Welcome welcome to Charms Lesson 1! Professor Ashby is standing at the front of the classroom waiting to introduce himself to everyone and get things started!

Please come in and take a seat. Class will begin shortly.

Her question was answered as he stopped in front of her and addressed her. "I do need a partner, thanks," she told her lifesaver with a smile. "I'll go get us a chest," she said as she headed towards the front of the room. After all, she was anxious to see if there was candy hidden in there, and the young Ravenclaw was super-excited to get a partner that she didn't have to seek out herself.

Oops, she didn't even know Mr. Prefect's name and she was certain he didn't know hers either. Calling over her shoulder as she walked up to Ashby's desk, she said, "I'm Mariel, by the way." She'd find out his name as soon as she got back. Choosing one of the small chests, the 13 year old brought it back to her partner.

His voice was horrible and wondered if everyone's eardrums were broken already.

With his hands he started to create to do weird mumbo jumbos like violently karate chop the air into pieces, if that was possible. He was the spotlight, all eyes were on him (not really) and he continued with the tapping. And then he did old dance moves like the "light bulb" and the "sprinkler". Now for the reaaaal magic part.

His wand was gripped in his hand as to have better control. "HALOMARAH!" Nothing came out of his wand, not even a sound of a whoopee cushion. That was worse than Firsitan! "ALOHAMORRE. ALOYAMORA... ALOHO-MORA. Cam was violently flicking his wand all over the place, not caring if he suddenly lost his grip and made someone lose their eye. The last one, he knew it was right but still nothing. Had his wand failed him?!

Cam turned away from Jake and looked at his wand, in a sad face. "Awwe, it's OK wandie. We'll get it next time? My little wand... so adorable and... maybe you have boo-boo. I'll make it better!" And he secretly smooched his darn wand, hoping no one had seen it.

"Your turn Bakers!"

Jake breathed deeply, trying to ignore those show offs from his house... even though he had a feeling points may be lost... But he didn't react at all, he boast that he was better than the rest or try new charms, he just watched Cameron... who was having trouble heaving the tiny chest, causing Jake to giggle.

Listening to Cameron's varied versions of the spell, Jake suddenly panicked. What was the spell?! It was his turn... NUUUUUU!!!!!

"Erm... Alomahora..." nothing... "Aloe-vera"... nothing... "Hello-my-aura..." still nothing. Then he heard some older student say it.

Pointing his wand at the chest, Jake said clearly, "Alohomora!"

And his wand worked.

Kinda.

It turned out he had it the wrong way round for starters, which was embarassing enough. But, worse still... SPARKS!!!!! Red sparks shot out of the end, hitting his hand and making him drop it, where the sparks propelled it across the floor.

"Ouch," he said, looking at his hand. No damage, really. And it was a good job he sat at the wall, for the rocket wand sparks only hit said wand.

"Erm," Jake murmured. "Your turn, I'll be right back."

And off Jake went to find his wand.

Set looked over at that pointy noised Slytherin. She was giving him a very nasty look. He thought she'd be happy they lost points, but well. Slytherins were known to be quite thick, and very very slow! This one espeically.

What the heck was wrong with SHOW-OFFS who were in the room, it was making him extremely angry! He tried to maintain himself when even Jake had made something came out of his wand at least. Now it was his turn again and he tried memorizing the incantation in his head. It wasn't really fair, maybe his wand wasn't working because he put it in his mouth! Yeah that was probably it. He eavesdropped on the other conversations, ooh, someone had just gave him some useful advice. Cam didn't say the incantation correctly but now he knew it. "Alohomora!"

The magic box started to wiggle real hard and the only thing he could do was to watch it in amazement. CLICK. WOOOH! Cameron Karsten had done the impossible, he finished the spell and actually did it. Wasn't that like, AWESOME?!

But he dare didn't do it again. Since he wasn't a -cough- A SHOW-OFF -cough- "Jake, come back here, it's youuur turn!"

One of the problems you encounter sitting in the back of the room, is that you become almost invisible when it comes to finding a partner. Qaz looked around to see if there was anybody who hadn't partnered up yet....

Daphne noticed a girl sitting near her in the back. She had her own reasons for not wanting to do spell work, but she didn't want to sit alone and do nothing. Rubbing her tightly bound wrist, she realised she needed to get over this quasi-phobia. She took a chance and walked over to Qaz, a girl she partnered with in the past. "Wanna do this thing?" she asked casually. "You'll get to practise lots," she added, hinting at her reluctance to try the charm.

"Good to meet you Cale," she said cheerfully as she set the box down. Mariel glanced up at him as he offered for her to go first, then tentatively looked back down at the chest. Great, he was probably an expert at this spell being an older student, and she was probably going to look like a complete idiot having never performed this charm. She was sure she'd fail miserably. On the other hand, the Ravenclaw thought maybe she could benefit from having someone older as her partner. He'd surely want to share his experience... right?

"Um, okay," she said finally. Staring at the little box, she flicked her wand in its direction and said, "Alohamora." Nothing exciting happened, but she wasn't sure if she did it incorrectly. Looking back at Cale, she said, "Is the lock supposed to spring open or does it just unlock?" She reached towards the chest to see if it unlocked anyway.

After a few moments, she rushed to Copernicus' side, grabbed his arm, and drug him over to the chest, as if he wouldn't be able to clearly see what she'd done without being a foot closer. "Success!" she exclaimed. "Your turn!"

Jake had found his wand by those two first years from his house, Set and Cadence. He didn't want to say anything, so he just looked at them. Grrrrr... if only he knew how to make that Shut Up face... but alas, Jake was not good at that stuff.

But he did notice a glare directed at Paris. Wrong move, boy-o... don't mess with my friends... He wanted to say it, but he couldn't, so he just looked at Paris and bit his lip before returning to the chest.

"Erm... what? Alohomora..." the chest shook a tiiiiiiiiny bit, but nothing happened. Jake's mind was still on his friend, even though he knew she could handle the situation.

Focus Jake! "Alohomora!"

This time a whiiiiny sound came from somewhere. Was it the chest, his wand... or Cameron. Sigh... the chest remained locked.

Ok. SHe pointed her wand at the lock and concentrated on an unlocked chest and said "ALohomora!"

Nothing happened except the lock wiggled. "what am i doing wrong?" Twilight felt tears coming int her eyes. How come she could get doors to open when she didnt want to but now not.

Cam was staring at Jake who was staring at two other Hufflepuffs who was staring at the girl who he met at the portrait place. He didn't know what happened but probably something bad, like real bad. After finally gaining his attention he observed Jake who was going to do the spell yet again. Then it started shaking! Maybe it would happen? Then nothing happened though so he made a cheering face for Jake. "Go Jaaake. Woohoo, you can do it!" Another attempt!

Sadly he failed.

Then he noticed that Jake's wand looked even more choco than his own. He licked his lips and his eyes seemed to look like he was crazy. "You know Jake... maybe you could uh, lemme take a taste on that wand of yours to see if it's working or not eh?"

He was indeed a crazy, crazy boy.

Anna stood behind Copernicus and peered into the chest, as well. She didn't know what was in there, so she figured she'd better let the man in the situation get the closest. She made a face at what she saw inside. Had she known that was what she'd find, she would have just skipped the whole "let's hide behind Cop" act. "I guess so," she answered, slightly disappointed that they hadn't at least unlocked a quaffle or a snitch or...candy. "Oh, you definitely should, Cop. It's my turn to motivate you now, though" she said. "Go on! Try it! I bet you get it on the first try, though!"

But when she finally did speak, a subtle smile came to Dominic's lips as she appeared to reluctantly agree. "Great," he replied quickly, but then frowned at her next comment.

Tense? Him? If anything, it'd be because of the other students in here, but nope... he thought was feeling just fine.

"No, I'm not tense," he replied, waiting for her to return with the locked chest. "So uh, do you want to go first?"

She smiled to her and started working on the chest. She grab firmly her wand and said "Alohoumora!" the chest shaked but it remain locked. "Erm... ok.. concentrate" she said. Ana closed her eyes for 3 seconds trying to get all her attention to the chest and her wand and she said clearly "Alohomora!" and with a sound it open "It worked! Awsome! This is great!" she said. "Do you want to try, Reese?" she asked. Reese was was a older student so she probably could easily do this. "You probably could do this already" she said smiling.

NO!!!!! IT OPENED!!!!! Rejoice my magical brethren, for the chest hath OPENED!!!!! Go forth and frolic in all the glittery things you can find! I'm not seeing frollicking!!!!! Jake wanted to shout to the class, but he didn't.

"Oh yeah!!!!!" he cried. "Go wand, I love you!!!!!" Jake looked around at Cameron as he reached out and slammed shut the chest. "Your turn."

Qaz walked up to the Professor, got their chest and returned. 'Well, Daphne, have at it...I have my fingers crossed, cuz I'd like this over with as quickly as possible...less chance to look stupid.' she said glumly.

Daphne stayed put as Qaz got the locked chest. She pulled out her wand and started waving it around. She had more movement in it than ever before. "Good," she said, smiling. Perhaps she'd actually be able to pull it off.

But then Qaz returned, and she was more than willing to let Daphne go first. "Oh... well... erm..." she stuttered. Qaz looked quite depressed, and she didn't have to heart to make her go.

"OK," she conceded, holding her wand in front. Luckily, the charm didn't require a lot of movement, so she should be fine. "Alohomora!" she said, and the lock glowed and shook a little, but didn't budge. She turned a deep shade of red. This was a spell most first years should do, and Daphne was not able to cast it. "You should go," she frowned, eyes on the ground. Qaz couldn't be as pathetic as she was.
