On the first level of the library, there are a number of long tables, with a few smaller tables congregated in the front corners. A collection of ink wells and quills sit upon the center of each table. A small plaque proclaims that these are available for use within the library only.
Here is an area where students can complete their homework, form study groups, research a particularly difficult assignment, or simply read to their heart’s content. Bookshelves surround this area, giving easy access to information.
Mariel nodded in agreement as she scowled slightly when they started talking about History of Magic. "Yeah, you're right. That subject is just plain boring. Definitely better than that crazy woman, but," here, she lowered her voice to a conspiratorial whisper, "I still question this one's sanity as well." But definitely not as much as the other one. Giving Nancy an incredulous look, she added, "I mean, making everyone come to class in bare feet? And the slightly askew desks were just... odd. But there was chocolate involved, so he couldn't be all bad. The homework is just dreadful though." She donned a sour look as she remembered that she hadn't even started it yet. Shaking herself out of those boring thoughts, the young Ravenclaw focused her attention on Nancy's next words.
Mariel grinned as Nancy confirmed that she was planning on trying out. "Oh, don't be nervous, I know you'll do great! Have you been flying over the summer?" She seemed to remember that the Slytherin girl had not been allowed to fly at home, maybe that had changed since the last she knew. "Wouldn't it be great if we both played? Of course, we'll be competition..." she added with a wink.
"I'm so glad I ran into you, I haven't seen you in, um... forever," she said, pausing to think. She hadn't seen her Slytherin friend all term. When was the last time she saw her? Diagon Alley over the summer? Oh, yeah, right.... speaking of... "So I hope you got a chance to punish that cat-kicker," she said, remembering the day. "How is Chistery anyway?" Hopefully that boy hadn't injured him or anything.

After being talked to, his friend left the library and was off to somewhere else. S'riiiight! YA BETTAH RUN. Thinking happy thoughts made him feel better and better was good! He didn't notice the marking on his cheek so he just gave a confused face at the girl who said that "they do." Whoooo is they?
He realized that Nancy and the Ravenclaw girl were talking about something so he decided to join in. "You guys are trying out? Me tooo!"
Rolling her eyes Nancy frowned at Mariel as the Ravenclaw went on about their last History of Magic lesson. Oh, it was so good to talk to Mariel again! They were just on the same wavelength, up to a certain extent at least. At Mariel's statement about History of Magic being completely boring Nancy nodded enthusiastically in agreement before exclaiming, "Exactly. I mean, who needs that subject anyway? I don't think that any of those old guys would mind if we didn't learn about them. I mean, they are dead anyways!" It wasn't like any of those people were going to punish them if they didn't know every little detail about their lives, right?
Nancy's eyes widened slightly as Mariel suddenly lowered her voice and she had to lean in a bit to actually catch what the girl was saying. A small smirk crept across her face as the young Ravenclaw said exactly the same thing Nancy had thought the first moment she'd been told to take off her shoes before entering the History of Magic classroom this term. Returning Mariel's incredulous look Nancy rolled her eyes once again before whispering, "Right. I mean, when I walked up to the classroom and all of a sudden I was told to take off my shoes and socks I was all like What the heck?! Maybe Lainey should have stayed after all. But you're right, though, it really got better in the end. Slightly, at least."
And right at that moment Mariel had to mention the HoM homework. Her face fell at the thought that she hadn't even started yet, and, above all, wasn't exactly finished with her Arithmancy homework either. Oops."Riiight. Homework. Aren't we supposed to discuss something in one of the questions? Wait..." She trailed off as she bent down towards her bag to get out her History of Magic notes to look up what exactly they were supposed to do. Upon straightening up again her blue eyes fell on Cam who was still sitting next to them, apparently working on his Arithmancy homework or something, and whose presence she'd totally forgotten about. "Yes, I was right...sooo, Cam, Mariel-" She intentionally addressed both to sort of include Cam again. "Who was on your chocolate frog card? I had Edgar Stroulger." Hopefully this homework wouldn't be that hard if they worked on it together.
Her face lit up again as their conversation moved on to more cheerful topics such as Quidditch. Biting her lip slightly she tried her best to not look at neither Cam nor Mariel while she replied, "I know, I shouldn't be nervous. But still, I am. I can't help it." Then tilting her head slightly to face Cam she added with a questioning look, "Aren't you nervous as well?" He had to be, he just had to be. Frowning slightly as Mariel reminded her of the aweful fight she'd gotten into with her parents at the beginning of the summer holidays about the broom she'd secrectly bought she answered reluctantly, "Well, yes, I was allowed to fly. Finally. I somehow persuaded my parents. Don't ask me how, I just somehow managed to." She wasn't too keen on getting into detail on how exactly she'd talked her parents into permitting her to keep her broom. Returning Mariel's wink rather half-heartedly Nancy muttered, "Yeah right. But first I need to get on the team."
Her frown became even more intense as Mariel mentioned something about the "cat-kicker" Jack and she couldn't quite keep the irritation from her face as she responded, "No, actually I didn't. Unfortunately. I get so annoyed everytime I see him I can't even think straight. But yes, Chistery's okay. Luckily." Then her facial expression changed slightly as she remembered something and turning to Cam she added, "But I do believe that Jake isn't too fond of him, either, right? Jack, I mean."
”Why,” Aggie said making a face. “Would anyone want to do that to another person?” She took the handout and flipped it sideways then flipped a page. “It’s like, equal to torture. Oh and this one’s even worse!” She turned the paper around to show him a picture of a girl in polka dots and stripes with checkered shoes and a terrible 80’s hairdo.
"Because that's just how women are," he said, quickly adding to his statement. "Present company excluded."
Hoping that crisis had been avoided, he looked at the handout. The girl on it was from some kind of ad in an 80s magazine. There was no real doubt that the picture had only been recently found, but it went well with the other ugly clothing examples.
"It is pretty awful, but this time it was intentional. It was the 80s though so... people had some bad judgment," he said to Aggie as he handed back the sheet.

" I would think that for that game," She began, taking on Elizabeth's game show topic, whatever a game show was anyway, " They might all be very well matched against one another." She said. " After all, they all have knowledge about different aspects of life. But I agree with Elizabeth, I believe Wenlock would win over all because she discovered something that affects all of us, which is numbers." She began jotting down more notes on top of what she already had written. Robert on the other hand was...quiet. She didn't want to make a big deal about it and decided to keep writing, dipping her quill in ink. "Well, I like the cook off but what about a dance off? Wenlock as well? I mean, count the number of steps in a dance move...seven." She began to giggle wondering what else they could get into.

"The number seven is just everywhere," she joked, before turning slightly thoughtful. "I've never actually heard of a seven-count in music before, though." She thought about more things their people could face off against each other with, wondering if Lyra's fascination with Wenlock and seven was going to make her say the woman would win everything.
And as she semi-lost herself in thought, her mind wandered back to when Cayden left, and the message he had gotten. And she realized the falcon that had delivered it had been awfully familiar. She really needed to start making a list of all the things she needed to ask Cayden about one of these days.
Robert wrote down the ideas the girls were talking about and continued to draw on the side of his paper. "What about...like a singing contest or something as benign as that?" It wasn't until he saw a falcon fly over them that he looked up and stared at Cayden curiously as he walked out. "Now that was...odd..." He set his quill down and sat back in his chair with a sigh as he stretched. "Well...anything else we need to go over?" For some reason he wanted this to be over. He needed to go think or something. He looked at Mariska again and swallowed forcing himself not to give anything away. He ran a hand over his face, "I'm just tired." In a matter of speaking.

Lyra nodded her head in agreement with several things that Robert spoke of. She looked over her notes once more and wrote down the last little things they spoke of. "I agree," she said as she looked to the other girls. "I think we have enough here to finish our homework." Ahhhh! Now she was not so stressed anymore and the day was going to be even better when she finished her homework. "Unless someone has something else to add."

Elizabeth had glanced over as Robert finally spoke, a worried expression crossing her face as he said he was tired. She knew she was going to have to find out what was up with that later. But they needed to wrap up the discussion, apparently, so she glanced at her notes again, writing another few things down before glancing up again.
Shaking her head at Lyra's question, she spoke. "No. Not really. Although, I have to say I have no idea who would be better at singing. Just to comment on Robert's idea." She had a feeling they'd find some way to make it seem like Wenlock would, but she wasn't entirely convinced. "But I agree. We probably have enough to finish the assignment."

If you don't...well, I can understand that too." Her smile faltered a bit as she thought about how she could phrase this in a way that would make it sound not that bad. "My father...My father was... he loved me, but he wasn't really that good at being a father. And when I got older, he wanted me to be like him. He wasn't bad, per se, but some of his choices were. Anyways, my mother disapproved." She paused for a moment and took a look around. "Muffliato", she said quickly, not wanting any eavesdroppers for this particular conversation. "Right, so my mother disapproved and things got out of hand and he...well, he killed her. So, after that, it was just me and him and he had to "undo" what my mother had done. He...he had to fix me. And he tried. With training. I don't really want to go into details, but it hurt. And I didn't think I could handle it. But I couldn't just leave. I would loose everything. And so....I killed him", she finished bluntly. Wow, she'd told that whole thing without a quiver of emotion. She was getting better at it. "So, there it is." Of course she had her wand ready. She might need to obliviate him if he freaked out.
"Ah. Um. Ok." Zeke said, a bit surprised. Somehow... it didn't scare him as much as it probably should. Which is what was actually scary to him. Err... why am I ok with that? I SO should not be ok with that! "Well. If he deserved it," he said with a shrug. It was a little weird to talk so emotionlessly about killing someone, buuuuuut... "One of my mother's Muggle friends is married to an abusive guy. And no matter how much he hurts her, she never leaves him," he said with a raised brow. "So it's probably better to... do what you did rather than be hurt all the time like she is. I don't know if that's even the same situation, but... I get it, I guess." he said. He decided that as... strange as it was, he wasn't freaked out (even though he probably should have been).
Cam gasped loudly in the library right after he was caught by Jake and gasping again even louder after being said that he was some sort of amateur in pranking! Then her facial expression changed slightly as she remembered something and turning to Cam she added, "But I do believe that Jake isn't too fond of him, either, right? Jack, I mean."
Mariel could not agree more with Nancy's sentiments on the most boring subject ever taught. Rolling her eyes right along with the Slytherin girl, she nodded as she said disdainfully, "I know, could there be a more mind-numbing class?" Well, maybe Herbology. That was a close second. And not like she was looking forward to DADA either, not with that cranky old professor teaching it this term.
But back to the current conversation and homework... "Uh, Edgar Stroulger?" Who the heck was that? "I don't know who that is. What does your card say about him?" she asked Nancy. Shrugging she added, "I got Roderick Plumpton." And every Quidditch fan should know who he was. But just in case someone needed a reminder, the Ravenclaw girl turned to the young boy who was the walking advertisement for the awesomeness that is Ravenclaw, now known to be called Cam, and said, "Seeker for the Tutshill Tornados... Captured the Snitch in 3 and a half seconds..." Turning back to Nancy, she nodded, "Yeah, some sort of discussion comparing different cards... You guys want to work on it?" Mariel certainly wasn't eager, but after the row she had with her father about last term's History of Magic, she wasn't about to let her grade suffer. Might as well get it over with. Then they could do/talk about something more fun.
And speaking of more fun, back to Quidditch. She nodded at Cam when he exclaimed about Quidditch tryouts. "Yeah, we had our first trial the other day. When do you guys have yours?" She could understand Nancy's apprehension. Tryouts were so competitive. "Well, at least you got in some practice over the summer then," she said to Nancy with a reassuring smile as she talked about her broom. "I think that will help with tryouts." The Ravenclaw girl could tell that her Slytherin friend was reluctant to give details, so she didn't press the issue.
Mariel mirrored Nancy's frown as she discussed the 'cat-kicker'. She had recognized him in one of her classes and he seemed to be quite the troublemaker - and not the fun kind where everyone gets a good laugh, but the bratty, beligerent kind. "Well, that's a shame really. Someone should teach that kid a lesson. But I'm glad your cat's alright." She glanced up at Nancy as her expression changed and she shared a look with the Slytherin boy. It seemed as though they were somewhat familiar with him as Nancy even knew his name. "Oh, Jack, is it? Have you had another run-in with him since Diagon Alley?"

Mariska now had quite an extensive bit of notes down, somethig she knew would help her with her homework later. She looked up as the rest of the group stated the same thing, and she nodded. " I guess that means...we're done here." She said, smiling at Lyra and Robert for a moment before looking over at Elizabeth before she stood up. " So, thanks for the help, both of you." She said, smiling at them both politely before turning to Elizabeth as she gathered her things. " I'm kind of hungry. What about you, Elizabeth?" Camira eyed him critically, trying to figure out if he was lying to her. "The situation was complicated. I might tell you all about it some other time", she said after a few moments. "But I did what I felt like I had to. And I would never do something like that to anyone who wasn't a threat to me. So you don't have to be scared to get on my nerves or anything", she joked, trying to lighten up the situation. "Anyways, yeah, so that's about the worst thing you'll probably ever hear." Okaaaay. She had no idea what to talk about now. How do you shift back into normal conversation mode after that?

Zeke nodded slowly. "If you want to," he said. He didn't want her to feel like she had to tell him now that she'd started - not that he thought she would if she didn't want to, actually. "No, I don't believe you would," he said with a sincere smile. He knew it must have been bad for her; he didn't know what had went on, but he knew it was not something he'd want to go through. Lyra smiled as everyone was stating that they were finished. She for one was going to stay behind in the library and work on her long list of assignments and do some research on a few things for an article she had to write. "Thank you all for agreeing to come," she smiled as she looked mainly to Mariska and smiled. There was a part of her who envied her for the simple fact that she was strong. It had to be extremely hard sitting across from someone you care a lot about, something that she understood completely.
"I'm just going to stay here and finish up, then I'm going to do some research for a project," she said as she kept her things on the table. Maybe after everyone left she would venture towards the back of the library and find her self lost in a corner with her thoughts.
Zeke nodded slowly. "If you want to," he said. He didn't want her to feel like she had to tell him now that she'd started - not that he thought she would if she didn't want to, actually. "Good. And thank you. For understanding." It amazed her, actually, that he could be so understanding. Mostly because he was a Gryffindor. Slytherins would understand. They all had the same mindset. Some had been through similar things. But this...this was...wow. "Em....would I still like you? Yes? Would I be forced to hex some sense into you? definitely." She grinned at him then. Yes, she could definitely see this going somewhere.

Zeke nodded. "Of course," he said. "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves..." he sang softly, laughing. He grinned back at her. Geez. He didn't realize he was going to like Camira so much when they met... but he certainly did.

Camira rolled her eyes, her slight smile giving away the fact that she wasn't actually annoyed or angry. "You're lucky the librarian here frightens me. I have a new spell I want to test out. Would have been perfect just now." He was so silly. In a good way. Definitely in a good way. "Though I must say. You have a very nice voice. I'm impressed, actually."

"Awwww, but it could be so much fun", she said mock sulkily, making sure to stick her bottom lip out into the perfect pout. Ah, years of practice..."Soooo, I'm bored. And it is your job to entertain me." What would he think of? Something fun, she hoped.
She grabbed a random book, the closest one to their table and flipped it open. Eck. Just her luck. Something about divination with fire. Yuck. Yep, she definitely needed some fun. "My sanity is in your hands", she muttered to him, dropping her face into the book.

She grabbed a random book, the closest one to their table and flipped it open. Eck. Just her luck. Something about divination with fire. Yuck. Yep, she definitely needed some fun. "My sanity is in your hands", she muttered to him, dropping her face into the book.
"Hmm. Entertainment. What type of thing do you have in mind?" Zeke asked. He wanted to make sure whatever he thought of would actually be something she'd want to do. But what? He kinda sucked at this whole thinking-up-stuff-to-do thing.

Camira shrugged, lifting her face back up. "I have no idea. That's why I'm asking you." Duh. "I know I don't want to read anything for a very long time. Is that helpful?" Probably not, but oh well.
He probably needed some time to think. So, in the mean time... She took out her mirror and took a look at herself. Hmm...more gloss. Gloss was always good. She grabbed the gloss out of her bag and slowly applied it to her lips. She rubbed her lips together and pouted into the mirror. Yep. There.
hehe methinks shifty group might have to meet again, just for the fun. :P

She said, smiling at them both politely before turning to Elizabeth as she gathered her things. " I'm kind of hungry. What about you, Elizabeth?" She said, giving her the indication that they were going to have to talk soon. Very, very soon.

Elizabeth wrote down a few more things in her notes, then glanced over them one last time before looking up again. It certaily looked like she'd be able to do a decent job on the assignment. And she knew she was going to have to, since otherwise Professor Truebridge might think she was slacking because she didn't take him seriously.
Smiling at Lyra, she said, "You're welcome," before shrugging slightly. "It was fun, for the most part." She nodded as the Huffie said she had some more stuff to do in the library, then turned to Mari as she spoke about being hungry. Her green eyes widened slightly as she sensed the hidden meanign behind the innocent question, but then nodded again. "Sure. I could use something to eat." She stood up, carefully gathering her notes and everything together, slipping everything but the library book into her school bag. She was sincerely curious about what all her friend would say to her, especially after the weirdness at the beginning of term. But she was also fairly certain that had been straightened out, somehow. Slinging the strap of her bag over her shoulder, she glanced at Robert once before she waited for Mari to indicate they were going to leave. It was proving to be difficult being in the middle of whatever was going on between her friends.

"Looks like all muggles have bad judgment," Aggie muttered to herself as she flipped the pages in the handout. "So, What would you suggest I put down for "my style" because my style is robes and pointy hats." She pulled out a spare piece of parchment and a quill and settled into the corner of her chair so she could see Sho better. "Nothing," she quickly added. "With Lace or flowers." Aggie did not do frilly.
Kira walked in to her favorite sanctuary and took a seat at one of the tables. She felt like she was about to collapse. She had stayed up last night studying
and was overwhelmed by all the talking. It was difficult to keep her eyes open. She thought of taking out one of her muggle books out. She sighed. Kira put her down.
Vanessa rarely did her homework out of the common room, and every blue moon when that happened, it was because she was doing it with Miles or was doing it outside.
But for what seemed like a first time, Vanessa had entered the library, to do her homework.
After looking for a care of magical creatures book, it would help if she new about kneazle's especially if she had to look after one, she wandered towards the study area, hoping to gain at least a little knowledge about the creature.
Placing the rather heavy book on the table with sigh, she pushed her brunette curls away from her face.
It was only then did she notice the familar locks of the one boy she really didn't want to see. Mainly because he probably didn't want to see her. Coughing awkwardly, she looked down at the book, knowing that he was going to notice her.
Hugo's nose was practically pressed against the book's yellowing paper. His emerald eyes were scanning the page eagerly, sucking in more information by the second. His brain was practically exploding! But he was so desperate to visit baby Georgie again soon, so he continued to read without interruption. He was even putting this before homework which was a first. His train of thought was rudely interrupted by someone coughing; couldn't they get some cough medicine or something? Honestly! It was a library for Merlin's sake! Forehead wrinkling grumpily, he lifted his head to give them a telling off.
"Oi! Keep it down! This is a lib--" Hugo was cut off when he realised who'd been making the noise. Oh brilliant. That was his reading session RUINED. "Oh. Hi Vannie," he mumbled, trying to look anywhere but her face.

Vanessa had really wished, she just picked the book, taken it out and rushed off back to the common room. At least there she wouldn't have to face him. She knew that Hugo and Miles had made up, and she was glad that they had. But it wasn't going to make the crumbling state of a friendship between Herself and Hugo any better. She was starting to think that there was not any hope left in the world of Hugo and herself being Friends. And it was a shame, because they probably could have been really good friends, if they'd only gotten along at first. And if Hugo hadn't had commitment problems.
Maybe she'd coughed a little loud, for Hugo, was beginning to tell her to quieten down, well that was before he noticed it was her. "Hello Hugo," She replied, almost too politely, as she sat down at the table, and opened her book. She read the first line, before looking up again, and over at Hugo.
"I think we need to talk."

"Hmm..." Zeke said thoughtfully. "Well, we could always take a walk by the lake or something." he suggested. Man. He REALLY sucked at this. He watched her put that lip stuff on curiously. Why do girls wear that? he thought. I will never understand them. Not that I don't like it. I just don't GET it.

Sho rose an eyebrow at Aggie's judgment. Well she didn't know much of the muggle world so it was just one of those things that Sho had to accept. He sat forward and thought about her question to try to give her a good recommendation.
"Well... You'd probably do well in jeans, t-shirts, probably things that are simple, but last long," he said before sitting back again, "Oh and maybe knit hats..."
