"The exchange rate is always change so people can have different answers" said Nate/

RachieRu 01-28-2009 07:42 PM

Vanessa thought for a few minutes before raising her hand. "It is because of the ever changing economy and exchange rates. As business moves on, and the finance changes, the difference in money conversions must change, also. Would that be why there is changes in the calculations?" Vanessa shrugged a little, as she finished speaking, she may have only concluded in confusing herself there.

This calculator thing was confusing, and Clifford wrinkled his nose in annoyance. Bah. Why did the conversion rate thingymajig keep changing? "Perhaps the muggle people are fussy and can't make up their minds." The sixth year thought out loud, hand raised. Erm.

SilverTiger 01-28-2009 07:42 PM

Elizabeth looked up as the professor noted how everyone had gotten different calculations, which she had heard others in the class talking about. But since other students had spoken, she stayed quiet. She knew her calculations had been correct, at least for the moment.

There is a reason for it, and it's a very interesting one. In fact, I believe some of you may have already figured it out. Jake, you were asking about the ever-changing exchange rate. This is the exact reason why the calculations keep changing, but they should be steady enough that they will be correct within a few degrees. Interesting, though, isn't it?"

Cela raised her hand thoughtfully, "Does the wizarding rate change lots too? And why don't they keep the muggle rates at a standard? Wouldn't it be easier to always know what it should be or even just update it every now and again except every few seconds?"

MeredithRodneyMckay 01-28-2009 07:43 PM

Hmm interesting..so they were all right.
Scribbling down the information on her parchment,Sarah then looked back up ready for the next question.

Felixir 01-28-2009 07:44 PM

Wow... I was right about something.

Jake raised his hand. "Sir, it's interesting, but it's really confusing... Kinda makes you wonder why everything keeps changing, would cause alot less confusion..."

In the real world and in this class...

"...if it didn't."

"The answers keep changing because of the stock market and the constantly changing exchange rates that have to match the value of the currency constantly. And like you said, the answers should be very similar to each other, unless there is a sudden economic crisis or boom, and then the rates go down and up very dramatically. That rarely happens though, as the muggles work hard to keep their economy steady," she said, remembering learning about this in one of her Advanced classes back in her old muggle school.

Antonio nodded. "Ah, that's a very excellent answer as to why the numbers keep changing. Very well done, 3 points for that explanation! And 3 points to Hufflepuff as well, for Jake's accuracy in noticing what the exact problem was with the numbers."

Yaya 01-28-2009 07:44 PM

Emiliano raised his hand, hoping to have a good answer. "Value rates keep changing every once in a while...like now...they changed every minute...." He slowly said.

She raised her hand, "Sir it changes because muggle buy and sell their money on their money on the open market. They literally exchange money. And when the price of gold changes and it changes the rates of the money that is backs. Then you have some countries that pull some of its money off the market so that the price of it goes up." She explained.

Kar's Notes
All answers correct because of the ever changing economy.
"Professor, isn't it too because each economy is having its own type of recessions as well? They may be minor, but each stock market can go up and down each second. Exchange rates always differ because they always rely on the same economy. But, when the economy changes, the rates change as well."

Did that even make sense?

"Here, here!" Varius stated in agreement with the Slytherin Prefects answer. Muggles were just baffling to Varius most of the time and it was just things like this that proved how insane they were and how much harder they made life for themselves.

Jack sighed boredly "Yes, I hate maths" he snapped the case in half with a loud CRACK! he then picked up a heavy book and dropped it on the half of the case he had on his desk I love this! he grinned

Aomidori 01-28-2009 07:47 PM

"In a market economy, the values of the two currencies will change depending on the demand for the available supply." Matilda said uncertainly. She liked maths, but theory was... something else entirely.

PhoenixRising 01-28-2009 07:48 PM

Dominic had been messing around with the converter, finding it strangely fascinating with all the different currencies, where he completely missed a question or two. Oh well.

Listening to the rhetorical question about the exchange rates, Dom nodded and waited for their next activity. That was when Professor Dumont suddenly singled someone out - someone who was a Hufflepuff. Shooting the young boy a glare that he better behave himself, he then turned back to the front of the room.

Waterloo 01-28-2009 07:49 PM

Clifford liked learning about muggles.. but this part of the muggle world was just UBER confusing. Brow furrowing in frustration, he turned to the back of the room and glared at one of the younger looking Hufflepuffs that was being a complete pain the backside.

Fritter 01-28-2009 07:49 PM

Christine sat in her chair confused when people tried to figure out why everyone got different answers. To Christine, math made little sense, and economy made even less sense.

noneworld 01-28-2009 07:50 PM

"That is really interessting. Why does that changes all the time Professor?" asked Damian.

Suziella 01-28-2009 07:50 PM

Maddox listened and nodded, agreeing with the professor. Exchange rates were very interesting. He scribbled down some notes waiting for the next question. He glanced over at Karma, grinned and winked.

Leeness 01-28-2009 07:51 PM

Varius' head could be found in his hands. A lot of Hufflepuff's had worked hard this lesson to gain points and the one known as 'Moiser' was now just being a brat and about to lose some of those points if he didn't shut up and start behaving. Bad parenting, that's what Varius thought - didn't this boy have a brother at the school as well? Hufflepuff also, if Varius remembered correctly. Hopefully the sibling had a bit more respect.

Felixir 01-28-2009 07:53 PM

Out of the corner of his eye Jake watched Jack Mosier's idiotic antics. He wanted to throw something at him and relieved the tension by snapping his quill.

Grrrrr... Jake pulled out another one and tried his best not to look at the attention-seeking one, for fear of an outburst and point loss.

SalazarHeir 01-28-2009 07:53 PM

Noelle really enjoyed this class, but why most the muggle world be SO CONFUSING. Noelle drummed her fingers on the desk while daydreaming.

MeredithRodneyMckay 01-28-2009 07:54 PM

"My dad said you used to be able to go to America on holiday and shop for things that turned out to be quite cheap..with the exchange rate taken into account," Sarah muttered, hand half raised. "Now,though,it isn't so cheap because the rates are closing and you don't get as many Dollars to the pound."
She wasn't entirely sure why she had said it.

"Mr. Moiser, can you PLEASE control yourself?", Antonio asked. "One more outburst like that and I will deduct points, many points, as well as issuing a detention. This is your last chance."

"All of you have done very well. There is going to be a lot more on the homework, more conversions for all of you to work on and things, but I would like us all to move on now if we could."

Antonio handed out another handbook -
Fashion for women -- fashion designers, latest fashion trends, fashion tips
and another one -
Men's Fashion - Grooming, Style and Fashion for Men

"There is a lot in here, lots of things to absorb. Why don't you all go through and explore it a bit, and I'll leave you all alone for a while to work. No misbehving while I'm gone!", he said threateningly, focusing his attention on Jack. "I see all of you, and I'll know if you act up."
