| | OWL Potions Lesson 2 OOC Note: This class is intended for fourth and fifth year students, ONLY. Other classes will be held for first through third and sixth & seventh years. Classes have certainly been interesting this term. Professor Bontecou stepped into his classroom once more, this time ahead of his students. Of course, he hadn't actually prepared for class, yet... Oops. He hurried inside and sat down behind his desk, pulling out his lesson plans. |

Rachel raised her hand and said clearly, "This potion has similar effects to the Confundus Charm - it basically causes confusion to whoever drinks it." Lowering her hand, she bit her lip as she waited to hear if she had been right. After all, her answer did make sense.

| Wowza! Ah, she knew this one. But then, who wouldn't? The Potion's name spoke for itself, really. "As the name itself points it out, the potion's job is to confuse the one who drinks it, Professor."

| Help us we're a bunch of letters stuck in this box !! Tino huddled in the middle of the classroom next to Willow, hoping the teacher wouldn't call on him just because he was the only one who hadn't answered. He wondered idly if they were going to brew confounding potion today.
Tino had already decided he didn't need the stuff himself. It probably wouldn't work on someone who was always confused anyway. The rest of the world, however, could stand to be taken down a notch. . .

| Yeahhh, Mr White! Yeah science! Emily looked over at the Ravenclaw boy and smirked inwardly at his comment. “Two negatives do make a positive.” She chipped in to the professor. But probably not in potions .. or any subject which didn't involve confusing numbers. Soooo only in Arithmancy then. The confused boy was confusing Ems with his confusing Ravenclaw logic. Gah! Perhaps he should be the guinea pig should they be brewing the potion. His confusion would become clarity... if he was right of course. If not, well, that would be kinda amusing.

Rachel blinked at Plymouth. He's got a point there... "But, what technically is the definition for confusion? It has many levels If the person was mildly confused, then wouldn't it just strengthen the confusion? Then again, if someone was really confused, then it couldn't possibly confuse him any more, because there is a limit, isn't there?" she asked the professor after Plymouth, speculating. She looked at the boy again. She had never really talked to him - he was more Cela's friend than her own. Maybe I could introduce myself after the lesson; he seems like a pretty sharp fellow. Hilarious and sharp - that's definitely a good combo in a friend.

Kaika sighed, sure, she'd never wonder THAT before, "I don't think that's how it works...I mean, if the potion does act like the charm...then you're confusing the person who drinks it into believing what you want them to believe...by confusing them...right?" and that was sort of confusing. "Being confused in the first place doesn't...well...I don't know for sure, but I don't think it matters much" she shrugged and straightened herself in her seat.

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Dominic listened as the Professor began with what concoction they would be working on today. Interesting . . . that sounded quite similar to confundus. Perhaps its effects were similar too? "Professor?" Dom raised his hand casually before setting it down on his desk and continuing. "Because of its rather unpredictable effects on different people, isn't it not recommended for use? Though it's not 'illegal' per say, but just highly unadvised. Of course if you were to brew it, then it's effects - though unpredictable - would be somewhere similar to the confundus charm."

| Wowza! Nodding at Constantino -or Tino, as Willow was certain that's how the boy preferred to be called- as he took seat next to her, the girl tilted her head to one side as she focused on the discussion that Plymouth had started. Well, he did have a point. . . as well as the rest of the people. Hmmm.
"Or perhaps it just wouldn't work?" Commented the girl from her seat with a shrug. "But then, there would be no way to know that it didn't seeing that the person was already confused." Now she was confused. Great.

| Yeahhh, Mr White! Yeah science! Aaaaand there went Willow. What was it with the bloody Ravenclaws in this school? But, at least The Kovac was using her nonce. Her statement seemed like the most likely outcome of all... either that or the poor confused sod would just become even more confused. Hmm... perhaps they were thinking about this just a little too deeply.
Glancing around at the other students, Emily noticed something for the first time - Bucket LOADS of blue, a little yellow and no red and green! Not particularly caring about the reds, Slytherin's lack of house unity was beginning to show once again. The little Slytherin had to will herself not to roll her eyes - no wonder they were last in the house cup.
She looked back at the professor hoping they would be given something practical to do this lesson rather than sit here discussing the ins and outs of curing confusion.

Alessia BURST into the OWL classroom in tears, her eyes red. She'd been crying from the second floor and running down to the dungeons, as the moving staircases were moving. "Pepe!" She cried when she saw him and threw her arms around his waist crying on his chest and blubbering something incoherent.

A little surprised, at the sudden enterance of another professor, Liz nods at Professor Bontecou's direction.
Walking up to the front of the classroom, Liz taps the board, Quote:
Confounding (Confusing) Concoction: mild formulation
Ingredients:
* water (500mL)
* jobberknoll feathers (2 barbs)
* leeches (juiced; 1-2)
Instructions:
* Bring water to a boil
* Separate the barbs from the shafts of 2 jobberknoll feathers
* Place barbs in boiling water and stir 12 times clockwise and 7 times counter-clockwise
* Boil for 30 minutes
* Add leech juice by squeezing one leech into the cauldron and stir in an unpredictable fashion
* Keep stirring until potion should thickens (within 5 minutes)
* If potion does not thicken after 10 minutes of stirring, add another leech and continue to stir unpredictably until thickened
* If potion has still not thickened after an additional 10 minutes, start another brew then heads back to her seat.

| Double Agent Stamps! Abby watches as Professor Lupa comes in crying and then wraps her arms around Professor Bontecou's waist. She sure got over her childhood fast. Abby watches as Bontecou tries to casually walk out of the classroom while Professor Lupa has a death grip on him. I can't wait to hear Professor Bontecou's explanation. I'm sure it will be entertaining. Abby turns the backboard around and copies down the potion instructions. Quote:

Abby gets out her potion's kit. She finds the jobberknoll feathers, takes out two, and starts separating the barbs from the shafts. When she finished, Abby sets up her cauldron and fire wood. She goes and gets 500ml of water and pours it in the cauldron. Abby lights the fire and watches as the water comes to a boil.

Setting out her cauldron, Liz adds 500 ml of water, using the auguamenti charm. Lighting the fire under her cauldron, with her wand, she stands back waiting for it to boil.
While waiting she goes to get 2 jobberknoll feathers and 2 leeches, and comes back to her table, once there, she starts separating the feathers' barbs from the shafts.
