"Come on... where are my Ravenclaws here? Be specific..." She said trying to move further from the Auroch... scary thing. |
Her hut? Varius blinked. He didn't know what this meant. He had never been called to an office OR a hut before. Maybe he was being rewarded for being so good? or maybe he was gonna get a smack for being naughty? What did he do? He decided to remain silent for the rest of the lesson... that way he wasn't outshining his classmates or creating more trouble for himself... whatever was the most accurate. "Yes ma'am," he indicated to his Professor so she knew he had got ze message. |
William tried again, "They ate like grass-like plant , leaves off trees, acorns and herbs, I think they even ate some bark from trees, though I'm not sure exactly why. It's obvious they were vegetarians though." he didn't know what else to say so instead he put his hands in his lap and continued to stare at the massive beast. |
Abby raises her hand again knowing Professor Lupa will be mad. "Depending in the time if year, Auroch eat from bushes and trees including the fruit from trees such as acorns." |
Chris raised his hand when the Professor urged on the Ravenclaws. He wanted to show her that he and the other Gryffies knew it too. "Professor Aurochs thrived off of a vegitarian diet consisting of mostly shrubs, fruit, grasses, and tree bark." He then added, "They were pretty much considered grazers like their cow desendents." |
Daniel raised his hand, "Professor, to add something to what Chris had said, the things aurochs love the most are the grass and herbs from the shaded forests." he said trying to prove to the Professor the Gryffindors are as talented as the Ravenclaws. |
Linda raised her hand and said 'Professor,I think they graze in the meadows and forestlandss and eat grass and leaves, like the other cattle' |

Sure Lupa had suggested Anna or Evangeline or Clifford (who truth be told seemed as clueless as he did), but why not ask someone younger with a clear understanding of the material? Besides, they were sharing a common room right now anyway. But his reverie was broken at the sound of Professor Morgan's voice and Dominic remembered this was a joint Runes/Creatures lesson. Quote:
"Grass . . ." The sixth year said hesitantly, hand in the air, but then bit his lower lip thoughtfully at hearing Lupa telling them to be specific. "From like grassland prairies, so they like the tall grasses. And leaves. Aurochs like leaves too." |
Herminny raised her hand and said, "I believe the auroch eats grass and leaves.". |
Cedric raised his hand."They are hervibores prof,They eat grasses and leaves."He answered. |
Lida added 'Yes professor, they are herbivores and so they eat only plants and plant food, like the other cattle' |
Natka thought about this. If Aurochs were similar to modern cows, then their diet must be similar too - which meant it was comparable with that of a horse. And Natka knew all about what horses ate. "As herbivores, Aurochs would eant plants and herbs, I presume. Their main diet would consist of grass, possible some plants and flowers as well, although I'm not sure specifically what. I'd agree with the other people saying that they probably ate leaves - however, shouldn't it be specified that these leaves must be directly eaten from a living plant? I mean, no herbovire is likely to eat dead leaves that have fallen off trees. To add to that, I'm not usre, but perhaps Aurochs could have eaten hay as well, like horses, for instance?" Natka said, voicing every thought that came to her mind concerning the Aurochs' diet. She wondered if she managed to get anyhting right from that. |

"Put it this way," the Head Boy mumbled under his breath, "I'd rather bump into that auroch in a dark Knockturn Alley." Shudder. Oh, and on the subject of aurochs. "Do they eaaaat... people?" If they did, that was ... SO COOL! |
Absentmindedly petting Thor on his nose, the professor nodded at each student's answer. Unfortunately as the minutes ticked by, still no one that had correctly guessed their main food source. "You are on the right track guys, the Aurochs do indeed eat grass. But what they prefer to eat, what makes them stronger and so much more powerful... is Sphagnum Moss." She explained. "Now today I thought it would be interesting for each of you to be able to see an Auroch up close. This will help you get a better understanding of his strength and his size." She pat him once more on the side and then pulled out her wand. "On the other side of the paddock fence I've left a bucket full of Sphagnum Moss." With a flourish of her wand, the bucket rose over the fence and into her waiting hand. "Alright now class, I'd like each of you to stand and form a single file line. When you're ready, please step up one at a time and grab a handful of moss. Then with your hand flat, feed the moss to Thor, like this..." Professor Morgan demonstrated first, allowing them to see how gently the auroch ate from her hand. "See! Easy as pie. Now who'd like to be first?" |
Linda raised her hand. 'Umm..Can I professor?' |

Linda said 'thank you professor' and moved to the auroch. She felt herself getting goosebumps. But she tried to overcome her slight fear. She moved to the auroch and first patted it gently with a smiling face. She then took a handful of mosses and brought the food near it's mouth. She was a bit scared but when she saw the auroch eat it,she felt happy and relieved. She patted it again and stepped back, looking at Prof. Morgan |
"That was wonderful!" Professor Morgan exclaimed, keeping her voice just quiet enough not to startle Thor. "Alright now guys, step on up here and take your turns." |
Sphagnum Moss? And they were supposed to know that HOWWW!?!??!!!!!!!!!! Dominic blinked as Professor Morgan took over this part of the lesson which involved FEEDING one of the aurochs, Thor or something, that they had here for them to learn with. And then the Creatures Professor asked for a volunteer to go first and the sixth year frowned slightly when some hyper first year hopped up first . . . quite literally as she already was up by the animal and feeding it moss before Dom could even get his hand up. Before Morgan could even say 'okay'. Crazy first years. Ugh. Irritated, the sixteen year old just folded his arms, as he pretended to be remotely interested. |
WOAAAH!! They were aloowed to actually FEED the auroch? AWESOME. "OOH! Ooh! Can I have a go? Pleaaaase?" Clifford bounced to his feet and made his way to the beast. Dunking his hand in the bucket, the seventh year got himself a fistful of moss. "Why do they eat this stuff, ma'am? Is it yummy? Can humans eat it? .... can I try some?" Hehe. |
Eeep! They could feed it? Awessomee! Vanessa smiled as she watched some first year feed the Aurochs, before she got up herself. Eeh. She was excited. Vanessa giggled as she heard Clifford. "Clifford...It's not sausages." Vannie grinned, as she watched him take a handful of the moss. But if the creature liked it. "Can I go after Clifford Professor Morgan?" |
Iliana smiled at them and said, "No need to ask permission, just come on up 'ere." She motioned them forward. |
"Yeey" Vanessa giggled, as she beamed at her favourite teacher. This was going to be fun. Tehe. Stepping towards the Aurochs, Vannie took a handful of the moss, and smiled at the magificent creature. "Aren't you handsome." The small girl spoke, as she held out her hand, so that the creature could eat the moss off of her hand. "Eep...It tickles." She giggled, glancing at Professor Morgan, and grinning. Ahh, she loved being around the creatures, and that reminded her that she still hadn't gone to see her kneazle. Oppsie. Once she had finished feeding the Aurochs, Vanessa took a few steps back, to watch everyone else have a go. |
"He is NOT handsome," Clifford pulled a face at Vanessa's words and eyed the auroch. Handsome? Heck, that thing was UUUGLEH. And it had an awful taste in food too. Yup, he'd tried that moss.. and it tasted VILE. Deffo not as good as sausages. Well, whatever floats your boat, huh? Holding his palm out flat, Clifford waved the moss infront of the auroch's mouth. Don't bite, don't bite.. EEEK! "COOOOL! Auroch slobber!" All over his hand! NEAT. |
"Professor, I will go next." said Naomi. She stepped up to bucket of Sphagnum Moss and grabbed some in her small hand. She walked up slowly to the Auroch and put out her hand. He began to eat it and Naomi cautiously began to pet him on the head. "This is really awesome Professor!" Naomi said with a smile. "Is it possible for me to spend some more time with him after class?" |
