Jack scowled at Vindictus, he'd answered first, he was distracted now, then, he pushed off the ground with his toes "Ooop" he squeaked as he went higher than he wanted to, then he looked at the ground and upon doing so, he leant over the handle "EEP!" he squealed as he started to move, he leant back again to stop the broom from moving "Hoooo" he let out a small relieved sound as the broom stopped in it's tracks

EVIIIIIIIIIIIIL MAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!

Was it Jake's fault he always answered in questions? Was it Jake's fault he never felt like he was right? Was it Jake's fault he often doubted himself?

Well... yes...

But that's besides the point.

Still, two points is two more than nothing, Jake thought to himself as he did what the professor asked of them. Before he tried, he raised his hand and asked the question that had been bugging him. "Sir, if we really want to fly, but we push off normally, will the broom pick up on the subconscious enthusiasm? So, will we shoot off though we pushed off gently?"

Jake dropped his hand and held the broom again. This should be easy... you're a seeker for Vinny-Doody's sake! He pushed off gently, trying not to think about how much he wanted up, and hover in the air.

Honey, I'm home. Happy sigh...

Earlier
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Melanie was tempted to skip and run at the same time since the professer had told them not to but regrettfully she didn't and in fact she very plainly walked over to the left side of a broom and again following the Proffesser's instructions she held her hand above the broom and said: "up." real firm like. It rolled around a bit. Stupid lazy broom... "UP!!!" she yelled at it this time. It came up and hit her in the side. "you stupid broom, why can't you just listen?!?"she said angrily to the idiotic piece of wood. She listened carefully as the proffesser answered Lasca's question and tried one more time, this time with sucess. Even if the broom was struggling in her hand a bit...madly. "No no good broom! Stay!"

Now
-------------------------------------------------------------------
As the professor instructed them to Melanie straddled the broom and thankfully it had stopped thrashing around like a dying fish.

She listened nervously to the professor's instructions and looked a bit fearful... even if she had already ridden a broom at the Hufflepuff try-outs she was still nervous. She touched the tip of her sneakers to the ground beneath her and the broom hovered a few feet above the ground. She did her best to stay I that one spot but regardless the girl wavered a bit in the air.

Melanie loved the feeling of just hanging there in the air even if it only was a few feet. She grinned happily, looking around at the other students.

Riverlynn 02-16-2009 07:16 PM

Lasca gave the professor a quizzical look. She had no idea what a rocket was but if it was muggle made, then it couldn't be good. Taking what he said to heart she slowly rose up on her tip toes. She gave a small squeek of fright as the broom rose up of it's own accord.

I didn't even push off!

Her mind reeling, she straightened up on the broom handle and it slowly went back down to ground level. Sighing in relief as her toes touched back down to the ground. This time she was ready for it. Under her watchful eyes, the broom rose only a few inches above the ground, and hovered.

Grinning in triumph, another question occured to her. "Professor, these brooms have been used by many different students, yes? Is that being the reason some of them are a bit, how you say, haywire?" She wasn't sure if that was the right word. The language was hard to understand. Her own broom was itching to get in the air and it was taking all of her concentration to keep it in place. Her eyes never left the broom the entire time she was speaking.

highjinx 02-16-2009 07:19 PM

With two hands on the handle, Cam looked at Vindi-something again and nodded once he instructed them to push off the ground. Yay, it was like the flying part now! His eyes widened when he told them that they could go up in the air like a rocket if they pushed too hard. He wanted to do it right now, he wanted to push off as hard as he could and feel the sensation of the blast. They weren't suppose too, though.

He gently pushed off with his toes. Nothing. There was nothing that happened. Again he did it. Still, there was nothing. The third try did it though. Hover, hover. YESSS!

OOF. Cam was the Chaser for his house and falling off his broom was an embarrassment to like, everyone! He got hold of the broom which was in mid-air, put his hands on the handle again, pushed his feet off the ground and managed to hover again.

Yeaaah!

"The brooms are unsteady because none of you are expert fliers," Vindictus said and mounted one of the school brooms. "I am a professional. Watch." He pushed off and zoomed upwards into the sky. Then he swooped down and hovered at the same level as the students - about 10 feet off the ground. "See? Not a single wobble. Each of these school brooms have been inspected by myself and have to undergo rigorous tests every year." He stopped and shook his head slightly. Why am I suddenly explaining broom certification to these students?

"Back to flying. A broom goes forwards, up, down, fast, slow, and it can stop in the air or on the ground. No reverse mode. To move forwards on a broom, you lean slightly over the handle. The closer to the handle you are, the faster you go. To slow down, sit up slightly on the broom and pull the handle towards you. Now I want all of you to try flying around. No showing off."

No showing off? I'll be lucky if I can move this thing at all! he thought with slight apprehension. Leaning over the broom handle, he waited for the broom to move. He had some misgivings about this whole flying business. To his relief, the broom started moving, apparently like a 'rocket,' whatever that was. It wasn't too fast, thankfully.

After going a hundred yards or so, he decided he probably should figure out how to turn. Sitting up a bit, the broomstick slowed to what Keefer considered a manageable speed. Taking great care not to lose his balance, he leaned off to the left. It's turning! It's actually turning! he realized. Well, really slowly, but it is turning..

Eventually, he was back to facing the way he came from, towards the teacher. Leaning far over the broom, he tested how fast the borrowed broom could go. Accelerating quickly, he soon got scared of crashing into other students and eased up considerably. Besides, he didn't want to lose Hufflepuff any points for being reckless. He stopped near Vindictus, hovering at about the same height as before, and awaited his next instructions.

Herminny leaned into the broom and sure enough she went up a bit wobbly so she held on tight. Then she leaned slightly into the handle and was going foward and then she leaned into the broom a little more to go higher, about 8ft, when Herminny started to think jee this is fun until her broom started to wobble again and she leaned down on the broom to fly a little lower.

Melanie was again listening to the professor, but as she lost her concentration she also lost her balance. She lurched backward on the broom, but then trying to steady herself went forward, sending herself back and forth back and forth back and forth until she felt quite dizzy.

Melanie finally managed to get a hold on her broom, her left hand resting on her forehead. She decided to try and actually do it right this time as she knew she could do it, so she moved around like she was in a square from corner to corner. She relished the feeling of flying through the air so she moved up a bit more and then a bit more and a bit more until she hovered about 20 feet of the ground. Ahhh that felt good. The wind moving through her brown hair and the clouds just in view. She sighed contently.

Then the young Hufflepuff realized she probably wasn't supposed to be up that high so she moved swiftly back down closer to the ground grinning with a satisfied look on her face.

Riverlynn 02-16-2009 07:46 PM

Lasca felt thoroughly chastined. She would think twice about asking another question, that was for sure. She watching as Professor Vindictus flew around and then came back to them. She took note of everything he said on how a broom works. She was slightly surprised when he told them to fly around a bit.

Sighing, she leaned slightly over the broom and it took off. It took her a few adjustments of how to possition her body. The broom kept going too fast and then too slow. Finally, she found the right speed. Next came steering. She turned the broom slightly to the right it did a complete 360 in the air. She pulled up firmly on the handle and hovered for a moment. When the dizzyness subsided she tried again. This time doing it right.

After a couple more trial and errors that young Ravenclaw was doing wide figure eights. She wasn't sure if it classified as showing off, but she was having fun. And she was flying!

Becky 02-16-2009 07:48 PM

Jack nodded, he leaned forward "Let's go" he mumbled as the broom started to move "oooh errrr" he made an unwilling sound as it wobbled "Ow" he'd fallen off, he jumped to his feet.

Broom will work, I said so, broom will work, I said so

Jack grabbed the broom and pushed off harder than he meant to "Oh, I don't like this" Jack whimpered as he put his head down to cover his eyes "Aaagh" he squealed "I soooo don't like this" he muttered as he tried to stop the broom "Stop, stop, stop, stop" Jack told the broom "No, not.. noooo" Jack managed to get out as he saw the edge of the pitch "Ahhhhh" his body went straight and rigid with fear as he saw it getting closer "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no" Jack kept mumbling as he waited to crash, but, it never came, he opened one eye "Oh" he muttered weakly "Oh" he muttered again before falling off his broom sideways.

Felixir 02-16-2009 07:48 PM

Jake smiled inside. Cooooooool.

Steering his way around to where there was nobody else, Jake began flying straight onwards. As he went along, Jake gradually leaned closer to the handle, feeling his speed increase. Before he got too fast, Jake tried to sit up and pull himself down.

It didn't work.

Instead of slowing down like Jake should have done, in his haste to slow he almost stopped, which was way too abrupt.

Trying again, Jake went towards the other end, being careful not to speed up too much. He left enough time to slow down before he began flying around, practisingthis skill, and keeping his ears open for more instructions.

highjinx 02-16-2009 07:51 PM

"Whoaaah!" Vindi-something perfectly went into the air with no problem at all, he wished he could have done the same. But he kneew there was something wrong with his broom, why else could it have... been doing the wrong things and such?! And sadly there was no showing off, but he waanted to show off! There was no way he would show the rest of the students he was a horrible player. With a sigh, he tried to lean over. Fast was good, fast was great!

He started moving though, at an extremely slow speed. As slow as a sloth. He leaned over to the handle even more but it didn't really seem to help, it only made him move a little faster. And then faster. It wasn't that fast but he managed to keep a speed at least.

Going at that speed, he suddenly realized he was slowly going away from all of them. "Steeer! STEERRR!" Luckily, he managed to turn his direction by controlling the broom with his hands. With that, he went back to where they were and continued to fly around with a smile on his face that made him look like a maniac.

Hedwig18 02-16-2009 07:54 PM

"try flying around" yeah that's what she wanted to heard she thought.
With her feet she pushed the ground and the broom lifted up. N..n...no..go left...not too much..just stay in the middle. she thought while trying to balanced. She almost fell twice but she managed to maintain it. Ok let's try to move... slower! she though while the broom suddenly moved. Then she tried to turn turn...turn... turn, please and after a few seconds it turned. Ana was amused. After a few minutes her and the broom were getting along very well, at least for a first year. "Yeah! I'm flying!" she said very excited.

demented_death_eater 02-16-2009 07:59 PM

"No showing off!" Vindictus shouted as he watched from the ground. "Try flying around the area. With each lap, try to go a little faster!"

Becky 02-16-2009 08:01 PM

Jack laughed shakily "I couldn't show off if I wanted to" he laughed hysterically, he ignored his broom and started to watch the others zooming around, he was wondering whether to try again, or not

Rosa Chispa Princessa 02-16-2009 08:14 PM

Herminny from about 6ft up was ready to try going up to 8ft again so she leaned into her broom and ascended the two feet except this time she could handle it, the broom was'nt so wobbly beneath her, Herminny and leaned closer into the handle and she was off with confidence as she steered broom around the frist corner of the pitch, as she aprouch the seccond she had to slow down as she was starting to loose control and as she got the hang of the speed Herminny felt she was up to trying going faster again as she made her way around the pitch for the seccond time. Herminny thought,I'm getting the hang of this as she went for another lap

Felixir 02-16-2009 08:17 PM

Round and round they go, where will they stop?

Nobody knows.

Jake listened to Vindy-Doody and started to circle the area. Without really realising, Jake began to speed up on each lap, making a note of not to go too fast. The last thing he wanted was to fall and hate flying.

Shudder.

Lindzers 02-16-2009 08:23 PM

Melanie listened to the instructions carefully and sighed. Melanie seriously was hoping she wasn't the one he was talking a bout showing off.

Speed was most definitely not her problem. It was more control of her broom. Melanie started zooming around the pitch faltering a bit every few seconds, but then easily gaining control again. She went around once and after that went flawlessly besides the little wavedings of her broom a few times and she accidently went back and forth once, but she had kinda hoped that was before anyone could see it.

Melanie absoulutely loved the flying situation. Her hair went in a trail behind her and kept getting swooshed up in her face though and that was annoying so Melanie decided she may as well tie it up. She pulled back on her broom a bit to stop it in midair and tried to balance without two hands on it so she could tie her hair back. Bad idea.

Melanie went flying straight down and she let out a small squeal before hitting the ground. She let out a small moan and picked herself up before tying her hair up in a low ponytail. Melanie slowly turned around realizing Vindictus had probably witnessed the whole thing she frowned, hoping she wouldn't be in trouble... She had only been trying to put her hair up after all.

Or maybe he hadn't seen anything at all and in that case... Melanie slung her leg over the broom and tilted it up slowly flying back up in the air, she fell back into pace with the others.

Oh, please don't say he noticed...

Hedwig18 02-16-2009 08:24 PM

Faster, that sounds good she thought. Ana leaned a little more over the handle and the broom moved faster.

demented_death_eater 02-16-2009 08:27 PM

"Good, good!" Vindictus called out. "Keep on flying until you hear my whistle!"

Lindzers 02-16-2009 08:30 PM

He didn't say anything to her... did that mean he didn't see it?!

Melanie concluded just that and a satisfied smile crept across her face.

Becky 02-16-2009 08:31 PM

Jack wimped out of flying again, he started to walk over to Vindictus defeatedly "I... can't do it" he admitted

highjinx 02-16-2009 08:33 PM

Cam nodded weakly while leaning his body much closer to the handle, it looked like his head was already on the handle. He went a bit faster which meant it was harder to control and everything, especially because they had to circle around the area. Fly, fly, fly, fly. Then steer to your left. Oh, that was easy! But honestly he had a hard time trying to steer and also keeping up with the speed he was going at. "At least this is fun and everehthing. YAHHHHH." He flew around, waiting for Vindi-something to blow his whistle and signal them to stop.

demented_death_eater 02-16-2009 08:33 PM

Vindictus looked at Jack. "You're joking," he said. "Get back on your broom and try to hover two feet above the ground."
