Sure she already knew guys were touchy, but hearing a guy admitting to be touchy was not something that happened often--actually, it never did. Deciding that it was best if she didn't make any kind of comment on the matter, Willow snapped back to reality just in time to see Dominic practice the charm.
Making an effort to not sound obnoxious about it, the girl cleared her throat a bit before commenting casually, "It's Alo-ho-mor-ah, Dominic, not Alo-her-mora." She was just helping. Wasn't that the reason why Ashby had told them to partner up? Well, one of the reasons. "Hmm. I think I'm going to give it try now." Focus, Willow, focus.
Pointing her wand directly to the locked chest, Willow said, "Alohomora" Her tone of voice, however, had been clear enough. Or rather, she had sound particularly confident, which was why the locked chest had only shaken up a bit before remaining still and perfectly locked.
But she did not know that. "Alohomora" Nothing. Ugh. Why was it not working? Her dark eyebrows pulled together "Alohomora!" In her desperation for wanting the charm to work, Willow unconsciously started to make a movement that sort of looked like she was stabbing something that was just above the locked chest, but that was not visible.
Naturally, though, as concentrated as she was, the girl only noticed when the wand connected with something that was too hard to be just air, yet too soft to be the locked chest. . .
. . . Dominic's arm.
Forest green eyes opened wide. She looked at her wand, before very slowly facing the boy she'd just accidentally injured. "I am so sorry." And truly, she was. Well at least Willow had enough sense in her to drop the conversation about his admittance to being touchy. Maybe that was why he actually seemed to withstand the Ravenclaw long enough than most females her age; because she had some sense left in her?
Nodding when she casually corrected his little pronunciation error, Dominic was actually impressed that she had been paying attention to catch onto it since it was quite subtle. And wait, had he really inserted 'her' into the charm? Gulping of embarrassment, he quickly set that aside and bit his lower lip to keep furthering any more rush of blood to his cheeks. "Good idea," he murmured in agreement, when she suggested about giving it a try now. Watching her focus and utter the charm perfectly, he waited for the chest to magically open as the charm was anticipated to make do. As other students had done before them. The chest rattled a bit, but nothing, like him.
Dominic was about to suggest that he try his luck at the charm again when it felt as though his arm were breaking. And quite literally too as he glanced in shock to find the forearm had disjointed itself from his upper arm. Willow had opened his arm instead of the chest!! Biting his lower lip again to keep from screaming in pain - although not too much pain honestly, since it was just the elbow joint slightly distracted, he swallowed back the salty tears and clutched his elbow with his opposite hand. "Professor," the fifth year called for him, hoping he knew some quick treatment for repairing a dislocated elbow joint. Ugh - how was he supposed to play quidditch like this!? She probably did it on purpose; injuring one of the opposing team's players... "My elbow!!"

Amelia closed her eyes and took a deep breath...she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to do this. Glancing around at all the other students, she whispered "Alohomora." Nothing happened.
"Might as well be banging my head against a wall....its always this charm! Any other charm, i can do, and normally on the first try. But this one..." Even Jaquline hadn't been sucessful in making her perform it right. She bit her fingernail. Stupid lock. Why can't I just pick it?! I've been able to do that since i was 3. |

When had such a normal and not particularly complex lesson as charms had become so. . . so. . . something! She had actually managed to hurt someone. Physically hurt someone, that is. Never, in her sixteen years of life, had Willow hurt another human being!
Other than in Quidditch, of course. But Quidditch didn't really count, according to her; injuries happened very often during a Quidditch game.
But definitely NOT during a Charms lesson.
Instantly, she dropped her wand making a face as if the little stick was some kind of deadly weapon, and faintly heard as it hit the floor beneath her. "I. . . er. . . are you alright?" What a stupid question. Of course he wasn't alright! For Merlin's sake, the boy was in pain and anyone would be able to tell. Was it so hard to come up with something smart to say? So much for being a Ravenclaw. . . "I really didn't, er--" she cleared her throat, for her voice had came out a bit hoarse, and then took a deep breath, "I did not mean to do that. It was an accident. Really. I am sooooo sorry. . . " she whispered, in something that sounded like a plea, but not quite. "I, er--please don't cry." Please don't cry? Seriously? Weelll--she did have a point, for if Dominic started to cry, she might start to cry, too, and that was something she was not looking forward to do.
Awkwardly, she patted his good arm. And then quickly dropped it as soon as she realized she was touching someone.
Ugh. Where was her usual confidence? Gone, gone with the wind, apparently.
This had officially become her worst class ever. Even worst than that Herbology class a few terms ago when she had accidentaly killed a plant. But this was an entire different situation, because Willow did not care for plants, while Dominic, well. . . he was the only boy she'd ever been able to relate to.
Well, Clifford Carden could say now that she was indeed Bone Crusher. Oh, perfect.
However, this quickly left her head as soon as the possibility of landing on detention ocurred to her.
No!

"Righteo. Show that chest who's the boss." Who was the boss again? "GRRR! I AM THE BOSS!" He growled menacingly at the chest, pointing his wand right at the lock. Third time lucky. Hopefully. "Alohomora!"
Were his ears deceiving him, or was that a CLICK! he just heard? "I - I did it!" Clifford's eyes widened in surprise and he dropped his wand on the table and opened the chest just to check. "I actually did it! Clifford's the boss!" CLIFFORD WAS THE BOSS!

It seemed it was third time lucky and Evangeline bounced again when the chest clicked. He had made it!! "Yay!! You're the boss!" She giggled happily, grinning widely at him. "I told you you'd make it." HEhe.

"See!" Sloanne said enthusiastically. "You did great!" Now it was her turn. Sloanne relocked the lock and placed the chest in front of her. "Alohomira!" She said, intentionally mispronouncing it. She didn't want to seem like she thought she was so much better than Twilight or anything. "Alohomora!" She said again, this time the lock opened. Twilight smiled back at Sloanne, her intuition told her that she had done that on purpose and it showed to Twilight a good heart and soul. She hoped they would become friends.
"I guess being new at this I should give it another try.", she said locking up the chest. SHe pointed hr wand at the chest "Alohomora" and even though the lock only swung back and forth, she didn't feel like breaking into tears anymore. "Alohomora" she said in a more define voice and the lock opened.

He did it! Like, well and truly actually unlocked that bloody chest! If he wasn't in a crowded classroom, Clifford would've started his victory dance. He had a feeling that wouldn't be too good for the whole ... cool image though. Heh.
"I am the MAN!" He puffed out his chest proudly and nodded triumphantly when Evangeline told him he was indeed the boss. The boss.. the man.. whatever, he was just COOL! He unlocked the chest! Oh yeah!
"Ahhh, it was probably just luck. A fluke." He said, suddenly coming over all modest. Bwaha.

Freya had placed her wand on the table space in front of her and waited patiently. She hadn't had much to say lately, which was certainly odd, but at least it would spare everyone else the pain. Freya took her quill from the ink vial and scribbled a few notes on her parchment, nothing much, just things that had come to her mind. She lowered the quill again and waited, her slender hands clasped together.

Like... how if you use those little lock pick tools, some locks are harder to break? And also; the charm can't unlock heavily warded doors or barriers or whatever, can it? only standard locks?" Celandine could keep asking questions for the entire class but she bit her tongue incase Professor Ashby turned out to be one of the professors that didn't like excessive questions. "Hmm..." Ian mused, rubbing his chin. "That's a good question. Very insightful. As for the charm, yes, it does seem to work more often on less complex locks and less often on more complex locks. However, if done correctly and flawlessly, there really should be no difference on how well the charm works, as long as there is no counter-jinx in place, of course. As for heavily-warded doors, I'm sure a very skilled witch or wizard would be able to pull it off, but I have yet to try, nor am I confident I would have much success.
Take a point for Ravenclaw for such an insightful question." Quote:

Ian looked around the classroom, admiring the successes and perseverance of the students. "Wonderful! Wonderful! Every single one of you is doing splendidly!
It seems as though most of you have mastered this charm. I do believe it is time to move on."
He waved his wand over the classroom and the chests disappeared. He turned around to his desk and quickly conjured up something that was hidden underneath a large sheet. It was quite rectangular in shape, although, of course, it was three-dimensional. It also looked so large (how large was it?) that it looked as though it could encase a rather large man. "Are there any guesses as to what is under this sheet, before I continue?" |

Ian smirked. "You're all close.....in one way or another. Before I do the big reveal, have any of you heard of a muggle "magician" named Harry Houdini who used to perform in the late 1800's and early 1900's? He was most famous for his death-defying escape acts."
