Divination Final Entering into the Divination classroom, the room was under a calm sort of quiet. The only sounds were the light tappings of a free roaming pink fwooper on the professors desk, as it pecked and chose small fortune cards amongst a filed deck. The room was well lit, as the large, thick drapes were drawn back and tied to let in the natural brilliance of the sun. A window was cracked ever slightly, and the cool, but friendly breeze from the approaching summer outside was creeping in and carrying in the smells of grass and garden, which were mingling with the latest odours of nag champa incense, Oolong and dust. Upon each desk is a blank note card, a deck of white cards with blank faces and a frame decorated back that had the words "top" and "bottom" written on it, a folded piece of dark fabric, a quill, and some ink. The professor was sitting behind the desk, carefully monitoring the actions of the fwooper, and gives you a welcoming nod as you enter. Do not rp the answers to the question in this thread. This thread is mainly so you can rp the practical part of the final and grumble on about the blegh of Divination. Refrain from chatting. The Professor may think you're attempting to cheat on your exam if you're caught trying to chat up another student. Quote:

Tobi took his seat in the Divination Exam quite calmly, sure, he wasn't the best at this sort of thing, but he understood the fundamentals. That should help, right? He picked up his quill and took a stab at it. |
Cedric entered the classroom and took a seat..as he read the instructions..he start doing his exam |
Daniel took a seat at the nearest chair and stared blankly at the instructions at the board. He took out his quill and started to to scribble what he have learned. |
Nervous, Clifford took his seat ready for the Divination final. It couldn't be TOO bad, could it? Ahhh, it was going to be awful. Brow furrowing in concentration, the Prefect gave it his best shot. |
Qaz took her seat and started the exam. Dang, there was an essay question. She didn't like them one bit, but the rest looked okay. She grabbed the quill and got to work. |
Abby turns in her Written Final and walks back to her desk. She lays out the dark cut fabric until it creates a dark smooth surface. Abby takes out the mock deck of cards. She decides on the card the represent the querent, the person whose fortune is being told. This card is called the Significator. It is placed in the center. Abby next shuffles the cards thoroughly. While she does this, she thinks of the question she wants the Tarot to answer. She now cuts the pack into three piles with the left hand, cutting towards the left. Abby now picks up each pile and puts it one on top of the next pile. This should be done with the left hand, toward the left. Abby the lays her cards out face down. SPOILER!!: My card layout Abby then wrote her information on the blank card. Quote:

Eleanor was good at divination. Not because she liked the subject, because she didn’t at ALL, nor because she studied a lot for it, because she also didn’t do that. She was good at it because her mother was good at it. Ahh, the wonders of genes . The brunette entered the classroom not really worried about the final. She just wanted to get that done. Ellie sat done and started to do her final, everything was going good, as usual and then she found a question that made her stop. Ah darn, she didn’t remember the answer.. Think, Think, Think Bluebell!Think!” |

Cedric decide that he can be the querent, the one whose fortune is being predict,he can do it by himself..Then the significator was on the center..He shuffle his deck..He was asking himself if he was living in Harmony and Balance..then he divide the decks into three using his left hand..then he put the other on the top of the next pile and he also did that to the other one..using only his left hand..its part of the process why he use only his left hand.then the card was face down.. then Cedric take the blank note card and fill it out using the quill... he writes his name and year and house Quote:

There. Done with the written half of the final, Clfford gulped nervously and read the instructions regarding the practical. Whaaa? Dark eyebrows knitting together in concentration, the sixth year began by laying out the weird dark fabric across his desk. What was that for? He hadn't the foggiest. Ah well. Now what? He had to shuffle them, huh? Hmmm. Shrugging, Clifford simply lay all the cards out on the smooth, dark surface and then proceeded to shuffle them about. Yup, this would get them all mixed up! Hehe. Shuffle, shuffle, shuuuuuuuuffle.. Ah, that felt about right. Done with the shuffling, Clifford then collected up his cards, placed the deck face down on the table and cut to the left until he had three piles. Now to place then in the fan spread formation? Oh Merlin, Professor Kapoor was AN EVIL MAN! This formation used eleven cards, right? Wrinkling his nose, he attempted to put them in the right positions. SPOILER!!: card layout Finished, Clifford then wrote his name on the blank note card and lay it beside his formation for Professor Kapoor to see. Quote:

Via finished the written part and it's time for the practical. What's this? Ooopsies she doesn't know... She lay the cut fabric on her desk and picked the deck of cards. Shuffling the cards she was thinking about the fan spread. How is that? She wasn't even sure. She just tried to put the cards on their places. Flash backs of memories from her readings caught her mind and there... If her memory will serve her well then She's set to go. She slowly laid the card on the cloth... SPOILER!!: She just hoped she got it correct.. She picked the blank paper and scribbled her name. Quote:

After finishing the written part of the exam, Vanessa nervously moved onto the practical part. This was the bit she was most worried about. She lay the dark material across, her desk first, smoothing it only gently, so that there weren't any creases in it. She needed to shuffle the cards first, so she picked up the mock cards, and shuffled them quickly, but precisly. After she had done this, she quickly glanced at the instructions. They needed to be laid out in a fan formation. Sighing, as she pressure got to her a little, she began to lay out the cards, slowly, so that she wouldn't put any of them in the incorrect place. SPOILER!!: Layout of Cards After checking that she had the layout correct, Vanessa wrote her name on a blank note, and left it under her layout Quote:

Qaz handed in the written portion of the exam and then got to work on the practical portion. Qaz took the dark piece of fabric and laid is out carefully on her desk. She smoothed it out so that there wasn’t a single wrinkle. It was a nice dark blue. Lovely. The she picked up the blank deck and shuffled until she was satisfied. The she placed the deck on the fabric and cut three times to the left with her left hand. Then she restacked to the left, again using her left hand. Still using her left hand she placed the cards in order on the table until she had the entire spread laid out. She took her quill and wrote her name on the blank note card and placed it on the bottom right corner of the fabric, Very nice, SPOILER!!: My Fan Spread |
Lima finished the Written part of her exam then handed it in. Now it was time for her to start on her practical. She returned to her desk and took the dark material and laid it out on the desktop, making sure that there were no creases or anything. Then she picked up the mock deck and started shuffling them precisely. When she figured that she had done enough, she started laying them out in the correct formation. SPOILER!!: My Fan Spread After she double checked to make sure that she got everything right, she took the blank note card and wrote: Quote:

Daniel handed out his written work and returned to his desk. He then laid the dark line like material on the desk, smoothing out the creases. He shuffled the faux-cards he have and laid it out in a manner like a fan. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread He then squints a little, like a small boy going over his work and when he saw that it was good enough he wrote his name. Quote:

Once the written part was over, Miles stood up and placed it on Professor Kapoor's desk and walked back to his own desk. And now for the practical. Eck. Miles laid out the black material on his desk, and then picked up the mock deck of cards which were already on his desk. Hmmm. Some shufflin' was in order here, so he did so. Miles wasn't very good at shuffling, and a few cards liked to drop out of the deck and onto the floor, but he quickly got the hang of it after a few attempts. Miles then lay them out in the correct formation, that was much easier than shuffling! SPOILER!!: Fan Spread Once he thought it looked good enough, Miles then wrote on his blank note card. Quote:

As soon as she'd completed the written portion of her exam (which, by the way, proved to be a tad more difficult than she'd imagined), Anna began on the practical portion. She'd never been too practical of a person, though, when it came to Divination. To be honest, Anna was a bit afraid that she'd be unable to perform the fan spread the professor was asking them to do. Anna survived in Divination, but it was usually only when she had a partner or a group to work with or when she simply had to read and memorize information from a textbook. She was determined, though, and she'd made it too far to back down now. With a soft sigh, Anna got started. She began by laying the dark cut of fabric across her desk, making sure she was careful to create a dark, smooth surface. When she was sure that her fabric was laid out to perfection, Anna retrieved her deck of mock cards and began to properly cut and shuffle them as she would a real tarot deck. She cut the cards in half and turned them face down. Afterwards, she let them intertwine with one another as they flipped down in a neat little stack. She was careful not to bend them, as well. Anna then placed the deck of cards face down on the table and cut to the left until she was left with three piles. Once that was done, Anna was ready to begin laying out the cards in the classic fan spread formation. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread Happy with her progress, Anna grabbed the blank note card and wrote down the correct information for the professor. Quote:

From the desk, the pink fwooper spilled out some of his selected cards onto the floor and Kapoor had stood to see how many had fallen and what they were. Quietly, he took his wand and accio'd them back. They had to start over with their card-chosing practice. He surveyed the progress of some of the students. A great many of them were done and inwardly he hoped they all did well. ooc: This thread will close in approximately 8 hours from the time of this post. If you have not already rped your character demonstrating the card spread, please feel free to do that sometime before the thread must close. |
William was so concentrated on the written portion that he had completely forgotten to even think about the next step. Stretching his hand free of their cramps he took a few moments of self pity, wondering just how well he had done. Divination just wasn't his thing but he had tried his best and that's all that mattered. Next he looked down at the black stripe of fabric he needed to spread and the cards. What was the formation again? A fan spread, what in the world was that? Suddenly his mind went blank, a weird look on his face as he tried putting the puzzle back together again. Chocolate frogs. Yes, he needed a chocolate frog. No he couldn't think of that right now he had a practical to finish. Laying the black sheet on the table until it was perfectly smooth he nodded, picking up the deck of mock cards. He began to cut and shuffle, trying to remember the correct way of shuffling the Tarot. It wasn't too hard he thought as he placed the now cut deck on the table face down before shuffling them around each other before picking them all back up. Placing them down in a neat pile face down again he carefully cut them into three piles before placing the cards in, what he hoped, was the proper fan spread. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread When he was finished he allowed himself a moment to sigh softly before taking the blank card and writing his information down before placing the now filled card on the table, middle. After she finished her written part of the exam, Evangeline hurried to read over the practical bit, a deep frown forming across her forehead. Oh goody gumdrops. What did all of that mean?! Giving her head a slighlt shake (perhaps she thought it’d make it better, who knew?), Evangeline began laying the dark cut of fabric on her desk. She ran her hands over it until it formed a dark, creases-free, smooth surface before moving onto the next phase. Grabbing a deck of mock cards, she started laying them out on the dark surface, before shuffling them about – trying to mix them up as best as she could. She did it for a little while, until it felt enough. Surely, if she was gonna mix them up for a bazillion times, it’d ruin it all, right? Right! Gathering all her cards in a deck once more, she then set it on the table and cut to the left until she had three piles. Now, it came the Fan Spread thingy. Oh lord. Frowning in concentration, she attempted to put it SPOILER!!: card layout Figured it was sorta okay, Evangeline wrote down her name on a blank card note and placed it besides her spread so he'd see. When she finally finished the written part Ana started to lay out the dark cut of fabric. When she had a dark smooth surface she picked up the deck of mock cards. Focusing on the cards she started to cut and shuffle them. Then she lay out the cards in a classic fan spread formation. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread After checking the formation twice Ana took the blank note card and wrote her name. Quote:

Done with the reading portion of her Divination Final, Willow stood up and handed it to Professor Kapoo, before returning to her desk, and beginning the practical one. Gently, Willow grabbed the dark fabric and laid it carefully on the table, and smoothed any possible wrinkles on it with both of her hands. Then, the fifth year proceed to do the cut and shuffle process; after placing the cut deck on the table face down, the young Ravenclaw began to shuffle them once again. Once she had finished all the shuffle process, Willow began to do the fan spread stuff - or what she hoped it was, at least. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread Formation Finised, Willow wrote down her name, year and house in the blank card and then placed it on her table so Professor Kapoor could see it. Quote:

First part of the exams done, Ellie moved one to the practical part.. agr, she didn’t have much time left. Deep breath…and here we go.. After laying out the black material on her desk, the brunette quickly grabbed a deck of mock cards, and laid them out on the dark surface, then shuffled them with both hands for a little while. She pushed all the cards in a deck again and put it on the table and cut it in half.. and cut it in half one again. Now she had three piles of cars in front of her. With that done, she placed the cards in the Fan Spread formation. SPOILER!!: Fan Spread Formation After placing her cards in the fan spread formation, Ellie grabbed the blank note card and wrote her name down before placing it in the upright corner of her desk. L-R: Trueb, Bunz, Ashby, Kapot, Lupa, Vindi, Mac, Bonte, Iliana, AHHH, Forrester Plymouth Morgan did not know one answer of the written portion. Not one. Not even part of one. So... he had some time to kill, okay? While everyone else scribbled away.... he was busy drawing on the back of the cards. But he had a pretty awesome set of cards when he was done... decorated with his Professors of the year. SPOILER!!: Plymouth's art http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...ntitled1-1.jpg Despite his poor Divination skills, Plymouth was well pleased with this final. |

Okay. Fan spread. Eleven cards plus a significator. Cela began shuffling the cards, using the overhand lacing style that she had first been taught. She began to relax into it and was careful to keep the cards face down, even though she wasn't doing a reading or anything. Afer a moment her shuffling style subtly changed until she was using the Kattar or Hindu method which, Cela reflected when she became aware of it, was better for the cards anyway. She stopped when one of the cards peeked a corner at her, figuring it was the cards way of saying they were ready. She cut the cards with her left hand, letting them fall naturally and placing them into piles which she picked up again ready to deal out. No big deal. Significator first, and another on top, then a two-three-four over there... aaaaaand a five in the middle and a six-seven-eight over there on the right and then the last three at the bottom from left to right. She eyed her spread critically and picked up the note paper, writing her name and leaving it displayed with her spread. Quote:
SPOILER!!: spread All done, Celandine waved at Professor Kapoor and Leroy again before skipping quietly from the room. |
