| | Advanced Arithmancy Lesson 2: Core Companions
Though the doors to the Arithmancy classroom are open, the candles are not lit and the room appears somewhat dark. The curtains are drawn over the windows and only minimal light infiltrates the room's shade. Professor Shackleton is no where to be seen, though there is a message on the door which reads: Quote:
Make your way inside and have a seat. Please watch your step in the darkness. On each desk is an empty drawstring bag in one of the following colors: pink, purple, turquoise, or orange. Please do not tamper with the bags. We will need them for this lesson.
OOC: Please specify within your post which color bag is at your desk. This will make a difference during the lesson... Also, this lesson is only for 4th-7th year students. |

Purple team gets one correct answer and has one more opportunity to find the number three most popular answer. I'll repeat the question, what are the best ways to describe a 4 Maturity Number?"

Lucy was a little disappointment for getting the answer wrong, but raised her hand to try and answer again for purple. "Steadfast?" She asked hesitantly.

Raising her hand for turquoise, Anna said, "What about high standards and expectations?" That was one of the three remaining possible answers. Hopefully she'd chosen the correct one.

"Turquoise team guesses the number three answer and earns themselves 100 points! What a steal!" Professor Shackleton clapped before giving the Turquoise team their coin with the number 100 on it.
She explained to the class as a whole, "OK class, I think we've had enough fun for today's lesson. We'll move the Rational Thought Number to next lesson. But before we discuss next lesson, and we do need to discuss the next lesson, let's tally up our points for this lesson.
"In fourth place, the Turquoise team with 100 points. In third place, the Purple team with 192 points. In second place, the Orange team with 251 points. And in first place, with a whopping 300 points, the Piiiiiiiink team!!!"
Professor Shackleton shuffled over to the closet in her classroom and rummaged through some things. "For the all the teams, I have..." and at this point, Macadrian stepped back from the closet with four large bags in hand, "some goodies from Hogsmeade's own Honeydukes Candy Shop! There's an assortment of fudge, Coconut Ice, Drooble's Best Blowing Gum, Toothflossing Stringmints, Licorice Wands, Chocolate Frogs and Sugar Quills! One bag for each team, and you can all split them however you choose amongst your teammates! So, one person from each team come on up and get your parting gifts!"
Professor Shackleton rested the bags on her desk and headed back to her closet, extracting from inside it another bag, "And this extra grand prize goes to the Pink team! Inside this bag is an assortment of goods from Diagon Alley, including a number of items from Weasleys Wizard Wheezes, Scribbulus Everchanging Inks, and gift certificates to Florean Fortescue's! Pink team, come up and get your prize!"

Fully expecting yet another strike, Anna was pleasantly surprised to hear that she'd actually guessed correctly and snagged one hundred points for the turquoise team! She happily accepted the coin she was given, placing it in her otherwise empty bag while she listened to the professor announce the winners and distribute the prizes. Anna perked up at the mention of all the candy she'd receive as a member of the turquoise team, the team that had unfortunately placed last but still won an amazing amount of candy.
Standing from her seat, she headed to the front of the room where the bag for turquoise sat...just waiting on her...oh, and the rest of her teammates, of course. "Thank you, Professor Shackleton. Fun lesson...," she remarked. She smiled at the professor before turning and heading back to her seat, where she emptied the contents of the bag so she and her teammates could begin distributing the candy.

Pink team, come up and get your prize!" Okay. It was official. Dominic Denton was completely irritated and it was probably stupid because the questions were not easy ones. But team turquoise snagged that 100 points right from his grasp. True he had not been paying attention but still. Sigh.
Class was over. At least they didn't end in last place; though CANDY as a reward!? Pfft. As if the kids at Hogwarts really needed more sugar. If it was up to him then he would ban the wretched substance from the corridors and backpacks of everyone. It just rotted your teeth anyway.
Looking at his teammates and then back at the front with the four large bags of candy, the sixth year approached his head of house as the purple team representative to collect the gift of sugar for his team. "I don't really like sugary substances." He told the three Slytherin girls on his team as he dumped the contents on the table before them, frowning at its contents. No lemondrops. Coconut ice wasn't bad though, he thought recalling the treat Cel-an-dine had shared last term in Kapoor's office. "But if i had to select one item from the bag, then I suppose the coconut ice will do fine."

She skipped up to the front of the class to get the bag for the pink team. "Oh that was soooo fun professor! Even if we hadn't got candy and stuff for pirzes!"
While she was excited about the candy, she passed that bag to Clifford straight away and got all excited about the Diagon Alley stuff. "ZOMG we have to divide this stuff up now. ICECREAM VOUCHERS!" She waved them around, "Colour changing iiiiiiiinks!" She bounced happily and sat down

There he'd been, grossed out that he'd gona and sat at a table with a PINK bag.. but now.. WOOOOOT!! Bouncing in excitement, Clifford gladly took the bag of candy goodies Celandine had thrust in his arms. "I don't care about the vouchers," he beamed, licking his lips and peeking inside the bag. Giving him the bag had been a baaad, baaad move.

While the students enjoyed their goodies, Professor Shackleton made an announcement about the next, and final, lesson of the term. "OK class, so before I give you your homework and dismiss you, I'd like to share with you my thoughts on the next lesson. I would like to have two, maybe three, students conduct the teaching of our next lesson, with me of course here to clarify and answer any questions that you may have.
"The next lesson will be on the Rational Thought Number and Bridge Numbers. If there are students interested in teaching a component of the next lesson, please contact me as soon as possible with your ideas or an outline of a lesson plan for the piece you'd like to teach. Again, anyone interested can teach either the Rational Thought Number or one or both of the Bridge Numbers. You are free to teach it pretty much however you'd like, within reason of course, as long as you inform me of how you plan to do so very early. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them now or find me later.
"And with that out of the way, here is your homework, due in one week's time." With a flourish of her wand, the following appeared on the board: Quote:

3. Analyze your Maturity Number. What do you think this means for your midlife? Does the path you're on now seem like it may lead you to this Maturity Number? (3 points) OOC: Any student interesting in teaching part of the next lesson would need to be available Saturday and/or Sunday July 25-26th (this weekend). Please PM me ASAP with the part of the lesson you'd like to teach and HOW you'd like to teach it. I will choose from amongst the volunteers and notify you. If there are any questions, please contact me via PM.
