"Alright... Now that we talked about ME. Tell me about Paris- I mean Frigg." She giggled.

Cela beamed when the professor said all pretty girls were blonde and she nodded enthusiastically when Professor Lupa reiterated that Freya and Frigg could be the same goddess. Cela didn't think they were herself.

She raised her hand, "Frigg, like I said, is the highest goddess of the Æsir, and she was married to Odin. And all the stuff about her son Balder and the mistletoe and also Frigg had the power of prophecy even though she doesn't reveal it. She's a goddess of fertility, love, household management and domestic arts and is depicted as representative of the roles of wife and mother. She is the only one Odin lets sit in his special high seat where they can look out over the entire universe. She's kind of interesting because she shows up in astronomy, herbology/ potions and divination lore too; orion's belt is also known as Frigg's Distaff, A sedative plant called Galium verum was used to help with childbirth and was known as Frigg's grass and of course with her being able to see prophecies... well I just think thats pretty cool is all."

Crayola 03-07-2009 01:28 PM

All the pretty girls were blonde. Evangeline snorted under her breath, shaking her head at the woman. She sounded more of a teenager than Evangeline herself! And Evangeline was only 16 years old - not 448741212154.

Bleh.

Risking a sneaky glance in Clifford's direction - the first one since Lupa had turned her into a armless person - Evangeline raised her hand. "If Odin is the major god of Norse mythology, Frigg is the major goddess." The Slytherin Prefect solemnly said, in an attempt to keep most the dignity she had left. "Supposedly, she's the wife of Odin, and mainly appears in mythology as a wife and a mother. She is also said to have the power of prophecy, but I dont think she reveals what she knows.." Hmmmmmm. That was all she could remember. Sorta. "Oh! And she has two children, and alot of stepchildren." Stoopid Odin.

Hedwig18 03-07-2009 02:09 PM

Ana raised her hand "Frigg is a major goddess in Norse paganism, a subset of Germanic paganism. She is the wife of Odin, and is the "foremost among the goddesses". She has the power of prophecy yet she does not reveal what she knows. She is the only one other than Odin who is permitted to sit on his high seat Hlidskjalf and look out over the universe." she started "Frigg's children are Baldr and Höðr, her stepchildren are Thor, Hermóðr, Heimdall, Tyr, Vidar, Váli, and Skjoldr. Frigg's companion is Eir, a goddess associated with medical skills. Frigg's attendants are Hlín, Gná, and Fulla."

Angie 03-07-2009 02:18 PM

All the pretty girls are blonde? Oh, for crying out loud, that was hardly the case. Pursing her lips, and lifting her chin a little, the girl flipped her dark, long hair to the back, before raising her hand to reply. "Frigg is supposedly Odin's wife, Professor. And she she is also a mother of. . . a lot of people" A lot of people meaning she could not recall all those complicated names. "She is said to have the gift. Of prophecy, that is. However, she is most likely selfish because she refused to reveal what she knew." Clearly, she'd never read that, but that's just what she thought. "Oh, and it is also said that the word 'Friday' comes from the day Frigg. Sort of like a derivation."

Blondes prettier. Never had Willow heard such a ridiculous thing before, because it was very clear to her that brunettes were better. Way better.[/CENTER]

PhoenixRising 03-07-2009 02:54 PM

Dominic just stared befuddled when the Professor had said that blonds were prettier. Well that was quite bold of her to say, when he knew that of anyone, he was of course the prettiest of all. And his hair was definitely NOT blond. Visions of long dark hair also came to mind, which further declared his point to be true. If it hadn't been for the five points received and further determination for more ...

Raising his hand again, he spoke of what he knew about the next topic. "Frigg is another major goddess in Norse mythology who is both a wife and mother. She has the power of prophecy, but it is said that she does not reveal what knows."

Hollister 03-07-2009 04:32 PM

Mles raised his hand again, feeling quite proud of the five points. "Frigg is another major goddess of Norse Mythology, and is Odin's wife. She has two children, Baldr and Höðr."

Golden Monkey 03-07-2009 04:41 PM

William raised his hand, "Frigg, is the wife of Odin and is the foremost of the goddesses. I think she is also described as having the power of prophecy but she never reveals what she knows, which is smart I think. " he took a breath, his beard itching. "Frigg is I think also described as the only one other than Odin who is permitted to sit on his high seat Hlidskjalf and look out over the universe. " he stopped, not wanting to say too much as he continued to twirl his beard.

Cassirin 03-07-2009 04:43 PM

"Frigg was considered the goddess of married women," Copernicus offered with his hand up. "Which I suppose is why she's associated with what they call domestic arts, like spinning and the like. Which is a bit silly, if you ask me, because my mother was a married woman and she couldn't cook toast without burning it to save her life and never saw a spinning wheel." He bit his lip to shut up the sidebar rambling. "As for her refusal to share her visions of prophecy, I don't consider that to be selfish. To know the future is to have the power to change it, and the truly wise accept that this sort of meddling is dangerous. She probably realized that by sharing what she saw, she would in fact be causing it to change."

Five more points?!?! Ancient Runes is frazzling awesome! Thrilled at her sudden success in the subject she'd always been nearly clueless in, Anna raised her hand to answer the question about Frigg. "Frigg, the Norse mother goddess, was the wife of Odin. She was the queen of the heavens, as well as being the goddess of love and the household. People quite often confuse her with Freya, as well," Anna explained. "Let's see....she's one of the most important goddesses in the Germanic religion, bears a likeness to the Roman goddess Venus, and actually has a Latin day of the week named after her...Friday."

Lissy Longbottom 03-07-2009 05:08 PM

Cale raised his hand again. Was it just him, or was Lupa a bit less...interested him than the last time they had met? Gahh, this professors were making his head spin lately. "Well, Frigg was the wife of Odin, so naturally she was another important goddess in Nordic mythology. She was also a mother, and had the power of foresight. Although it's believed that she never shared her visions with anyone. Oh, and I think they named Friday after her as well--I dunno how you get Friday from Frigg but I think that's pretty cool," he said with a grin.

Mrs. Weasley 03-07-2009 05:40 PM

Abby raises her hand. "It seems Freya and Frigg are both the goddess of love and fetility in Norse Mythology. Frigg is the patron of marriage and motherhood. I guess that why she tried so hard to prevent her son, Balder from dying. The similarities between the two goddesses probably is because each share the same positon in the different groups of gods. Frigg is the highest goddess of the Aesir. Freya is the highest goddess of the Vanir

LadyNerd 03-08-2009 01:05 AM

Lyra beamed proudly as the professor said that blondes were prettier. Well, they did have more fun, at least she seemed to have more fun than most...brunettes...except for Agie of course, but that girl had to secretly be a blonde, she just knew it to be true.

When the professor asked about Figg, everyone seemed to speak before she could answer but there was one thing she wanted to say. "Frigg may have known other's destiny but she never unveiled it," she chimed in as she tilted her head. "Smart lady!"

Paris beamed that she was earning points. She was usually the one in the back of the room sleeping because all this stuff went over her head, but they were talking about mythology and she loved that. She wished they could take about the Greek gods or the Egyptian ones they were the best in her book. She raised her hand. "She is the only other person allowed to sit on Odin's throne. She spins clouds also. She has the power of prophecy but she doesn't tell people what she knows. Which could help people, but like most of the gods they weren't overly concerned with the plight of human beings. But the Norse gods were way better than the Greek ones who tried to keep fire from man, and then actually punish Promethiums when he gave the humans fire." Ok she had hopped on her soap box for a minute. "Frigg also unknowingly gives Loki the one thing that could kill her son, mistletoe." She mentioned.

Herminny just scowled at the thought that blonds were perttier, she always felt everyone was pretty in their own way and just being themselves made them beautiful, but the only thing that made a person georgious in her opinion is to be a genuinly nice good person.

Then Herminny started to think about the question at hand which was who was Frigg, she had heard that name before from a book she had read at the library but she could not for the life of her remember who she was so she opened up her textbook to to the Index and looked up the name Freya and turned to page and raised her hand to give an answer:

"Frigg is a very high up goddess who is a wife and mother who has the power to tell anyones future but she will not reveal to anyone their future. Also another perk she has being so high up among the God's is that she is one of two gods, her and her husband Odin who is permitted to sit in the highest god Hildskjalf high seat and look over the universe, cool to see in this case the women god is equal to the man god".

ooc: I am soooooooooooo sorry. I was going to my father in law for a few hours, and the pipe under his sink burst and my hubby and him spent all day looking for parts and trying to fix it. Wasted my WHOLE day.

Gross. "OOH! And he can do this cool thing where she knows everyone's destiny or something.. but she never tells anyone."

"She was responsible for making clouds and sunshine and stuff... and she was supposed to be responsible for spinning the Fates, too I think. Or weaving them, or something... she could see the future, but she couldn't change it." That wouldn't be very fun, he thought. Knowing stuff but being unable to change it... "It's said that she's the one who first made runes to use for divination. And she's the goddess associated with the New Year." He glanced at his book and frowned. "That story about the mistletoe... is it true that the legend says that Loki made Baldur's brother throw the dart? Hodor was the God of Darkness, so he couldn't see what he was doing, and Loki pretended to be nice and got him to throw the dart at Baldur." His frown disappeared, though, when he remembered something he'd thought was silly. "Her sacred animal was the goose." Raiden didn't like geese. He thought they were evil creatures, running around honking and snapping their beaks at people... "Geese aren't very nice, so I don't know why she would pick them..."

"I KNOW! RIGHT!" She said nodding. "K, so five points for you as well."

And I don't want to hear about the muggle comic book Thor... he was blonde... the REAL Norse god Thor was a ginger... with a ginger beard."

TeafortheSoul 03-08-2009 04:08 AM

Celandine raised her hand happily, "Thor is the son of Odin and Jord, the earth goddess. He was a big gingery guy and had eyes like lightning! He liked to indulge in food and drink too. He ended up being more popular than Odin, his father; because he didn't require human sacrifice and thats just got to be better, right? And Thor is sort of like a weather god. He rules the air. Thunder and lightning and wind and rain and nice weather and good crops and growing seasons. Oh he has a day too, Thursday! He was supposed to be the strongest of the Æsir and his hall, Bilskirnir was in 'the place of might'. He had a big old hammer called Mjollnir and even though he was a god and the strongest of the gods, he needed iron gloves and a special belt of strength called Megingjard to actually wield it. The Norse people believed that Thor rode throught the skies during thunderstorms in his chariot which was pulled by toothy goats! And lightning? Thats from Thor throwing his hammer." Cela explained all she knew about Thor and smiled brightly at Professor Lupa. Oh she was so coooool!

druidflower 03-08-2009 04:12 AM

Tobi raised his hand again, gamely trying to answer the question, “Thor was the Son of Odin, and Jord,a Giantess, though some accounts say Earth Goddess and who am I to really know? He had a wife, at least two sons, and daughter, and a mistress, I don’t care much for it, but adultery is a rather prevalent practise among the gods, and maybe he had extenuating circumstances, I don’t know. he owned a short-handled hammer, called Mjolnir, which when thrown at an object or a person, it returns to its owner much like a boomerang would. Thor had poems and prose written about him, and even saga’s making him not unlike the Greek hero Herakles, or the Roman Hercules, though while the Greek and Roman stories of that hero are more or less identical, stories of Thor’s are comparatively original.”

Another five points?!?! Ancient Runes was getting more and more awesome by the minute! Nevermind the fact that the professor was acting no older than an eleven-year-old. She was handing out house points left and right, and that made her extremely cool in Anna's book! Anna raised her hand and said, "Thor, the god of Thunder, was an old, highly respected divine being. He was also the protector of both peasants and warriors, as well as a God connected to marriage and agriculture" Anna said. "Because he was so powerful, Thor is often seen as having also been fearless and armed with a magical hammer, iron gloves, and a belt of strength. His magical hammer automatically returned to him whenever he threw it. Pretty cool, huh? For some reason, although I'm not sure why, he was also seen as being a tad unintelligent. Oh, and he's also responsible for the German Jove's Day being called Thursday."

Hedwig18 03-08-2009 04:14 AM

Ana raised her hand "Thor is the God of the Thunder in Germanic mythology and Germanic paganism." she started "He's known by his redhair, bearbed and weapon and is son of Odin and Jord and husband of Sif." she said "... and he is mention in runestones"

Lissy Longbottom 03-08-2009 04:15 AM

Cale raised his hand. Another five points! He was on fire! "Well, Thor was the god of Thunder in Norse Mythology. His main weapon of choice was this thing called Mjolnir, and he had a wife named Sif," he added. Hmmm, what else could he say? "He was the son of Odin and Jord, and he traveled by chariot."

Mrs. Weasley 03-08-2009 04:32 AM

Abby raises her hand. "Thor is the god of thunder and is one of the most powerful gods. His parents are Odin and Jord. Thor is married to Sif, but also had a giantess mistress named Jarnsaxa. They had two sons, Magni and Modi. The Norse believed that during thunderstorms Thor rode through the heavens on his chariot which was pulled by two goats. Lightening flashed whenever he threw his hammer, Mjollnir. Here's a picture of Thor."

Completely ignoring the fact that a boy was revolving in the air, for Willow was still annoyed over the Professor's comment about blondes, the girl focused on her question, her teeth, once again, gnawing on her bottom lip.

Bad habit. Ugh.

And what was Lupa ranting about a Muggle comic book? Not even paying attention to that explanation, the girl raised her hand, and said, "The Might Thorr, according to Germanic Mythology, is supposedly the God of Thunder, professor." Seriously, how many Gods did these people have? "Also, his weapon became some kind of symbol of Norse paganism during. . . some events that happened in Scadinavia." She couldn't quite remember what events were, but Willow was sure it was something like that.

Plymouth sometimes got distracted when he was reading. He raised his hand and sang,

"I said its like thunder
Its like lightning
The way you love me is frightening..." And, let Plymouth tell you, the way this professor loved him -- it was INDEED frightening!

And then Plymouth paused to knock on his desk. Then he finished,

"I think I better knock, knock, knock ... on wood."

"You know that song, Professor? I bet it was written for Thor. You know, god of Thunder... Lightning in his eyes.... Knocking on wood with his wicked violent hammer. Cool dude."

Herminny raised her hand and said, "Thor is the god of thunder, his existence came from a quite intresting way, it's pretty obvious pagan gods had one wife but multiple partners but I did not expect that the gods partnered with giants, but this is how Thor came to be, Odgin and giantess Jord made Thor.
Thor ended up being just like his father taking one wife Siff and having other partners including giants but being half giant it does make it a little less weird.
Thor had a son and a daugter with his giantess mistress Jarnsaxa and one son with his wife Siff. But more impotantly Thor was a fighter, he was at the center of almost all the pagan tales but thats obvious considering his backround cause it shapes quite big being which is Thor and also being half the perfection of a god he was born to be fighter".

THOR! When was it Clifford's turn to go in the air? With a shrug, the Prefect raised his hand. "Thor is the god of thunder, rain and farming," Clifford started, hand in the air. "He was the strongest of the norse gods. How cool is that? OOH! And he loved food and drink! Like me!" Oh yes, Clifford had a nice healthy appetite!
