"Good morning, class!" Professor Bontecou greeted them, merrily. "I'm Headmaster Bontecou, though you can still call me professor. I'm not picky and Headmaster sounds a bit pompous anyway, don't you think?" he laughed and pushed off from his desk, banishing the butterflies with a wave of his wand. "Alright, let's get down to business so we'll have time to have a bit of fun later on. Today I want to talk to you about potion safety," he said, and held up a hand to ward off the inevitable groaning that usually ensued an announcement about a boring potions class. "But, before you start throwing eggs at me, a muggle custom reserved for bad performances, give me a chance. I tried a little game last year which seemed to go over well so, we'll try it again. I want to go around the room and list the hazards of potion brewing, but you need to start your hazard with the next letter of the alphabet. So, for example, I'll start with something beginning with Q and the next person will have to say something that starts with R. "So... Q... Quills. Not only don't want to poke anyone's eye out with a quill, but you have ot be careful when adding porqupine quills to potions." ooc: Don't sweat it if you post at the same time as someone else and you give the same letter, but do try to go in the right order. ;) |
R... Red burns if you splash yourself with potion from stirring too vigorously? Cadence said timidly... |
"S. Store your potions correctly. If you don't store them correctly and then trip over or something, depending on the potion you or someone else could get hurt." Sakura said while raising her hand slightly |
S. Stand. Don't stand to far away but also not to close to your caldron? Spence said after raising her hand. |
Ana entered the classroom and saw the headmaster "Hello Professor". She looked around and saw Cadence, Spence and John. "Hello!" and she sat down near them. |
Cadence felt her face burn red as she realized she forgot to raise her hand. She raised her hand in the air and looked at the Professor Sorry, I forgot to raise my hand Professor... She hoped she wouldn't lose points for Hufflepuff. It was her first lesson, and she didn't want this to be the way the Professor remembered her. |
Sarah walked into the Potions class and took a deep breath. She really wanted to do well in this, after all it was the Headmaster teaching it! Wandering arond trying to find an empty desk she noticed the butterflies that had been conjured at the front of the class. "Ohhh they're so pretty," she mumbled. Then noticing the Professor she stuttered. "Hello..Pro...I mean Headmaster." Walking to the front she saw Mariel,so went over to her. "Hey do you mind if I sit next to you? I promise to only talk about the lesson." she winked. She knew how much her friend hated being disturbed while she was working. |
raising his hand, Micheal added "Smell - the smell of your potion can be an indication whether your getting things right or wrong" (most likely wrong in my case Michael thought). |
Miranda raised a timid hand. "U...Use common sense when dealing with volatile ingredients?" |
Mariel looked up from her book as someone sat down next to her. "Hi, Sarah," she said, then grinned and nodded in response to the no-talking comment. As she did, she noticed some movement out of the corner of her eye. Returning Nathaniel's wave, she chuckled to herself remembering the last Potions lesson she had and how she was afraid her hair would turn green because of the Gryffindor boy. Resuming her attention to the front of the class as the professor spoke, Mariel raised her hand. "U - Unicorn horns are sometimes used as potion ingredients. I suppose one would have to be careful when adding them" Realizing that made no sense, she put her hand down and continued reading. |
"Various," Varius said with a smile on his face - his own name, how silly, "Be prepared to use various and unexpected ingredients, as well as various preparations for these ingredients." |
Jake raised his hand, this sounded dumb but worth a shot. "W can be for Wands, professor," yep... weird. "I suppose if you used your wand to cast a certain spell on a potion, the outcome may be dangerous if you don't already know what happens?" |
"Xray," Varius offered, "That is what you are going to have to go for if you are an idiot and end up exploding your potion...?" This game was much harder than he originally expected. |
Cadence raised her hand a giggled at the response for X. She was enjoying this game. Y... years old... you better make sure your potion ingredients aren't several years old. |
"A... accept the consequences?" Jack said stupidly. |
"Be carefull... well because it may explode" she smiled |
"Complete... complete every instruction with precision and accuracy," this was getting more fun. |
"C. Calm. Stay calm in any situation as it may be what helps you save your potion or stop you from getting injured." Sakura said while raising her hand. |
We skipped Z Cadence said raising her hand. Z... zip your lips and concentrate on your potion so you don't mess up. |
"D - Directions.Follow every direction to the letter..or your potion may explode." Sarah said putting her hand up in the process. This was so much harder than she thought it would be. |
"E.. Evaluate the biggest risk?" Jack pitched in |
"F-Follow" Sara said, finally managing the courage to speak. "You better follow the instructions correctly if you don't want to receive a Dreadful in the class." |
"E: emergency. Stay calm and follow your teacher's instrucions if someone gets hurt or something" Marina said, hand raised. |
"G - Gather your ingredients ahead of time. Some potions require adding ingredients at the proper time and could be ruined if you're wating your time looking for the right ingredients," Mariel offered with hand raised |
