After taking some notes on what Professor Kazimeriz had explained, the girl raised her hand, and said, "Tarantallegra, sir, and it is used to make another person's legs to start dancing uncontrollably."

emjay 02-16-2009 03:40 AM

Mariel raised her hand to volunteer an answer. "There's the trip jinx... that causes the victim to trip and fall," she said simply.

Mell 02-16-2009 03:40 AM

Kayla raised her hand again. "Well there's the finger removing jinx Professor and well as it's title says it will remove a finger from your hand." Ugh...not a particularly nice thing to happen to you.

The answer is actually quite subjective; it is a matter that many scholars have debated for centuries. Some countries, such as wizarding Britian, state that hexes are shorter in duration or intensity than jinxes as a whole, while others such as Romania classify the milder harmful incantations as 'jinxes'. As far as this class is concerned, we will use the classification according to the Ministry of Magic and call the mildest harmful spells 'hexes', though honestly it is all semantics. I am a pragmatist. I do not care what you consider them as long as you know what each individual hex or jinx is and know how to defend yourself. Now... Who can give me an example of a jinx and tell me what it does? And I want to hear from both those who have answered before and some new voices, please." Professor Kazimeriz scanned the room; anyone who was not paying attention did so at their own peril.

Anna raised her hand, ready to answer the next question, as well. "Well, professor, there's the Jelly-Legs Jinx. This jinx causes the target's legs to wobble uncontrollably," she said. As she spoke, Anna thought back to the time a few weeks ago when she and Agie Brandywine had duelled one another in the duelling arena. Agie had beaten her, but perhaps if Anna paid close attention in this class and learned everything she could, she could get the best of Brandywine next time.

Mrs. Weasley 02-16-2009 03:42 AM

Abby raises her hand. "The impediment jinx stops objects or slows them down. Professor Kazimerez, in your text the impediment is called a jinx. Please understand me, I'm not trying to contradict you, but I have seen it in other text books called the Impediment Curse. I assume they are referring to the same jinx/curse?"

TeafortheSoul 02-16-2009 03:42 AM

Cela raised her hand, "The Jelly-jinxes sir. Jelly-legs makes the targets legs wobble like jelly, and Jelly-brain makes it hard for the target to think straight. Theres the jelly-fingers spell too, but that is thought of as a curse." Cela added, wondering why that was.

Torchwood 02-16-2009 03:51 AM

Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'There's the Snitch Jinx. A delayed-action jinx which writes the word "sneak" across someone's face in pimples if they break an agreement they sign.'

"Ah, yes. Two points for each of you who answered -- and for both Miss Toussaint and Miss Wright. You are quite right- it is another issue of semantics, with one slight variation where curses are concerned." He began to pace as he lectured, leaning heavily on his cane. "Consider this: if you were a girl of fifteen or sixteen, you might consider being burdened with a pig's snout to be something of a curse. An eight year old boy might find that a laugh. Is it a hex? A curse? A jinx? In reality, the terms hex and jinx are almost interchangeable in many instances. But a curse is looked at a bit differently, for a true curse will cause either pain or longer term, lasting, even sometimes permanent damage... physiological or psychological in nature." His eyes rested momentarily on Brandywine before moving on. "Of course, as with most things in life, there are exceptions to this even classification, but those are the general guidelines set by the Ministry. We will cover curses after the lab. But before we get to that... Who can name another jinx, one that hasn't yet been mentioned?" He looked around the room.

Torchwood 02-16-2009 03:58 AM

Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'The Stretching Jinx causes the target object or creature to stretch (extend in length).'

Rosa Chispa Princessa 02-16-2009 03:58 AM

Herminny raised her hand looking in her textbook and said," the trip jinx, I am guessing it causes people to trip constanstantly".

highjinx 02-16-2009 03:59 AM

Cam raised his hand. "There's also the Tickling Charm which makes the victim laugh uncontrollably.

Mrs. Weasley 02-16-2009 03:59 AM

Abby raises her hand. "There is the anti-aparation jinx which prevents a person from being able to aparate."

Anna Banana 02-16-2009 04:02 AM

Anna raised her hand once again. "There's the Jelly Brain Jinx, sir. This jinx affects the target's mental processes," she said, hoping she could get this answer out before someone else mentioned the Jelly Brain Jinx, as well.

Rosa Chispa Princessa 02-16-2009 04:04 AM

Herminny raised her hand again and said,"the hair thickening charm, which probably thickens ones hair wherever it is which for boys is no problem but for girls it woulld be embarassing.

Kazimeriz smirked. "Mr. Morgan might disagree with you on that note. But that is neither here nor there. Very good... more jinxes, quickly please..." He continued listing named jinxes on the board.

Mrs. Weasley 02-16-2009 04:08 AM

"There is also the stretching Jinx which cause an object or creature to stretch or extend in length. That one sounds painful." Abby snickers. So that's how Plymouth got all that lovely ear hair. He really must have done something bad.

Anna raised her hand to discuss one addition jinx with the class. "There's the insect jinx, which sprouts feelers on the victim's head, removes the victim's ability to speak, and causes the victim to scuttle along the ground," she said. Geez...what an awful predicament to find oneself in...

Torchwood 02-16-2009 04:21 AM

Qaz raised her hand again and offered, 'There's the Antler Jinx that causes the victim to sprout antlers and there's the Insect Jinx that sprouts feelers on the victim's head, removes the victim's powers of speech, and forces the victim to scuttle along the ground, plus the Leek Jinx that results in leeks growing out of the target's ears.'

Mell 02-16-2009 04:28 AM

Kayla raised her hand. "There's the backfiring jinx sir, I think that might have been mentioned before though...I'm not too sure."

Of all things, this crazy old fool was just being rude and conceited in his little tricks of the trade. Why didn't he just pull Agie up to the center of the classroom so that he could have his fair share of laughter from the students. JERK!

Lyra raised her hand to answer this vile man's question. "A hair thickening charm would be considered a jinx." I'd like to turn your hair into just that and make you walk around like cousin IT. See how you like... Lyra smiled in her innocent yet up to something look. She just knew he was going to say something to that and probably take points away as well but she would give him something to take points from her anyway.

Rosa Chispa Princessa 02-16-2009 04:35 AM

Herminny turned around and gave Lyra a mean look, she did not like this girls attitude at all, she hoped the teacher would give her what she diserved. Herminny then turned back around to face the teacher.

Cassirin 02-16-2009 04:36 AM

He wasn't sure if he'd heard the answer, but Copernicus raised his hand. "Perhaps the Revulsion Jinx, sir? I believe it forces a person to release hold on an object or repels an object."

Lizasaurus 02-16-2009 04:51 AM

Unsure if her answer was given yet, she raises her hand "How about Diffindo?"

PhoenixFlame 02-16-2009 04:58 AM

Ludo raised his hand as he thought. "Sir...There's the Impedimenta Jinx."
How he loathed that one...his older brother seemed to find pleanty of time to practice that one at home.

TeafortheSoul 02-16-2009 05:05 AM

Cela tried to figure out if she'd heard the jinx she was thinking of mentioned, "The leek jinx? It makes leeks grow out of your ears," Cela said, hand raised.
