The dueling practice arena is a large, long room with high ceilings in the castle. It is lit with magical fire sconces and a few fireplaces with charmed screens to protect students from magical accidents. The arena houses several dueling pistes, each on a raised platform and surrounded by spectator benches. The pistes are covered by purple carpeting printed with phases of the moon marking dueling positions; this carpeting is scuffed, scorched, stained and worn from many years of use in spirited duels. The air carries a perpetually scorched, bitter scent from years of spells and incantations being thrown about in the room.

Please feel free to use the practice arena at your leisure to sharpen your wandwork and dueling skills, but keep to The Dueling Arena Rules!

Plymouth ran and jumped onto the back of his little brother Copernicus. "HighHoSilverrrrr! 'urry up. Let's get this rolling." Plymouth had his wand out and ready and was using it as a "whip" to get Copernicus to hurry.

This was behavior reserved only for people related to Plymouth - or sort of related, anyway.

"Hope that old man ain't around to watch me beat you, stepbrother."

"I hope you can hear the spells I cast around your increasing ear hair," Copernicus dragged Plymouth to the middle of the room. It was nice to have someone act so... familiar, even if Plymouth was sort of a wild fiend. "You know how to do this?"

"It's not SO bad anymore. Just braidable," Plymouth said as he slid down and hurried over to take his place. "On your mark, son-of-the-man-my-mom-married!" Plymouth's wand went over his head and his other hand sort of rested on his hip.

No doubts, he looked ridiculous. It just helped with his balance. Don't ask.

"Aguamenti ," Plymouth shouted, sending a strong stream of water towards pretty boy Kettleburn.

"That is NOT how you..." Copernicus began in protest, but he was cut off by a stream of water to the face. He gurgled helplessly until he could spit the water out. "Not how you duel. We bow. We take our paces. Stupefy!"

"HEHE!" Plymouth giggled loudly. He was jumping around like a bunny with that non-wand hand still on his hip. Really, it did help with the balance. During his jumping spree - he somehow missed Copernicus's spell. It wasn't talent, just sheer dumb luck. "HOO HOO! Miss! AND, FYI, no one that will duel you for REAL will bow or wait till three. Don't be a pansy."

He jumped around some more, back and left and right and with a little twist sent a ridiculous spell "Abeo Hartorqueo !!!"

ooc: Which is "Change hairstyle". Ridiculous. Plymouth is ridiculous. We're hoping/shooting for Annie-Style fro.

Copernicus was just staring in blank awe at his stepbrother, and he raised his wand without thinking. "Protego," he cast, throwing up a shield between the two of them. It bounced the ridiculous whatever spell back toward Plymouth, and left Copernicus to just keep on staring.

"CHEAT-" Plymouth started, but had to stop as his own spell came back and hit him square in the face. He could feel his normally puffy (and fantastic) hair shrinking - no, not shrinking - TWIRLING. Plymouth squealed like a girl as his hair wound into tight little curls.

"Fall down and hurt yourself! Stupefy, stupefy, stupefy!!" Plymouth waved his wand around wildly, hoping at least one would buy him time to think of a counter spell for his completely RIDICULOUS hair. "CURLS! AHH!"

Abby hears noises from the room marked dueling arena on the door. She sneaks in and watches the two boys trying to duel. Abby remembers one of them from History of Magic class. She's never seen the one with the hair problem before.

Copernicus tucked and rolled, narrowly being hit by the randomly shot spells. "We're going to work on your technique," he lay in a messy pile on the floor, all limbs and exhaustion. "Petrificus Totalus." He just wanted Plymouth to hold still long enough to catch his breath.

Plymouth was too concerned about his hair to block the spell. It was probably something weenie-ish coming from Copernicus anyway. Plymouth had his wand to his hair trying different things when the spell hit him. Plymouth fell like a ton of bricks to the arena floor.

"Pardon?" Copernicus turned his head to look at the girl who was talking to him, and then refocused on the duel. Never lose your focus, Teapot, Copernicus recalled. He scrabbled across the floor and put his wand to Plymouth. "I'll let you up if you concede. Finite incantatem."

"I'll concede if you get me a BAG to wear on my HEAD. I have hair growing out of my ears and now... Oh Merlin's tea bags - is it.. is it bad?" Plymouth reached up to rub his hair once Copernicus had let him free. He was sort of panicking.

"I'll help you," Copernicus agreed, resting his wand in the tight little red curls that were sprouting all over Plymouth's head. "Finite incantatem."

He glanced at their audience with a distracted expression. "Thank you. You should find a partner and duel as well."

"I'm new here, so I don't know many people. I'm Abby Wright. I'm sorry about the comment about your hair problem. I was just curious. I've never seen anyone with a beard that curls."

"I have a BEARD?!" Plymouth squeaked. He grabbed his chin. Even though he'd actually been trying to grow some facial hair for a while, he was SO relieved to find that his chin was bare as a baby's bottom. As it should be. He laid down flat on the arena mat and moved his hands back up to his newly Copernicus-mended hair.

"Oh Puffy hair. Don't ever leave me again." Plymouth took his mini time out and then rolled to his feet. He could NOT talk to anyone that had seen him with... that horrid hair. THank Merlin he hadn't know that it was RED, on top of being horrid curly. He'd.... looked like CALE NEWELL, toupee extraordinaire, no doubts. "I need a hug or something, Copernicus. Let's go find my mom or something pretty to hug." Plymouth looked around shiftily and tried to not make eye contact with anyone but Copernicus.

"Why are you so upset by your hair? I mean you did perform the spell on yourself, didn't you?" Abby is totally confused by these two.

"It was a duel," Copernicus told Abby with a shrug. "It just happened that way. I suppose we're done in here. You want to go find your favorite... red lion girl perfect prefect? I bet she's a good hugger," he whispered to Plymouth.

All these years and this was his first time here. The wild boy of Hogwarts eyes practically lit up at the sight of the place. Leaning on his bamboo pole made walking stick, he watched the two brothers duel. Helios smiled slightly at their playfulness, though in his heart he was hoping for a more intense spectacle.

"Not on purpose," Plymouth said, clearly because this girl had SEEN - and she'd remember - and oh how horrid. Plymouth was dancing around anxiously, ready to get out of the room. "It looks okay now, right?" Plymouth did a little lick on his palm and ran it through his hair.

And then Copernicus said something - Amazing. Intense. Extraordinary. Psychic. It sent him into a frenzy of flutters and red splotches. How Copernicus KNEW that - Plymouth himself didn't even know that! "Um... youthinkso?" he mumbled, looked around self-consciously, then left in a hurry, taking long, long strides.

"You look fine. I'm sorry I said anything. You're just amazing. Never seen anyone with hair like that." Abby looks at his robe. He's got a bird crest on. Definitely not a Hufflepuff. I guess you can't associate with people who are not in your house. I didn't notice your house crests. I'm sorry I bothered you'll."

"He's sensitive about his hair," Copernicus rose slowly and made sure his robes were straight and unwrinkled. "You're one of those sunshine girls, right? I'm Copernicus. I don't think we're supposed to socialize in here."

Abby notices the boy has the same emblen as the other. "Yes my mistake. Sorry I bother you." Abby leaves the room. She has a lot to learn about this new school.

Barry walked into the duel arena. He wanted a duel. He really wanted to duel. He also wanted to be first on the top earners list. But Cela and 4 other kids had to beat him. He walked in and said "Anyone want to duel" Thats was probley the worst question he could ever ask in a duel arena
