"Eihwaz?" he guessed raising his hand uncertainly. "'cause of the whole strength, protection and motivation thing. Like you would feel pretty motivated to get the flooding to stop - or out of the room. There is also endurance. That would be pretty useful here." Yeah, he sucked at this class.

Jessica 07-18-2009 04:32 AM

Shumeeta opened her bag and began to bring up runes. It was a moment before she found the one that she wanted. "Thurisaz," she said, as she raised her hand. "Becuz one of its meanings is protection an' it can be seen as very positive, safeguardin' us and assurin' us that we do not stand alone in our time of need."

MarcyMoo 07-18-2009 04:37 AM

looks like we get our info from the same site Lezleighd

Lucy looked around the room as it began to flood itself. She digged through her runes bag and finally pulled one of the cards out. She finally found it and held it up for the professor to see.

http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/r...al/nauthiz.gif

"Is it Nauthiz professor?" She asked, very unsure of her answer. "Because it means needs? Resistance leading to strength maybe?" She added extremely unsure of her explanation as to why she picked the rune. But who cared if she was wrong! At least she was cheerful today.

Zeke Weasley 07-18-2009 06:44 AM

Zeke raised his hand uncertainly. "I would say maybe Kenaz, professor?" he said, his answer almost a question. "It stands for knowledge, revelation, and the vital fire of life. Knowledge and revelation would help you figure out what to do, and the vital fire of life... well, that part's obvious, right?" He wasn't sure of his answer, but it had sounded good in his head...

Lissy Longbottom 07-18-2009 07:05 AM

Protect him from water? Well, that was just as good! BETTER in fact! "Well that's niceeeeeee!" Jack replied when she said they could protect him from water. Who needed to swim when they were protected from the one thing that could harm them?

Slowly the room started filling up with water around him, but Jack was not scared. The professor just said that the runes could protect him from the water, so he had nothing to fear now. He searched around his pile of runes for a few minutes before finally selecting one that he that would be helpful in this situation.

"Would Fehu be a good rune to use in this situation?" Jack asked, raising his hand and holding up his rune. He grinned at the professor for a few moments before continuing his explaination. "I picked it because it means luck, and I'm going to need all the luck in the world to get out of this flood if I can't swim!" he explained with his broad grin. He was soooooooooooooo clever right now. "All the strength and the world wouldn't help me on that one...anyways, Fehu also means energy, which will also be useful cause running through water is REALLY hard work," he said with a frown. "Finally, it also represents hope and success, which could foreshadow my success at getting out of this flood and to safety!"

TeafortheSoul 07-18-2009 07:23 AM

One rune? Well, since most of the ones Cela'd choose had already been selected, Cel decided to be literal.

http://www.erincraft.net/THE_RUNES_files/runes.11.gif

She pulled her choice out and raised her hand.

"I'd choose Isa and freeeeeeze the water so that you won't drown, professor. At least it would allow you to freeze the situation so that you could stop and reevaluate where you are and have time to think of a really good plan without having to rush." She cheerfully answered and snacked on candy.

She cast a silent aguamenti charm and water began to rise in the class room. You could tell this was clean water... not the dirty water that had been flooding the school. "Alright kids. Pick ONE RUNE to use to help with your survival, and tell me why you chose it. There are many correct answers. Let's go before we drown." She said and clapped her hands twice.

When the door slammed, Anna stopped twirling around in circles and turned towards the professor. She blinked and stared at Professor Lupa when she heard they would be starting the lesson with a flooding. A flooding...as in...the kind that had been terrorizing the school? There'd been grindylows last time, though! Anna felt a wave of panic come on, but it was quickly washed away when the professor assured that they were in no immediate danger. She trusted Professor Lupa, and she believed that the woman truly knew what she was doing. A few seconds later, the area began to fill with a clear, clean body of water.

Before we drown? Yikes! Anna's hand shot into the air faster than it ever had before. "I'd have to say Eihwaz, Professor. A few of the qualities brough forth by this rune are strength, endurance, defense, and protection," she suggested. "I think the four of those combined together can definitely assist us in this flood. We'd need strength to fight off the water and bring ourselves to safety. We'd need endurance to help us stay strong while we battled the flood. Defense, of course, would help us properly defend ourself, and protection pretty much speaks for itself. It would, of course, give us the protection we needed to escape the water."

Uh oh. He may've been in a HAPPY mood now, but Clifford still wasn't a swimmer. And there was water.. water riiising up. OH GAWD! It was impossible to be scared though.. like such a feeling was alien to him at te moment. Strange. But he trusted Professor Loopy. Hehehehe.

"I would choose URUZ, ma'am. Just because... because that is the MANLY rune. Strength and POWER and all that stuff. Gotta come in handy, ain't it?" Giggling, Clifford lowered his hand and splashed water all over Greingoth it in the water.

Crayola 07-18-2009 12:58 PM

FLOOD? She was gonna flood the room? Moody Evangeline wouldn't have liked that, but as it was, psssh, it'd be COOL! Yes, it would. She hadn't had a good swim since summer (in a good, clean water, that was), so maybe she could practise her swimming skills! "You could've warn us, Professor! I could've brought my swimsuit." Evangeline said with an excited giggle as she splashed her hands around in the water that was rising. WEEEEEE!!

Oh, oh, oh, but she didn't want to drown! Removing one hand from the water, Evangeline raised it high in the air. "Eihwaz, Miss! Speed of thought, speed, strength and willingness?" She shook her head and made a 'pffft' sound. "Clearly what we need to survive a flood." Or any other situation, really.

Maybe you can use it to break down the doors or the window, but these floods we've been having, the water doesn't spill from open doors or windows." and she smiled at Clifford. "Uruz is A manly rune... Mannaz is THE manly rune." She corrected.

"Ooooo Yes! Freezing the water will stop, or at the least slow down it's ascention." Alessia said pulling out Isa from her own bag. "Alright..." She said excitedly. "Who knows how to cast a spell with the aid of a rune? How do you so?"

Cassirin 07-18-2009 05:40 PM

Copernicus had NO idea. None. Still, it didn't seem anyone else did and he was feeling pretty darn good about everything, including the fact that Lupa was ruining his third pair of shoes this term. He raised his hand. "Is there some sort of incantation, Professor? Or can you just draw it? I think you should ask Celandine Toussaint, Professor, because she probably knows. She knows everything."

Yes Professor Morgan is indeed lovely, but to make that comment on their homework, and... snub her... was just... well... it hurt her feelings.

Miles sighed. She had obviously not forgiven him. Though really, he hadn't apologized. He wasn't planning on doing it in class though, maybe he'd drop by her office later and grovvel. No. Too over the top. He laughed nervously at her cold comment and smiled awkwardly again. "Hehe. Yes .. uhh." Miles thought it was best to just shut it for now, and only speak when he was spoken too. Sigh ... again.

He was sure Professor Lupa was just as lovely as Professor Morgan.
... If, anyone could be as lovely as Professor Morgan.

As Professor Lupa cast the agumenti charm, Miles panicked. NOO! Now she was planning on drowning him! And everyone else. He actually didn't kmow the answer, just clung to his bag of runes as if they were the key to his life. He didn't want to drown! Miles raised his hand in panic. "Do you point your wand to the rune?!" That was the only answer that really came to mind.

Herminny knew this answer thinking, did'nt I learn theis last year but thought whatever as she raised her hand and answered saying, "You call upon the power of the god/goddess of that rune and then concentrate and imagine the power of that rune in you're head as you cast the spell"

Waterloo 07-18-2009 10:11 PM

Uruz. Mannaz. Thurisaz.

Hmmmm. He was going to have to make a note of all these MANLY MAN runes. Ancient Runes wouldn't be the same without them. These were the cool runes. Yup.

Clifford raised his hand when Professor Loopy asked another question. Casting a spell with the aid of a rune? "Is it with one o' those freaky chant things? Y'know.. like OOGA BOOGA OOOH OOH RAAWWR!" Yeah. Or something along those lines.

Oh blush.

ZOMG what if she answered wrong??!? What would he think then?

Cela looked down at her feet (which she'd had the presence of mind to cast impervius on) and took a moment before raising her hand to continue with her answering.

"Professor? You can use the Galdr chant for that rune or the combination of runes that you want to invoke. Anna and I, when we did our assignment for Fehu? We drew the rune in red wand paint on our wands and it effected the strength and cast of our spells once we'd used the Fehu Galdr. So I guess there are two ways; we could try the Isa Galdr to invoke the rune," And Cela still had Isa in her hand so, "which is isa isa isa, i i i i i i i i i, i i i i i i s s s s s s, s s s s s s i i i i i i, i i i i i i i i i.... for the Isa rune, or we could mark it on our wands and cast ice charms and have our spell effects be stronger." It felt weirdly natural saying the Galdr chants now for some reason.

"YES! Miss Know-it-all-Toussaint," Alessia thought it was the funniest thing! "You use the Galdr. The chant... isa isa isa, i i i i i i i i i, i i i i i i s s s s s s, s s s s s s i i i i i i, i i i i i i i i i " She shivverred and realized the water was at her waist. "Alright Students... The water that surrounds you will react to you spellcasting, but not to others... Show me how you can stop the rise of the water around you... and don't forget to cast Imperviu around you so you don't freeze in the water."

dan arjay 07-19-2009 02:34 AM

Daniel was still laughing his heart out when he noticed his waist being wet with the water. Then he saw that the whole room was waist deep with water. He grabbed a rune from his bag and then, luckily getting the one he had wanted:

http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/o.../n-sowiloe.gif

He held it in his wand hand. Called to the god Baldur. And chants, sowilo sowilo sowilo, s s s s s s s s s, s s s o o o l l l, su sa si se so, sul sal sil sel sol, us as is es os, si se su sa su, s s s s s s s s s

He then pointed his wand towards himself and muttered the Impervius charm on himself to prevent the things to come. This should make my protection strong, and now for the water problem.

What spell to use to stop the water from rising? he thought.

MarcyMoo 07-19-2009 02:53 AM

Lucy smiled. She had been wrong, but who cared! She certainly didn't! Everyone got an answer wrong every once a while, right? Well now was her time to be wrong. Lucy looked down at the water to see it up to her waist line. Well, looked like it was time to use her survival rune skills to save her from drowning. She put Nauthiz back in her bag of runes and pulled out isa instead.

http://www.mysticgames.com/images/runes/Isa.jpg

Lucy then looked towards Profesor Lupa for further directions. She listened, a smile on her face the whole time. Why was she so cheerful today? Oh well, who cared. When Lupa was done explaining what to do, Lucy cast the impervius charm around her so she wouldn't be frozen along with the water. Then she put the rune card in her wand arm (right) and concentrated on the rune carefully. Then she began to chant. Normally she would have been a little embarrassed, but she was to happy to be embarrassed. "Isa, isa, isa, i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s s a a a a a a a a." She said.

Anna Banana 07-19-2009 09:27 AM

Thinking it'd be fun to twirl around and around a few more times, Anna giggled and raised her arms high. Just as she made a move to turn around, though, she suddenly became aware that the water which had been casted into the area was now level with her waist. Not wanting to lose any of her valuable runes, she clutched the bag close to her and thought carefully...and quickly...about what she should do. She reached into her bag and pulled out the Algiz rune.

http://i404.photobucket.com/albums/p...oads/algiz.gif

"elhaz elhaz elhaz, z z z z z z z z z, uz az iz ez uz, oz ez iz az uz, z z z z z z z z z, (m m m m m m m m m)...," she chanted, the rune held high in her wand arm. With that done, she drew her wand..."Impervius!" she called out, ensuring, hopefully, that she'd remain waterproof. Her eyes darted around and around the room, taking in the ever-growing amount of water. She needed a spell to stop the continuous rise of the water. "Impedimenta!" she called out, casting the Impediment Jinx on the water. It was said to be able to stop an object or slow it down, so hopefully that would do the trick.

As Professor Lupa gave Miles yet another cold reply, Miles couldn't help but giver her a huge big smile. This sudden wash of happiness that overcame him made him forget about the homework and the compliment, and even Professor Morgan. Oh weeeeell, so he'd gotten that one wrong, but it didn't bother him AT ALL. Hehe.

Miles laughed as he watched people chanting like silly billy's. He drew out the rune which he had, which was Isa, and started to chant with much enthusiasm as he could. WHEEEE!

"Isa, isa, isa, i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s a a a a a a a a i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s a a a a a a a a!" Miles chanted, trying not to giggle. As long as it would slow the water down, he would be happy. Wait ... he was already happy!

What spell to use to stop the water from rising? he thought.

"No No...." She said rushing to put and end of his spell. "Master Kaiser... We are trying to freeze the water with Isa! Though... using sowilo, and the power of the sun, you could evaporate the water, but now it's nonproductive to what we're doing, how can we freeze the water while you are melting the ice?" He put sowilo back in his bag. "Isa, Master Kaiser, Isa..."

What was with Gryffindors? She basically swan by the head girl's side. "Prefect Greingoth, we are attempting to FREEZE the water, not shield it!" Seriously, didn't anyone pay attention anymore? Even the Head Girl! "Isa, Prefect Greingoth, ISA!"

Lucy looked down at the water to see it up to her waist line. Well, looked like it was time to use her survival rune skills to save her from drowning. She put Nauthiz back in her bag of runes and pulled out isa instead.

"Miss Porter, Good job... the water around you is starting to freeze, keep it up... you need to call upon the powers of the Norse Mythological god Heimdall and goddess Skadi."

"Good, Master Parker," she said trying not to make it sound too sweet, but she was impressed with the Slytherins in her class... Both of them pulled the correct rune because they paid attention. "Don't forget to concentrate on the rune and call upon the mythological gods."

ooc: you don't have to go finding runes, I have a School Rune Set Thread for you to use if you'd like.

Celandine had been humming cheerfully (of course), still holding the Isa rune, that she'd already drawn. Confidently and cheerfuly (still), she repeated the Galdr chant concentrating cheerfully (yep). "Isa isa isa, i i i i i i i i i, i i i i i i s s s s s s, s s s s s s i i i i i i, i i i i i i i i i."

Hmmm.

"Excuse me, Professor Lupa?" Cela raised her hand (The one that wasn't cheerfully holding the Isa rune).

Daniel returned the sowilo rune into the bag, and then he heard the Professor called out, he raised his hand and cheerfully (actually laughing) when he said, "Professor, I just tapped in the sowilo rune to give success to our plan." he said and then giggled. The cheering charm is definitely in effect still.

He then grabbed the Isa rune.

He then started to call Verdandi and chanted, "isa isa isa, i i i i i i i i i
i i i i i i s s s s s s, s s s s s s i i i i i i, i i i i i i i i i"
he then pointed his wand to the water and cast an ice to freeze the water.

Satine reached into her bag and pulled out the Isa rune and looked at it for a moment...she had to admit that of all the runes this one was pretty...well...boring looking...but it must be the one they needed so she followed the professor's instructions on invoking it.

She happily stopped giggling and focused on the chanting, which normally would've embarrassed her being a first year but she just was so happy to do anything today.

"Isa, Isa, Isa, iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssss sssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
" She repeated waiting for something amazing to happen.

ZOMG! Finally! Even though she had first felt really silly saying those Galdr things, now she thought they were BEYOND cool. honestly, they were awesome and Evangeline splashed about in the water, feeling happy as if the world was perfect.

It was perfect! HEhe.

Not even Lupa's words of 'drowning' could worry her, and Evangeline lazily opened the runes bag and rummaged about until she found the rune they were meant to be using. OOOH! But she had to cast the Impervius charm first! Someone managing to hold the Isa rune in her hand aswell as the bag of runes and her wand in other hand, Evangeline said. "Impervius!" Immediately she felt the tingly sensation rushing through her, letting her know that she was now protected from the water and ice. Gladr time! She giggled, allowing herself to look around as she felt the water reaching her waist, listening to everybody saying their Galdr. FUN!

"Isa, isa, isa, i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s a a a a a a a a i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s a a a a a a a a" WEEEEEEEEEE!!
