| | Herbology Lesson Two: Potting Puffapods Come in come in come in! You're nice and early to Herbology today and you notice that, as usual, the greenhouse is set up in a quasi-classroom style. Sturdy black lab tables are lined up end-to-end with the middle aisle kept clear for the professor to stroll up and down. The front of the classroom has the same blackboard set up but today you notice some curly, pink writing on it. Quote: "HELLO PEEPS! Take a seat and don't start playing with the dirt yet. Kthxbye." Interesting. As you take a seat at a table, you notice medium-largish terra cotta pots sitting in front of each work station. The pots have been magically charmed into your professor's favorite shade of pink and have three holes in their bottoms.
At the end of each row of desks is a large container of healthy, home-grown composty dirt with a just a little dragon dung mixed in. Hope you brought your gloves.
Class will begin whenever Miss Bunbury arrives. |

| lives in a hobbit hole || Ern and Touz's Nuzzle || roflysst || looking at a seed packet Do you have any caramels or peppermint toads, professor? Celandine chewed on her lip thoughtfully and checked her gloves again. She'd prefer to put her bare hands in the soil, but there was no waaaay she was risking shocking anyone. Particularly the professor.
Cela filled the pot with soil, sighing occassionally and sending little puffs of dirt into the air each time. Once it was 3/4 full, Cela flicked her wand and cast "Aguamenti." she was glad that she knew that charm already and proud since it was a sixth year conjuring charm. She only let the soil get damp, not sloppy, before putting her wand away.
Cela looked at the puffapods- her gaze tripping past a few particular people - and she guessed at how big she should make the hole. She got a puffapod and following the directions, carefully tugged the plant free at the base being gentle with the roots and brushing the dirt free to leave as many intact as possible. She shook the dirt off and went to transfer it into the new pot.
She had to put a little more dirt in to keep it from sinking before massaging the roots gently and spreading them out. She sighed again, really wanting candy.

Chris smiled at the Professor ad began to get to work. He started to fill his post with the soil/compost mixture. He poured to it was 3/4 full. He used his gloved hand to make sure it was loose and not packed in to tightly that the plant's roots could grow and so the water will seap into it. He then removed a dirt covered glove and pulled out his wand. With a flick he said "Aguamenti." a light stream of clear water came from the tip of his wand. He made the dirt nice and moist but not too watery that the puffapod plant would drowned. He put his wand down back on the lab table and put his dirty glove back on and started to dig with it to make a good enough sized hole for his plant.
"This is a great activity Professor Bunbury!Am I doing ok so far?" he asked her as she passed by indicating the moisture and depth of his hole.
He then walked over to the tub of puffapods and picked one he liked. He took his glovedd hands and loosened some of the dirt away from the root area and pulle gently upwards, helping the plant come loose. When he held the dangling plant to eye leel he saw all the excess dirt hanging form the tiny roots. He gently shook the dirt back into the tub he got the plant from and walked slowly back to his station, setting it in its new home he had made it. To his excitemne he had made the hole just big enough and only had to expand its width at the bottom for a little more room for the roots. Chris then touched the tiny roots and moved his finger over them and the dirt to spread them. He then reached into the bag of fertiliezer and added some fresh soil to to cover the roots of the plant. He made a little mound around the stem so no roots would show. He then pulled his wand out again and did the Aguamenti spell to shower the plant lightly with water.

Right, he grabbed his wand and said Aguamenti.
But just his luck, and maybe due to the excitement he is feeling right now, water poured literally from the wand to the pot. It is as if a pail of water was poured on it.
Daniel raised his hand, Professor, can I get a new pot to use? I messed up mine. he said. Bunbury was in such a good mood that not even a little water mess could bring her down. "Oh dear, no no, you don't need a new pot," she shook her head at the boy. "Just a little clean-up."
With a wave of her wand, the Vanishing spell cleaned his workstation right up. "There, good as new. Try and be more careful this time." Bunbunz winked at the boy and then wandered off again, starting to hum that tune she had mentioned to Plymouth.
"You're doing just fine, Chris," she added toward the young Gryffindor. "Just remember to take your time."

Hogwarts RPG Name: *whistle* | NeeNee Omniscient Omnipotent Pie Maker Tobi petulantly grabbed his pot and filled it with his compost/soil/dung/whatever he considered turning around and hucking it at Kettleburn, but that might draw undue attention.
Instead be drew his wand and muttered, "Aguamenti," moistening the soil, for once without incident.
He got up to select a Puffapod. As far as plants go, they weren't so bad. They didn't do weird unnatural plant things. He plucked one from the batch and turned around to face the seats. Most unfortunately he caught sight of Kettleburn.
Impulsively he decided to take a roundabout way back to his seat, so that he would pass behind Kettleburn's desk enroute.
As he passed, he stuck his elbow far out, smacking Kettleburn hard in the back of the head. "Oh, sorry," he sneered and continued walking.

1) After adding gravel (durr I did that for ya), fill your pot with the soil/compost mixture about 3/4 way full. Use your gloves here to put the soil IN the pot.
2) Water the soil completely but not enough that it becomes like mud. Use aguamenti here.
3) Create a hole about the size of your new plant in the fertilized pot. Gloves again, people, you're not getting off easy with any trowels.
4) Now go get a puffapod. Carefully, gripping the plant at the base of its stem, remove the puffapod from its old home. MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL ITS ROOTS (or as many as possible without damaging other plants around it). These plants don’t have many roots to begin with so BE CAREFUL!
5) Shake a little bit of excess dirt off, if there is any. Shake shake, shake shake a-shake it over the tub, please.
6) Carry the plant to its new pot and set it inside the hole you created, guesstimating to make sure there's enough room for all its roots. Make sure it doesn't sink (otherwise you'll need more dirt in the hole).
7) Retaining a hold on the plant being transplanted, gently massage its roots until they are loose and spread out in the hole you made.
8) Carefully fill in the space over the roots/around the base of the plant with more fresh, fertilized soil.
9) Pat the dirt up around the base of the plant because you don't want any exposed roots.
10) WATER the PLANT. Aguamenti again.
Hmm that doesn't seem too hard, Sakura thought. She quickly wrote the instructions down on a spare piece of parchment so she wouldn't have to keep looking up at the board, before putting on her green gloves. Grabbing a pretty pink pot Sakura then filled it to the desired level.
Looking down at her next instruction she quickly said, "Aguamenti." Once she percieved the soil was in the desired condition she made a whole about as big as she estimated the plant would be. Right now to get the Puffapod.
Walking over to where they were she quickly gripped it gently but firmly at the base and pulled, making sure to get all the roots, shaking off the excess dirt, before walking back over to her pot. Placing it in the pot she was glad to see that she had dug and apparently left enough room. She then massaged the roots gently while still holding the plant. Once they were all separated she filled the area with more fertilizer and dirt, making sure to be careful around the roots and base. Once that was done she patted it all down. Sakura saw that one of the roots wasn't covered completely and so she got a little more of the dirt/fertilizer mixture and applied it with the same caution as before, relieved to see that the root was now covered.
Now for the final step. She had to perform Aguamenti again. Saying the spell Sakura watered her plant, making sure that she didn't overdo it. Ending the spell she stood back and admired the plant. She was also relieved to note that she hadn't gotten too dirty in the process of potting the plant.

She smiled warmly at the boy and then wandered past Plymouth toward the next student. William smiled, relief writted on his young face. "Thanks professor." He said as he got up and grabbed a pot, the gloves still on his hands and started. First the dirt, which he began adding slowly, his measurements exact. At 3/4 full he took a breath, and took out his wand.
He practiced the stiff flicking motion first before attempting the spell "Aquamenti!" He said in a confident voice as he stiffly flicked his wand. A think stream of water trickled out of his wand and he grinned. "Well it's something." he said to himself. He carefully waited until the small amount of dirt was moist, but not too moist before stopping. Placing his wand on the table beside his pot, he placed his hand into the moist mound and gently made a deep impression.
Now for the puffapod. From what he knew of them these ones were perfect for potting. the roots were just beginning to form which meant a bigger pot was needed. He walked over and found the perfect pod for him. Carefully he gripped it and gently tugged it out of it's place, shaking the excess dirt off.
When he had gotten it cleaned off and had all the roots he could see he walked over and stopped at his pot, frowning. Gently he placed the pod into its new home, humming softly as he did so and gently arranged the few roots around so they weren't cluttered.
He felt weird massaging it but he did so, the roots moving into their respective spots. Then he began filling the rest of the pot with dirt, being careful not to disturb it. The fertilizer was nasty stuff and he coughed a few times but it was soon full and he was happy with it.
Flicking his wand once more he said "Aquamenti." and another stream flowed into the pot, watering it until it was good to go. Putting his wand down he stopped, "How's this professor?" He asked, raising his hand. A smudge of dirt was on his cheek he didn't know about.

Cale chuckled at how giddy the professor seemed today--totally opposite of how she had been acting that day in the library. Sighhhhh. Watching her every move with interest, he looked up at the board as she placed the instructions on there. Now was his chance to show her how much she was teaching him! He was learning more in these two lessons than he had in his last two years at school, mainly cause she made it oh so much easier to pay attention.
Rolling up his sleeves and pulling on his gloves, he started filling his pot with soil, completely covering all the gravel at the bottom of the pot. Once that was accomplished, he pulled out his wand and pointed it at the soil. "Augmenti," he muttered, watching as the small stream of water started pouring out of his wand. Ugghhh, gross. He hated nasty, wet soil. Putting his gloves on again, he made a nice little hole before grabbing his puffapod and gently pulling it out of the pot by it's stem, making sure he got all the roots. He vaguely remembered doing this last year, but it wasn't nearly as successful as this planting was turning out to be.

Plymouth couldn't be SURE, but it was becoming PRETTY clear that THE Bunbury was way into Plymouth. He was just calling it like he saw it.
He was all happy grins as he did things a LITTLE out of order. Plymouth went to get his Puffapod FIRST. "Heyyy Puffy! My name's Plymouth, Plymouth Glen Morgan. But don't call me Glen. I want call you Pod, if you don't call me Glen. I'm going to re-pot you, little buddy, okay?"
Plymouth bounced the plant like he would a baby and used his wand to water it. "Sprinkle sprinkle, little buddy!" He used one of the big leaves to wave at various people, including the Professor, his girlfriend, and Copernicus. "Say hellllloooooooo, Puffapod!"
And, he worked hard, very hard. |

Celandine carefully added fresh soil and filled in the space left in the pot, being sure not to leave any roots exposed and patting the soil up to keep the roots covered right to the base. She flicked her wand, "Aguamenti," she cast again, watering the plant just enough. Cela brushed her gloves off and looked around.

Daphne meticulously rolled up her sleeves and slipped her hands into her light pink gloves. She playfully wiggled her fingers as she walked over to grab some soil. It seemed very strange not to use a trowel, that was after all the most convenient tool for this job. She dug her hands into the bag of soil and piled it into her matching pink pot.
Some of the soil managed to find its way out of her hand and all over her clean school robes, causing her to whisper several crude phrases, audible to those immediately surrounding her. She tried shaking the dirt off in what looked like a strange dance, but it remained stuck to her black robes. She reluctantly continued until the pot was 3/4 filled, as the Professor instructed.
Finished with that, Daphne quickly removed her gloves and went about dusting herself off. The last thing she needed was for the dirt to smudge into the fabric. After all, she did need to wear these for the remainder of the day, and no sense looking like a vagabond.
Robes presentable, Daphne grabbed her wand from her pocket. She wished the Professor would have set up watering cans, the aguamenti charm was rather difficult, and she still didn't feel up to performing something quite that complicated after her wrist injury. Though it was all healed, it still ached from time to time, and some of her mobility was limited. This made her spellwork more difficult than it would be for another student.
She took a deep breath, as she always did before attempting a spell she wasn't confident with, and pointed her wand, tip into the pot. "Aguamenti," she declared in a firm and authoritative voice. A few drops of water trickled out of her wand and seeped into the soil. She closed her eyes and sighed. This wasn't going to be so easy.

Anna had really, really wanted to ask the professor a certain question, but she figured she'd probably lose points or get into trouble if she raised her hand and asked where she could purchase a pair of those pretty pink boots the professor had worn to class today. Anna sighed softly and glanced at the boots one more time. Those boots sure did look pretty awesome...
Anna watched as the message on the blackboard changed to a specific set of instructions. She read them carefully, wondering just why they were so specific, and then got straight to work. She began by filling her pot with the appropriate amount of soil, making sure that she spread it out evenly enough to cover all the bits of gravel. Raising her wand and aiming it toward the pot, Anna casted Aguamenti to water the soil. Using her gloves, Anna dug a puffapod-sized hole in the pot.
Seeing that she was now ready for a puffapod, Anna left her workstation and headed towards the pretty pink puffapods. She glanced at them carefully, trying to chose the one that she felt was just perfect for her. When she'd chosen her puffapod, Anna gripped the plant at the base of its stem and gently removed it from the container it had been in. She studied the roots of her puffapod for a moment, trying to determine whether or not she'd been successful in taking care of the roots and keeping them all intact. Satisfied with how she'd done, Anna began shaking the excess dirt off her plant. She watched as the dirt flew from the puffapod and landed in the tub.
Satisfied with how she'd performed that step, Anna carried the plant to the pot she'd prepared. She examined the hole she'd made and the roots of the puffapod she'd chosen. She frowned as she noticed that her little hole was about half the size it needed to be to accomodate the puffapod. With her free hand, Anna dug until her hole had grown to a size that would fit the her pretty little plant. She then placed the plant inside the hole and immediately began working with the roots to make sure they were given enough room. Hmmm...this was turning out to be a bit easier than she'd thought. This just might be the year she brings up her not-so-great Herbology marks!
Anna then took a bit more soil and filled in the spaces over the roots and around the base of the plant. Just two more steps, and she'd be done! With her gloved hand, Anna patted the dirt around the base of the plant, making sure none of the roots were exposed. When it appeared that all roots were completely packed in and hidden from view, Anna raised her wand once again and casted Aguamenti, giving her plant that last little bit of water it would need. Hopefully she'd done all the steps correctly...

"You're doing just fine, Chris," she added toward the young Gryffindor. "Just remember to take your time." Daniel smiled as the professor helped to clean his station. "Thank you very much, Professor."he said with a big grin on his face.
He then looked one more time on the instructions. Quote:

9) Pat the dirt up around the base of the plant because you don't want any exposed roots.
10) WATER the PLANT. Aguamenti again.
After doing so, he started over again. He put a 3/4 full compost into the pot. He carefully conjured the charm Aguamenti. Now he was more composed. Sprinkle of water came spouting from his wand.
He then grabbed a glove and dug a hole on the earth in his pot. He made sure he only dug out what was needed. He then went to get a puffapod, he found one that he thinks is a healthy one and grabbed it by the based and removed it from the earth it is on, carefully making sure that the roots are still intact and not removed.
He shook the puffapod to remove the extra dirt and carefully placed it on the hole he made on the pot. He then carefully checked the roots if it is all well, as instructed by the Professor.
He placed compost, small amount at a time, making sure it does not suffocate the plant and just enough to make it feel well.
He then removed the gloves and grabbed his wand and said, "aguamenti"still with composure he managed to make a sprinkle of water enough to make the plants grow.
He stepped back and looked at what he had done and he smiled, which means satisfaction. He then noticed that his station is dirty, and thought the Professor might not like it. So he grabbed his wand for the third time and murmured "Scourgify", at once all the trash are gone and all tools are placed in a neat manner.

Daphne shook out her wand arm and decided to try again. She saw most students were able to do this properly, and she was determined to water the bloody soil. She adjusted her stand, looked right at the pot, pointed her wand at the soil, and stated firmly, "Aguamenti!" Again, a few drops fell from the wand and nothing else.
She stood for a moment, both hands at her side. She shook her head, feeling very frustrated. She should be able to do this easily, she used to be able to do this easily... This time she felt angry, angry that the stupid spell wasn't working. She planted both feet firmly on the ground with successive stomps, jabbed her wand into the pot, inches above the soil. This time she had a plan, she would just try to spell over and over again until water came out in a steady stream. "Aguamenti!" she said loudly, voice carrying across the classroom. But Daphne was too preoccupied to notice, her wand only produced a tiny stream of water before drying up. "Aguamenti! Aguamenti, aguamenti, aguamenti!" she spat over and over again. Then, as if all the water had been building up in her wand, it all spewed out into the pot. But the torrent was too much for the small pot and immediately splashed over the edges and into the air, getting Daphne and the students around her uncomfortably damp. After a few seconds, the stream slowed and stopped save a few drips, as if a faucet were being turned off. "ARRG!" she yelled, shaking her dripping hand. She looked around and felt her face turn red. She was covered in mostly water, but a few specks of soil that escaped from the pot. Her normally impeccable hair was all messy, half wet and half dry. She wanted nothing more than to run away, or better yet turn invisible. She put her head in her hands as she saw the mess she made to the table, affecting not just her work by other students'.

Twilight carefully copied the instructions and any other comments Prfessor B. made. Then she varefully got the things needed, went over the instructions again before she started.
She filled the pot 3/4 full and then used Augumenti softly. the water trickled out. She then made the hole with her gloved hands (at home she never used gloves just clean hands), the next steps were easy because they were the same she had been doing since she was six. she carefully extracted the puffapod and delicately brushed of the excess dirt. She carefully spread out the roots in the pot and carefully filled up the pot to the base of the plant.
She checked her notes again to make sure she hadnt forgotten anything. She patted the earth around the plant and said Augumenti and watered her plant with a small tricle of water.

Barry got the pot and put on some gloves, he quickly glanced around to see how he was suppoed to do it, then he added dirt to the pot and drew his wand "Agumenti" he ordered and water trickled out and then when enough had gonw he stopped the spell and studied that water had flown every where.

Nathaniel rolled up his sleeves, pushed his glasses up, and put on his gloves. This was going to be easy. He'd helped his grandmother plant stuff loads of times before. He bet that she'd love this puffapod. All of the PINK was starting to make him nauseous though. He took a deep breath as he filled the pot 3/4 full of compost. He pointed to the pot and muttered "Aguamenti". A stream of water shot out of is wand and onto the soil.Too bad he couldn't make if muddy. He dug a hole in the soil for the plant. Then he pulled the plant out of its current pot and shook the extra dirt off. Easy easy. He then put the plan in the pot and covered the roots and such with dirt and firmly patted it. Easy. Plant is planted and watered. he thought to himself as he watered the plant again Now for some fun he thought to himself. Nathaniel took off his gloves and grabbed some soil. He pointed his wand and it "Aguamenti". We grinned his evil little grin and THREW the mud on the Professors PINK boots. SPLAT all over her boots and nearby students. He poured more dirt onto his work station and muttered "Aguamenti" again and turned the soil into mud. He then started flinging it at everyone.

Sakura quickly grabbed her plant and ducked under the table as insaneo boy started to throw mud at everyone. She seriously thought he needed to go to the infirmary. And he ruined the Professors pretty pink boots!!! Not to mention he nearly got mud in her hair. If only cursing someone wasn't against the rules.

Jack stood by the table, gazing blankly at the writing on the board, he then turned to Nathaniel "Excuuuuuuuse me" he laughed "Mud, and havoc is myyyyyyyy subject" he watched Sak dive under the table and he picked up some soil "I have to say, no-one makes my girlfriend hide" he raised an eyebrow and shoved some soil down Nathaniel's robes "Do anything else and I add water" he raised his want threateningly.

"Oh, yea, because I totally aimed for her." the older boy said as he got the dirt out of his robes. "Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get her. Why not team up and have some fun?" he raised his eyebrow. He looked at the girl that had ducked "Sorry!" he said with a smile. He looked back at the boy "Well?" he asked.

Coming out of hiding Sakura nodded at insaneo boy. "Your Nathaniel right?" She asked as she took off her gloves and smoothed out her robes. "I have only one thing to ask. Aim in the opposite direction."

Jack smiled "Lets go then, you first" he smiled, stepping back to give Nathaniel room Nathaniel grinned "Alright then". He picked up a big clump of mud and flung it at Mariel. Oh boy, was she going to be madddddd he thought to himself. "I'd advise you not to get mud on Freya" Nate said pointing to the older Slytherin "She will kill you if you do.". "Let's mess up all of this ugly pink stuff!" he said with a devilish smirk.

Miles whipped his gloved on and wriggled his fingers at the pot, with an evil smile on his face. I'mma do this, and I'mma do it right. He glanced at Terry, to see if he was doing the same thing, and began. Miles picked up the soil/compost mixture and poured it into the yucky pink pod. Bleh.
Next, was watering the pink pot. Miles took out his wand from his pocket and said "Aguementi!" At it, and water streamed from the tip of his wand. "Woah." He stopped quickly before any more came out, and would result in just muddy water. Bwaha.
Miles moved his hand around the pot to mould a hole the sixe of the plant in the pot. He gloved became all icky and dirty, but that was what herbology was all about right?
Ahh, and now for the tricky bit. Changing the puffpod's home. When to be honest, it's brownish pot looked more homey rather than the hot pink girly pot. Miles didn't really want to do this to the puffapod, but it was instructed. He scowled, and picked up the plant by it's base, making sure all the roots were there. Unfortunately, one snapped. "Sorry." He muttered to the inatimate object and plopped it in the hole he had made for it. He shook some dirt over it afterwards, as if it was a present to say 'Hope you will forgive me.' Miles, also to say sorry (He felt really bad for pulling one of it's roots), massaged the roots just like the instructions said.
More soil! Miles grabbed a handful and patted it around the plant, and grinned at it, still feeling a little sorry that he had put the puffapod in a pink pot. "Aguementi!" He said again, pointing his wand at the pot. YEY! Finished. |
