Jake raised his hand. "What about 'Get the heck off me you idiotic chair!'?" he asked. His grandfather had once shouted that when Jake put glue on the man's rocking chair, pointing his wand at it.... Of course, Jake hadn't understood then. "Or Gerroffmee."

Wow, this was harder than last lesson.

"Deligare might be the name, professer" said Barry hand raised once again.

"unstickiest please?" Said John totaly not sure about the spell. His was a good try but he doubted it would be right.

Ana raised her hand "Is it the Fixing Charm?"

Pyralis raised her hand. "Removous Stickanous." She asked.

Tobi really wanted to come up with something half decent, he was dropping back down in the points race and it was his own fault - scratch that, it was Kettleburn's fault for taking advantage of his sorta-sister. But the fact remained that he was way farther down than he wanted to be.

He raised his hand, having a try, "Sir, could it be Tergeo? I mean it works to remove liquidy and viscous things, if you used it remove sticky things like glue? Or Relashio, it's used to make something release what it's binding, it's sort of like an unsticking charm. Right?"

Tobi was terribly unsure of himself at this point. And so very furious with certain people.

Anna raised her hand and said, "What about Talleanullum?" she suggested. It made sense to her. After all, the Latin word for stick was "tallea," and the Latin word for no was "nullum." She doubted that her answer was correct, but at least she'd had good reason to believe it could be correct.

"Nope, not waddiwasi."

Ian chuckled. "An interesting guess, but that's not it."

"Not quite, young man."

"Clever, but that also is not it."

Ian's chuckle turned into a full laugh. "No, although perhaps I should look into a developing a charm with 'Gerroffmee' as its incantation."

"No, but good thinking!"

"Nope."

"Nope, not the fixing charm."

"That's not it either."

"It's interesting that you brought this up," Ian said. "Tergeo, like you said, works to remove liquidy and viscous things, but what if you try to use it when there is no substance other than magic that is bonding two or more items together? As for relashio, that charm is used more to make something release its grip on another item, such as the giant squid on your head. Good thinking, but that's not it."

"Ah. Clever thinking, Miss Greingoth, but you are actually confusing your Latin roots. You see, 'tallea' is Latin for stick, but it is Latin for the noun stick rather than the verb stick. However, you were thinking along the right lines."




"Everyone, those were good guesses, but none of them were correct. The incantation is actually avexis." He looked out over his class and then turned to his blackboard. He spelled out the word on the board so, in giant white letters, the class could see "advexis."

"I know. Many of you are thinking 'but it's spelled with a v, not a w! Why is it pronounced like that?' Well, in Latin, the v is actually pronounced as a w; thus, ah-weck-siss. Everyone, say it with me. Avexis."

"Ad-weck-siss, Advexis." chourased Barry,tired of stuff like this

Anna smiled and nodded once in the professor's direction. So she'd confused her Latin roots, but at least she'd "thought cleverly" about the answer to the professor's question. Too bad no one ever won points for simple clever thinking. She could have used a good two, three, or twenty... She continued to watch her professor, wondering what in the world had gotten into him. Must be something in the water... He was a tad on the hyper side and a little too excited about his lesson. Ahh, well. Could be worse, she supposed. "Advexis," she spoke up, uttering the incantation with the professor. What a difficult word to say. Had she been one to have a lisp, she'd be in a mess right now. "Adweh...Adweth..." Ewwww. "Advexis!"

"Advexis." Said John hoping he had pronounced it right.

WHAT?! He was wrong? Cam remembered from his Do You Wanna be a Wizard? book when he was about at the age of 5 and it was suppose to be Hocusily Pocusily Unstick. Professor Ashby was lying, he couldn't believe it but a professor... LIES. LIES. LIES. LIIIESSS! Of course he knew he was right and he couldn't believe the professor saying the wrong answer in front of the whole classroom. Advexis? And then he thought of something. Ohhhhh. Cam knew in an instant that the professor was merely making some sort of a joke and decided to follow it. "Adwexis?"

"Ad-veck-siss..." Jake said, reading out what he could see, a confused look on his face, before saying it how the professor did. He could never understand why people made letters that you didn't actually say. "Ad-weck-siss... I prefer Gerroffmee..." Jake muttered, peering at the sticker on his wand, remembering what Professor Ashby had said about developing a Gerroffmee spell and smiling a little.

Ad-weck-siss, ad-weck-siss, oh Merlin what a tongue twister!! Kayla practiced a couple more times saying the incantation in her head before speaking out loud. "Advexis."

Tobi felt a little better that he seemed to have made it into the good graces of the Professor, at least there was ONE person on staff that didn't HATE him. But now was not the time to muse on why BananasBunbuns hated him. He needed to focus.

This was one rare occasion that pronunciation wasn't so hard. his grandmother on his mother's side was Italian and a bit old fashioned. She tended to think that mass wasn't properly done unless it was said in latin, so he actually knew about the v/w distinction.

"Advexis," he repeated, following Professor Ashby's lead, paying very close attention to his pronunciation. Nona would have been proud.

Trying not to duel on the fact that there was a HUGE chance she was sitting on glue, the girl focused on the lesson that was developing before her eyes.

So they had to pronounce the spell now? Good thing she did not have lisp. "Advexis," mused Willow from her seat, twirling one strand on her with her fingers.

'Ad-weck-siss' Qaz repeated. That seemed simple enough.

Raising her hand, she has a question. "Professor, what would the difference be between Waddiwasi and Advexis? My papa showed me how to use Waddiwasi..."

"Um, Liz," Tobi offered, "I'm not sure, but I think Waddiwasi just shoots objects across the room, maybe also out of tight spaces. I could be wrong."

Tobi had always been better with theory than practice so he'd never been able to get that particular spell to work so he could see its effects.

"Actually my papa, showed me it's the flick of the wrist that you do, when you say the incantation, that sends the object flying." Liz replies to Toby turning toward him.

"ad-weck-siss" Interesting I was thinking more of old English rather than latin.

At the end of the day, Tobi had very little idea what he was talking about, and he knew it. After Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology, his worst subject was easily Charms, so he shrugged at Liz, indicating he didn't know anything else but what he'd already said, and went back to practicing the incantation.

"Ad-weck-siss" He said in long drawn out syllables.

Dutifully, Cela repeated the incantation, ""Advexis, Ad-weck-sis, Advexis." She wanted to make sure she got it right, it would probably come in handy.

William chanted the incantation in his mind, "Advexis" he murmured softly, his eyes closed, his mind set, his rolling with possibilities. "Advexis... Ad - weck - sis...Advexis" He said out loud now, his eyes opening with a smile. Easy enough he mused happily finally getting the hang of this magic thing finally.

"Advexis," Remy stated in a clear voice, "Ad-weck-sis." Inside he was quite satisfied that he used "scourgify" on his chair before he sat down.
