Celandine turned in her seat and beamed at Copernicus for a moment before facing front again and raising her hand.

"Fehu can symbolise ownership, professor."

Mmmm. she liked peppermint. Celandine placed one on her tongue and smiled happily.

Jack raised his hand. "Erm, because it means wealth, like you said, I believe that Fehu also means reward. Cause well--wealth is often a reward for hard work." he explained. He tried to remember if he had indeed remembered that from his textbook--he could very well be making it up. Runes always made his head spin.

Fyo raised his hand.

"It also means nourishment, professor," he said politely. "And in a way, that ties up with the other meanings - generosity and wealth. Because wealth helps people nourish as individuals, and generosity - in the long term - as a community."

Herminny raised her hand and said, "Fehu also could mean new beginnings".

Well, not really, as she was obviously distracted, doodling on a corner of her parchment. But Professor Lupa had asked another question, and since she'd been quiet throughout the entire lesson, the sixth year raised her hand, "It means Nourishment, too, right?" Wrong, probably wrong. Lupa had said it had nothing to do with food. And nourishment involved food. Right?

Eh, whatever. She was too distracted.

Copernicus raised his hand again. Hmm, this was a tricky one. "Professor, could it also refer to the effort that goes into wealth?"

Chris raised his hand with what he thought would be a good meaning of Fehu. "Professor could Fehu symbolize instruction or teaching. Because if you have cattle you must train them right?" He thought it was a good connection.

Abby raises her hand. "It also means Fulfillment of Goals. Sorry about being so long winded professor."

"Fehu also mean Good fortune, professor?" Sydney said raising her hand slightly & hoping it to be correct this time ... She never failed at anything..neeeever! Luckily, Prof. Lupa wasn't making her feel nervous, but BunBunz scared her a bit in her first herbology lesson...

Daniel raised his hand, "Professor, Fehu is the god Frey's rune. Frey is the god of fertility, thus Fehu means unselfish abundance, enlightening your path and also the path of the others." he said. At least that was what he had read on one of the Ancient Runes book at home.

"Could it be...some sort of..." Em said, as he raised his hand, "...internal and material wealth, both meaning that surrounding you could mean that part of it, yourself? Like being generous, comes from your feelings towards others, which means, sharing, not being selfish..." He ended, kind of feeling weird after thinking sort of hard about his own mind while that mess of heart happened.

Jotting down the correct answer on her parchment, she couldn't help but still feel pleased that her answer had been a 'good try'. Sure, if this had been a few years ago she would have been depressed that the answer she had offered wasn't spot on but her time at Hogwarts had softened her up a bit. Plus she now knew that the best way to learn was from mistakes and it doesn't hurt to make them once in a while.

So... in this case, the Peppermints symbolise the wealth, and they keep reappearing to indicate that, um... as they belong to you, you're wealthy, but they will eventually stop appearing... because... all welath ends in the end, there is a limit as to how much a person can have?" she guessed, looking at the next sweet which had just taken residence on her desk top.

Abby raises her hand again. "I believe the words I'm looking for are realized ambition."

Anna listened carefully to what her fellow classmates had to say, then she jotted down a few notes about Fehu and several of its meanings. When she was done, she raised her hand and said, "Professor, Fehu represents the phrase 'you reap what you sow,' so to speak. Adding to what my classmates have already said, Fehu represents luck, specifically the luck you bring about as a result of hard work and dedication. Maybe that's why the candy keeps coming back...it's representing the fact that what we get out of a situation comes from the work we put into it. The candy represents the rewards or the luck we've earned."

"Good answer... you two, and not a textbook one. It ties with cattle as well... why do you have cattle? For food." She smiled.

"Creation, yes... Very good. I'm sooo glad you all are doing so well. Anyone else?" She said looking around.

"Not exactly... though that is a very good deduction. Instruction, or knowledge and training is actually Kenaz, which we will discuss in a future class." She said smiling.

"Success, yes, Miss Wright." She said winking at her.

"Right... Luck. Fehu is indeed good fortune Miss Carrington." She said skipping along the side of the desks.

"Fertility, very good Master Kaiser!" She said smiling. "In your next herbology class bring a Fehu rune with you and see how well your soil will take to your seeds." Well, if that Rabid Bunny Woman taught Herbology correctly... no matter, she wasn't going to tell the children she couldn't stand that... that... creature!

Alessia blinked and then blinked again... then she smiled sweetly... "Yes... Success of any kind..." ... Ravenclaws were cute. Always so... complicated.

"... No, Master Carden," she hated that he was wrong... "Ansuz is good health, and in some ways Uruz and Sowilo as well..."

"Actually, Master Kettleburn, That is actually a Merkstave or reversed meaning..." she said and turned to the class. "Can anyone tell me what a reversed or Merkstave meaning it? and what the difference between the two is? This goes back to last term's classes if you recall, or you can always look in your book."

Jack raised his hand and replied, 'When the tile is chosen upside-down, or reversed, the meaning is the opposite. Good health becomes health problems.' Again with the big smile.

Chris decided to make a guess. "Um professor Lupa, are you referring to the effort you get out of wealth?" he just said the reverse of what Cope did.

Raising her hand Cela answered, "Merkstave is drawing a rune reversed when doing a reading. Not all runes can be reversed because the symbol is the same upside down as it is right side up, but they can still lie in opposition to another rune as far as a negative meaning goes. It doesn't necessarily mean the opposite to the regular meaning either and it isn't completely negative since you can always learn a lesson from hardship."

Anna smiled when the professor replied to her comment about Fehu. She'd really learned a lot from Professor Lupa, and she'd come a long way in a subject she thought she was doomed in. Raising her hand again, Anna said, "Merkstave translates to mean 'dark stick', and it has a dark meaning, too. A reversed or Merstave rune isn't necessarily the exact opposite in meaning, but rather...hmm...it has a more negative meaning, so to speak."

Chris Potter realized that his answer must have been wrong and decided to change it, "Um professor may I make a correction to my answer before? I think that it means the effort that you now have to do since you hsve wealth. The opposite of the good verion, just getting to sit back and enjoy it." he knew that sounded better.

Cedric raised his hand,"Merkstave bring about the opposite of the rune's abilities"Cedric answered hoping that even his answer was short but the exact answer.
