Heading into the Great Hall, you notice that all the tables have been pushed to the sides of the room and replaced with rows of between 30 and 40 desks. The room has been arranged in a manner that would induce learning. In the front of the room, there were a few stacks of mats that would be utilized later, along with hoops and other equipment. No evidence of any professor is present in the room at the moment.

ooc: You may post arriving if you'd like, but note that the lesson won't start until 8pm EST (about 16 hours away). Keep chatting to a minimum! Thanks

Qaz had taken a few notes...the question caught her by surprise.

She started writing,
1. Juneau, Alaska
2. Cancun, Mexico
3. Rio de Janiero, during Carnival
4. Fort Knox
5. The Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are kept
6. The Louvre
7. The Smithsonian Institute, Air & Space Museum

That was a good start.

After listening to the department head's instructions, Vanessa stared at her parchment, thinking of where she would like apparate to if she could go anywhere in the world. There were a lot of places she could go.
Picking up her quill she quickly wrote something down.

Hrmmmmmmm, anywhere in the world eh? It actually wasn't as easy as one thought at a frist glance. Tapping his chin, Terry quickly scrawled out an answer:

Eh, if you required us to answer with an ACTUAL place, then I'd prolly have to say somewhere freezing cold but beautiful at the same time. Maybe Switzerland? But for a REAL challenge, I'd go with the Antarctic. Imagine being able to go sledging 24/7 with no fear of the snow melting? Plus there's all them sooper-awesome penguins...

Lyra dipped her quill in the ink and began to write on her parchment. This was probably the easiest of any question ever asked and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what she would write if anyone knew her at all.

Freya rested her chin in her left hand, 'Anywhere I want...that's not tough.'She began to scribble on a piece of parchment,

Also, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Russia, Norway...in any of those places I would go where I can find a forest to hide in and get away from people for a while. That would be nice. Just writing it down made her feel a little better. Freya sighed, thinking about how she missed the woods back home...it was so peaceful and quiet. She thought for a moment, 'Why haven't I apparated to any of those places yet? Oh, duh, that's right...the one is blocked and I've been too busy for anything aside from work.'

Lorraine observed all the students writing down their destinations. Some seemed to writing books whereas others seemed to just settle for a sentence or two. It was really fascinating how nothing had really changed in those regards of how much one wrote from when she was a student. Naturally, being the overachiever that she was, she was the one to write a book.

Hazel eyes flickering back towards Anna, the department head smiled amusingly when the girl seemed flustered by her gaze and sank down in her chair before she began to question her for questioning her name. And then got defensive too; it was sort of cute actually and something of which sounded similar to how she would have remembered Alexander over twenty years ago. "Oh Anna, your antics are quite similar. I should have known, but it's nothing to be defensive over," she explained, glancing down briefly at her watch. Ten minutes left... "Rather I just went to school with your father. We were in Slytherin House together." Offering a brief smile of comfort towards the young Prefect, Lorraine then turned her attention towards the rest of the class.

Clasping her hands together, she tried to recall what was to come next in the lesson as there wasn't too much more to go. "Anyway, now that you've all written down your destination, I've just a few more orders of business to go over with you. As you have all mentioned so kindly, destination is where you want to go. In apparition, this refers to the place that one is going or their attention is directed. It is the ultimate beginning for learning to apparate, because if you have no intentions of your directions, then you don’t know where you will go."

"The same thing goes with school and a career path. I do realize that this is apparition lessons, but there is never any harm about discussing this, as you're all nearly ready to enter the world as full grown wizards and witches. But the point is that you need some direction in your life to know when you need to study more or practice quidditch more or just invent more. The purpose for learning to focus on a destination - a place that you want to go when you are able to apparate, is to remind you all to never give up on your dreams. Sure you might have a million and one dreams, but you really need to focus on one at a time, to accomplish one feat. Whether that be completing your OWLs or winning the quidditch cup," Lorraine glanced around at each of the students, while walking slowly across the front of the room. "When we have you finally will begin the process of apparating in your third and final lesson, I want you all to remember to maintain focus on one place in your mind. The more focused you are on a destination, then the less likely for splinching and other problems to occur."

"Now. Before we depart for the day, then I want to pose you each one more question, which might seem simple to some of you," the brunette continue. "Are you allowed to apparate on the Hogwarts grounds? And what do you hypothesize would be the reason for this?"

Ludo smiled as the Department Head witch, who'd been rather quiet, made announcements to the class.
He smiled as she turned the lesson towards career goals. But he became captivated as she mentioned O.W.L.s, which he'd already done well on. When mention of the Quidditch cup arose, he looked to Liz and flashed a sly smile.

The Department Head ended with asking a question. Ludo was instantly reminded of a trip to the Library he'd taken in his earlier years at Hogwarts and the copy of Hogwarts a History he'd been lucky enough to read.
He raised his hand and said, "Miss? According to noted works, witches and wizards are unable to Apparate in or out of school grounds due to heavy enchantment. I suppose this is a security measure to keep unwanted persons away."

"No one can aparate or disaparate in the castle or on Hogwart's ground. I think it is probably both a security and a safety measure. Security in that it prevents people you don't want sneaking into Hogwarts from being able to sneak in. A safety measure because it prevents students from trying to aparate and disaparate. Since most of the students here at Hogwarts are new to aparating, it prevents them from performing unsupervised aparations. This means the staff won't have students trapped in walls, body parts spliced and other problems that can occur when novice, unlicenced students try to aparate unsupervised."

Elizabeth raised her hand again. "Even in the time of Professor Dumbledore, even he had to go outside the gates of Hogwarts in order to Apparate or Disapparate. In a way, it helps keep track of everyone, since there are enchantments on the gates, so odds are, anyone leaving in order to go elsewhere by Apparation would be noticed. And it works both ways, since people coming in would have to Apparate on the outside and then enter on foot, or by other mode of transportation. So it is definitely a security measure, since it limits traffic in and out of the school."

A place where she would like to be right now? Well, Mrs. Brothwhat's-her-name could not have asked for an easiest thing to do. Really, knew very well where she would want to be:

Well, she would want to be in her bed back in the Ravenclaw Dormitories one because she was tired, and two because anywhere would be better than this apparition lesson. At least they had not forced them to appareate. Yet.

Not even bothering to answer the woman's question --for three people had already done so, and that was more than enough-- Willow simply waited for the class to dismissed.

Lorraine nodded at the three students who spoke up. "You're all quite correct about that. No witch or witch is allowed to apparate in or out of school grounds due to heavy enchantments, which is definitely a security measure. But then, I have to also leave you with one last question to think about while on the topic of security at Hogwarts; my department at the Ministry modulates the Floo Network as well. People ARE allowed to floo into and out of Hogwarts; if Apparition is prohibited because of this so-called 'security', then why is Floo transit permitted?" The brunette finished with then looking at each student present in the hall.

"Please think about that question and feel free to submit those responses to me at the Ministry. Thank you all for a good first lesson and I look forward to seeing you in a month or two!" Lorraine commented lastly, as her heels clicked their way to the large doors of the great hall, where she waited to offer them all an exit greeting, before she would fix the room back to how it was normally and then depart through Hogsmeade back to London.

Ugh. This people and their Floo network. Kaika had disliked the fireplaces for too long, until she found out how not to get too dirty traveling through them. Still, brooms were always preferred. And those airplanes the muggles had were quite an invention, and quite comfortable too.

So, why bother with the rest? Ummm, right, because you can't get to all the places by using just one method of transportation. Not even the muggles could do that.

That's one thing she didn't like about returning home, all the traveling, first on train, then the bus, then the Floo network, it tended to be exhausting.

But, waaaaiiit, it was time to leave, now? Awesome! She stood up and headed to the exit, "Thank you, Miss Department Head" her name was too complicated to remember, "See you next time, then" she said, as she waved goodbye.

As Lorraine waited at the door for the students, she smacked her hand against her forehead at the question of one female. OH! How could she forget THAT!?

Musing at her forgetfulness, she nodded at the young girl, Qaz - interesting name. "Oh yes, thank you for that reminder. Such an honest young student you are," she smiled briefly to the girl before turning to address the group one last time.

Conjuring a small jar from thin air, the brunette nodded at the young Hufflepuff Captain. "You're quite welcome, but just one minute," she replied nonchalantly.

"Please, on your way out, leave your 12 galleons in this jar here with your name on a slip of parchment so that I know you've paid. If you forgot money today, then just bring it next time..." Lorraine told the students, having the jar out in front of her to collect the money.

Abby looks in her purse. She was lucky her parents had sent her some money this week about 24 galleons. Abby writes her name on a piece of parchment. "Great lesson, I can't wait for the next one," Abby says as she drops her piece of parchment and her twelve galleons in Ms. Brothmeister's jar.

Oh! Of course! Kaika couldn't believe she forgot about that. Her face turned a bit pink as she placed the galleons in the jar. Oops.

A nice lettering was written in the parchment Miss Department Head gave them to sign, it clearly read 'Kaika Lockhart', because she already paid.

And, now...she was done, was she? Yes, so it seems, "Soooo, see you, Miss" she said, exiting the Great Hall, hoping for another lesson involving the theory and not so much the practice.

Qaz reached into her bag and pulled out an envelope containing 12 galleons. Her name was neatly printed on the outside. Qaz placed the envelope in the jar and exited.

Ludo stood up to leave. He reached for his robe pocket and pulled out a bag of gold his parents had sent for his lessons.
He plucked 12 galleons and dropped them into the jar as he collected his things.

"Thank you Miss. See you next month." And with that, Ludo headed for the doors out of the Hall.
