Who would have thought that uttering the words Flobbeworm mucus would help her earn two points? Not her, certainly. And now that she thought about, Nature-freak had earn points, too, and so had the other boy who was Ravenclaw as well, and the other boy, too. . . That was eight points for Ravenclaw! A beam curled upon her rosy lips.

She was in a good mood during Potions lesson. How strange.

Not without some difficulty, Willow took out her Cauldron. Cauldron now over the table, she brushed her bangs out of her face, and waited for further instructions.

Abby can't believe that boy with the excessive ear hair is in this class too. What do I have to do to get away from Pete and Repeat (and I'm sure they know who's Pete and who's Repeat)? I must be cursed. Abby get out her cauldron and waits for Professor Bontecou to reveal the potion formula.

Copernicus prepared his cauldron, but he was still considering all the various options available to them for a hair removal potion. Once his materials were out, he raised his hand. "Professor? Is it also possible to make use of the oil from the calendula plant? It's a sort of marigold, and I've heard it's an anti-inflammatory and skin soother. It might help prevent the potion from irritating the skin."

Juniper grinned at the points she had earned, and turned to set up her cauldron. She fumbled as she set up the cauldron, but managed to get it upright and reading for brewing. Smiling slightly, she looked up and waited for further direction.

Professor Bontecou started writing up the potion and was interrupted halfway through...

"Oh! That is an excellent suggestion Mr. Kettleburn," he said and started messily inserting the new instructions as he talked. "Two points for Ravenclaw for you. Good thinking. There are many variations on this potion and this one did not have a soothing agent, so that will be an excellent addition. I have some in my stores if someone would be so kind as to get it..."

Ingredients

• beeswax (2 tablespoons)
• juice from 5 flobberworms, freshly squeezed
• shrivelfig (1, peeled & crushed)
• calendula oil (10 drops)

Instructions

• melt wax in cauldron
• add flobberworm juice and stir over high heat for 5 minutes, alternate stirring clockwise and counterclockwise every minute
• add shrivelfig and stew over a low flame for 30 minutes
• remove from heat and allow to cool completely before applying
• add calendula oil after cooled and before application

Notes. Can add essential oils for fragrance. Apply to area requiring hair removal, allow to stand for 5 minutes, and remove with a warm, moist, cloth. Discard after 24 hours

"Alright, there it is. Have at it and try not to blow anything up," he grinned.

Camira quickly raised her hand. "I can go get it for you, Professor", she said eagerly. She wanted to see his private stores. She wasn't going to take anything, of course. She just wanted to look.

She stood up and gave him a look, making sure it was okay for her to go get it.

Abby gets her potion kit out of her bag. Darn, I don't have any wax or that other ingredient Pete suggested. What was it? Oh yeah, Oil from the Calendula plant. It must be similar to the oil from the Aloe Vera plant. They used it a lot in potions of this sort in the US. Abby raises her hand. Professor, is it okay if I borrow some ingredients from your potion cubbard? I don't have any wax or any of the oil from the Calendula plant. If you don't have enough of this oil, would it be okay to subsitute Aloe Vera oil?"

Copernicus set the flame to low and added a wedge of beeswax to slowly melt over the flame. Not too high, or the whole mess would scorch up. "Plymouth," he hissed at his step-brother. "Are you set?"

"Yes, thank you Miss Yaxley. 2 points to Slytherin as long as you don't make a mess of my stores," he winked and then started walking around the classroom.

Camira gave the professor a nod and a bright smile, before heading off to his stores. "Oh, and don't worry Professor. I'll make sure to leave them just as neat as I find them." Honestly, why he would possibly think she would make a mess of things. Then again, some of her fellow classmates were....er, yeah.

Plymouth had been trying to decide who to partner with. Or rather, who to set up his ancient cauldron (that he'd bought used - with pride!) next to and watch. Not cheat, because Plymouth had a mind of his own, but just watch...


He wanted to be around the person that made the best hair removal potion so that he could get some and INDEED remove the AWFUL hair. In the end though, just set up near the front so the very cool, very clever, and sure, Plymouth could admit, very handsome Headman was hanging.


Plymouth could see the board so good from there, too.


"Allllrighty, right, rooo. Melt in cauldron." Which meant only good things for Plymouth who had been wanting to light a fire from the very beginning. Plymouth got his wand out and drew a blank. Dang. "What's the fire starting spell, Perni? I forgot?" Maybe he could melt the wax in his mouth?

Valentine started to set up her cauldron, looking over the instructions. For a moment she paused, tying back her blue and blond hair from harms way. The last thing she needed was for her head to catch a fire. She hummed to herself as she worked alone, and looked around.

It seemed as though a fellow Ravenclaw was having some troubled with lighting his cauldron. Valentine smirked to herself. "Incendio." She pointed her wand towards his cauldron, and watched the kindling light fire. She gave the boy a friendly smile and did the same to her own.

Juniper slowly began to raise her hand, but quickly lowered it as the Slytherin girl beat her to volunteering. She looked curiously at the girl--she had never seen her before. But then again, Juniper would be more likely to recognize someone's feet than their face.

After starting a small fire under her cauldron, Juniper began the first step and put two tablespoons of beeswax into her cauldron to melt. She hummed quietly but tunelessly under her breath as she chose five flobberworms and... squeezed them. Into a small dish. Gross. But that way, she could add the juice right away when the wax was melted. Which, Juniper saw as she peered into her cauldron, it was.

Juniper tipped the dish of flobberworm juice into her cauldron and raised the heat before beginning the five minutes of precise stirring. As she stirred, she glanced around at the others.

Flobberworms Juice. Freshly squeezed.

Gross. Sure that saying those two words had made her earned two points, but that little fact did not mean that they were no longer disgusting. Because they still were, as they always will be.

Would she have to touch it? Ew.

This was like getting mud on her robes all over again. . . Sort of.

Nose wrinkled at the single thought of it, the girl read the instructions three more times until she was sure she'd understood properly. Professor Bontecou had kindly pointed out he did not want explosions, and she would not start one. Or at least she would try not to. Heh.

"Now--two tablespoons of beeswax," muttered the girl to herself, as she added them to the cauldron. Now she would have to wait for them to melt. Good. She could wait.

After two minutes of staring at the beeswax inside the cauldron, the fifth year thought that something must have been wrong. Nothing was happening. There was no heat coming out of the cauldron, the wax looked exactly the same. . .

What was wrong with her cauldron? "Come on. Work!" she commanded, before poking the cauldron, and the wincing at the pain it caused. "Stupid little thing," she trailed off, grumbling under her breath.

What was wrong with the thing, she did kno--OHHHH. No wonder why nothing had happened; she'd forgotten to set up the flame. Nice. "Sorry I poked you," whispered the brunette to the cauldron, before catching herself and realizing that she'd just spoken to something that was not a human. Heck, the cauldron was not even a living thing, for crying out loud.

Blinking a few times, and mentally scolding herself for doing such a ridiculous thing, Willow finally set up the flame and waited for the beeswax to melt.

Dominic had been scribbling down the notes fiercely as he could, in efforts to keep up with what his classmates had been saying. NEWT level potion today but they could handle it!? For the love of Merlin, it wasn't like Potions was his best subject.

Glancing around, the fifth year searched for someone who liked they knew what they were doing. Well first things first were to light a fire under the cauldron, which was simple enough. Removing his wand from his black school robes, the fifth year waved his wand under his cauldron and murmured, "Incendio".

Two tablespoons beeswax.

Looking over towards the Ravenclaw Captain, aka Mystery Girl, Dom watched her for a moment or two. She seemed skilled in the manner of potions. "Oi. Mystery Girl," he whispered urgently. "Wanna work with me?" Best ask to be partnered than for help...

Plymouth had someone to help him, so Copernicus turned back to his own cauldron. The wax had finally melted, and it was a thick clear liquid in the bottom of his cauldron. While he'd waited, Copernicus had juiced his flobberworms, which was quite disgusting. The juice went into the cauldron, and Copernicus raised the heat under the liquid.

Camira quickly walked back into the classroom with the calendula oil, eager to start on her own potion. “Here you go, professor”, she said politely, passing him the bottle of oil. She the hurried back to her own seat.

After using incendio to start a fire under her cauldron, she dropped in 1 tablespoon of beeswax, letting it melt partially before adding the other tablespoon. It made for less clumping, in her experience. As she waited for it to melt completely, she dug through her bag for lavender oil. Who said hair removal couldn’t be therapeutic?

As the wax finished melting, Camira carefully excised the juice from the flobberworms, dropping it into a small vile. “altusestus”, she mumbled, placing her hand close to the flame to make sure the flame had gotten larger and hotter. She then proceeded to stir in the juice, setting her timer to make sure she knew when to alternate the direction of her stirring. So far, this potion was coming along quite well indeed.

Well, waiting for the beeswax to melt was not particularly exciting, was it? No, it was not. It was such a slow process, and staring at the thing melting inside the cauldron for so long was beginning to make her feel sleepy. . . One of her hands instantly raised to cover her mouth as she yawned. She blinked a couple of times.

Right. So, unless she wanted her face to end up in the bottom on the cauldron the moment she fell asleep (she didn't even want to fall asleep on the first place!) the wisest thing to do, was to take a step back and wait for the thing to melt without watching it.

And so she did.

Or at least that's what she planned to do, for as soon as she attempted to take a step back, the sound of a familiar voice came as a distraction. Half-turning around to look at the boy, Willow considered his question for a minute. Well, if she partnered up with him --or anyone else-- there was a pretty big chance that she might end up embarrassing herself. But, she was going to be optimistic. For all she knew, nothing would happen and she would be able to do one of the things she did the best--show off. "Sure thing, Prefect... Weird Boy," said Willow nonchalantly. Well, she wasn't moving; if Weird Boy wanted to work with her he would be the one moving.

Oh, and look--the beeswex had finally melted!

Now, what was next?

"Oh. Well bless your little cauldron! Aren't you nice! If I could give points, I'd give you twenty." Plymouth bent down to blow on his little fire. He was apparently running behind already so he wanted his fire the HOTTEST.

He dropped his wax in and then (quite stupidly) stuck his face over the cauldron to watch it melt. "OooOooo cool!"

After five minutes of clockwise and counter-clockwise stirring, Juniper quenched the flame under her cauldron a little bit. Not entirely, of course. She did not want to have to relight her fire. Taking her shrivelfig, Juniper began to peel it. Very, very carefully. Who knew what could go wrong if she left a little bit of the outside on the shrivelfig, after all. Juniper certainly did not know, and she was positive that she did not want to know. Professor Bontecou had said no explosions, and that meant she had to peel the shrivelfig quite meticulously.

Even if it did mean that peeling it would take forever and a day.

Juniper tapped her foot as she peeled away the last remnants of the outside of the shrivelfig. By this point, she was completely oblivious to the students around her. For all she knew, they could be flooding the dungeons. And she probably would not notice until her fire went out. Theoretically.

After the shrivelfig was peeled, Juniper paused for a moment to gather her thoughts. Now she had to crush it. Hmmm. How to crush it... Well, that should be easy, right? Juniper carefully crushed the shrivelfig with the side of her knife and scraped it into the cauldron. There. Shrivelfig, peeled and crushed, in the potion. Next step...

Juniper glanced up at the board to see the next step. Oh. She had to stew it for thirty minutes. Well, that was quite simple. Juniper sat back and stared at her cauldron and the other students in turn. At her cauldron, to make sure it was not boiling over or exploding or anything. At the other students, because she really did not have much else to look at.

Thirty minutes really was a rather long time, to be honest.

Valentine added more heat, and then added in the juice from the flobberworms. It was just like cooking, except she wouldn't really be able to eat this after, now the thought of it was starting to make her hungry. With a sigh the girl stirred the potion, thinking of what she was going to eat after this class was done.

Valentine smiled at the unknown boy. "It was no problem at all." She said, stirring the wax.

Whilst awaiting the response from the Captain Mystery Girl, Dominic kept his eyes focused on the melting wax in his cauldron. He wasn't actually sure that she had heard his request, since there was a long silence except for the other chatter of other students discussing the creation of this hair removal potion. Why were they making this anyway? Oh, cause some unfortunate boy in the front had a problem of ear hair!? Well that was lame.

Beeswax nearly melted and then he heard her speaking. 'Prefect Weird Boy'? Oh she was funny, this one was ... but nope, he wouldn't tell her his name just yet as it was priceless having her call him that. It was different and unique and ... he kind of enjoyed it.

Right. He had to slide down a bit though since she was just a few seats down from him. Extinguishing his fire momentarily, the fifth year levitated his cauldron over and plopped it down gently into the free area next to the Claws'. "Thanks," he murmured, reigniting his flames.

"You... er, your wax melted?" The boy asked, peeking into her cauldron attentively. "Cause I think we need to juice some flobberworms or something like that." Eww. That sounded so unappetizing. Couldn't they just use pumpkin juice or something?

"You're welcome," she murmured, eyeing the Flobberworms with disgust, before looking away from them and settling on watching him. Well, he didn't look like a flobberworm which was a good thing, actua--OH! An idea ocurred to her, a sly look crossed her forest green eyes. "Hey, Weird Boy. Can I ask you something?" Started the girl, sounding perfectly amicable--which was rare.

Upon hearing him speak, Willow shook her head. "If you read the instructions correctly," which he doubted he had, men hated reading instructions--her siblings did, "You'll see that you have to melt the beeswax first, and then add the disgusting juice," she said, using a know-it-all tone of voice. "Ask anyone, and you'll see I'm right," the fifth year challeneged.

And then, feeling just a teensy bit remorseful about, she went back to staring at the horrid flobberworms.

Zeke looked over the instructions once again. He started a fire under his cauldron with his wand and proceeded to follow step 1: melt the wax.
He drummed his fingers on the table lightly to pass time while waiting. A watched pot never boils... or whatever. he thought to himself, looking around the classroom at everyone else trying to make their potion.
Ah. Finally. he though, the wax being melted after 3 or so minutes.
"Add flobberworm juice and stir over high heat for five minutes, alternate stirring... ok," he mumbled to himself, adding the flobberworm juice and beginning to stir.
Well. This is going off without a hitch. Good thing I'm good at potions. he smiled to himself. More like good thing nobody is talking to me and distracting me... darn my social butterfly ways! he laughed inwardly. He had a habit of going into mental monologues when no one was interacting with him. My sister told me that Peeves came into her potions class and wreaked havoc. I'm soooo glad that's not happening! Err, knock on wood, he thought. Didn't want it to happen now that he'd thought that - don't want to test fate, you know.

Still debating on how he was to go about squeezing the juice from these wretched flobberworms, Dominic kept a watchful eye on his melted wax too. Last thing he needed was for it to burn, so he had to do this dejuicing quickly and painlessly.

Hearing her speak again, Dom tilted his head in her direction as she suddenly asked him a peculiar question - keeping things completely friendly, but yet that tone didn't fool him one bit as it contradicted her sly expression. Returning the look, his topaz eyes twinkled mischievously before responding, "You just did, Mystery Girl."

Ugh. Did she then have to tell him the instructions with that tone of voice. Just because she was a Ravenclaw and supposedly intelligent and all; but then again it was him who had chosen to work with her, of which she agreed. So it was her fault then. Besides, didn't she just repeat what he had just said anyway? For someone with a cocky and know-it-all persona, she sure was foolish.

"Right. I said that," he murmured, reaching into his bag and pulling out gloves from his Magical Creatures class. If he was going to be squeezing flobberworms, then at least he'd keep his hands clean. Slipping a glove on, he winced as he picked up one of the five worms laid in front of him and began squeezing the juice into his cauldron.

Hmph. Not that hard.
