"It can mean violence, aswell." Evangeline said, raising her hand, her eyes still on the Auroch. Freaky thing.

Hermione345 06-27-2009 06:34 PM

Linda raised her hand and said 'Professor,I think thatthe uruz rune can also mean a dramatic change.'

PhoenixRising 06-27-2009 06:48 PM

Dominic definitely needed to be paying more attention; especially since Professor Lupa had given him a pardon on his dreadful OWL scores to be able to continue with her class. Even if she should have still just dropped the subject, he wanted to truly at least attempt to understand it.

Merkstave?

Sounded vaguely familiar. If Dominic didn't know better, then he would say it was something dark. Oh, right, it was quite literally something dark. Raising his hand tentatively, as many others answered already, the sixth year spoke quietly, "Well Merkstave means quite literally 'dark stick' and so when Uruz turns up as reversed or merkstave, then it would have some negative connotations, like a misdirected force."

Droo 06-27-2009 08:35 PM

"Very good, all of you! I am impressed how many of you came prepared to class. Alright, so... storytime!" She said and clapped her hands. "Alright, so you remember the story of Fehu? With the primal cow?" She asked but continued assuming everyone remembered. "Well, the first 8 runes represent the creation myth as Norse Mythology explains it. So Uruz, is the second part of this story." She giggled and ruffled Clifford's hair... RAWR... that was as precious as a puppy. "Uruz represents the formation of all things, in the creation story. It's the falling rain and the ice that melts and falls on the the earth from the great tree of life and this starts the beginning of all things. Fehu began the fire of creation, and uruz was the structure for it. Together, the runic power of Fehu and Uruz formed the basic forces that created earth and continue to sustain life on it. Does anyone know the Galdr for Uruz?"

TeafortheSoul 06-27-2009 08:40 PM

Cela raised her hand, "uruz uruz uruz, u u u u u u u u u, u u u u u u r r r r r r, u u u u u u u u u."

Cassirin 06-27-2009 08:40 PM

Copernicus flipped through his book before raising his hand. And noooooow he was going to look like a git saying this part. "Um... Professor? Is it:

Uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u."

Anna Banana 06-27-2009 08:42 PM

Raising her hand, Anna asked, "Do you mean the chant, Professor? If so, it's...

uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u
..."

She hoped she said all of that correctly. It was a good thing she and Cela had talked about Galdr for Fehu just the other day. Otherwise, she probably wouldn't have known how to even begin answering that question.

Waterloo 06-27-2009 08:43 PM

YAAAY! Storytime! Clifford liked stories. Stories about evil, bloodsucking monsters were the bestest. Well, 'cept when they gave him nightmares.. but big, strong men didn't have nightmares.. so noone would hear about them. Heh.

The Head Boy stiffened when he felt Professor Lupa ruffle his hair with a giggle. OH GAWD, NO. She still had the hots for him!? But - But ..

Scared, Clifford linked his arm with Plymouth's. If she was going to get him.. Plymouth was going with him. HMPF.

He didn't know what a Galdr whatsit was.. and he was too scared to ask.

... why were Cela, Copernicus and Greingoth talking baby language?

Goo - u u u u - Gaa gaaa.

RachieRu 06-27-2009 08:44 PM

Ooh. Vannie knew this. Tehe. Such a swot. Grinning she raised her hand "Oooh...the Galdr is...

uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u

well...I think so..."

Crayola 06-27-2009 08:45 PM

Oh. Did they really have to say this out loud? It was so ... well, slightly humiliating. It wasn't really humiliating because it was in class, but yeah. Evangeline raised her hand, frown on her pale forehead. "The Galdr for Uruz is uruz uruz uruz / u u u u u u u u u / u u u u u u r r r r r r / u u u u u u u u u..."

PhoenixRising 06-27-2009 08:51 PM

And then all of a sudden it was storytime and Professor Lupa finished by asking for the 'Galdr' for Uruz. WHATT?!??!? Staring blankly at his spot as Cel-an-dine (figures she would be first), jumped in on some chant which didn't sound much of anything. Was Galdr even a word? The sixteen year old was pretty sure that it wasn't.

But apparently Copernicus and Anna didn't seem as dumbfounded as he was, because hardly a moment passed before they joined the fourth year.

Pfffttttt... Stoopid know-it-alls.

Folding his arms for only a second as he tried to still comprehend the gibberish they were speaking, the sixth year quickly rose his hand again. "Uh.... Professor? I'm just wondering..." Why was a flush on the verge of breaking through his cheeks now? No such thing as a stupid question, he reminded himself. "What's a gal...gald--r?"

Oh great. Now people would think the Hufflepuff Male prefect was an idiot. But really it wasn't his fault that Runes and him did not get along. At all.

TeafortheSoul 06-27-2009 09:02 PM

*ish a shtupid know it all* lol

Celandine beamed at Dom-in-ick. "It's like... an incantation used in a rite, it activates the power of the runes. You can do them in different combinations and Norse Healers used to and it sounds like they are crazy and wailing and stuff but they are actually invoking the power behind the different runes." Cel told him helpfully, her hand still in the air "I have books about them if you want to read them later."

Mrs. Weasley 06-27-2009 09:34 PM

Abby looks up Galdr in her Ancient Runes textbook. [I]Galdr or Galdor is from Old Norse and originally meant incantation. Galdr are the sounds used in runic oral spells. Lets see. The Galdr for Uruz is uruz uruz uruz u u u u u u u u u u u u u u u r r r r r r u u u u u u u u u . Fascinating....[/U]

PadfootAndTheWolf 06-27-2009 10:45 PM

Chris listened to the story and then raised his hand "Um the chant is

uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u

So this is what the term I said before mean, Primal Creation?" he asked about the answer she said she would touch on in a minute.

Plymouth was feeling equally puzzled. And afraid. It was okay for men to cuddle when they were afraid, so Plymouth gladly took Clifford's arm. "What's creepier?" he whispered, "Lupa, the BEAST, or the weird chanting?" Not that Plymouth wasn't fond of Lupa, but she - you know - like manly students.

Like Clifford Carden. And Plymouth Morgan.

"I'll watch your back if you watch mine."

"Oooguhhhh uuu uuuu ruuuu pooot" Plymouth chanted just so he'd blend in.

Lislchen 06-27-2009 11:08 PM

Galdr?! Nancy blinked a few times at the professor's next question. What the heck was she talking about?! Her blinking speeded up further when some of her fellow classmates started singing somekind of weird song-ish sort of thing. Something with a lot of Us in it. Huh?! Had she missed something?!

Just as she had been about to raise her hand to simply ask what the heck was going on she had to notice that somebody else was faster than her. Somebody who turned out to be Dominic Denton. Well, at least she wasn't the only one who was immensely confused.

Her brow furrowed slightly at Cela's explanation of what a Galdr was as now she was even more confused than she had been before. So, where they all supposed to sing that weird U-song now?! Yay for choir-lessons. Nancy thought sarcastically with a huge frown plastered across her face.

There was a reason Evangeline had two eyes. While she was concentrating on the class and chanting stupid things, she was also perfectly aware of Plym and Clifford snuggling. Weird much?

When she heard Plymouth whisper something to Clifford, she sneakily leant in and prodded him with her finger. "Oi! No chatting."

Which clearly meant: 'Keep your hands off mah maaan!'

But shuuuush. That's a secret.

Leeness 06-27-2009 11:11 PM

Varius reddened in the cheeks, "Why thank you Plymouth! I think your shirt buttons are rather spiffy too!" He had been talking to Varius in the special language of gritgrot, of course. How had Varius known Plym was talking about him? Well 'Oooguhhhh' was Varius in this lovely language, although eye contact couldn't have hurt!

"laaaabla eeeeekkk hur bul ug ug ug BLA WAHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHH MAAAAAAMMAAAAAAAAAA meeee feeee rutleeee THIS IS NOT MY WIG essssss tusaaa mucca WAHHH goo... GOO!" Varius took three years of gritgrot seminars. He was pro.

Torchwood 06-27-2009 11:55 PM

Jack listened to the others chant. He was SO glad that music had progressed past chants. The others had done a fine job, so he wasn't about to add his interpretation to the mix.

Liisa 06-28-2009 02:35 AM

Professor Morgan giggled openly at the chanting students. Heehee. And Less called her subject degrading. HA! But that were highly amusing and Merlin, you had to love 'em. She raised an eyebrow at Varius, Cliffie and Plym and found herself laughing again.

"Okay class, that's excellent! You're all absolutely right." She announced, trying to keep a straight face. "Now... does anyone know what Aurochs eat?"

Leeness 06-28-2009 02:40 AM

"I heard they ate books Professor Morgan. So as to make their brains bigger. 'Cause if you don't have tha looks," he looked the beast up and down, "You ought to have brains for tha ladies to like you. Right?"

Golden Monkey 06-28-2009 02:42 AM

William was too engrossed with his shoe to pay much attention to anything and so when Professor Morgan spoke again he jumped raising his hand. "They eat grass don't they? I think they do. I'm pretty sure they do if they're like bison or cows." He replied, now trying very hard to pay attention to the double class at hand, which was difficult. It didn't matter if he was wrong, he was learning after all, right?

Droo 06-28-2009 02:45 AM

"Master Tipps... you will see me in my office- errrr Hut, Professor Morgan's Hut... you will come see me after class." She was starting to feel like the boy was being disrespectful... and that wasn't good.

Anna Banana 06-28-2009 02:47 AM

People?

That was Anna's first thought, but she didn't say that out loud, of course. The animal looked so freaky...and big...and scary. It looked like it could easily do a number on a person. Aurochs eating grass was her next best guess. It made sense, too. They sort of looked like cattle...a litte...she guessed. Raising her hand, she said, "Grass? I've heard that long ago, mammals...such as that one...evolved to eat grass." She sort of grew quiet after she said that, though. She was unsure of her answer, and if she was dead wrong, she didn't want to say too much.

Mrs. Weasley 06-28-2009 02:50 AM

Abby raises her hand. "They also eat herbs."
