Default Important Potions Announcement

ooc: This is going to be an experiment. We'll see how it goes and if everyone enjoys it and I don't have to spend half my time deleting posts and berating people for posting in the wrong class then I'd like to continue teaching this way. If it doesn't work out, either because I'm not keeping up, the students are having a bad time, or just won't stay out of the classes they shouldn't be posting in, then I'll just call it a failed experiment and go back to the usual way of doing things. I have a plan for continuing in this manner so, hopefully we all hold up our ends of the bargain.

ATTENTION POTIONS STUDENTS

This term, we will be splitting the classes up into three groups:

Beginner Potions - First, Second, & Third year students ONLY
This class is intended to be an introduction to the basics of potion brewing with an emphasis on basic technique, safety, theory, and procedures. Simple potions will be used as examples in order to practice what is learned.

OWL Level Potions - Fourth & Fifth year students ONLY
This class is intended to prepare students for their OWL exams. Emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of potion brewing and more advanced potions will be studied and brewed.

NEWT Level Potions - Sixth & Seventh year students ONLY
Only the most gifted and devoted students will make it into this most advanced class. This class is intended, not only to prepare students to take their NEWT exams, but to give students enough knowledge and technique to begin developing their own potions. Emphasis is placed on identifying potions and their contents, developing antidotes, and formulation of new, unique, potions.

Please only attend those classes for your year. Others will be asked to leave and their Head of House will be notified.

OOC NOTE: You MUST have your year listed in your profile so, that I know you are posting where you belong. Failure to do so, or posting in the wrong class, will result in the deletion of your post(s). If you are caught changing your year just to post in classes you don't belong in, you may be expelled at the discretion of the headmistress (I do not abide cheaters and neither does my character).

You may ask any ooc questions about how class will work here. Please do not ask when class will start. I start class when I have a few hours free to run it.

Will you have a book with potions ingredients and directions, or links? Some of us have found it difficult to mix the potion without anything to go by.

Technically technical all the time Bookaholic

I will always give you all the information you need. Whenever there is no canon information and I ask the class for answers, I fully expect people to google or just make stuff up off the top of their heads. Some of the best lessons I ever taught were based off my students' imaginations. I tend to use the general known uses of things and then make the rest up. Also, many people don't realize this but, students don't know everything and I also enjoy playing with people who aren't know-it-alls (which is usually the entire class, which makes for very boring RP, in my opinion- what's the fun if you don't have an exploding cauldron every once in a while?). With that said, it isn't realistic for each class to be a disaster either and many characters really are that smart.

As far as books go: I did have several posted back before I switched to charms for a few terms but, the potions master during that time deleted them. It has always been a goal of mine to finish those books and repost them. The books contained information from every class I'd ever taught (or that was the intention- I believe there were only 4 of the ten or so total terms I've taught included).
