| | |  CoMC Lesson 1 :: Nifflers
Professor Morgan was in a glorious mood this morning as she exited her office door. With a flourish of her wand, she levitated a number of large wire cages, each of which contained 2 or 3 fluffy black creatures with long snouts and flat paws.
With the cages leading the way, Iliana headed down to the paddock. She carefully deposited the cages on the ground and then withdrew a small black pouch from her robes. With a flick of her wand, its contents were instantly deposited beneath the soil. Professor Morgan had instructed the class not to wear anything shiny; she sincerely hoped that they took heed of her advice, otherwise they were going to be in for an extremely interesting lesson.
There was still some time to before the class was due to start so the professor reached down and unlatched the cage closest to her, pulling out one of the black fluffy creatures and cradling it in her arms. Then she leaned up against the paddock fence and began stroking its head while she waited for the first of her students to arrive.

Laura ran after one of the Nifflers. It was one of the fastest, yup, and that was good. Faster they got the treasure, faster the won those points back. Leaping, she skidded, and cornered it in a tight hug. Oohhh, it was so soft and fluffy!
Then she let it go again! It flew fast to the ground and began digging. Mud went all over Laura, silver mud...
SILVER! Laura ducked down and grabbed the two coins the Niffler had dug up. WOW!

"Oh, yeah, me too - or if we don't, then at least a pair of Ravenclaws," she replied with a firm nod of her head, still shooting death glares at the two babblers. In her opinion, winning the House Cup this year was just even more important than any other year because she wanted to prove to herself that she could multi-task properly - get 'O's in all her OWLs as well as be a good Prefect and make sure that students did their best, earned points and won the House Cup. Professor Morgan's going to see them... she thought and then groaned as her thoughts came true. The teacher had just taken off five points for chattering. She folded her hands over her chest and pouted slightly as she wondered how on earth she was supposed to achieve her goal if people insisted on not following the rules...

Apparently, the niffler that Ott had picked out was a noisy one. It darted around and knocked another niffler out of the way, making a *Squeak* as it did so.
"I thought they were supposed to be nice." Lettie said as she watched the niffler toss heaps of soil behind itself, getting deeper and deeper into the dirt. "It's fun to watch though." She said as another scrap of something was flung towards her. At this rate, the animal would completely mutilate whatever it was trying to dig up.

Great, five points from Ravenclaw. Mariel shot the little chatterbox a frowny look before turning her attention back to Professor Morgan. Now even if she and Sarah won, her points for Ravenclaw would only make up for the ones the boy lost. Sigh.
Watching as the professor started to open the cages, the third year shook her head in answer to Sarah's question. "I have a feeling we'll have to return everything we find..." And then the nifflers were off. Mariel got behind an unoccupied one in pursuit of some shiny treasure.
