Class 1, Segment B: Hexes and Jinxes and Curses, Oh My!

Professor Kazimeriz had changed the contents of the chalkboard:

At each seat, there was a quill and ink set and a parchment:

Quote:

1. What is your personal experience with dark arts, if any?

2. Have you had personal experience with curses specifically? If so, explain.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.

Please complete this worksheet and I will collect them before class begins. If you have unresolved spell damage from the hex and jinx exercise, please queue up at Healer Byron's chair and she will assist you.
Professor Kazimeriz sat at his desk, near the chair where Healer Byron sat. He was making notes in an ancient book while he waited for the students to return to class.

ooc: RP coming in and filling out the worksheet, or queueing up and getting healed by Healer Byron (angelwing, who will be here for the duration of class) if you're hexified or jinxified. When we have a good number of people in the class, I'll begin. This final portion of lesson one will last about 2 days so every time zone can play. :D

She walked into the class and sat down at a desk and looked at the worksheet on it. She picked up and quill and started to fill it out.

Merry smiled at the professor. "I'm glad to be here. Is there anything you can tell me about what I might be expecting?" She asked taking a seat in the comfortable chair and accepting the tea.

Meredith was rather excited to be asked. She had never been asked to help out a professor and while she of course hoped that none of the students were seriously injured, she was happy for the opportunity.

Tobi ambled into class, [jazz hands] SPARKLY [/jazz hands] not that he noticed. He did wonder why people kept staring at him oddly, and more than once he tried to flatten his unruly bedhead hair.

He waved perhaps a LITTLE over enthusiastically at Nurse of his Dreams, in that it shook his whole body and have him the look of an overexcited sparkly puppy.

"Hi! Nurse of - Brooks Byron!" he cried, as sat down and filled out the assignment. "How's it going? How are you? How's Professor Sc- I mean Kazimeriz treating you?"

Allie walked in, her knees still appearing as they were on backwards. Stupid Knee-Reversing Hex. "Umm excuse me? Is there anyway you can make my knees normal again?"

Okay, so William had lied to his classmates. That last hex had hurt ... a lot. Not just a lot but seriously hurt. Okay, he hated to admit it but he needed help. Wobbling into the room he looked around and smiled sheepishly at the professor as he took a worksheet before stopping as his leg gave a nasty throb. A tear threatened to make itself known and he shook his head. No crying in front of big boss people he chided himself.

He noticed the Healer, the one who had healed him perfectly the last time and smiled as he walked up to her, a shy look on his face. "Um, hi again." he said shakily. "Can you heal me please?" He asked pointing to his legs. "One of my classmates hexed me with the knee- reversing hex after I hit him with the Hurling Hex. I didn't mean to actually hit him, I thought he would block it." he said in a rush, glancing at professor Kazimeriz with a gulp.

Professor Kazimeriz smiled at Healer Byron. "Apparently Miss Johnson has the answer to your question, Healer Byron. I expect we'll see a fair amount of spell damage from hexes and jinxes including possibly mis-cast spellwork. I am delighted to have you in my class assisting me and have confidence that you will heal them all, though I ask that if Miss Brandywine or Mr. Morgan request help with his ears or her snout and tail, you leave those untouched... that's my specialized handiwork. I've bestowed on each of them a rather ...insidious... curse, and I will be handling its resolution." He grinned, a rather evil and mischevious expression on his old, prune-tacular face.

Cam sniffed and it obvious that he'd been crying his heart out after he lost his poking finger. It was a part of him, he just couldn't believe that Jake removed it and it hadn't gone back yet. There were dry tears on his cheeks and on his cheek was a red spot where the stinging hex had hit him. Luckily the ear-twitching stopped (even though he didn't want it to stop) and tried to smile from his frown after noticing the nurse in the room.

Walking up to her with his failed attempt of a smile, he rubbed his eyes and then realized that every duel, he failed. He was an epic failure in the game. It was not, not, not fair.

"C--Can you fix me up, please?"
He didn't need to tell her his injuries, it was already showing. He held his hand up, to show that he had no more poking finger.

Dominic strolled into the Defense Classroom, taking his seat from the first half of the lesson in the back row. He just hoped for the love of Merlin that Kazi wouldn't attempt to scare him like before. Noticing the worksheet on his desk, the fifth year let out a small - quiet - sigh as he removed a quill from his bag and began to fill it in:

Defense Against the Dark Arts: CURSES
Name: Dominic Denton
House: Hufflepuff
Year: Fifth

1. What is your personal experience with dark arts, if any?

Other than last year's lessons on Defense Against the Dark Arts, then i really have no personal experience with the dark arts.

2. Have you had personal experience with curses specifically? If so, explain.

None; other than what was taught in lessons at Hogwarts last term and at home.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.

Unless becoming a Professional Quidditch player will now require expertise in DADA, then I don't believe so. Of course I haven't really thought too much on future professions, so really I haven't the slightest if I will need DADA NEWT level coursework

Please complete this worksheet and I will collect them before class begins. If you have unresolved spell damage from the hex and jinx exercise, please queue up at Healer Byron's chair and she will assist you.

SlytherclawPoet 02-19-2009 03:56 AM

Amanda walked into class, she did pretty well, she was only missing a finger, and it was on her writing hand. She noticed Allie with her inverted knees, that was thanks to her. She was in a bit of pain, that finger removing jinx was a bit painful when it hit her, but it was worth taking the damage. Where the finger was missing, it looked like it was taken off, but she hoped it could be healed.

She decided to sit down and fill out the worksheet first before she got healed.

I have not personally.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.
Since I'm working on my music career, I don't believe that I'll need DADA, unless I want to follow my other dream of becoming a DADA Professor.

Please complete this worksheet and I will collect them before class begins. If you have unresolved spell damage from the hex and jinx exercise, please queue up at Healer Byron's chair and she will assist you.
She got up and lined up behind all the students who were waiting to get healed, she looked weird missing a finger which she needed to play guitar.

After having. . . succesfully managed to get past the first half of the lesson without so much of a sratch, Willow entered quietly the Defense the Dark Arts Classroom, and claim the seat she'd used the moment she'd entered the classroom for the first time--the last row in the very corner of it. Upon noticing that there was some kind of Worksheet on her table, and after reading it, she picked up her quill, and answered the questions:

Quote:

1. What is your personal experience with dark arts, if any?

Other than the four years I've taken of Defense Against the Dark Arts here at Hogwarts, none.

2. Have you had personal experience with curses specifically? If so, explain.

No, not at all.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.

Well, as far as I know being a journalist or a Quidditch player doesn't include knowing DADA, so I think not.

Please complete this worksheet and I will collect them before class begins. If you have unresolved spell damage from the hex and jinx exercise, please queue up at Healer Byron's chair and she will assist you.

"Nurse I grew because of a streaching hex could you make me shorter?" he asked

emjay 02-19-2009 04:13 AM

Mariel walked into class and gave a polite nod to the professor. Finding a seat near the front of the classroom, she sat down to find a parchment for her to fill out. Picking up the quill provided, she began to fill it out. The first, vital-statistic-y part was plenty easy, but the next she gave pause to. Personal experience? She bit her lower lip as she thought about that before cautiously filling out the rest of the form.

1. What is your personal experience with dark arts, if any?
Knowledge from classroom, books, and teachings of others

2. Have you had personal experience with curses specifically? If so, explain.
Have been on the receiving end of the babbling curse and body-bind curse, have never cast any curses myself

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.
??? I'm not yet sure what I want to do after school nor do I know what occupations require N.E.W.T. level coursework, but as I enjoy DADA and find it a very useful class, I require myself to excel in the class.

Defense Against the Dark Arts: CURSES

1. What is your personal experience with dark arts, if any?
As a seventeen-year-old, my only exposure to the dark arts has been what I have encountered as a Defense Against the Dark Arts student here at Hogwarts. In class, we've discussed and read about various dark spells. We've been taught what these spells do and what the effects of those spells are. I have also read several dark arts books that I've checked out from the library. Outside of learning about the dark arts in school and reading about it in books, I have no other personal experiences.

2. Have you had personal experience with curses specifically? If so, explain.
Just recently, my friend Agie Brandywine and I practiced duelling by competing against one another. During the duel, she ended up defeating me by casting a Babbling Curse on me. I was unable to successfully cast another spell at that point, because I couldn't shout the proper incantations.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.
At this time, I am considering two different career choices. The first is a professional Quidditch player, which, to my knowledge, doesn't require excelling in DADA or passing N.E.W.T. level coursework. The second is a potions researcher, which wouldn't directly relate to DADA, but I believe a deeper knowledge of the subject would still be a great benefit. It may be that one day I am required to research or brew a potion that would assist someone who has been injured by the casting of a dark spell. In that case, I would need to have a deeper understanding of dark spells and what their effects are.

Please complete this worksheet and I will collect them before class begins. If you have unresolved spell damage from the hex and jinx exercise, please queue up at Healer Byron's chair and she will assist you.

My second oldest sister went through a phase where she thought it was great fun to hit me with the leg-locker curse as I was going down staircases, she grew out of it when my mother (A Muggle) threatened to snap her wand.

3. Do you intend to pursue a profession that will require you to excel in DADA or pass N.E.W.T. level coursework? Explain.
No sir, I only want to not be the weak link among my genius siblings. I would rather pursue a career focused more in a culinary direction. I'm better at it and it makes people happy. I seem to make people mad where wands are involved.

Tobi sat, sparkling in his seat, not realizing that his blinding skin was anything to be concerned about. Nay, he hadn't realized he'd been hit with a Bedazzling hex at all, much less had he noticed its effect.

REATTACHED?! Cam was probably about to barf when the healer told him this, it was simply not possibly that they could have done surgery on him. And then he held his mouth when the nurse brought back his poking finger to her, it looked... all weird. Did someone step on it or something? He took the pain reliever charm and closed his eyes shut when she began to sew the finger back on.

What if it came off again? ...

Nodding a "thank you" nod to the nurse, he quickly went back to his seat and tried to answer the questions they were given.
