| | Advanced Arithmancy Lesson 1: The Core Review Professor Shackleton sat behind her desk, twisting her ring around and around her finger, occasionally stopping to stare at the diamond for a moment before resuming the twisting. With a lot on her mind and hundreds of things to plan, she was a bit distracted before the lesson. But she needed to get her head in the game and give her full attention to her students. And she'd do that... just as soon as one showed up.
OOC: This lesson is for 4th-7th year students ONLY. Any students in 1st-3rd year are not permitted to post in this thread. |

This path is one of aid and service, and once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - achieving balance between giving and receiving. You're a born counselor - sympathetic and caring - which makes others seek you out for advice. Career/vocation options include any job in the service industry where you can make life more comfortable, easy, and luxurious for others, including medicine, decorating, beauty products, training animals, teaching, and counseling.
I have much responsibility at home, my only family is my godmother Gabrielle and it is hard for only person to care for the home. I have hopes of counseling into my future. I have been interested in it for all of summer while doing programs. I am curious for the path life will take for me and optimistic it will be a thing I enjoy.

Celandine responded. It was a thoughtful 'ooh'. "I'd have to look through my journal at the other stuff I've calculated, I think. I don't remember anything being particularly common or noticeable though. Not in my pinnacles or challenges..." She paused trying to think about the other things she'd learned from Professor Shackleton. | JGL ♥ | Wifey + SexyCPR = RAWR. | Co-Inceptor♥ | CHLOCHLO! | Rollie = My Ship Miles rolled his eyes a little. How many times had he calculated his life path number and forgotten it? It had to be 5 times now, but he continued to write it out again. 10th December 2050.
1+0+1+2+2+0+5+0 = 11.
1+1 = 2. Quote:
TWO (2): Your path will lead you to seek balance and harmony in all that you do and you'll learn the benefits of cooperation and compromise, as well as patience and peacekeeping. Once you've incorporated these traits, you'll move on to the next phase - drawing others together. You were born to relate to others - and make certain that others relate well to each other as well. But be sure to remember not to ignore yourself and your own needs while you're making sure everyone else is cooperating. People with 2 Life Paths are extremely sensitive that they need to be careful not to become the world's doormat. Career/vocation options include jobs that allow you to mediate, negotiate, take care of details, be in a supportive role, or gather facts.
"Awww." Miles grinned at the description of himself. "I think of others needs. I'm so nice." - he wasn't being modest. He frowned a little at the 'extremely sensitive' part, he wasn't THAT sensitive, just a teeny weeny bit. So the description was sort of right, it couldn't be right for everyone could it. "And I am NOT the world's doormat! This is just insulting!" Miles put his pen down and folded his arms. Though he was quite interested to see who was also 'extremely sensitive' and 'the world's doormat'. Pfft. "Anyone with a life path number of two?" He asked, a little grumpily. |

| ♫ ♥ Where are my garters?! / hyphens-are-cool / THE NORTH GATE ♥ ♫ Helena's hand seemed just a blur as it whizzed over her parchment, performing the calculations necessary to find her life path number. When she finished, she appraised her work and assessed her number. Quote:
Birthday - 10/14/2052
1+0=1
1+4=5
2+0+5+2=9
1+5+9=15
1+5=6
Curious, Helena quickly snatched her book out of her school bag on the floor and flipped to chapter three, thumbing through the pages of it until she came to the assessment for the number 6. Quote:

Teaching or counseling? Those didn't suit her taste at all. Sighing very quietly, she wrote at the bottom of her parchment: Quote:
Disagrees strongly with career suggestions - all other parts of path seem accurate.
She looked up from her parchment, frowning slightly at the teacher's words to work together. As much as she'd rather work alone, Helena was trying to be more social, so in a very small voice she said, Anyone a six?

| The Kisapaths | Sila!Roti | -2 | TouchableHair | ToiletPaperGuy | QueenOfConfusion Nancy had simply stared at the professor and her jelly slugs over the last few minutes, with a rather blank look on her face. Even though, she normally really liked Arithmancy - and now she was even allowed to attend the Advanced Arithmancy Courses - the 14 year old found it almost impossible to concentrate on what her classmates and Professor Shackleton were telling them. Too much had happened recently. Starting with Steven and Paris breaking up and... Eep! What were they supposed to do? Why was everybody screaming random numbers around the classroom? Was that a new game? After a few moments of simply looking at the others with her brow slightly furrrowed in confusion Nancy's face was suddenly brightened by a dawning look as somehow she heard somebody saying the words Life Path Number. Oh, she'd heard about that before, maybe they were supposed to calculate their own.
A quick peek at a nearby student's parchment confirmed her assumption so Nancy quickly grabbed her own quill and started to calculate: Quote:

Plymouth had his quill posed to write all her stuff down. Nancy was still trying to figure out what exactly they were supposed to do, as in, what she was supposed to do with all those random numbers shouted at her. Huh? Then all of a sudden she heard a boy's voice scream, no more like squeal something about him having an 8 as well. Well, awesome. The 14 year old raised an eyebrow in amusement at the boy's happy outburst about his number being 8. Okay...
Giving him an broad grin Nancy turned slightly in her chair so they were now able to work together properly as they were now obviously partners. Partners who were supposed to do what exactly? "Yeah, Eights are great, aren't they?" The 14 year old replied shaking her head in amusement before opening her mouth again to introduce herself, "So I'm-" Oh, he apparently wasn't exactly interested in her name or anything as he simply started babbling on about...stuff.
...and babbling on...
...and babbling on...
Oh, he was finished telling her about his mum and May and flowers. Wait, flowers?! Nancy blinked at him a few times before replying, "Uhm...well, I'm not too fond of all that green stuff, you know..." Or were flowers something different than the stuff they dealt with in Herbology? "I was born in December...the 2nd...sooo...uhm...do you think you'll actually become a leading person like it says in the textbook description?" |

You have to like green." Duh. "Maybe though... maybe you do like green because you were born in December. How are you feelings on red? Santa was probably born in December and he clearly has an affinity for read. Or white? Either of those strike your fancy?"
Plymouth then considered her question. "I think so. I like people and I like to talk, so being a leader seems right. I'm probably going to take over the Tent or be a Sea Captain. How about you? If you add 1 + 2 for December, you get 3. Maybe that MEANS something." |

"I was talking about, you know, green stuff as in Herbology-green-icky-plant-thingy-stuff." Yeah, awesome explanation. "And besides...I afraid of snakes. Oh my, I'm in the wrong house!" Now it was Nancy's turn to gasp - rather fakely- at this "realization". Red? The 14 year old blinked a few times as she considered his question, started chuckling though at the boy's Santa comment. "Hmm...well, I like Santa so I guess I should like red as well...or white...I prefer blue, though, to be honest. Which color do May-children prefer?" She asked with a grin while listening to his answer to her prior question. "Oh, wow, you've got your future all planned, eh? Me? Well, I'm not so sure if I can picture myself in one of those biiiig, important positions. Although..." Nancy trailed off as picture of her seated in a huge high chair, with smaller, less important people bringing her everything her heart desired. A grin crept across her lips at that image in her head and Nancy simply resumed to sit there looking absentmindedly at the desk, until she was suddenly distracted once again by the boy's excited voice. "Yeah, maybe it does...only what?" Whatever he was talking about. |

Professor Shackleton wished she had more time to give the students for this exercise, but they still had a great deal to cover and little time to do it in. In an effort to resume the lesson, Shackleton cleared her throat loudly, "Ahem. I'm afraid we need to move on to the next item, which is the Destiny Number. But don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to practice with breaking down the Life Path Number in the homework." As if they'd be worried about not getting more work. Yeah right. "So, what information does the Destiny Number provide to us and how do we calculate it?"

We find it out by figuring out the value of each of our name, using the Pythagorean chart, and then adding the reduced total of each name - first, middle(s), and last, then reduce that number to its single digit root number." |

Cela raised her hand,“The Destiny Number, also known as the Expression Number, is the core number that describes the talents and attitudes at your disposal in this lifetime. It tells us what our purpose is and indicates opportunities for success, as well as indicating what career path would be a natural expression of your life path. I kind of think it’s the most important one, Professor, on account of the information you use to calculate it doesn’t change unless you change your name, so your destiny number is a constant in applying arithmancy numbers to your life. You calculate it by assigning the appropriate numbers from the chart to your name, figuring each name separately and reducing as you go.”

"Very nice. You make Slytherin proud, Prefect Green. Have a Jelly Slug." Professor Shackleton underhanded the squishy candy to Evangeline before addressing another student. Quote:

You calculate it by assigning the appropriate numbers from the chart to your name, figuring each name separately and reducing as you go.” "Ah, I'd say you're half correct, but you seem to be incorporating some of the qualities of the Life Path Number too. For example, the Life Path Number really is better at describing our talents in this lifetime and detailing what career or vocation we should pursure. However, you are correct in saying that it indicates our opportunities for success and that it is a constant in Arithmancy. Oh, and also how to calculate it. So you get a Jelly Slug too." Professor Shackleton wound up like a muggle major league baseball player and tossed the Jelly Slug toward Cela.
Addressing the entire class once more, "This number tells you what you'll be most successful in doing in this lifetime, what your best direction and major accomplishments are or will be. The Destiny Number describes what must be explored, developed, and embraced for your soul to grow to its full potential and for you to be whole. "As you classmates mentioned, the Destiny Number is calculated from the letters in your birth name. Now, there is often some confusion pertaining to the name that should be used in this calculation. The name on your birth certificate is generally considered the name you should use when figuring your Arithmancy profile. If you were adopted and given a new name and you know your original birth name, use the original name for your profile. You will, however, still want to figure a second profile for your adopted name. With the two profiles, you can piece who you really are. In this case, consider the original name the true essence of who you are and the adopted name the energy you drew to you to work within this lifetime. If you were adopted and have only your adopted name to work with, your Destiny Number will indicate the type of energy and influence your adopted name has brought you in this life."
Professor Shackleton's throat began feeling a bit parched, so before going on she sipped from a cup of water on her desk, then continued, "If you are a Jr. or a or the Third, ignore these in your Destiny Number calculation. Lastly, not that this applies to any of you just yet, but married names are not figured in the Destiny Number. There is a significance of married names that we will not discuss in this lesson, though if you're interested you're certainly welcome to inquire in my office." Macadrian paused to give the students ample time to jot down notes.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Professor Shackleton posted the following on the board while the students took notes: Quote: Steps for Finding your Destiny Number
1. Write out your birth name and assign the appropriate numbers to each letter.
2. Add each name separately; you may get a double-digit sum.
3. Reduce any double-digit sums you get for each name to its single-digit root number, but take note of any double-digit sums that equal a Master Number or Karmic Number. (NOTE: We will not be studying Karmic Numbers this term, but you should be aware of their potential existence within the calculations of the Destiny Number.)
4. Add the reduced numbers for your first, second, and third names together. (If you have multiple middle names, be sure to include those too!)
5. Reduce the double-digit sum to a single root number - unless your result is a Master Number (11, 22, or 33).
"Please read the instructions on the board and calculate your own Destiny Number. It is easy to make mistakes in adding all the numbers from your name together. I know - I've made mistakes myself! For this reason, be sure to check your addition more than once! "You can read the meaning of your Destiny Number in the textbook. If you're really interested, you can also look to see if your Destiny Number is a Karmic Number (10, 13, 14, 16, or 19), though you're not required to do so.
"Again, the two main things to remember - add each name separately. Each name in your birth name has meaning and it's important to preserve the number of each name. Also, once you know each name's number, reduce them and add across. You may begin."
Professor Shackleton remembered something she wanted to write down, so she hurried to her desk and made a note. Afterward she announced, "Oh, and a bit off-topic, though I'm sure you're interested, so far house points have been awarded to Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin, with Slytherin taking a clear lead. Who's gonna step up their game?" Professor Shackleton smirked as she jokingly teased the students.

Karma giggled slightly. Karmic numbers - that was part of her name. Ohh, sometimes things like that just never got old.
When asked about stepping up the points, Karma raised her hand. "Well Professor Shackleton, give us a few more questions and Ravenclaw will be ahead," she said, smirking.
Ahh, enough rivalry. Time to WORK. Quote:

Creative? Joy? Gift with words? "Professor," the Head Boy spoke up, hand in the air. "My numbers all seem to say the same kinda thing! I mean, they all tell me I'm creative and stuff!" Wait, that must mean they're right.. right? He had no clue.

Lyra turned her parchment over and did as the professor asked, starting with her short, full name. Quote:
Lyra = 3 + 7 + 9 + 1 = 20 = 2 + 0 = 2
Noir = 5 + 6 + 9 + 9 = 29 = 2 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4
Quote:
FOUR (4): Your mission in life is to build something of lasting value. Your purpose is to be realistic and hard-working, all while keeping order and decorum so that security is assured. Learning to express traditional values and being loyal and constant will move you toward your destiny. You're destined for managing and methodizing. Create the foundation and build on it.
Now she hoped she did this one right as there was one little thing she was not certain about, but everything looked okay.

| ♫ ♥ Where are my garters?! / hyphens-are-cool / THE NORTH GATE ♥ ♫ Helena wrote down what she thought she might forget and quickly set to work on finding out her destiny number. Quote:

1+5+5+5+2+2+5 = 25

3+9+1+5+3+5+7 = 33
3+3 = 6

2+2 = 4
She assessed the work before her and frown slightly. Nurturing was totally and utterly wrong. Everything else was rather.... unexciting. She quickly managed a smile on her face though as she finished up and set her quill down in case the teacher was looking.

That seemed to go right along with her life path number's influence of helping and inspiring people. It just seemed so cool to her, how all of the numbers meshed and became something else, almost like divination but more...solid.
She was really starting to love Arithmancy.
