The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom was cold, dank and dimly lit by dreary light streaming through the windows, supplanted by a few sputtering candles hanging in sconces. Long, dark wood tables filled the room, each paired with two sturdy wooden stools and inkwells for the students' use. On the walls of the classroom were horrific moving pictures of people writhing in excruciating pain, as well as images of men and women suffering from cruel cursed deformities. On the bottom of each frame there was a small plaque indicating the spell that was depicted in the photograph.

At the front of the classroom there was a large, dusty chalkboard and a lectern. There was also a desk laden with ancient books and an assemblage of dark detectors whirring away busily.

The professor was not yet in the room. The charmed chalkboard contained a simple message:

ooc: Please RP entering the class and I will bring in the Professor as soon as we have a fair amount of people in attendance. Please do not use this as a chat thread or I will delete your posts without further warning! This class session will be open until Monday evening (possibly Tuesday evening) EST to allow people of every time zone ample time to participate.

After taking some notes on what Professor Kazimeriz had explained, the girl raised her hand, and said, "Tarantallegra, sir, and it is used to make another person's legs to start dancing uncontrollably."

Mariel raised her hand to volunteer an answer. "There's the trip jinx... that causes the victim to trip and fall," she said simply.

Kayla raised her hand again. "Well there's the finger removing jinx Professor and well as it's title says it will remove a finger from your hand." Ugh...not a particularly nice thing to happen to you.

As she spoke, Anna thought back to the time a few weeks ago when she and Agie Brandywine had duelled one another in the duelling arena. Agie had beaten her, but perhaps if Anna paid close attention in this class and learned everything she could, she could get the best of Brandywine next time.

Abby raises her hand. "The impediment jinx stops objects or slows them down. Professor Kazimerez, in your text the impediment is called a jinx. Please understand me, I'm not trying to contradict you, but I have seen it in other text books called the Impediment Curse. I assume they are referring to the same jinx/curse?"

Cela raised her hand, "The Jelly-jinxes sir. Jelly-legs makes the targets legs wobble like jelly, and Jelly-brain makes it hard for the target to think straight. Theres the jelly-fingers spell too, but that is thought of as a curse." Cela added, wondering why that was.

Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'There's the Snitch Jinx. A delayed-action jinx which writes the word "sneak" across someone's face in pimples if they break an agreement they sign.'

Anna raised her hand once again. "There's the Jelly Brain Jinx, sir. This jinx affects the target's mental processes," she said, hoping she could get this answer out before someone else mentioned the Jelly Brain Jinx, as well.

"There is also the stretching Jinx which cause an object or creature to stretch or extend in length. That one sounds painful." Abby snickers. So that's how Plymouth got all that lovely ear hair. He really must have done something bad.

Anna raised her hand to discuss one addition jinx with the class. "There's the insect jinx, which sprouts feelers on the victim's head, removes the victim's ability to speak, and causes the victim to scuttle along the ground," she said. Geez...what an awful predicament to find oneself in...

Qaz raised her hand again and offered, 'There's the Antler Jinx that causes the victim to sprout antlers and there's the Insect Jinx that sprouts feelers on the victim's head, removes the victim's powers of speech, and forces the victim to scuttle along the ground, plus the Leek Jinx that results in leeks growing out of the target's ears.'

Of all things, this crazy old fool was just being rude and conceited in his little tricks of the trade. Why didn't he just pull Agie up to the center of the classroom so that he could have his fair share of laughter from the students. JERK!

Lyra raised her hand to answer this vile man's question. "A hair thickening charm would be considered a jinx." I'd like to turn your hair into just that and make you walk around like cousin IT. See how you like... Lyra smiled in her innocent yet up to something look. She just knew he was going to say something to that and probably take points away as well but she would give him something to take points from her anyway.

Herminny turned around and gave Lyra a mean look, she did not like this girls attitude at all, she hoped the teacher would give her what she diserved. Herminny then turned back around to face the teacher.

He wasn't sure if he'd heard the answer, but Copernicus raised his hand. "Perhaps the Revulsion Jinx, sir? I believe it forces a person to release hold on an object or repels an object."

How he loathed that one...his older brother seemed to find pleanty of time to practice that one at home.
