| | |  Muggle Studies Lesson 1 - Currency Conversion and Muggle Fashions
Antonio walked into the classroom, getting things ready for the students ahead of time. There were two differrent subjects he wanted to cover in today's lesson, so he knew that time was of the essence. The first part of the lesson was going to focus on currency conversion, so he began to get his materials out for the students as they entered the room.
The first item was a converter chart which would convert wizarding money into United States dollars - Harry Potter currency converter
The second item was another converter chart, this one converted the British pound, the U.S. dollar, the Canadian dollar, the Euro dollar, the Australian dollar and the Japanese yen back and forth into one of the other type of currency. Currency Converter - Yahoo! Finance
There were other types of currency in the world, of course, but Antonio had found these sources easy to work with and thought the students would be able to use the materials easily in class.
He waited for the students to show up, calling out instructions to each person as they entered.
"Good morning, everyone. We are going to be working with a couple different things today, but the first part deals with currency. Please take one of each of the two handouts as you enter, then take a seat and we'll be getting ready soon. Feel free to take a chocolate chip cookie, as well, and perhaps some pumpkin juice." He gestured to the serving area to the side of his desk. | |

Vanessa thought for a few minutes before raising her hand. "It is because of the ever changing economy and exchange rates. As business moves on, and the finance changes, the difference in money conversions must change, also. Would that be why there is changes in the calculations?" Vanessa shrugged a little, as she finished speaking, she may have only concluded in confusing herself there.

Elizabeth looked up as the professor noted how everyone had gotten different calculations, which she had heard others in the class talking about. But since other students had spoken, she stayed quiet. She knew her calculations had been correct, at least for the moment.

"The answers keep changing because of the stock market and the constantly changing exchange rates that have to match the value of the currency constantly. And like you said, the answers should be very similar to each other, unless there is a sudden economic crisis or boom, and then the rates go down and up very dramatically. That rarely happens though, as the muggles work hard to keep their economy steady," she said, remembering learning about this in one of her Advanced classes back in her old muggle school.

And when the price of gold changes and it changes the rates of the money that is backs. Then you have some countries that pull some of its money off the market so that the price of it goes up." Dominic had been messing around with the converter, finding it strangely fascinating with all the different currencies, where he completely missed a question or two. Oh well.
Listening to the rhetorical question about the exchange rates, Dom nodded and waited for their next activity. That was when Professor Dumont suddenly singled someone out - someone who was a Hufflepuff. Shooting the young boy a glare that he better behave himself, he then turned back to the front of the room.

Varius' head could be found in his hands. A lot of Hufflepuff's had worked hard this lesson to gain points and the one known as 'Moiser' was now just being a brat and about to lose some of those points if he didn't shut up and start behaving. Bad parenting, that's what Varius thought - didn't this boy have a brother at the school as well? Hufflepuff also, if Varius remembered correctly. Hopefully the sibling had a bit more respect.
