As you step inside the stables, you're greeted with a musky, yet pleasant odor. The sun is shining down through the wooden beams of the high ceiling and you can hear the wind blowing just outside the door. Professor Morgan is there, sitting on a small wooden stool in her warm, navy blue robes.

OOC: This lesson is going to run somewhat slow, to allow more students to attended. Just have fun and try to bear with me, it seems my girls have given me the flu.

Tobi only knew one thing about the concept of Chinese Unicorns, and it scared him pretty thoroughly. He raised a hand, "Aren't they depicted as being, you know, covered in flames?" he squeaked, "Personally. I prefer ours."

Plymouth didn't know the answer. But, after listening to his peers he had a thought. Up his hand went, "Sounds to me like these eastern unicorns are just like this white fellow here-- but with the Easter Egg effect. The Eastern folks just take their unicorns and dye them pretty colors. It's not a bad idea. I like a little variety myself."

Herminny raised her hand she had heard about this from a book she read in the library the other day and, said "The Chinese unicorn is called a qillin and it looks like a some sort of hybrid animal with the body of a deer, head of a lion and green scales, it's quite weird to picture such an animal".

AAHH! Why wasn't Professor Morgan giving HIM any chocolate frogs? This was favouritism and it wasn't FAIR! "The eastern ones are just legends though aint they? They aint real like our ones." He wished their ones weren't real either. Bleh. "They don't sound like unicrons anyway. They've got the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, the hooves of a horse. So it should be called a ... doxorsicorn." HAH!

Cale raised his hand. "Well, I don't think the unicorn exactly looked realistic in Chinese Mythology...for one, it has the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, horse hooves, and then a small horn growing out of it's head. That must have been an interesting sight," he said with a small chuckle.

Chris raised his ahnd to explaint the strange Chinese Unicorn. "The Chinses Unicorn, or Qillin is a animals that resembles many animals. With the body of a deer, the hooves of a horse, the tail of an ox, and a small horn out of the top of its head, is very different from the unicorns we are observing todaytoday."

Cela raised her hand, "The ki-lin was first seen in the year 2697 BC, at least that is according to Tse-Tche- t'ong-kien-kang-mou..." Cela pronounced the name as slowly and carefully as she could, "But I've also heard that the first Ki-lin was seen at the birth of Confucius. It's supposed to show up at the birth of a great man or a prophet, and its a high form of flattery to say that a Ki-lin appeared at ones birth."

Mmmmkay... now Jake was stumped. He could remember the picture and that was about it. Colours were alot easier to remember than other information, and even though Jake was pretty okay at remembering facts, the colours had totally absorbed his attention, so he raised his hand and made to hazard a guess. He'd learnt from History of Magic that this was a good idea.

"Erm..." He asked, hand in the air, his brain going over the time periods like 'thousands of years' that Professor Morgan had mentioned. "I dunno... a loooooong time ago... liiiiiiiike... eight thousand BC?" he tried, putting emphasis on the thousand, to show it was just... random.

Anna raised her hand and said, "One of the first unicorns appeared almost 5,000 years ago to give the Emperor Fu Shi the secrets of the written language," Anna said, wrinkling up her nose at the sound of Fu Shi. "Professor, did I pronounce the emperor's name correctly?" Ahhh, nevermind that. She needed to finish her answer. "That particular unicorn is said to be amongst the first to appear, though. Another unicorn appeared 4,700 years ago in 2697 B.C. This unicorn appeared in the garden of the Yellow Emperor, Huang Di," she continued, once again making a face at the sound of the emperor's name. Was she pronouncing them correctly? Merlin only knew. The emperor saw this appearance as an omen, and he believed that his reign would be long and peaceful."

No, Willow could not imagine what it would be like to live for thousands of years. To be honest, mortality was a subject the girl always avoided, for it brought back sad memories.

And since she did not want to be sad. . . "Not really, professor. I suppose it must be fascinating. Being able to witness so much history, and such." Shrugging it off, the girl focused on Professor Morgan's following question.

"Over five thousand years ago, right, professor?" Said Willow again, raising her hand. "I think this Unicorn made an appearance to give some Empereor with the name of. . . " Something she did not know how to spell, "thing is, he gave this Empereor some secrets about language. Written language."

Copernicus raised his hand. "You know, Professor, I once saw a unicorn skeleton in a Muggle exhibit when my family was on holiday in the Harz Mountains in Germany. I was completely sold on it, but my father said the shape was all wrong for a modern unicorn. It was either pieced together from other prehistoric creatures, or the unicorn ancestor from over 5000 years ago was... pretty ridiculously ugly."

Herminny had an idea of when the first unicorn, and wven though it was a little vague in her opinion she raised her hand and said the first unicorn was said to have appeared almost 5,000 years ago", Herminny hoped this was the answer the teacher was looking for cause in all the books she has read about unicorns none give a specific date of a siteing cause she did want a more specific answer but perhaps one may never know.

The earliest mention of unicorns in Western Civilization is by Herodotus. In the third century BC, he wrote of the 'horned horse' of Africa. By the fourth century BC unicorns had become very popular in western civilizations. A century later Ctesia would write about the unicorns who lived in India. Ctesia would describe them as being equal in size to a horse, a white body, red head, bluish eyes, and a straight horn on his forehead. According the muggle's bible in the Book of Gensis, God gave Adam the task of naming all the animals. Adam named the unicorn first elevating him above all other beast. The unicorn is suppose to have left paradise with Adam and Eve when god threw them out of the Garden of Eden. The unicorn came to represent purity and chastity. The unicorn's purity in Western legends stems from its Biblical beginnings."

Iliana looked around, delighted that everyone was doing so well. She could see that some of them were getting a bit antsy to go outside and play with the unicorns so she tried to speed things along. "Ok now class, just a few more questions and then we'll brave the cold."

"So, now that we know when the first unicorns were sighted. Can anyone tell me about some famous people in history who have been associated with unicorn sightings?"

"In the 3rd century B.C., the Macedonian general Alexander the Great boasted that in one of his conquests, he rode a Unicorn into battle. In the century before the birth of Christ, Roman Emperor Julius Caesar reported seeing a Unicorn in the deep forests of southwestern Germany." she said. "Oh and A few years before the birth of Christ, a well-respected Greek, Apollonius of Tyana, claimed to have seen a Unicorn in India."
