly. And he returned several more times, always bringing back at least one or two coins, and she started gathering them up, as her pile reached eight, nine coins. And when it reached twelve, she shook her head in disbelief as the niffler went back for more, and she took the Gryffindor's necklace out and laid it on the ground under one knee, deciding to let her niffler have it if her wanted, next time he came back.

Iris grinned as the niffler came up to them. "wow... that's alot, I'm glad your keeping tabs on it all bacause maths and counting and all that never was my expertise!" she said, laughing at their luck.
Iris grinned as the niffler came up to her and deposited a funny looking, broken ring and 5 coins in her lap, "hey, Naomi, they'are 5 coins and some broken ring."

Hmmm. "Or not," Clifford grinned boyishly in excitement when an extra fluffy niffler literally tackled him and spat out a couple of coins right in his lap.

They hadn't even had to DO anything! Before he had a chance to do anything else, the niffler had shot off again, scuttling back under the dirt. Awesoome. "Hyper little things, ain't they?" He chuckled, depositing the coins in the little pouch professor Morgan had supplied.

But, since the thing was not completely out of the hole it had digged yet, it was a bit hard to tell what it was exactly. "Yeah, adorable too," Rachel laughed and raised her eyebrows slightly. Adorable? I don't know if I would say adorable - it's a slightly strong word to use for a ratlike creature, but I suppose... Besides, it's weird to hear the word come out of Willow's mouth. "Are you sure it's a he? They all look like males, so it's pretty hard to tell," she commented as she waited expectantly for the niffler to come out already. Why was it taking so long? ... Aha! She grinned as she saw it stick it's head out of the hole with something shiny, just like Willow had said. Quote:

"Oh, thank you professor," she said as she handed each pair a pouch for their coins. Turning back to Willow, she showed her the small coin with a victorious smile. "One down - hopefully lots more to go," she said and dropped it into the pouch with a satisfied air.
