Twilight listened to her professor intently, though she noticed and acknowledged the Bloody Baron presence, she knew about his gruffness from her Grandfather, so she continued to listen to her professor.

After careful consideration Twilight raised her hand and said, " Fear can be an assett as it often tells you in advance that you need to be on your guard, what needs to be done is to channel the responses to fear, the extra energy that is automatically available and gather it and use it to your advantage by putting yourself into heightened awareness and use it for defensive and perhaps offensive tactics as the situation warrants. Fear is a hindrance if you let it stay unfocused and let it take you over like a being possessed and letting it rule your thoughts and actions and making you as a wizard/witch ineffective."

Ludo kept his gaze straight ahead as he felt Liz's arm. He put his hand on hers.
"Is it that obvious?" he thought.

His eyes shifted from the black depths of the classroom.
"It's fine...you're just in the classroom..."
But key aspects of the lesson were disrupting his attempt to stay calm.

For one, it was dark. The grotesque pictures hanging from the wall didn't help either. And what was with all the wardrobes up front by the Professor? And the trunk?

Ludo patted Liz's hand lightly and took a deep breath. Calm.

Daniel raised his hand and said, "Sir, please. Fear is the most useful prevention against the Dark Arts. Fear induces vigilance and heightens your senses, thus making you aware of the things that are happening around you. By holding fear as a challenge, you will be very careful of everything that you will do and consider things before doing it. He paused momentarily when he saw Moaning Myrtle and the Baron, which he did not saw earlier, maybe because of his attention to the Professor. "It can also hurt us by means of panicking. When fear takes over our mind, and we start to panic, we can do things we don't mean doing."

Oh deary me, where are all these ghosts coming from!?
Gulping, Miranda looked forward again and listened to what the professor was talking about. It was true, fear isn't always bad.

Raising her hand, she answered, "Professor, fear can someties be a good thing, it could be like this alarm clock that just goes off when you are near something dangerous. It can be this sort of radar that picks up the bad vibes from something you don't usually find that alarming. And that is when you can ask yourself, why am I getting these bad feelings?" she trailed off frowning...

"And can be a bad thing too...You could find yourself in a situation when your fear turns into the opposite of vigilance. As if you're a deer stuck in the headlights..." Miranda hoped that was making sense. If it didn't, Eh.

Elizabeth glanced down as she felt Ludo put his hand on hers, which told her he knew what she was trying to do. "It's just a lesson," she whispered sideways, after she had returned her eyes to the professor. "It'll be over before we know it." She knew what was unsettling him, and it wasn't like she was entirely calm herself. It was hard to be when nobody knew what Kazimeriz had planned, although it seemed obvious with the abundance of things where creatures could be hiding in the front of the classroom.

She left her hand under his as he took a deep breath, feeling a strange solidarity in the moment. Like even though he was almost freaking out, he was helping her stay calm while she tried to do the same.

The hairs on the back of the princes neck bristled at the mention of the legendary basilisk. "How do you know...?" Helios muttered.

"Basilisk eyes are pools of pure fear. Those that don't die of fright are paralyzed with fear. They say someone who does not have fear in their heart can meet the creatures gaze and bend the serpent to their will."

This was all explained in a hushed tone, surely no one wanted to actually listen to his blabber.

Wow. There sure were a lot of ghosts in the classroom today. Anna had seen them float in and out of classrooms, corridors, and places like the Great Hall, but it still seemed unusual for so many to be gathered in one place at one time. Perhaps they enjoyed the atmosphere...or the topic of today's lesson. Who knew. As aware as she was of their presence, Anna stayed focused on the lesson and looked forward towards the professor as he spoke.

After she'd taken some time to consider the question the professor had asked, Anna raised her hand and said, "Fear can be used as a tool when we consider the reasons we've become more aware , or fearful, of a particular situation. If we become fearful, then we've entered a situation where someone or something has caused us to have the feelings of fear. We must learn to appreciate those feelings, for they can be used to assist us in reacting to various situations. In a state of fear, we must become more alert and more focused, so that we can properly defend ourselves, if the need arises, from a dangerous situation. Fear can also hurt us if we allow ourselves to become so afraid that we lose all sense of our focus and direction. In times like those, we allow our potential enemies to outsmart---and often times outlast---us. That can be prevented by properly using fear to assess the best way to react within a dangerous situation. Fear is also a confirmation of our gut instincts."

Jai raised her hand "Fear is what drives a person, fear of not being up to par fear of disappointing their parents, fear of dieing. Fear is like an instict, doesn't have to be fear of an object or ghost," she glanced at the Bloody Baron "fear of being inadequet can cause you to be weak and weakness at the wrong moment can cause instant death." she raised a brow

"But of course fear can drive a person to survive, the natural human instict is to stay alive for as long as possible at whatever cost. I would use my enemies fear againt them, let them simmer in it and then strike when they can take no more." She shrugged "Of course I would be sure that no one knew my fear, because when others know your fear you can become their slave, mentally they own you."

Rian sat quietly, listening to the others in the class. She scribbled down a few notes on a roll of parchment, trying to write as small as possible. She raised her head as Professor Kazwhateveritis started a discussion.

After thinking for a bit, she raised her hand. "For me, fear is something that...makes me more motivated." Like heights... "If I'm scared of something, but I'm forced to confront it, I'm someone that would want to take it head-on, and beat it. Although sometimes that might not work. It's like I'm trying to prove to myself that I'm better than I thought I was." she pursed her lips, and continued.

"It can also be a not-so-good thing, too. Because if you're scared of something, and someone knows that you fear that something, they can use it against you. They can make you do things you wouldn't normally do, using your fear as a threat." She was actually quite proud of herself for her answer, but she knew it was really nothing special.

Paris looked over at the Bloody Baron as he barked at Tobi. She smirked, glad that the Baron was putting that lion in his place. She still hadn't forgotten that Quidditch comment he made.

She raised her hand. "Well if someone fears you you can manipulate them to get them to do what you want. If they are scared of your power and what you are capable of then you can play them like a piano. The unknown is the best fear factor. If you are facing someone and you don't shrink from them and their attacks if may put them off their game. You aren't showing fear makes them scared that you have nothing to lose and a person who has nothing to lose will do any and everything to survive." She said.

Herminny had some ideas on this issue so she raised her hand and said,"If you know what scares someone you can use magic to create it to catch the person off gaurd before you hit them with an offensive spell, however once they learn you play dirty like that they might turn the tables doing the same to you next time".

Dustin looked around listening to all the answers that were previously given. He smirked. He had already given his answer and was wating for the teacher to actually tell them what fear actually was. maybe someone had gotten it correct.

Then the professor said what fear was and asked them to think how fear could be used in defense. Sometimes.. especially with boggarts, you had to think of the opposite of what you feared.. maybe that would count but then fear wouldnt be really used.

Fear could be used.. Dustin was stumped. he didnt know how fear could be used.

Nick was still hiding in the back of the room, just quietly watching things the whole time. He liked it in here, he kind of wished he was a student.

Cedric raised his hand,"Sir,Fear can help us in many matters because you became aware and active on what happening around you..and it also make you stronger because of the adrenaline rush that usually happens when you are afraid,scared or angry..",Cedric answered then he continued,"but Fear can also cause of death usually when you're panicking...example,there's a fire and you keep panicking,your mind can't think well..."Cedric explained

Emiliano looked around the class around. The room, was sure a place to be scared of, like the house of Mirrors at the circus he attended during his last summer.

Fear...it can be used to...He raised his hand, in an attempt to be clear at least this time. "Fear can be useful to get us in constant vigiliance, keep ourselves on guard, to defend ourselves from our enemies knowing which are their fears and use them to defeat." He said and took his hand down.

Great...what is my fear? He thought to himself.

Professor Kazimeriz nodded, pleased to see his students thinking. "Very good. Two points to everyone who contributed an answer."

"Excellent example, Avalon-- take an extra point." Kazimeriz nodded.


"Self-awareness of your fear leads to a greater mastery of your destiny... you offer good examples of using fear as a tool. An extra point for you both, Toussaint and Kettleburn."


"Precisely; we, like most animals, have instincts that include fight or flight syndrome and comfort zones for each reaction. Understanding this within yourself will help you to master your reactions and therefore improve your defense. Three points."


"Sunrider? Speak up if you have something to share with the class; this is not the time for mutterings or socialization." Kazimeriz cautioned the boy.

Kazimeriz grinned. "Ah, I'd expect such logic from my Slytherins. Two extra points to each of you."

Kazimeriz grinned openly at the babbling boy. "Well said- knowing someone else's fear helps you get them. Fear can be a powerful tool-- when your foe knows your weakness, he can exploit it if you do not have mastery of your own fear. Conversely, when you know your opponent's fear, it is a weapon at your disposal. Use it well. Five extra points, Morgan."


Kazimeriz stopped pacing and faced the class again. "Fear plays a very specific role in Defense Against the Dark Arts, not only in terms of wizard-to-wizard defense preparation and strategy, but also when dealing with dark creatures. Dark creatures are not creatures in the same way that, for instance, a unicorn is-- they are not biological in nature; rather, they exist solely as magical entities. Who can tell me the three primary ways that Dark Creatures differ from typical magical creatures or mundane animals?"

Cedric saw a ghost named nearly-headless nick"nick..what's you're doing there?"

Cedric raised his hand.."The three primary ways that Dark Creatures differ from typical magical creatures or mundane animals..are..umm,1st,dark creatures can harm or hurt us even though we're not doing anything bad at them while magical creatures also can harm us if we done anything unpleasant to them"Cedric paused..

"2nd,magical creatures can be tame while dark creatures cannot,if you want to tame dark creatures,you gonna suffer a lot of pain"cedric answered

"3rd,usually dark creatures is the one who always scare us like banshees,basilisk.."cedric paused,basilisk it is the dark creature he was afraid then he continued,"sphinx and others who have some harmful effects in our life while magical creatures have magical powers that is essential to us like a tear of a phoenix can cure our illness and make us temporarily immune to death"Cedric finished
