Miranda walked back to her desk, now with her second acorn and began to lit the fire under her cauldron and then poured the water into it. Acorns looked funny, chocolaty brown... Hmmm, she was getting hungry, and the acorns were infact not chocolate... She noticed the water was boiling now and proceeded to add all the remaining ingredienses into the cauldron. She stirred the liquid and kept a close watch on the clock. Miranda did not want to mess this up! |
Blah... he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. Jake read through the instructions twice, to make sure he understood- for the most part, anyways -and then copied down the ingredients and instructions. Then, he collected the ingredients. But something struck his memory before he could light the flame. Up his hand went again. "Sir..." he began, hesitantly. "We have to consume this?" Jake bit his lip. Well, he wouldn't be the first one... Jake couldn't exactly trust someone he'd just really... well, met. Nervously, Jake lit the fire and started boiling the water. |
Melanie was eager to start mixing ingredients, but she desparetly hoped it would be nothing like cooking. She was an awful cook. Anyway, the professer looked nice. She was a bit shocked when he gave them the choice of knowing what the potion was before or after they tried it. Of course she wanted the after choice. "Oo, professer can we do it afterwards!" she asked eagerly. Her face paled abit at the mention of an acid potion. "Or not...." She hastily copied down the instructions and lit a fire under her cauldron. It was used, but it did the trick anyway. Next Melanie walked up to his desk, her brown hair swishing behind her. Speaking a quiet thank you to the professer, she took the ingredients from his desk and began walking back to her desk where the black cauldron was now sizzling. She stumbled and an acorn went flying. Oops. She bit her lip and searched for it on her hands and knees. The Melanie finnaly found it under her own desk. She blushed and picked it up. It had some dirt and a peice of hair on it, but she shrugged not thinking any thing of it and threw the acorn carelessly into her cauldron as well as her remaining ingredients. |
When it was ready. Spence carefully tried not to spill it. Whichit almost did. Gasp! It almost tipped but she got it. Whew she ws done. |

Sakura quickly and precisely copied down the instructions before getting the ingredients that she would need and setting to work. Quote:

Lina brewed the potion, somewhat bored. Admittedly, she hadn't brewed one like this before. She was always really concentrated on a set of potions and what effects she wanted. However... However it was just... boring! After stirring for five minutes, she got an idea. It brought a grin to her face and she reached into her pockets, careful to continue stirring. Leaving it on the flame she added in a small amount of powdered dragon scale to see what effect it had. Just as it started changing, she took it off the flame and peered into the cauldron, still stirring. Oh... Was that a good color? She couldn't remember. Then she realized she was experimenting in the middle of class... Crud. Well, this would be a failed potion to the professor. Oh well. Now she wanted to know what it was supposed to do, and what it would do now. She would just need to let it cool. |
5 minutes after Ana remove it from the flame and stired once a minute for 5 minutes. Then she let it cool. "Ah... Professor... will we have to drink this?" she asked fearing his anwser. |
Lizzie happily watched her potion, it was ready. She was thankful the professor had started with something quite simple; she didn't remember much from last year. As she glanced around she briefly smiled at Chris who sat a few seats away from her. She glanced around, watching the other students finish their potions. |
As his water began to boil, Jake panicked. Right... erm... "Let's say acorn's are eggs..." he began muttering to himself. "The outer is the shell... and the inside is the animal... like the meat..." Jake looked at the acorn and pulled the shell thing, that looked like a hat, off. "So this must be the yolk-I mean meat..." Hoping for the best, Jake crushed what remained and repeated this with the second acorn. Just as the water began to call attention to the fact that it had, indeed, boiled, Jake added the crushed acorn... thing... the pinch of billywig wings and one dram of scurvy grass. Next, flinching for fear of explosion, Jake began to stir, and did so for 5 minutes. |
After stirring it for five minutes, Miranda removed the cauldron carefully from the fire. Burning her precious chaser hands was not a an option... Wow, that was a bit vain... She looked at her hands. No time to worry about that now because the potion still needed more stirring! Miranda grabbed the spoon and watched the clock again. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand Go! 4 minutes to go...3 minutes...2 min- oh I wonder if they have chicken for dinner? Oops time's up! Looking inside the cauldron, she saw the liquid changing colors. It was pretty awesome, and she had made it! As she waited for it to cool, her big dark eyes scanned the room. Everyone was working over their cauldrons, and it made her wonder what sort of potion they were making. The professor had said that no harm would come of it, which was a big relief. Ofcourse, no teacher could be that irresponsible, right? Touching the liquid with her pinky finger, it felt lukewarm and she decided it was ready! Hooraaaaay! |
Miranda had followed all the instructions, and still had three more minutes she was supposed to stir for. She had only had one little flub so far, a tiny piece of acorn shell had got in the cauldron. Hopefully it wouldn't make a difference. Looking around as she stirred, she saw that several students were already done. Looking back into her cauldron, she sniffed. It smelled funny. But she had no clue what it was, so maybe it was supposed to. One minute left to stir. |
Melanie began stirring her potion at five minute intervals. It was turng a quite alarming shade of pink and big yellow bubbles were coming up. She eyed it nervously. I hope I don't have to actually drink that.. she thought, wrinkling her nose. She nodded in agreement as peple began to ask the question on her mind. To drink that just may be suicidal. |
Lina watched the potion for a while, sure that what happened was not right. It would not do something good. She started searching her pockets frantically for something that would neutralize the scale powder, wondering why in her right mind she thought it would be a good idea to add THAT of all things. She's really saved up for that! Finally she found a vial of something and poured in a few drops. It changed again and she sighed. It still wouldn't do what it was supposed to, whatever that was, but at least it wouldn't do something bad. She thought, at least. She put the lily tincture back in her pocket and peered into the cauldron. "The professor is going to kill me..." |

"Oh I like it. But I don't know if Iam really good. I tried with my father but every thrid cauldron exploded hehe" laughed Damian while checking his potion. |

Water's already here, the acorns are here, some billywigs... how much were there meant to be? Oh yes, a pinch... right here... oh, I don't have the scurvy grass, the girl cast one last worried glance at her almost-boiling water before rushing off for the scurvy grass. By the time she returned, the water was boiling, indicating that it was high time to add the ingredients. Here goes nothing, she thought, dropping in eveything one by one and stirring gently with her other hand. |

Looking round at Mariel,Sarah smiled. "I'm sorry Mariel,I won't argue with him again.Perhaps it would be best not to open my mouth at all," she said turning back to Nate, "seeing as what I say,and how I say it,can be so misconstrued." She didn't mean to be touchy, but an innocent situation and comment had turned into an arguement she wasn't expecting.Hearing Nathaniel apologise did make her soften slightly though. "Maybe next time you won't jump to conclusions and laugh at people either!" she snapped.Dammit why was she like this? Must be the atmosphere in the room. Were boys always this infuriating? Quote:
Walking up to the front Sarah grabbed all the ingredients she needed and proceeded to follow all the steps laid out by the Professor. She lit her cauldron before starting to crush her acorns, humming to herself all the while. Once the water was boiled she added all the bits and pieces and stirred for 5 minutes. Looking down she wondered what it was supposed to look like.Taking it off the fire, she continued stirring every minute until it was ready. Then she carefully poured it into the vials on the desk and stood back to admire her handy work. "I really hope I'm not going to have to drink this now..." |

ooc note: I will be leaving the class open for about another 22 hours so that those in other time zones who would like to participate in brewing can do so. After that I will have the professor start the tasting. :) |
Jake nodded at the professor's words, hoping that he'd done it right. The 5 minutes were up, and so the concoction was taken down from the flame and jake started to stir once a minute for five minutes. He bit his lip again as the first minute ticked by, still not thrilled at having to drink acorn and bug juice (he was a vegetarian after all) but his anxieties lifted a little when Professor Bontecou said he'd check and join in. The next minute had gone, and so Jake stirred again. Three minutes to go... |
Becca was totally in the zone these days. She was one of the older kids in the majority of her classes, and it made her feel more superior and prideful than usual. So, naturally, she was trying her best. It was partially because of her age compared to the younger students, but it was also the fact that if she did well, she would be able to brag to Lainey about how well she was doing. Hopefully she could help Ravenclaw win a victory of the House Cup. As the directions were given, Becca copied down the ingredients and specific instructions. Then, after retrieving the ingredients from the front of the classroom, she got to work. She heated up the 500mL of water and waited.. and waited.. and waited.. until a few minutes later when it boiled. "Okay, easy enough." Then, she quickly crushed the 'meat' of the two acorns and added it to the cauldron. She next added a pinch of the billywig wings, then finally added the scurvy-grass. By now, the water had changed a variety of colors, and Becca observed carefully. "Well this is terribly exciting," she muttered, now working on stirring the mixture together. "1... 2... 3..." she counted boredly, thinking five minutes couldn't come quick enough. Oh well, she'd get there. At least everyone else had to do the same thing. |
After double-checking she had followed all the instructions, Miranda poured the potion from her cauldron into vials. Then, there was nothing to do but wait for the Professor to come around, and hope she had gotten it right. |

She was truely puzzled why would anyone chuckle at exploding cauldrons, or exploding anything for that matter. Sarah spoke at her elbow then drawing the young Ravenclaw's attention. "I get as far as saying hello and then...nothing. He does seem to pay attention when Mariel is near though. I suppose that pleasentries are all that we should extend. For propriety's sake." She gave her friend a smile and then glanced at the boy in question. Nathaniel hadn't really said anything to her, but she gave him a wave just the same. |
John copied the instruction, to make sure he did it right. Quote:
Once John had done that he stired constantly for 5 minutes. He then removed from the flim and stired again for 5 minutes. Boy was this hard work thought John. He then allowed it to cool and whilest it was doing so he was having a rest. Then finaly he added it all into a vial. |
The potion had cooled it, so she poured it into the vials and waited for the profesor. |

"Splish, splash, Peeves is taking a bath!" Peeves sang as he burst up out of the cauldron, showering students in every direction with charteuse, stinky warm fluid. Quote:
