CoMC Lesson 3 :: Dragons! Professor Morgan couldn't help the small smile that slowly formed on her face as each of her students timidly placed their wands in her waiting hands. Finally, after weeks of planning, everything was in place for what would surely prove to be the most spectacular lesson of her teaching career. Looking up, her smile widened. There was not a cloud in the sky. Not that rain would have changed the course of the day's lesson, but she couldn't help but notice how well the sun accentuated her mood. "Come along then," she said ushering the group forward as the students arrived, her bright blue-green eyes sparkling with excitement as she watched the last few stragglers running down the rocky hill from the castle. "Today we are going to be studying one of my favorite magical creatures. Dragons!" "Before we begin, I'd like to take this time to make my expectations for this lesson extremely clear." She said eying the class with a serious, no-nonsense expression. "As you can plainly see, there is not a dragon with us now... That is to say, no dragon with us yet." She continued. "After some strenuous planning, I have managed to arrange to have one present shortly. This means that everyone has to do EXACTLY what they are told. I will be taking points left and right if I see you take one step out of line with a dragon around." She said. "Wands won't be necessary. WE are here to protect you." She said, clearly emphasizing the 'we' but offering no other explanation. "Now, if we are all clear, everyone please take out your textbook at this time and turn to page 257." She instructed, pointing her wand to the board. With a swish of her wrist the notice quickly disappeared and a large map now hung in its place. SPOILER!!: Map "Who would like to volunteer to come up front and mark where each dragon reservation can be found?" She asked. OOC: Take your time. The colour in Miles' face drained a little, but it slowly returned as Prof. Morgan said that the dragon is not here yet. He HATED dragon's. EEEP! "There's a reservation in Romania." Miles said with his hand raised, volunteering to pin point Romania on the map. "Tis home to the Romanian Longhorns." |
DRAGONS?! OH YEAAAH! Thee were proper magical creatures. WOOT! OOH OOH! Throwing his arm in the air, Clifford volunteered to mark where there was a dragon reservation. "There's one in Sweden, Ma'am." He knew that os of the annual broom race. |
Dragons?! Kiri let out an involuntary gasp. Horses with long spiky horns on their heads hadn't been enough, apparently, now it was big scaly lizards. If something did go wrong, her wand definitely wouldn't be any use, and the professor's dire warnings didn't exactly help, either. Kiri's mind went into overdrive (unfortunately mainly focusing on the fact that it currently resided in a fleshy vehicle that was most definitely not fireproof) and a parade of roaring reptiles flew past her in her head. She blinked. Well, before passing out in fright, she could at least try and answer Professor Morgan's questions. She raised a hand that was shaking just a little, and said: "There is a reservation for Chinese Fireballs on Taiwan, I think. My father visited it once." |
Juniper raised her hand after thinking long and hard about the dragon reservations of which she knew. "I believe that there is a reservation in Wales... I think in the Snowdonia mountains in the north of Wales, which are the highest in Wales," the fourth year said rather hesistantly. She could not recall for sure what she had read, but she remembered that there were dragons in the Welsh mountains, and the Snowdonia range was the highest in Wales. After listening to the answers her class mates had said Vanessa raised her hand. "The Macfusty clan live in the Hebrides Islands, which is northwest Scotland and they look after the Hebridean Black Dragons, which are native to the area." |
'Dragons?! YES! YESYESYESYESYES!' Freya had been hoping to get a look at a real life dragon ever since, Chris had given her that book over the summer. She would have felt a lot better if they had been allowed to bring their wands...'Oops.' Freya glanced at her bag for a moment, remembering something but not bothering to stress about it right now. 'It would make more sense if we all brought them with us.' Freya got a terrible chill from somewhere. It was so uncomfortable that she had to stop and warm herself up for a couple of seconds. 'I should have skipped.' Freya thought suddenly, 'I want my cherry wand.' She looked up towards the sky, thinking what it would be like to see a dragon flying in. But what if it wasn't a real dragon? She opened her book but didn't bother trying to answer the question. She wanted to ask something else, but thought better of it and decided to go along with things...for now. |
Herminny's face lit up, dragons, they were going to get to see a dragon up close and personal, how cool was this. Then Herminny heard the professor ask a question and decided to give the answer to it that she knew. Herminny raised her hand and said, "I've heard of a dragon reservation in Sweeden and would love to label it on the map for you". |
Cela listened carefully and raised her hand, "There is a reservation for Antipodean Opaleye's in New Zealand even though they range in Australia too." She paused, "Would you like me to mark them all on the map again, professor?" Cela grinned mischieviously, referring to one of her homework submissions. |
Dragons! We're going to see Dragons without wands. I knew that I should have tried to make myself a backup wand. Oh, I hope that it's a baby. After the initial shock, Qaz became focused. Whatever was going to happen, she had to remain focused on the matter at hand, not let her mind wander into never ending what ifs. Qaz raised her hand and said, 'There are Dragons in Peru, too. Peruvian Vipertooths hang out at Machu Picchu. The Peruvian Minister Espinosa was quite proud of the, according to reports from the last Ministers Conference.' |
Oh crap. Jacob Upstead was scared. Jacob Upstead was shocked. And even worse, Jacob Upstead couldn't answer. Nothing new there then, eh? "Erm..." Jake said raising his hand. "I'm not sure specifically, but there's at least one in Romania... and in New Zealand I think..." He screwed up his eyes and tried to read the textbook he had open, but it was no help. "I just know that they generally live in mountainous places... so it would make sense for reservations to be around them kinda places, right?" Dragons... |
"To add to what Clifford said they`re found in between Arjeplog and Kopparberg" said Barry hand raised. He looked around and saw Cela, he missed talking to her, but now wasn`t the time so he looked back to the professer. |
Kayla raised her hand, "Well there's also the Chinese Fireball dragon which of course originated in China, so I'm guessing that they would have a reservation there." Of course they would the Chinese loved dragons, they thought they were lucky. |
Tony skipped into the classroom, all excited at the very mention of dragons. He went over to one of the desks and attempted to take a seat in it. On his first attempt he found it was just a bit small for him, he knew he was a growing boy but geesh, he was still only 11! First his robes were tight, and now the desk. Maybe he was just getting fat off of all the chocolate frogs he had stuffed down his throat, he still had some candy in the pockets of his robe after his trip to Honeydukes. He didn't care about any of that stuff, though, he was here to learn about dragons, plus wasn't that pretty lady teaching this class? Tony looked around, some of these students looked familiar but he couldn't remember where. He guessed it was from the times he had been allowed to teach the muggle studies to the other kids because he was so much smarter than the others and learned so fast. He puffed his chest out with pride at the memory. |

No chatting in class couldn't possibly extend to greeting a professor, could it? |
Chris put his hand in ther air as another student mentioned a Dragon reservation. "Professor Morgan, i actually visited the Chinese Fireball Reservation over the summer break." |
"Oh, thanks, I think I'm just getting fat!", Tony said spontaneously. "I think my mum is gonna put me on one of those diet thingies and make me eat only vegetables like broccoli and stuff." He stuck his tongue out at the thought. |

Tobi raised his hand, "Isn't there one in Hugary, about the area near Kekes? I think," Tobi said, not at all sure. Areas involving dragons were ones he avoided as a rule. |
She was right !! Dragons !! "Well dragons are from a lot of places like China, Norway, Romania, Wales, and others. And like my classmates said there are reservation in Romania, Sweden, Wales and Hebrides" she said |
Iliana glanced up when she saw Professor Dumont enter her lesson and gave him a perplexed look as he handed her his wand. She was just about to hand it back as he hurried off and sat with the rest of the students. Ok… she thought. The more the merrier. Focusing back on her students, Iliana nodded in turn as each gave their answer. She smiled when she saw the map break out with little, red dots. With a flick of her wand she added in the rest of the dots and turned back to address the class. "Well done, class!" She said gleefully. The first answer in a new lesson always seemed to excite her. Today it meant that they were up and rolling and so far, no one had run screaming in the opposite direction after her announcement. "I'm impressed." She said, standing up finally and walking around to the other side of the blackboard. "Okay now, speaking of reservations, we are lucky enough to have a very special guest speaker with us today. He's spent many years working with dragons on reservations all over the world and has agreed to come and share his experiences as well as his expertise with us." She began, holding her wand loosely in her hand. Looking over the map, Professor Morgan raised her wand and pointed it at the small red dot that was now placed over Hungary and cleared her throat. "It was about ten years ago that our guest decided to travel the world. He started here, on his way to visit family in Hungary. As luck would have it, he never quite made it to his destination. Having quite literally stumbled into a dragon reservation, he accidentally impressed the keepers working there while meeting a dragon up close and personal for the first time and he was offered a job on the spot. Initially working with Hungarian Horntails, our guest began to study the dragons on the European continent with great interest for one that never had any intention of doing so in the first place. After a few years he moved on to New Zealand first, spending some time working around Antipodean Opaleyes, then on to Peru to learn about Peruvian Vipertooths. With a particular interest in venomous Dragons, our guest has agreed to share with us a little of what he knows." She said, proudly. "Class, please welcome our very own, Professor Ethan Truebridge." |
Tony didn't know where dragons were found, but he heard one of the students say a word that sounded like "hungry". At that, his stomach started to rumble and he began to yearn for the stash of candy he had hidden in his robe. As quietly as possible, he grabbed a sugar quill and stuffed it into his mouth. |
William had listened carefully, already knowing about the small reservation in Romania but since someone had already said it he had kept quiet, or else he'd burst with pride as he began speaking about his cousin. He frowned slightly, noticing professor Dumont sitting like a child in one of the desks but shrugged it off, his attention fully on professor Morgan. He was sitting too far away to talk to him and besides he needed to gain points, not loose them. His eyes widened as he heard professor Truebridge had actually studied dragons and he sat up straighter, his attention now focused on the man. Now this had his attention, and the thought of the chocolate frogs burning a hole in his robe pockets was forgotten. |
Ethan cast off the disillusionment charm, revealing he had been standing at the back of the class. He lifted his arms up slowly and delivered a theatrical bow before striding to the front of the class and nodded once at the map, once at Iliana and once at Dumont. Under one arm was a wand case, his other hand held his wand loosely. "I suppose we are here to talk about dragons. But first, does anyone have any questions about my experience and interractions with dragons?" |
